Monetate is a website optimization and personalization product. The company offers a strong product tailored to the needs of e-commerce and retailers. Customers are mostly enterprise brands.https://media.trustradius.com/product-logos/my/al/NDGACW4U8LT0.JPEGGreat Platform & Easy to Use!We use monetate in our ecommerce department. We have 2 main users who work hand in hand to improve our website and test different experiences and creative across our site. It addresses multiple business problems, from checkout to search, to product recommendations.,The platform itself is extremely easy to use. Weekly calls with support. Ideas on how to improve and test are always welcome.,Reporting is a little difficult. There has been quite a lot of changes with employees coming in and out of play.,8,Bounce rate has decreased.,10,10,8,8A Great Tool for Business Users When IT is SlowWe primarily use Monetate to A/B test experiences on our website and to implement HTML/CSS/image updates that we would need our development agency to do. It allows us to get changes to the website very quickly. We are also starting to use it for personalization purposes.,Allows for easy A/B(/C) testing setup and analytics. Easy for business users with limited HTML/CSS experience to set up actions on the website.,I wish that endcaps and other opportunities for personalization weren't so manual to set up. I would like one action to be able to show an endcap on the homepage and display products from the category the user was just viewing. Instead, I need to set up "viewed this category, show this category on the homepage" for each category I want to show, which could be dozens. Experiences should be able to have the same priority numbers or be able to be set to a permanent high priority. Every time I place a new banner or callout I don't want to have to go back and rearrange the banners from other experiences to be higher or lower. I'd like all "brand type" banners to be priority 1, "promo type" banners to be priority 2, etc. -- Maybe set priority by folder.,10,Helped increase conversion rate and customer experience by allowing us to test features/designs on the site without first making costly development changes. We're able to more quickly fix or suppress issues on the website than we would waiting for IT to troubleshoot issues.,10,10,,8,7A/B Testing ChampionWe use Monetate to conduct A/B tests and optimize from those results. We also use the tool to make quick changes to the site when we notice a customer issue. We use the tool to email customers tailored offers. We also use the tool to collect regional data across the country.,The product gives you the ability to make quick changes to your site without needing IT assistance You have the ability to make the changes yourself, and not wait on Monetate support If you need Monetate support, it is always available.,It takes Monetate a week and a half to build actions if we'd like their support to do so. A faster turnaround would be much more convenient.,8,Ability to test different things that deal with conversion. We're able to see key metrics in each campaign right away.,,8Room for ImprovementIt is being used in the e-commerce department for the customer experience team. It addresses customer experience issues within our direct to consumer website.,Client services - quick to respond to issues Forward looking initiatives - early access program allows clients to test out new services Training documentation - educational webinars available about how to use,Need dev support - web development expertise is required in order to set up tests actions. QA process - they seem to test on simulators which causes issues with mobile actions and experiences. We often have to send work for further QA. Client-focused - focus is on monetate, not on client. Pushes programs that might not make sense for a client in order to further new products.,7,Positive - testing plays an important role in any digital business.,8,7,4,7,7User friendly, flexible, marketing tool.Monetate is being used across our Marketing department to enhance the customer experience. It is being used for targeting customers with specific promotion messaging, testing offers / creative / functionality, and lightbox messaging. It allows us to target specific customers with relevant messaging to optimize orders, traffic and revenue.,Monetate is very user friendly, which allows multiple departments to use the tool and be self sufficient.,I feel Monetate is fit our needs perfectly, so can't think of anything I would have done differently.,10,Monetate definitely enhanced our conversion, email sign ups, and bounce rate.,10,10,,,Monetate has been a great UX resource for our teamWe use Monetate at my company to A/B test different experiences on our sites. Monetate allows us to back up our UX with data. Monetate proved most helpful while testing our checkout. We have multiple sites at my company, and we were able to use Monetate to flip the site tests on one by one.,Good project managers. They keep constant contact. Good support. We have had great experience with their support team. The way Monetate displays data makes it easy to read and understand.,More in depth help on formulating ideas to test.,9,9,9,9,9,9New to Monetate but great so far!We use monetate for quick bug fixes as well as for A/B testing and their new intelligent delivery system. They are instrumental for helping us offer a personalized experience for our consumers as well as executing special promotions. It is currently only used by the e-commerce department.,Great customer support Easy to use UI,8,8,8,8Solid tool but problematic for those outside of ecommerce spaceMonetate is being used by the marketing department to test landing pages, e-commerce flows, introduce and test new experiences on our websites, and serve layer ads. Development resources are tight, so Monetate allows us to iterate on our current e-commerce and site experiences and only push those experiences through to development once they've proved valuable.,Serve layer ads with advanced targeting Run multivariate tests with advanced targeting and segmentation Easily customize onsite experience based on advanced targeting,Services have been an issue. The business model has changed, and services once handled by Monetate are now being outsourced. Lots of turnover on the account and services side. Initial integration was painful. For full integration with our e-commerce flows, we had to add instrumented tagging. The initial integration did not meet our needs but it took a full year to realize that. Integration might not be as simple as they pitch. Full page A/B testing always seemed more complicated than it should be.,5,Testing in our ecommerce pages has increased lead generation and revenue numbers by improving the conversion rates on our existing traffic We've been able to scale back on development hours and run tests and even 100% experiences through Monetate Overall, cost of Monetate product creeping up and revenue wins probably didn't cover the total investment.,5,6,1,Great testing platformWe use Monetate mainly to customize user experiences, feature promotions and test different UX elements. Secondarily, it is extremely helpful as a quick deployment tool, circumventing the development process for quick fixes and adjustments. The tool is used by the Tech and Marketing teams, but we communicate possible visual changes to the website to other departments, such as Customer Services.,Great for testing - over the time we use the tool the constant improvements in reporting make easy to share results with the rest of the team and promote successful experiments, as well as learn from failures. Easy and extensible interface - the tool is both easy to use and at the same time provides the possibility of extending a particular action for advanced users. Setting up custom metrics is easy and very helpful if you have specific goals in mind.,Targeting URL variables not always works properly Targeting javascript variables could be improved (localStore objects for example won't work) In experiences, targeting construction could have more complex, nested, logic constructors - right now it only allows AND or OR - this makes it hard when you have multiple conditions for the target building process,10,Great UX/UI "discoveries" with the tests performed Some experience results lifted conversion rate dramatically Using it as a quick deployment tool saved the day for the Tech department a number of times,9,9,10,10,6Excellent at the basics, but very expensive. We use Monetate primarily to conduct A/B testing across several departments. It's incredibly useful in this regard as well as to make on-the-fly changes to our site that would otherwise require lots of time and additional expense.,Testing Custom code injection,Personalization: users are not always placed in the correct segments. Too expensive New features rolled out as add-ons that really should just be included in base package.,5,ROI has been positively impacted, but not by as much as I would have expected for the cost.,10,5,8,6Easy to use for starting an A/B testing programIt's used by one department to A/B test the website in order to optimize the customer experience and conversion rate.,Easy to use with out knowledge of coding Easy to make your own actions using the action builder Easy to target specific segments, and good account services,Production could be faster, and more thorough QA before handing over a monetate-built experience. Or, if it is mostly in miscommunication between client and technical, a tutorial or briefing template to ensure higher first-time success rate. An account strategist or consultant that can recommend optimizations or tests to run on a quarterly basis based on what is trending or working well with other clients. A mobile emulator would dramatically help in building mobile friendly actions - currently have to rely on a third party emulator. Or make a version of the website that is mobile friendly in order to build and preview actions on phone.,9,Increases conversion rate on the website through optimization, focusing on the lower half of the funnel,7,8,3,5The Client Success Team goes above and beyond.Monetate is primarily used in our Production team for multivariate tests requested by our brand and site managers. It also allows us to circumvent IT for many tasks and we occasionally use it as a marketing tool.,Multivariate Testing Marketing Campaigns that are out of scope for marketing and production (circumventing IT and devs) Reporting,Some of the newest tools are a bit unpolished. They are extremely receptive and responsive to feedback though.,10,We've had some very successful tests. I'm not going into details, but I will say they provide enough data in their reporting to easily prove what is working where and why. It's allowed us to execute content presentations that our normal tools would not allow us to do, and most importantly of all, with out needing valuable IT/dev resources.,,10A marketing tool only limited by your imaginationAs a Startup, we use Monetate in several key ways: - To test many of our hypotheses about how users shop for our products with the goal of increasing customer adoption - To test retention campaigns for returning customers based on our data-driven insights - To test new 3rd party functionalities and make site edits without having to rely on our technical team,Monetate has excellent account service teams. Many of our most significant gains with the platform were the result of our service team's suggestions The self-service campaign builder tool takes a bit of time to get used to, but quickly becomes intuitive and is very powerful and precise Monetate has many built-in features, like lightbox modals, that will get you up and testing quickly,There are some campaigns that you'll want to test that will probably require some customization. They have begun to charge for some of these customizations, which is understandable. On the plus side, these customizations are usually developed quickly.,10,ROI positive for the year within the first two months of usage Increased new customer conversion rates Decreased cost per acquisition from marketing partners,Optimizely,10Use it correctly and it will assist you in your conversion optimizationWe work with Monetate for all our testing it assists us in our continuous effort to optimize our platform. Our main focus is to test and display personalized content especially for customers who reach us from Google paid search. Currently we are only using it for our platform in Germany but in near future we plan to use it as well for our Polish one. We use Monetate in various ways from simple landing page testing for our different online marketing channels to advertising our apps especially personalized on mobile devices to optimizing our order process. We have several users but in the end it is only me who is working full time with the tool assisted by our very skilled frontend IT staff that creates every extra needed experience using the monetate action builder.,Easy to use campaign building Create customized actions for everything you need using the action builder Use the various targeting possibilities to show your customers personalized content,I wished the weather targeting would work in Europe as well as it is advertised in america We are still using the old features to analyse our campaigns and I hope the new tools provide us with easier to use data On the one hand monetate campaign building is easy to use but on the other hand it would have been much easier to only see the targeting possibilities we can really use, especially because most of them are not usable for Europe until now,10,Lower the bounce rate of our landing pages Gave us insight on user behavior Cleared up prejudices we had about the behavior of our customers Increased testing efficiency,,10Monetate and Morrisons CellarWe are using the platform to support our testing and optimization program.,Supporting future development decisions through testing. Allows us to be more agile in our ideas. We can push changes live that would take us months to get through the traditional processes. The platform is extremely easy to use. The interface is extremely user friendly and can be picked up quickly.,Better reporting suite.,9,Excellent ROI so far. It has helped us understand the customer journey and where we can Improve it. Through a detailed testing and optimization program it has helped back up our business cases for a lot of new development.,,8Monetate - easy to useMarketing owns the relationship with monetate. Other teams like site merchandising and buying submit requests to Monetate to put up monetate banners on our site. It allows us add things in real time, geo-target, and personalize using customer data.,Geo-target banners (can't do this internally) Easy for marketers to use the tool,Most of the time we're using Monetate it's because of an urgent issue, sometimes we need reps to answer faster, also sometimes are expected to have 24/7 support. Monetate assets load slower on our site. Need more recommendations from Monetate and industry success stories.,8,Sometimes internal code changes interacting with Monetate's code has caused issues.,4,8,4,6Powertool For Improving User ExperienceUsed to conduct A/B & Multivariate testing to solidify our strongest messaging and holiday offers. Used for numerous Geo-targeting marketing programs to increase relevance in key markets. Implement numerous new marketing placements throughout the site and test their effectiveness.,Sometimes the reporting was cumbersome and hard to read.,Was able to test and target new types of marketing placements, messages and offers to increase customer click-through rates and conversion.,9,8Monetate will help you grow your business.Monetate is used across all our brands and through 3 digital devices (mobile, tablet, desktop). The company uses Monetate every day. Through promotions, A/B Testing, and custom display by area. Monetate helps the company grow with their use of personalization.,Quick and easy platform. Support team is great. Helpful, knowledge and able.,Sometimes slow load speeds.,10,I don't have that information in front of me. But I feel strongly that Monetate has helped our company greatly.,9,9,,8Monetate - good for starting website testsGreat software + hands-on team which provides training and industry expertise. The full-service experience also provides tech resources + QA. Easy to use system interface to start / end tests and to view results.,Multivariate testing seemed to be challenging at the time - this might have been improved by now. Tests results require 1 day delay. Would like to receive data real-time, particularly with holiday seasonal activities,Increasing employee efficiency of a/b testing and content management, without tech release structure . Drives self-sufficient a/b testing where employee can easily create test, launch, and deliver on performance.,7,8Customer Favorite - Monetate!!We use Monetate for testing and customization of our desktop and mobile websites. It addresses problems such as customer segmentation for site experience and messaging; providing more relevant products to specific buyers; helping to identify best actions based on multi variant testing; allows us to geo-target, etc. We also heavily rely on the tool to help workaround lengthy development times and costs. We are able to utilize the Monetate tool to do things such as mimic the experience of desktop site on our mobile site; add mobile optimized content/landing pages and product endcaps - which would take much longer to accomplish without Monetate. Just starting to use email tool - currently geo targeting to help drive to closest stores and will use to test promo language.,Tool is very intuitive - easy to use right out of the box. Users can create tests starting day 1 AND it is so easy to build upon existing campaigns..feels like a limitless amount of things you can accomplish right away. Analytics - again straightforward design - easy to access and take away learnings. For example - when we tested abandoned cart messaging (adding links to customer service, etc) with no offer - saw 22% increase in add to cart and 9% decline in bounce rate. Can utilize the Monetate summary dashboard or look at data directly. Support team - consistent knowledgeable members who make the effort to understand client end goals - then help develop action/strategy plan to accomplish AND help execute. Whether providing / assisting with training to helping to troubleshoot to building in-house. Always accessible - whenever i've had a question/issue!,Engage email program isn't managed the same way as Merchandiser. While our team helped get us up and running with the tool and provided support in initial programs to test, we have to go through Monetate Support for additional help. Wish it was all in one place/one team. As a small brand that is part of a larger corporation where other brands also use Monetate...think it's a good decision recently implemented to re-organize so that there is a team/acct lead for the corporation. There are a lot of good learnings that we needed someone to facilitate sharing across the different brands. It took a while to implement - but a good improvement.,10,Increased conversion - positive impact. For example - the use of behavioral endcaps on HP and in cart lead to increases in overall conversion rate Increased efficiency - positive impact. Able to make changes quickly in order to support segmented messaging or user experiences. We schedule mutiple homepages across devices and updates take minutes (for example). Increased omnichannel experience - positive impact. Able to get content on mobile site vs redirecting to desktop (poor user experience) by using Monetate.,9,No,Friday evening - reached out because I couldn't see a banner that was only to be visible to a specific portion of the traffic. I thought I was screwed - reached out to my rep - literally with an "Are you there?" message because I was sure I wouldn't get an answer....he responded right away - and while he didn't have an immediate answer...promised that he would keep working on it till he figured out the problem - and he did! I got a confirmation email later that evening that it was resolved and screenshot showing it worked correctly. Now that's customer service!,Building campaigns/experiences Seeing impact of campaigns using analytics dashboard Scheduling content (like multiple campaigns over Black Friday!),Sometimes Preview doesn't work as I expect it to. This was a challenging question as the tool is really very easy to use...this has just been one area that I've had to reach out for assistance to ensure campaign is working because I can't see. More driven by user knowledge than the tool.,Yes, but I don't use it,9Monetate palsWe use Monetate for every promotional email campaign. We set up banners displaying the offer and also set up pop-ups so people can see the small print on the offer (ex: excludes clearance, promotional end date, etc.). It has increased conversion and has decreased customer complaints.,Adding Badges ("best seller") Adding a pop up for new email sign ups Adding a banner a promotional banner (Free shipping use code..),The reporting could be cleaner I wish there was a mobile preview More testing examples for product pages and site content,8,ROI Increased average order value (AOV) Higher conversion ratesMonetate Strikes a Perfect Balance of Being User-Friendly and Extremely RobustMonetate is currently being used only in one department to deliver relevant, personalized experiences and offers on our website. It allows us to target different audiences based on location, behavior and other information we have so that we can learn what UI works best on our site and provide meaningful customer shopping experiences, and drive signups and conversions.,Their knowledge base and university is extremely informative and helpful when you need some extra help understanding the product features and capabilities. The Summit is incredible in every way. All the speakers were outstanding. The entertainment and networking opportunities were also a huge value add, and the one day university helped me gain confidence using the tool and learn helpful tips from other retail customers. The PEOPLE! The account reps and everyone else there provide incredible service all the time and everyone I have met at the company goes overboard to make sure customers are happy with the product, using it to its fullest potential, and meeting their goals. The product is awesome and extremely easy to use even for non-technical people.,Most of the issues I have are being addressed in the upcoming release and it is all around organization of experiences in the tool. They are creating a filing system to make it easier to manage experiences and that will be a big improvement.,10,We are seeing some good initial results in our KPIs and in customer satisfaction.,Monetate - ReviewWe have used Monetate to understand who our customer is. Once we know that, we can use it to identify what their intent is. Personalization is a term being thrown around a lot all over the Internet, but it is really being put to use by Monetate. We can change many things on our sites based on who our customer is, or what they are interested in. I currently use Monetate on most of our web properties, and plan on expanding. Being able to personalize the sites has helped us differentiate our sites from each other, although we still have a long way to go.,I have really enjoyed finding out who our customer is by using Live Audience. To me, it is the closest thing to the Marketing Holy Grail that I have seen. Knowing that much information about our customers is going to be invaluable. The analytical aspect of the Test Lab has helped us make improvements across our organization. The ability to show conversion rates, revenue increases and Add to Cart rates have helped us move the needle on change. I have been impressed with the communication from Monetate. Our Client Success team is always available for questions and help. Many times contacting vendors can be very hard, but Monetate understands what we are trying to do, and knows that sometimes time is an issue. They are always eager to help, and never rude or complaining.,I would love to see more detailed analytics. They are releasing some new analytics in the future, so this may not be relevant for long.,9,Monetate has made us much more agile. We can respond to trends, new promotions and customers much faster than we used to. One negative is that Monetate has become the go to tool when something needs done on the site. Sometimes it isn't done to test anything, but just to fix something or to put something out on the website.,,9,8Great Solution for Marketers and Experience OptimizersMonetate is used within our company as a solution for both marketing and our User Experience department. It's being used for merchandising solutions on the site by marketing, in particular to build out relevant promotions to customers and easily manage the those promotions, as well as to automate a lot of processes that used to be done manually - so it reduces work load tremendously. For User Experience, we use it to build out different experiences to test on the site to build out an optimized experience specific to the user case.,Very easy to build out "actions." Compared to previous tools we've used, Monetate is very user-friendly, especially in that it doesn't require actually going into the code and inserting anything - Monetate does it via DOM manipulation, etc. Great geotargeting of merchandising. We do a lot of business internationally, and the products bought there are quite different depending on location - so Monetate's ability to build out recommendations or other merchandising modules that bring up products specific to behavior of others in the geolocation is fantastic. Very easy to target design changes to mobile. We are segmenting out mobile optimization as a specific action item and being able to target experiences solely for users based on device is a requirement, which monetate does very well.,Would like to see better segmentation within the reporting section by default. When you build a report and then run it, you can have segmentation - but not within the basic reports that are built in to the system. As easy as it is to build actions, there are a few solutions that are even easier (with drag and drop functionality, etc.) Would love to see further improvements.,8,Reduced marketing merchandising man-hours. Several positive "wins" for conversion rate based on tests.,8,Gotta get Monetate!Monetate is currently being used in the e-Commerce area specifically for recommendations, banners and other imagery.,Site wide recommendations Customer Service - fast problem solvers Teaching how to maximize the tool,Some tracking sources Being able to duplicate storefront recs to mobile instead of having to create to separate campaigns.,10,Positive- Email Lightbox Better site wide recommendations - more personal,

Monetate is well suited if you need a quick fix/change to your website. Also if you want to test different aspects of your site it is super simple to set up a test and see the results come through. It will show when your test has reached significance and different metrics for that test.

You should ask if you ever need to make quick updates to your site. You should ask if you would benefit from the ability to A/B test different scenarios on your site. You should ask if you have a person who is able to understand HTML and CSS in order to go in the tool and make changes more quickly than waiting on Monetate support.

Monetate is well suited for a larger testing and optimization team that has internal web development support. For lean teams without much expertise, it might not be the best option. It takes 2-4 weeks for Monetate to set up actions, so it is not the best vendor for agile groups working at a fast pace.

Monetate is great for smaller teams in that you have help from Monetate (tech, strategy, etc) and it's very intuitive, so you don't have to be a rocket scientist to use the tool or code things. Once our tech team sets it up, we're good to go using it.

For a more simple website with a shopping cart and for a user who doesn't need a lot of services, this is a good tool. The user interface is intuitive and with some effort, someone can become pretty self-sufficient with the tool. The tool would be especially useful for those who are in the e-commerce space.

Monetate is great if you have a good idea of testing cases and your team is able to implement it, which can be challenging. It is also very helpful for Tech teams as a quick deployment / testing / bug fix tool. Monetate is as useful as your team gets involved with the idea of testing different interface elements in order to provide the best experience possible to your users.

Monetate is very good at many things, especially the basic A/B and multivariate testing. But there are still some issues with the more advanced features, like the 1-to-1 personalization. For the cost I expect it to be a more polished product.

A/B testing topical changes to the website is very easy, however, it doesn't execute as well on slower internet connections. The analytics could be improved in terms of action tracking as well as selecting time frames for metric results, and sometimes changing the time frame change whether the test reaches significance, but it's not clear why that is the case when I have downloaded the raw data results.

The Customer Success Team that we work with is "well suited". They bend over backwards for us, and we have some pretty heinous requests and time lines that we throw at them. They never miss a beat. Plus, I'm still learning and experimenting with all the tools available to me, and they are always there to help when I need them.

You need to ask yourselves if you have skilled people to use the tool, who can monitor and implement the campaigns and will use the testing possibilities as much as possible. As Monetate is a more advanced tool that is quite expensive especially for a start up.
And very important would be how will the structure of your platform work together with the monetate code and its limitations. For example we have pages where the content changes without a page load, so the monetate code is not triggered again, this limits our testing possibility's and requires extra investments. You might also need to reckon to pay extra if your IT department has limited time or skill to build more advanced actions.

Biggest factors are what is the testing objectives, timeline, resources within current company, and testing environment. Monetate was great in getting the testing culture started - and seeing quick wins with initial tests. More advanced testing required feedback on do-ability within Monetate - and also with current company's resources (if required).

Things to consider:
Do you have someone in place who has the time to manage tests - creating test plans, building/or working with Monetate to build campaigns and react to results? It is easy to use Monetate to make changes to site quickly (skipping internal development) and to skip the testing - you have to be rigorous in taking advantage of that piece of the tool. Otherwise..
Do you have a clunky development process - that makes it hard to make site changes? Monetate works well for emergency quick fixes (such as updating incorrect messaging/adding a disclaimer) as well as more developmentally intensive changes such as adding Paypal to minicart. It's so easy to use that we often rely on Monetate to manage content pieces on site and mobile.

It is very well-suited for retail. Monetate is very good at working with others in your org to socialize the tool and help get buy-in from developers and designers. Once the developers understand that it won't break the site, they are much more willing to accept and start using the tool.

If an organization is very "status quo" driven, then Monetate can be difficult to use. To start testing and personalization takes a lot of risk, and many companies are not willing to take that risk. Smaller businesses would definitely benefit since they don't have the budgets to make mistakes. By testing something early, they can change potentially bad content early. Understanding the customers would also help small businesses since they don't usually have the budgets for market research as well.
