What is MySQL?
MySQL is one of the most popular database software options for businesses of all sizes. The software is open source, and highly customizable, so users can set up an instance that meets their needs.
While MySQL is a specific product, NoSQL is a type of database that includes a number of available products. Whether a NoSQL (nonrelational database) product or using MySQL (relational database) is right for you greatly depends on the data you are storing, queries, and flexibility.

  • MySQL 8 Community Edition is free, no investment necessary.
  • MySQL has enabled me to deliver in a timely fashion because it is easy to deploy, easy to learn, and easy to compile.
  • MySQL will be familiar to anyone who knows any SQL for most basic things, so development resources needn't be dedicated to MySQL.

  • It saves resources if to use opensource MySQL comparing with use of e.g. MS SQL
  • It allows us to improve ROI as it allows fast deployments and instant utilization
  • MySQL defines the use of open source environment in most cases, and that is a cheaper solution in terms of implementation

  • Positive impact on implementation: It's a breeze to setup a LAMP stack, with MySQL included.
  • Positive impact on capital expenditures: it's easy to get it running on a virtual machine, smaller system or really anything. Its impact on RAM usage is very minimal (unlink SQL Server).
  • Positive impact on querying time: since most initial queries in any data project are simple, getting a DB up and running from bare metal to full-stack and querying is a stress-less process, as it takes about 2hours to be ready to query.

  • Every developer needs a database management system for their website or application to save data of visitor, users or any type of data. Oracle provided that system for free to use it. In my early days of development, I started using it up through now.
  • It really impacted my work as well as the business of our organization, as it is easy to use and we had it set up in no time and developed many websites using it.

  • When talking about data security, it is always a matter of not skimping on money. With this application, unauthorized access to the data is not possible because it is protected with a password encrypted in the database. The data can be recovered using a secure copy for solutions in the cloud. MySQL is competitive in the market and works for small and medium companies where sometimes the technology costs can be very high.

  • It has made site management through a CMS like WordPress or Drupal infinitely easier to manage.
  • It is a critical part of the LAMP, WAMP and MAMP stack and has been a major driver of innovation in the content-management-system space, pushing site and web-application development toward greater democratization.
  • It has proved to be very reliable and easy to set up and administer and saves me tremendous time troubleshooting query and performance issues.

  • The last time I used it (around March 2018) I was able to manipulate a database which helped us make a choice of a new asset management software, which has saved us untold dollars.
  • The enterprise version has been in use for several years, and would not be used if it were not cost effective.
  • The free version has all the function needed to work with a database for a website, so an enterprise license cost was not needed(emergency use needed earlier this year).

  • There is few negative impact of using MySQL, at least in terms of adoption cost. It is free for use.
  • From workforce management perspective, it is easy to predict budget since many developers are familiar with the product. We don't need "special" developer for MySQL which cause uncertainty of salary for the specialty.
  • MySQL runs well with any operating systems and that's one aspect that the product is easy to be adopted.

  • Practically free, allowed me to focus my companies resources on development and software development, not exorbitant database licensing
  • MySQL has provided everything I need in a database, I see the database as a commodity and MySQL fits the bill
  • I have not needed costly support as the product has a large development community and great documentation

  • It's free to use locally, has no impact whatsoever in our finances
  • Hosting solutions (shared or VPS, for instance) are very common and cheap
  • Our go-to CMS (WordPress) uses it, so it's a no-brainer to use it on every project we deliver

  • Since MySQL is a free database package, if you have someone on staff that understands databases and how to use them, the ROI is very high when using MySQL.
  • If you need to hire a MySQL developer to implement and manage your database then it can be quite costly to manage and that will negatively impact your ROI when using this product.
  • Since there are some very expensive alternatives in the SQL database space, if you compare the overall costs of using MySQL to those other products, I think you will find your ROI is always better when using MySQL

  • With a correct storage of the data and providing them at the time of making consultations generates an extremely positive impact on the line of business because of the speed that this merits in the handling of the information.
  • It is a free code database manager so in its implementation the costs of the same in terms of licensing were non-existent so I represent a significant savings for the company.
  • Regarding the negative aspect, we had to resort to other more powerful database managers to perform complex queries or to host databases that require different treatment.
