Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

It is very well-suited for retail. Monetate is very good at working with others in your org to socialize the tool and help get buy-in from developers and designers. Once the developers understand that it won't break the site, they are much more willing to accept and start using the tool.

Monetate - Review

If an organization is very "status quo" driven, then Monetate can be difficult to use. To start testing and personalization takes a lot of risk, and many companies are not willing to take that risk. Smaller businesses would definitely benefit since they don't have the budgets to make mistakes. By testing something early, they can change potentially bad content early. Understanding the customers would also help small businesses since they don't usually have the budgets for market research as well.

If you are fine-tuning your website, this is a must. There is no better way to manipulate your pages without disrupting the flow of regular traffic. I especially like that we can solve issues that require immediate attention on the site with Monetate. The flexibility saves us a lot of money!

As a publisher we have different needs and KPI's for our business vs. the typical retail client. Out of the box many of the targets and optimization opportunities were geared for other industries, but we've worked with Monetate closely so they understand our business needs and have created solutions that work well for our business. I'm continually impressed with how well versed everyone at Monetate is with their product, including the sales team we worked with. That's a rarity!

Fast problem solvers.

An understanding of XML feed files will be important for those using the Merchandiser module. This shouldn't be a hindrance to most organizations with the technical aptitude to implement Monetate to begin with, but if outsourcing that task, ensuring that an automated update of the product feed file is included in the scope of the implementation is important. We found that the Monetate staff was extremely helpful in assisting with the validation of the data in the product feed file and in ensuring that feeds for different properties were being properly updated.

This tool is very well suited and built for "pure retailers," but can still be used by anyone with an online presence that is looking to improve performance. Dedicated team resources would be optimal since the best results are achieved by continual refinement and iterations.

The most important thing is to opt for a trial run of the UI to see if Monetate is right for your company and if the learning curve is too difficult for the possible users. Other than that, the capabilities of Monetate are very powerful and I would definitely recommend it.

You should ask if you ever need to make quick updates to your site. You should ask if you would benefit from the ability to A/B test different scenarios on your site. You should ask if you have a person who is able to understand HTML and CSS in order to go in the tool and make changes more quickly than waiting on Monetate support.

Essentially the potential client should know their business needs, and see if Monetate fits their needs. There definitely is a place and time to use Montetate, but then at other times maybe not so much. For instance I think it is useful for targeting and also A/B testing, however I have been at networking events where people are relying on it to swap massive amounts of content, which I do not believe is what it was intended for.

The Customer Success Team that we work with is "well suited". They bend over backwards for us, and we have some pretty heinous requests and time lines that we throw at them. They never miss a beat. Plus, I'm still learning and experimenting with all the tools available to me, and they are always there to help when I need them.

Key question to ask yourself before considering Monetate is how quickly can you or your company make updates to your website. If it takes multiple people and hours of work to append one page or add a graphic banner to a certain page, then Monetate is the perfect tool for you. If you have the ability to make changes to your site straight through your own FTP or CMS, then Monetate may not be as advantageous for you.
