Namely is well suited to small and mid-sized companies; it is very cost-effective and allows us to meet most state reporting requirements. However, as our company grows, we find that it is not scaling well. Some process in Namely are still very manual, for example, demographic data transfer from the HCM side to the payroll side. It is fine when you have a couple new hires but as our numbers increase the manual data transfer can be very time consuming.

Namely does not compare to Workday because the size and scale of the company is very different. There are a lot of automated features and ATS integrations that Workday offers and I hope Namely will be able to offer someday as well.

Namely is very user-friendly and super easy to understand. I love the fact that it did not require extensive training to understand how to use the system.

They represent HR, Operations, Warehouse, Finance, Leave Management, Payroll, and Administration. Some employees only use it for time keeping and for keeping their personal information up to date. For the admin users, we use it for reporting for our respective units and other everyday employee life cycle items. Payroll items are varied but super helpful for a lot of the state reporting.

Our internal HR team supports Namely and we reach out to customer service for any issues that we can handle. We all posses an understanding of systems, how to build processes, and detail oriented. Namely is easy to understand and learn and most of our team picked up how to use it properly after a month.

I am not responsible for making this call but as I mentioned before Namely is great for most of our present needs however, as we grow things are starting to get more challenging. Again I was not involved in making the decision as I was not an employee at that time. But the biggest thing that I have heard is that Namely was chosen for it's cost effectiveness and ease of use. Namely also offers great customer service and is able to connect us with a third party if they are unable to help with something (which is rare).
Again I was not involved in this process but had I been I would have focused more on it's scalability, integration capabilities, and a list of the manual data transfer points within the system. I think if we had more awareness in these areas the company could have asked better questions and generated work arounds quickly.
The customer support team is amazing and they have been able to solve every issue that I have brought to their attention. The only reason why I am giving them a 9 instead of a 10 is because their hours are not great for my time zone. But apart from that there are no issues.
We recently had some issues surrounding taxes in a state that we have a physical location in. The Namely support team was able to provide me with a clear and concise list of what was needed from our organization. Once they had everything they were able to help us quickly pay the past due amounts and ensure that we had the correct tax rate going forward.
I have not had the opportunity to provide feedback on enhancements, this is done by our primary administrator. But she is aware of my request for better integration between the HCM and Payroll and I believe they are in the process of fixing that issue for us. I believe they take our requests seriously and do their best to delivery or provide an alternate solution when they cannot.
The biggest impact from the onboarding enhancements is that I no longer have to duplicate my templates in order to update them. I also love that I can see where my new hires are in their onboarding process so that I can reach out to help them along. On the reporting side I love that I can build customer reports and that I can save them and allow my team access if they need them.

  • It does not integrate with our payroll system. We need to manually submit time-off requests to payroll. This requires more labor on our part.
  • This has allowed for a much smoother new hire onboarding (particularly with paperwork), especially as we work remotely.
BambooHR has eNPS, which is pretty helpful and allows us to send pulse surveys to employees to get an understanding of how they are doing. Namely doesn't have anything like that.
I was not there from the beginning of the implementation, but it took a bit longer than anticipated to transfer and upload the data. I believe the upload was incorrect at first as well.

It's pretty easy to use unless you really need to personalize something. There are not many customization options.
The Help community overall is pretty helpful and gives a goos step by step on easy fixes. For more specific issues however, sometimes Namely can take a while to respond.
We recently changed the way our sick time works (went from an accrual basis to frontload the amount). When I reached out to Namely to help me, they walked me through creating the new time off plan and did a mass reset from their end to add everyone to it and change their time accordingly. It was smooth.
I don't really feel as though I've provided feedback to Namely, so cannot answer this.

I have only demoed with Paylocity (never used) but it seems superior to Namely in my opinion as far as time, HRIS, and payroll all communicating.

I demoed a couple others that I would not move away from Namely in favor of. I would say Namely is middle of the pack. They do certain things really well, but have major issues in some areas. Namely is the type of system in which I always double-check work that is supposed to be automated for me because there are often glitches or errors.
I was not super involved in implementation; I joined the team during the tail end of it, so I cannot fully speak to this.
My main issue is that is it not super centralized (payroll, time, and HRIS are separate systems that talk to each other). This makes it confusing when pulling reports and calling/submitting cases to the correct department.

Middle of the road. Great in some areas, not great in others.
Sometimes it's good but often delayed or sub-par. I had one issue recently (fairly simple scheduled email/report issue) that took literally 4mos for them to fix.
I have given limited product feedback to Namely and have not seen it acted on.
I don't feel the enhancements I've seen over the 3 years using Namely have been incredibly impactful. A couple have been "nice to haves" but not "need to haves" i.e. things I would have placed priority on.

Onboarding and benefit administration
It works, but there are many things that are inconsistent that bother me. For example, the job title section makes no sense. In onboarding, it's a search field, but everywhere else it's a long dropdown list. And why do job titles need to be an object rather than a text box? This is just one example of issue areas.
Namely support has always been incredibly helpful and quick to respond to any and all requests that we have. There have been many times where I encounter and error (or cause one) that they are able to resolve within 2-3 hours. Honestly it is one of the most efficient services that Namely offers.
We were transitioning a portion of the team to it's own LLC with relatively short notice. The support team was able to get me connected to the right people and get a project set up so we could make the transition ahead of schedule. In addition, the team checked-in on progress throughout the project to ensure it was succeeding. And this was even during the busy times of November - December.
The primary piece of feedback I always think of when asked about how to improve Namely is to improve consistency of forms on the platform. Many things have been clearly designed and built by different team members with little QA to ensure consistency. One such example (and headache area) has been the onboarding form. The salary input field is different than everywhere else on Namely. Importing from JazzHR breaks for separate LLCs and there is not much flexibility in the templates (e.g. choosing a different W4 for different state addresses).
We have seen the improvements that Namely has made over the year and half we have had the service. Overall the feature upgrades have been nice, but have minimally impacted/improved our workflows.

  • Payroll is done very well, especially by Christin Taylor. She is the best.
  • Review tracking is easy and efficient.
  • Calendar is great.
  • Definitely in benefits. I decided not to use Namely benefits with how poor communication was.
  • Namely Time is not user friendly, also don't like how it's separate from HRIS.
  • Project Services is poor in communication. I have to ask for updates from them.
It's great in the areas I described (payroll reviews, employee relations. Not so much in benefits and Namely Time. There are many glitches.
