We are a global organization and use Namely in our US office. I am an HR department of one and Namely has helped me streamline many of my processes, particularly onboarding, benefits enrollment, payroll, and performance management. It has also helped the HR department go paperless, which was a huge goal of mine.
  • Namely listens to feedback from its users and frequently makes updates to their technology based on that feedback.
  • Namley's all in one platform has made it very easy for our employees to know where to go for their HR information.
  • Namely provides robust educational content in their Help Community, which is very helpful when trying to trouble shoot issues and learning about the platform in general.
  • Namley's performance management platform is definitely an improvement from what our organization was using before, but I would like to see them invest in making some improvements to streamline and add functionality to that area.
  • They seem to have some very knowledgeable people on their customer support team. But sometimes it's the luck of the draw when you call for support and not everyone is so knowledgeable.
I think Namely works really well for small to medium sized organizations, but could see where it might not be the best solution for larger organizations (over 500 employees).

We use across the organization. We use Namely for payroll and HRIS. For us, Namely addresses the problem of having one source to house all employee information, whether they are US-based or not.
  • Ease of use for team members.
  • Payroll process is fairly simple.
  • Vacation balances: Currently Namely does not breakdown employee salaries to an hourly rate that can be used to calculate the dollar value of vacation balances. I am unable to run a report in Namely that shows me, by person, how much vacation they have earned YTD, how much used YTD, and the current remaining balance in hours and dollars.
  • More gender choices.
  • More diversity tracking choices.
  • Uploading forms can be difficult sometimes.
Namely is a great tool for any organization.

Namely is being used for HRIS, payroll and performance evaluation needs. It has consolidated the use of many different applications into one helpful powerful staff tool.
  • Single Sign On. Users don't need to remember a new password. They use their google login.
  • Simple tools for performance reviews.
  • User Interface is top notch.
  • Payroll and HRIS don't always talk to each other.
  • Customer Support is a 1800 and ticketing system.
  • Timesheets on mobile phones required an upgrade to plan.
Namely is well suited for an organization that spends significant time on HR, Payroll and Performance reviews. If you spend more than 4 hours with these tasks, Namely can help consolidate the amount of time spent on the tasks. This tool may not be the best for you if you have an employee who is content using what they are already doing.

We currently are using Namely as our HRIS and Payroll platform. It is being used across the whole business. Namely is not a platform I would recommend to my network of HR professionals.
  • Pushing the Help Community to clients regularly.
  • Better client servicing.
  • Meeting the needs of the business by way of addressing concerns.
  • We would like to see tickets answered within a 24 to 48 hour time frame.
  • Service reps who have the answer and know how to address issues and concerns.
It is very difficult to say where I believe Namely is well suited. I for one do not think Namely should process payroll. I think the primary function should focus on the HRIS side.

Namely is used across our whole organization as our HRIS, time management, and payroll system. We are a small nonprofit organization, and Namely meets our need for an efficient system for all our HR needs.
  • Customer Support.
  • With the new Namely service pod models, issues are handled quickly and a timely manner. Communications with our organization's service pod team is very easy.
  • Ease of Use for End Users.
  • From experience with other HRIS systems, many employees I worked with have a hard time navigating the system. With Namely's user-friendly interface, our employees adapted to the system quickly. Our employees usually don't have questions or concerns about the use of the system.
  • Easy Payroll Processing.
  • This was my first job where I am responsible for payroll processing. I received all the support I needed when setting up our payroll system two years ago. Currently, the payroll system is so easy to use that payroll processing is a breeze for us.
  • Unique Sick Time Calculations.
  • For our company, we calculate sick time by providing one hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked. Namely was not able to automate this sick time calculation, so every payroll processing, I have to manually calculate and update sick time in the system. We're lucky that we are a very small organization, but I can see this being very cumbersome for a bigger organization.
  • Sick Time Tracking between Namely and Namely Time.
  • When our employees request sick time, the request doesn't automatically connect with Namely Time. Every payroll processing I have to make sure that all sick time requests are manually transferred to Namely Time.
  • Namely eSignature.
  • We have problems with connecting our Adobe Sign account with Namely eSignature. Because Adobe Sign is not working, we are unable to update and add new documents for our employees to sign.
From my experience with Namely, it works very well with small organizations. The system support is very good. We have a very simple HRIS, time, and payroll needs, and Namely has provided us great service that suits all our needs well.

PEO to Namely

Score 7 out of 10

Namely is used by the entire company. Namely allowed us to move from a PEO to having more HR functions in house. We also wanted a system that linked all the systems, making them more accessible, as well as a central communication hub for news, anniversaries, new hires, etc.
  • Almost all HR functions are now one place.
  • The home screen allows our employees to see new hires, anniversaries, company news.
  • The benefits wizard was easy and intuitive for our employees to use.
  • Namely Time does not interface well with Namely HRIS.
  • Managed Services has been scaled back drastically and looks more like a helpdesk.
  • Setting up the EDI feeds for benefits has been very challenging.
For the end user (employee), the system is almost flawless. Our employees really like the system. However, the teams in our admin areas find the system to be hard to use at times. One of the biggest challenges is the lack of data transfer from Namely HRIS to Namely Time. Work needs to be duplicated between the different components HRIS/Time/Payroll etc.

Namely was recently purchased at our organization to be used as our all in one HR/Payroll/Benefits platform. We are also able to do ATS, manage performance, track time, provide companywide communication, and onboard seamlessly. Coming from a situation where multiple systems and manual processes were used, this has been a huge upgrade in saving time for the HR department of one.
  • The payroll process is super simple and flows extremely well. They have really taken what can be a cumbersome process and put it into three simple steps: earnings, deductions, review/approval.
  • Onboarding may at first seem a bit overwhelming to set up but once you have given thought to exactly what you want it to look like, you set your templates, which of course can be changed and updated if things in your company changes. A new hire happens and there is so little work to it. With a minute of my time, someone has joined the crew.
  • Company calendar. Such an easy way to see everything that is going on in the company, including time off and major initiatives.
  • The performance management section is pretty robust. However, it is a bit complicated. If you haven't used a system for performance before, it is a bit hard to learn.
  • Namely states they have an easy-to-use help community and yes, you can type in anything and typically get some type of article or reference. They have lots of videos, too. However, I often can't find what I am looking for. The resources are good for a very brief overview and to teach the basics, but since there is so much customization available, and I am the one customizing, it is hard to get more detailed information--especially if you are unfamiliar with terminology used by Namely.
  • Setting up permissions and access is done at implementation, but wanting to change things can be hard. It would be nice if there were a pop-up next to each item to state what it actually is affecting. I don't want to give someone access to something they shouldn't have.
Namely is a great option for an all-in-one platform, especially since it provides a lot of options at a pretty fair price. It isn't cheap but doesn't cost what the high-end platforms do. I think it is great if you are just looking to get better than where you are. You do need to be prepared to understand what you want your processes to look like, as you will need to customize everything during implementation, when you have someone who can help you with it.

Namely helped us consolidate several systems/websites/processes into one single source of information and action. Additionally it gave us insight into our company, the people and profiles of each person, and trend lines that we can use for decision making. It is used by 100% of our team, and it is extremely easy to use, straightforward, and implementation was actually very easy.
  • Single source
  • Data and trends
  • Performance management
  • Easy of use
  • A bit more customization would be useful
Namely is extremely well-suited to you if you need a solution now but are worried about implementation, which system is right, etc. It is extremely well-suited if you have multiple complex systems, websites, multiple payroll servicing sites, or if your employees have to remember a bunch of different passwords and which websites to go on (like in open enrollment).

We use Namely as our main HRIS system for recruiting, onboarding/offboarding, benefits, and HR as well as company policy communications, general communications, performance management, and PTO management. It is being used across our whole global organization.
  • Namely makes it extremely easy to find all relevant HRIS information in one central location.
  • Namely integrates well with our Jazz HR Recruiting platform, making recruiting and onboarding seamless.
  • Namely allows employees and managers to easily request and approve PTO with minimal clicks.
  • I'd like to see more communications features beyond the standard "activity feed" page that could be used for our main corporate intranet site.
  • I'd like to see more integration with Microsoft Teams.
Namely is very well suited for a company of 100-200 (mostly remote) employees, such as ours. Namely handles multiple states and countries very well.

We use Namely across the company as a whole, from onboarding to benefit enrollment to employee engagement. It is our one source of truth--we use it to make announcements, post appreciations and reviews. It also houses all our employee information for HR. It has helped us reduce our use of paper documents so that our onboarding is smooth. It also is a one stop for our benefit enrollment, which is simpler when we don't have to use paper forms.
  • Employee engagement
  • HRIS data housing
  • Benefit enrollment
  • Reporting
  • Implementation
  • Communication--knowing who your reps are
  • Training
Namely is a very well-rounded system. It helps with the day-to-day task that can bog HR down. The ThinkHR package is also great because of the living handbook, which makes it super easy to update. When you have an issue, you usually hear back from Namely in less than 24 hours.

We use it as our payroll, HRIS, and timekeeping platform throughout the entire company. To be honest it has caused more business problems than it's solved.
  • Nothing. This has probably been the worst payroll platform I have ever used and I previously processed in-house payroll.
  • The systems don't talk to each other. The support level is based on each rep and some communicate better than others.
  • We recently found out that a rep has to manually update our PTO accrual amounts in Namely Time, as the system isn't robust enough to capture multiple levels of accrual rates.
  • There is limited support for companies in the West Coast. You have to wait until the next day to get service if something happens after 2 p.m.
I would never recommend Namely to anyone. This platform has to be micromanaged, as you get conflicting information depending on the rep you are speaking to. We also have to micromanage the system to ensure that everything is being done correctly. This is extremely frustrating as it is a payroll and HRIS system. We shouldn't have to spend more time on our end ensuring things work.

We use Namely for HR and payroll processing.
  • HR interface
  • Payroll processing
  • Analytics
I cannot think of any areas where Namely does things well. We use Namely as a payroll processor, and it is one of the worst payroll systems I have ever used.
  • Namely cannot process simple requests such as splitting a person's time between multiple states.
  • Namely sold us on being able to integrate with NetSuite, and it took Namely six months to provide a feed into NetSuite (it seems that we were the Namely's first NetSuite customer).
  • Namely sells vaporware--be very careful on anything Namely says without independently verifying it with a current user.
  • Namely cannot provide a vacation balance as of a certain date. Namely states that no other customer requests this information.
  • Obviously we are Namely's first accrual-based accounting client. We must perform as much work as before implementing Namely to obtain vacation balances as of the end of each month.
I highly advise against using Namely.

It's used as an HRIS system. It has a lot of features that allow us to do our HRIS tasks in one system.
  • It reads like a Facebook platform for our employees.
  • The benefits admin is easy to use and understand.
  • It's easy to access for pay stubs, etc.
  • The HR backend pieces are really hard to manage. It doesn't read like an HR professional wrote it.
  • The checklists are hard to utilize.
  • The customer success teams are not always timely, nor helpful.
There are still a lot of bugs that need to get worked out within the system, so if someone can be patient, it's a great product for employees.

Our company used Mamely from May 2017 through December 2019. It was used as our primary HRIS, as well as our payroll and onboarding system.
  • Integration with Adobe Sign let's you trigger and track onboarding paperwork.
  • The mobile app is user-friendly.
  • Extremely clunky functionality: Payroll is divorced from HRIS; onerous, multi-step onboarding process prone to errors
  • Benefits plans themselves were not competitive relative to other platforms and brokers.
  • Service and support were particularly bad. Went through many different account managers in our two years and spent countless hours resolving issues on the phone with their support teams.
Given the strength of other HRIS, payroll, and benefits platforms out there today, I would not recommend Namely. We've had a far superior experience overall with both Justworks and Gusto, and this is true whether your company is >50 or over 150 FTEs.

We had endless problems with Namely: from prohibitively expensive medical/dental plans for our team to cumbersome onboarding (duplicating employee information in multiple places) to terrible UX—an employee's bank information NOT synching with payroll (you literally collect it manually in on-boarding and manually re-enter into payroll system). There have also been issues from pay groups not synching to payroll, inability for timecards to synch to the system, (we used Deputy for hourly time tracking), and generally unresponsive or bad service, so we ultimately made the switch to Justworks. It has been a LOT better across most dimensions and our team is much happier.

Namely is being used for our entire organization. We have 5 office locations and a few remote employees. Namely provides an inclusive platform for all employee data and information. This creates structure, improved communication, and transparency. Our team members can see who else works in our company, what teams they're on, and company goals. Employees have access to their personal paystubs, timesheets, time off, performance reviews, signed documents, and benefits. There is a news feed to post updates, employee appreciation, and welcome new employees.
  • Most people I've worked with in Namely is competent, friendly, quick, patient, and very helpful. I've never before worked with any company like this. Their customer service, professionalism, and forward thinking blow me away. (2018)
  • Namely is quick to listen to client feedback and solve problems. They're constantly adding new features.
  • Namely's HRIS platform that faces employees is very user-friendly. It's easy to navigate and learn how to use. For many users, it's self-explanatory. They provide training tools as well.
  • Namely Payroll can be confusing as it doesn't link directly with HRIS time off. It is another platform and there is a lot of duplicating information, increasing potential for errors. There is a lot of manual entering and not great ways to input data for multiple employees at once.
  • The time sheets are not as simple as we'd like. We have a lot of employee errors with these on a regular base. You need to save on each page that you make updates on and the search features for approvers aren't as user friendly as we'd like. (This is separate from the time feature which is an additional expense, we don't use this.)
  • The time off doesn't link directly with payroll and employees have to enter time off twice. This could be user error on our end, but we've been told a few different answers from Namely help as they've made some changes recently. (2020)
  • Namely is constantly updating features but it feels sporadic and is a lot of time and energy to learn how things have changed.
  • Performance reviews are a bit tricky to learn how to use because you have to learn the language that Namely uses. They don't seem very obvious to use. I think their capability is good, but it takes some learning to set them up correctly. Our managers have had some difficulty with them.
  • In general, it feels a bit difficult to make edits and changes simply and efficiently.
I can see large organizations with tech users utilizing Namely very well. For those who are less competent at utilizing technology platforms, it might be challenging to use it well. There are add on features that allow Namely to handle more aspects of the platform, which would help those who are less confident with using technology. It is one of the few platforms that offers all of the features it does, which may work well for remote and larger organizations who are willing to pay and take the time to learn how to use it. Smaller companies or those who don't want to use all of the features might be better off using a simpler platform.

We use Namely across our entire organization - for payroll, for performance, for paid time off, and more. We especially love how helpful it has been during this new normal that we are going through with COVID-19; Namely allows us to have access to pertinent employee information while in "Work from Home" status, and also allows us to get documents eSigned by employees through the eSignature portion of the platform. Additionally, Namely has cut down on a lot of time in processing payroll. The additional time has allowed us to put a new focus on onboarding with social distancing in mind.
  • payroll - super easy and so fast!
  • on-boarding - paperless, files instantly, goes through benefits, cuts down on completion time on the first day
  • time off tracking - easy time off requests, flexible, editable, easy to see what is remaining, used, requested, etc.
  • Partners (CEO's) with guaranteed pay don't receive a pay stub and that is really a hassle.
  • Implementation needed a better roadmap and timeline, but we made it through with little to no trouble.
Namely has been very well suited for us during the COVID-19 pandemic. We began working from home just prior to our full launch with Namely, which was after all pertinent employee information had been uploaded into the platform. This made the transition seamless from an HR standpoint on what information I needed on hand for our employees while at home. We've now been working from home for six months. During the course of that time, I've needed several documents signed by employees, however we have not met in person and/or did not really want to be touching the same documents due to the coronavirus. Namely's eSignature option through DocuSign has been a huge help for us in this situation.

We use Namely as a employee portal and HR/payroll portal. Through the employee portal, our employees are able to interact with each other and access important documents such as pay stubs and tax forms. On the HR/PR side, we use Namely to run payroll and pay our employees via direct deposit.
  • Access to documents that the employee may need (pay stubs & tax forms)
  • Employee Pay History is listed and easy to access-- very user friendly
  • Processing payroll is so easy because the portal is very user friendly.
  • Communication between the HRIS module and Namely payroll could be better
I think Namely is an exceptional tool when it comes to start-ups that look for integration and user-friendly tools. Cutting staff is no problem when it only takes about an hour or less to run payroll.

Namely is currently being used by the whole organization as our main HR platform. Pay and salary information, tax documents, and sick/time off requests can be accessed there by our 1300+ employees.
  • It has a clean, simple interface.
  • May be great for smaller organizations.
  • Menu categories may not feel intuitive.
  • As an organization that has grown to 1300+ employees, Namely is not robust enough to handle our needs.
Namely may be perfectly sufficient for a smaller company, but for a larger organization, another platform may be more appropriate.

Namely is completely central HRIS platform and we use all of its functionality. Payroll (includes Timecards for employees), PTO requests + tracker. Also HR things like tracking birthdays, work anniversaries, etc. We recently switched from a different HRIS system and apparently with Namely we can perform more HR tasks in one place. But as a front-end user of a software I am not happy at all.
  • Time Off tracker can include not only generic PTO, but also other types of time off your company may provide (e.g Birthday Time Off).
  • Performance review Section directly in the app.
  • Sign important documents directly in the app!
  • Timecards sheets are just bad. If you like adding time cards for 5 days into the system and then have software dismiss the data from the page - get Namely!
  • In general user interface is not very friendly.
  • Looks like one of those websites from the 90s.
It's functional, I won't argue with that. You can do many things in one app. You can have managers approve employees' timesheets and their overtime separately. You can add different kinds of Time Off, except general PTO. But if you want your employees not to lose their mind spending too much time managing their information in HRIS platform - get something else. Namely can be too complicated for it's own good.

The entire organization uses Namely. From an employee perspective, they are able to maintain their personal information (address, marital status, etc), to request any updates at any time, and they are also able to submit PTO requests directly from the site or app. From an administrative perspective, HR uses Namely for annual reviews, open enrollment, onboarding, among many other features. Payroll also uses Namely for processing, garnishments, and much more.
  • Easy for employees to submit PTO requests, auto workflow to their respective managers for approval and up to date processing for Payroll while keeping HR in the loop.
  • It keeps everything in one place.
  • Benefits Open Enrollment is now automated and employees will be accountable for making changes or selecting new coverage.
  • Customer service needs major improvement. Sometimes it can take weeks to receive a response even after constant follow ups.
  • The UI can be terrible. There's too much touching in the system, and it doesn't communicate well with each other at all. HRIS & Payroll integration is being worked on, but definitely needs to be improved.
  • Namely doesn't have any experience with ESOP companies - anything outside their black & white scope is very hard for them - not too great at being flexible.
  • Notifications system on the top of the page - you can see the unread notifications which is good, however if you have a lot and you mistakenly miss one notification, there are no reminders.
Namely is a great solution for small to mid-sized organizations. This is not a traditional HR system, so the team in charge would need to be comfortable with creativity and different ways to use the product. We came from a manual approach so Namely has definitely helped us save time and made us more fluid.

Our organization uses Namely as our HRIS and company intranet. Employees use this platform to view pay stubs, enroll in benefits, request time off and view company forms and policies. Our goal was to integrate our benefits,401k, PTO and information as a single source sign on and streamline administration.
  • Offers compliance training and tracking as part of service.
  • Is somewhat easy to use.
  • Offers Everify for I-9's that is seamless.
  • Does not offer 360 integration with 3rd parties.
  • Namely implies that it handles FSA's and HSA's however, they just mean setting up the deductions.
  • Namely uses a general agent as a broker for your benefits instead of servicing you themselves.
I like the integrated training, the e-verify of the I-9's.

Namely is used across our account our entire company, every new employee is added to it. It helps with employee updates, time off and compensation/benefits. It provides a clear place as a manager to see what is currently going on within your team. It's also great to be able to see how the entire company is structured.
  • Great search function.
  • The org chart is really helpful.
  • Easy to use PTO request.
  • The time tracking is not super intuitive.
For any fast growing company Namely is a great option.

Namely is the HR software we use for payroll, employee handbooks, org charts/employee profiles and benefits enrollment. It is currently being used across our entire organization and allows for more HR self-service (for example, the ability to update 401k withholdings without the need for our HR coordinator to get involved). As a growing company, having access to the company org charts makes it easy to keep up with change and putting a face to the name across the business.
  • Benefits enrollment - this has always been very straightforward and easy.
  • Interface - Namely is an extremely user-friendly software that can be picked up without the need for training.
  • Automated alerts through Namely are something that would be interested to see. For example, an automated alert if a new resource is added by our admin, or when a new document is available for the employee to view (i.e new paystub, new tax document).
If you are looking for a fresh, streamlined HR platform Namely is the way to go. We have also had consultants from Namely come out to help walk through benefits open-enrollment which Is beneficial if you are a smaller company that doesn't have the resources for these types of overviews/training.

Namely is used across our entire organization for Payroll, HRIS, Performance Management. We moved to Namely because we wanted to incorporate an online performance management system tied to our payroll and to increase the efficiency of our onboarding.
  • The mechanics of processing payroll is easy.
  • The social media look to the home page is nice.
  • Failure to disclose that their timekeeping system is a third-party. It requires contact to 2 different companies to resolve issues.
  • Duplicate entries needed.
Overall lack of training materials or guidance on "how to" to new users.
The timekeeping system works well if you have a standard shift, but for anything "different," or if your staff works 7 days a week, there is difficulty in programming and calculating hours correctly. There's also difficulty in knowing which company to contact with errors: the timekeeping company (3rd party), or Namely.
This would probably work well if your company is just office staff with standard hours.

We use it as our HRIS, Benefits Broker, Performance Management tool and Payroll software. It is used across the entire org. The HR team are admins and every employee is a user. We make use of the social feed for recognition as well. It keeps all of our people initiatives in 1 place.
  • User friendly on the social feed, and PTO requests.
  • HRIS is intuitive.
  • The goal setting tool is not user friendly so we don't use it.
  • The performance management tool isn't very dynamic.
It's very well suited for really small companies. Once a company gets over 150 it doesn't scale. Payroll is very manual, customer service is abysmal. We really like our benefits consultant and have had really positive experiences with that part of Namely. Payroll is our least favorite but I think it's because we are too big for their target customer.
