We are a healthcare management company that uses Namely both for our own employees as well as for our surgery center client employees. Our Human Resources department is the main user of Namely, and we manage the data, processes, and implementation. We use the system for payroll, employee onboarding and offboarding, performance reviews, timekeeping, and benefits enrollment. Across our 13 managed entities we have 400 employees.
  • Onboarding process
  • Adobe Sign integration
  • Continuous improvement based on customer feedback.
  • Integration with Namely Time is a manual process.
  • Lack of current PTO balances on timecards for Namely Time users.
  • Namely Benefits is difficult to use without much training and experience.
Namely is a good all-in-one system, especially for companies with simple structures, mostly/only salaried employees, and in legal jurisdictions without much regulation. Most of the issues we have run into are due to the integration with Namely Time (for our 350 hourly employees) as well as due to California law, which can require more complex solutions (e.g. it is not automatic for Namely Time employee PTO to appear on the paystub as required by law).

Amazing experience with Namely! The user-friendliness of the product, customer support team, and features for HR/Finance/Reporting is second to none. The account managers are also diligent, responsive and are always there to solve any problem with great solutions at the drop of a hat. Highly recommend the product and service!
  • Customer Support.
  • Reporting
  • User Friendliness - Ease of Navigation.
  • More drop down options for reporting (inactive, active employees etc).
  • Reporting and working on reports in the system v.s. downloading and using in Excel.
  • More analytics and featured dashboards to slice and dice the data.
Well-Suited:
Benefit set-up and enrollment.
Reporting and analytic functions.
HRIS and user friendliness of using and entering data.

Less Well-Suited:
Payroll is an area I'd love to jump into more and understand the capabilities.
Performance Management could have more/better features to robustly use the system, capture real-time feedback and also use for setting objectives. Namely functions better as a general HRIS v.s. a performance management platform at this stage (in my opinion), but has lots of potential.

Namely is being used to streamline a variety of Human Resources processes including employee onboarding, time-off requests, and performance reviews. Namely is therefore being used by the entire company.
  • Streamlined workflows that make it easy for managers and employees to request changes to their profile information.
  • A robust performance process that allows for seamless annual reviews, 180-degree feedback, and more.
  • All-in-one information repository so employees can easily access information about themselves as well as get to know their fellow employees.
  • They have an org chart feature that is great but unfortunately can't be downloaded from the system in an easy-to-view manner.
Namely is a great Human Resources Information System for small and medium-sized businesses. They make it easy to compile resources, streamline processes and create a more positive employee experience. They also integrate with several other systems, making it easier for small Human Resources teams to operate efficiently. Additionally, they have several great features including a performance module that makes it easy for smaller companies to roll out these initiatives.

Namely is being used across our organization as our HRIS. It automates many manual processes like time-off tracking and performance reviews. Namely solves the internal communication issue while reducing email volume. It also provides a vehicle for employees to connect socially since we have a distributed workforce. It makes information and resources more accessible to employees when they need it. It eliminates the paper from all of our processes in HR which contributes to our sustainability goals. The reporting and analytics functions allow us to provide data easily to our management team.
  • The social feed helps employees feel connected to what's happening in the company.
  • Analytics tool is great for getting management buy-in and making decisions.
  • Onboarding is extremely easy for both admins and new hires.
  • Goal tracking tool is easy to use and helpful for employees to see their progress.
  • Time off tracking tool needs to be more customizable to accommodate varying types of PTO policies. Employees need to be able to easily see what time off they have available.
  • Performance reviews need to be more streamlined and user friendly for managers. They should be able to see employee responses while they complete reviews. A side-by-side view would be helpful or integrating the responses by question in one view would work as well. It's just very clunky right now for managers. Would also be great to have a place in Namely where managers can keep performance notes (outside of a scheduled review) on employees to reference during reviews and 1:1's.
  • Increased foldering capabilities in the Resources section to have folders within folders for better organization of resources.
  • Decrease lag time for benefits updates with providers.
  • Updates made in HR profiles should flow over to Teams page, like title and reporting line changes.
  • Ability to search the feed would be great.
  • Analytics on site usage, i.e., pages visited, resources accessed. This data would help show management the usage and engagement of employees as well as ROI.
  • More posting capabilities in the feed would be good. Allow posting of videos, audio files, gifs as well as increased text formatting capabilities.
Namely is best suited for companies with simple policies and processes that don't require a lot of customization. Namely is great for companies that have a very social culture and want to foster a sense of community.

Our organization uses Namely to run most of our HR functions including payroll, performance, PTO, etc. We also use it for appreciation and internal social networking. We have about 50 users. For our small business, it is an "all-in-one" HR solution. I personally use it to manage my small team, including quarterly goal setting and tracking, etc.
  • Payroll seems to work pretty flawlessly.
  • The social networking function is solid and easy to use.
  • The user experience, particularly for PTO and performance management could use a lot of improvement. It is just fundamentally awkward, easy to get lost, etc.
I think Namely is generally a solid solution for small companies. I am not sure how well it scales—some of the UI/navigation problems I have noticed are likely to be even more problematic at a larger organization. It works very well to manage payroll and basic employee details. The social networking component is also well done. The most problematic is performance/goal tracking. They have the right idea, it is just clunky, and we've started tracking this outside of Namely because it is just easier that way.

We are using Namely as one window for all HR solutions company-wide.
  • Responsive support team.
  • Provide HRIS, Payroll, PTOs, compliance and Benefits solutions.
  • User friendly system.
  • Nothing that I could name as of now.
Till mid of last year, their support team was laid back, but now they have improved the whole process and response. It could also be a bit expensive for small enterprises, but overall if we compare it with other HR platforms in the market, then Namely provides a comprehensive and hassle-free system.

Namely is currently being used at World Remit across the UK organisation, there are approximately over 1000 users in our UK entity that use namely as their HR function. We use it to store employee information such as personal details, job information, salaries, holidays etc.
  • Bring employees together (socially).
  • User friendly
  • Can store large amount of data.
  • Rehire ex emp on same record
Namely is very user-friendly and brilliant for Payroll/HR functions. Gives employee freedom to book time off, change personal details and easy for managers to approve/decline.

Namely is used across our organization for a variety of needs: it houses important documents for our employees regarding benefits, leaves of absence, vacation policies, and our employee handbook. Employees also frequently use Namely to request time off, change their addresses and names, input and track KPIs, download paystubs, and tax documents.
  • Allows for customization across the board—for example, as an administrator with employees in multiple states, we can create PTO policies that match the labor laws for each employee depending on what state they live in.
  • Namely’s customer service is phenomenal; they have a large, dedicated team of representatives that work tirelessly to help resolve issues.
  • Cuts out the need to reach out to the HR team for things like name and address changes, and once an employee changes their address in Namely, HR is notified and can immediately pull that information.
  • Does not have the level of KPI management that we would like.
  • Have had issues with assigning tasks.
  • Want more out of their news feed social media-esque feature.
I feel Namely is well-suited for smaller companies. I cannot speak to companies with a larger headcount, but it has really been integral to upgrading our HRIS system, and the fact that it has integration capabilities with many of the other vendors we currently work with makes for an easy, consistent process across the board.

We use Namely across the entire organization for HRIS, payroll, and performance reviews. Our relationship with Namely started in 2017 and we have encountered many challenges since we switched from our previous provider. We have gone through about 10 client success/pod managers in 3.5 years. The biggest problem I have is with the system capabilities and customer support.
  • The interface looks attractive.
  • The mobile app is very user-friendly.
  • Payroll previews are available in real-time.
  • Namely's customer service is the worst I've experienced. The representatives are not on the same page, and they frequently provide different answers, depending on who you speak with.
  • You can not run a report with data for active or terminated employees as of a certain date. You have to manually adjust a lot of their reports to get what you need.
  • The system can not accommodate our 401k matching scale, so everything is manual.
Namely could be used for a very small company or a company that does not operate in many jurisdictions. A bigger or more complex company would be better off using a more experienced company for payroll. Namely has learned from some of their earlier mistakes, but it has been a frustrating journey. We have had errors on our W-2's, taxes, payroll being processed and being pushed back without our notice, and other costly errors. The time and manpower required to correct these errors was not something we considered when switching to this system.

We use Namely across the entire organization. It makes onboarding new employees a breeze, assists in staff communication, and includes apps for the staff to perform timekeeping as well as request PTO.
  • Employee onboarding
  • Staff Paid Time Off
  • Employee communication
  • The app could include task management functions
  • The app could include performance review ability
Namely is a great all-around platform that includes HRIS, Timekeeping, and Payroll

Our Accounting/Finance and HR departments use Namely, primarily. All employees have access to update their bank and contact information; however, three of us across Finance and HR have administrative access to process payroll, review/manage PTO, and run reports.
  • Manage employee information
  • Timely reports available after payroll is processed
  • User friendly platform for all employees
  • Speed of tech support response
  • Accuracy of reports
  • Ability to update all custom report fields on the user's end
Namely is good for small organizations like ours. They need to really focus on their reporting side to be able to manage larger businesses appropriately

We are using [Namely] for Human Resources, payroll, and timekeeping. All salary and hourly employees use it for viewing pay stubs and to complete their benefits open enrollment and viewing and updating personal or benefits information. All hourly employees use the time portal along with managers who approve hourly time.
  • Easy interface for employees
  • It looks nice from the employee perspective
  • People like the birthdays and anniversaries
  • Not being able to make a correction to deduction without voiding out a check and reissuing it. Crazy.
  • Reporting in the system is painful.
  • Time Keeping is limited and hard to make set up changes without Namely support
Namely Human Resources module works well. It looks nice and employee experience is easy. however, people who use the system every day such as payroll and HR team members, it can be painful. The payroll portal is not great. It is hard to correct errors. You can't import updates to information on this side of the system. You have to depend on Namely to make updates for you. The system is not super configurable. Custom fields and calculations are worthless. If and employee cancels medical and payroll has already run, in order to correct it and return funds, you cannot just put a negative medical amount on the next pay period. Namely has to void the check. then you have to enter a misc deduction for amount of the original check. then, you have to cut a new check. then you have to remove the misc deduction. It is a complete pain.

Namely was an HR Information System solution investment. It made onboarding employees more automated and efficient, but payroll now takes about 5 times longer, is more manual, and requires duplicating data across 3 areas in the platform to update information. Our payroll system before was a tiny fraction of the cost and much more efficient and effective. We [regret] this investment by our organization. Customer service hold time is frequently 1 -3 hours and often does not resolve issue in one call, as representatives are not familiar with nonprofit industry issues.
  • Selling a sub-par product at a premium price (payroll is terrible, but the "extras" are well developed in some other areas such as onboarding and workflows).
  • Aesthetics of web site.
  • Onboarding employees.
  • Customer Service- they have tried to improve this area, but it is still very deficient.
  • Payroll functionality- ability to report General Ledger by departments/locations using job codes.
  • Nickel and dime charges for things included with other payroll services.
Namely does a great job in onboarding and workflows, but payroll and customer service (basics) are very deficient.

  • Benefits administration
  • Customer service
  • Compliance
  • Record keeping
  • Payroll
  • Leave of absence tracking.
I love that Namely is easy to use and very efficient. If we ever run into an issue, their customer support is fantastic. Also, when I've made recommendations for platform improvement, they end up somewhere on the roadmap.

Our company is using Namely as our HRIS. We use this across the company. Namely houses of benefits, PTO, Timeclocks, HR information, and our primary source of storing company-wide documents.
  • Namely is incredibly End User friendly
  • Namely is ever changing to better themselves
  • The time system that is integrated with Namely is easy for team members.
  • Namely's support system is failed. They have attempted to fix this in the past year but still falls short of our previous system.
  • Namely is not timely in responses when support is requested
  • Namely previously had flaws in their Termination and rehire process. I haven't deal with their newest update yet.
  • Their frequent updates make it difficult to provide our team members with Quick Reference Guides to do tasks.
  • Namely does not have/provide Quick Reference Guides for End user and Admins.
  • Support with carrier feeds for benefits is painful and unresponsive.
  • Unless you have a serious coder on your team you will have to pay a premium for Namely to help you setting up the following years benefits. This was not the case with our previous HRIS.
  • During our one year stint we have had at least three 'whoops, someone on (Namely's) side clicked something they shouldn't of' with effected our Time and Payroll Production environments
Namely is good for small simple companies. If there is an atypical structure of the organization it is difficult to org chart.

We recently implemented Namely less than a year ago and we had great experience with it so far. Reporting are made to easily tailored to our company's specific needs. We are using Namely across the entire organization and with all the onboarding and offboarding Namely really saved us a lot of time.
  • Reporting: it is super easy to run and customize reports
  • Anniversary and Admin Reminders are great. You don't have to keep track of these anymore and it automatically tells you who and when.
  • Payroll are within Namely and it connects to our HRIS system
  • Namely Time can be much better that what it currently is. We do not like Time clock plus as much as Namely.
  • 401K contribution for both employees and employers should be easily to customize to differentiate bonus and other types of pay other than regular pay. There should be preset rule with automatic matching for Safe Harbor plans. Right now we have to tell the system how much to employer-match
  • Task tracking should be easily to track and move along, indicate percentage of completion, etc..
Right now there are no current pre-set rule for 401K Safe Harbor plan. We had to indicate on an employee basis how much is the employer matching instead of choosing the rule that the matching will go by. Also, our Benefits are a little complicated as it is age banded. I wish the importing of rate tables are a bit easier for open enrollment.

  • Interface easy to use for employees to get onboarded and update their information
  • Benefits brokerage top notch
  • Siloed organization- when it comes to payroll, timesheets, benefits, etc. you have to know who to speak to or what to speak to them about. If you have an issue connecting timesheets to payroll, it most likely can't be solved by just one conversation or one Namely employee. Also they misrepresented their timesheet system and its technically an entirely different company called TimeclockPlus with a different customer service number.
  • Difficult to get customer service responses- Putting a case online is the best way to receive an answer but urgent issues by phone take way too long.
  • They are not great at telling you what you need to know or what you don't know you need to know. For example, if you don't ask the right questions during implementation or with a customer service issue, it can be costly later on. It's understandable that all their clients will use and build the Namely system in different ways but ultimately, one cannot ask what they don't know to ask or what might be an issue later on.
Well-suited for an all in one platform but it's very costly and may not be worth the cost for a lot of companies.

We currently use Namely for a variety of things.
  • Finance department uses it for payroll processing, analysis on payroll costs, reports for month end close, etc.
  • HR department uses it for our sole HRIS platform, recruiting employees, onboarding employees, employee benefits, etc.
  • International team uses it to have sights on their employees and their roles in the company, overall company organizational chart
  • Admin team uses it to track reviews, employees favorite foods, shirt sizes, favorite sports teams, etc.
  • Our employees use it to see the org chart, view their paystubs, review their information for year end, request tax updates or name changes.
As a whole, it solves a number of business problems for us. We are a global team and 99% of our workforce is remote. Some employees weren't even aware of who they reported to prior to us implementing Namely HRIS. We now have teams set up so each manager knows their direct reports, knows their information and employees know who to reach out to when they have a question. It helps keeps our dispersed workforce connected.
  • Updates & Improvements - Namely is always implementing updates and new features for the users. This is very important in payroll as things changes constantly.
  • Time Keeping Integration - the integration with the time keeping piece is inconsistent. When we enter employee info into HRIS, it should feed to payroll and time keeping. It often won't make it to the time keeping portal correctly. There are also a number of places that need to be set up in multiple places (manager, hours benefits, etc)
  • Reporting - Reports are lacking. When asking for a simple, standard report that most other companies have, Namely does not have it. I have to compile a lot of my information manually by piecing their reports.
Namely is not well suited for companies who like good reporting and easy time keeping. Larger companies would do well to find another provider with better customer support too. Currently there is not a number I can call when I have an urgent issue. Their current process is to submit a "case" and then we wait to hear back. It is hard to get a quick resolution on anything.

Our company initially implemented Namely for all employees as an HRIS tool. After slow adoption and some administrative challenges, it has since had reduced functionality, and is now only our our timesheet tracker for hourly employees. Our employees log in, clock in and out, and managers can review timesheets and make edits and add time off.
  • Time sheets are easily editable by managers
  • Time clock adds breaks automatically
  • The system is buggy overall. Employees have challenges getting locked out of the system, receiving errors while tracking time, etc.
  • My experience with calling customer service has been sub-par. Some issues I have they cannot assist with or answer, for example I inherited this system when I started at my company, and adjusting permissions/ownership was a headache.
  • Watch out for your contract auto-renewals! We did not cancel in time and were locked into a full year of service. They were unwilling to negotiate terms even with a 50% decline in staff due to COVID.
  • I don't find it to have a user-friendly interface compared to other HRIS tools I've used in the past.
  • Reporting capabilities are lacking.
  • Employee self service is lacking.
I would not recommend Namely. The quality of the tool compared to the cost is extremely disappointing. Namely has name recognition and I was excited to start using the tool, and am dissatisfied by the interface, the functionality, the admin side, and I have negative feedback from our employees who are frustrated with it. I have used other HRIS tools in the past that I would be much more likely to recommend.

We use Namely across our entire organization. We use it for Payroll, Benefits, TimeKeeping, Performance Management, Onboarding.
  • The integration with Jazz ATS and the onboarding work flow is a strength
  • The adobe e signature feature is a strength
  • The community message board is a strength
  • The ability to link the calendar to google calendar is a strength
  • Payroll functionality - inability to calculate OT based on regular rate of pay adjustments, Inaccurate accruals on paystubs for non exempt employees, and more
  • Time off for non exempt employees does not automatically populate into the HRIS calendar
  • Benefit administration and support and EDI feeds, glitchy and questionable
  • Tasks and Reviews- inability to sort by multiple categories
  • Customer Support - not timely and often given incorrect or incomplete information
  • Inability to pull reports out of one single system for payroll, HRIS and Namely time
  • Namely slow to respond and react to changing labor and payroll laws
  • Tax department not great
The HRIS system is adequate for our current company size but is not scalable as we grow. Payroll and benefits have not been up to the standard we had hoped for.

Namely is being used as the main portal for our employees which includes payroll, benefits administration, record keeping of personal time off.
  • Customer support
  • Reporting
  • User Friendliness
  • New enrollments
  • Notifying brokers about changes in benefits/401K
  • Notification emails for employees changing their benefits or profiles
Namely is cost-effective for smaller companies consisting of 1-50 employees. It also has a user-friendly interface and they have been improving the functionality a lot in the past year.
Namely is still very manual when it comes to updating benefits and communicating to vendors about changes or new enrollments.

[Namely is used] as an HRIS [Human Resource Information System], timekeeping and payroll platform by the HR team and by every employee for social / company communications.
  • Social feed is great for company-wide communications
  • Relatively easy to use for employees
  • No centralized data platform which creates a ton of disparate data processes and errors
  • Does not sufficiently support the most basic employee lifecycle processes and pay practices.
  • Customer support is challenging since there seems to be a huge disconnect with the Namely teams. They don't seem to interact and work together.
  • Namely is constantly "improving" their platforms but does not always communicate the changes to customers. We're often surprised by changes in functionality.
  • Inadequate reporting for very common HR and payroll reports.
It would be sufficient for a very small company that is not running very complex HR processes. It can handle very basic HRIS [Human Resource Information System] functionality. The social feed is a nice feature to use for company-wide communications. The timekeeping integration with Time Clocks Plus works fairly well without too much issue.

The HRIS and payroll platforms are not nearly capable of supporting HR processes covering the typical employee life cycle. The LOA [Leave of Absence] functionality is terrible, the data is not integrated/centralized across platforms - data is kept all over the place. Transfers between companies or division is horrible - data has to be re-entered multiple times which is time-consuming and creates errors. Payroll cannot be sufficiently processed - PTO does not pull in from HRIS, double-time cannot be calculated, LOAs cannot be calculated. Typical reporting is cumbersome requiring multiple disparate reports to be hobbled together.

We currently use Namely as our HCM system, along with payroll, benefits, and our time and attendance module. Our whole organization uses Namely as a tool to read about what's happening in our company, as well as for clocking in and out, benefits selection during open enrollment, and viewing pay stubs and annual statements.
  • HR to payroll integration--Seamlessly transmits data from HR to payroll in a very quick manner.
  • Payroll process functionality--Fast turnaround for calculating payroll and reports to review.
  • Reporting on workflows--Sure, you can make changes quickly with approval flows; however, there's no report to show you when an employee's data was changed and who approved it. You have to scroll through pages of workflows until you find the one for said employee before you can look at what was requested/approved .
  • Talent reviews--The ratings don't come over on reporting. You have to go to each person's profile to view their prior review.
  • Customer service--While it has improved tremendously, sometimes it still takes time to close out cases you opened.
I think it's well suited if you do the full HCM, time, payroll, and benefits modules combined. It would not be appropriate if you only want to use it for one thing--for example, if you only want payroll but not HCM. Then you're dealing with multiple vendors and file feels, and you're going to run into a variety of issues that you'll have to figure out who needs to resolve.

We have been using Namely as our all-in-one HR platform across the entire organization since August 2018. This includes HRIS, payroll, timekeeping, and benefits brokerage. At the time of selection, this platform was not the cheapest (compared with PayChex and Gusto) option, but offered the most features that we were looking for. Though there was a period of a few months were I was completely dissatisfied with the service received from Namely (during most of 2019), they appear to have restructured and made this a focus point starting in 2020 and continuing. Access to articles in the help community is quite useful and submitting a case for additional assistance is simple. A major enhancement I've seen over the past year with Namely is the timeliness and quality of response to cases. I wish that the payroll and reporting features were a bit more robust (I was accustomed to using ADP prior to working for my current company). I plan to continue using Namely and look forward to the continued added features.
  • Response time to service cases
  • Friendly service
  • Broad range of features offered
  • Level of knowledge and expertise from service reps
  • Payroll integration with GL mapping
  • Custom and preset data reporting
Namely is best suited for smaller companies that may be migrating to an all-in-one system for the first time. I don't see Namely being the best option for large companies
