It's great for the department to get a general idea of the landscape for a category. It's also good for social listening if you had just ran a campaign that was captured under a hashtag. It's not as great for finding your specific target audience or looking for trending topics that you have no prior knowledge about.

NetBase is well suited as a starter social listening tool, where you can get an overall idea of how a topic does in social. Businesses considering NetBase should ask if NetBase works for their specific target, and how can they refine the results better to encompass as many platforms as possible.

NetBase is excellent for almost all social listening, influencer identification and owned content/campaign performance analysis. It has few limitations due to the constant evolving of the platform by the dev team at NetBase.

Best suited to processing large volumes of social media mentions. As with any social analysis tool, a degree of expertise and understanding of social media platforms, audience trends etc. is important to get the most out of the tool, so an "expert user" approach should be prioritised over making it accessible to lots of people with minimal training. The pricing model is particularly suitable for a small number of users who are likely to be looking at a large number of brands/topics.

NetBase is excellent for determining the strength of a given campaign and providing easy to understand charts and graphs that explain performance. It's strong for tracking the long-term engagement for a brand as the tracking goes back over two years. It's also good for comparing share of voice between one brand and their competition.

NetBase is one of the best social listening tools out there, and has the most accurate sentiment software I have ever seen. It does those things well, and sticks to those items. I have avoided purchasing any of their pulse dashboards because it is not very intuitive or easily adjustable.

I would say Netbase is a fantastic tool to use when the social conversation needs to be examined. It is largely Twitter based which would make using the data a bit skewed but nothing is 100% accurate across the board. this is a perfect tool to use to back up additional evidence you have gathered.

How customizeable do you need your software to be? If you have very specific needs, NetBase is great. If you prefer a "plug and play" approach, it may not be for you. Because it's so customizeable, it's not as easy to use - you need to tinker with each page.

In situations where one is looking for a direct response, the program is very useful! An example would be if, say you wanted to know what the public thought of the GOP Debate in regards to Donald Trump, then you can easily search those key terms and get an overall view of the landscape. An example of when NetBase would be less appropriate is if you wanted to search for Dare Devil Loaded Grillers and Taco Bell. Taco Bell has a strong Millennial consumer market, which means they are more likely to use sarcasm and terms that could seem negative, but are meant to be positive. For example, someone might say, "Those Dare Devil Loaded Grillers are so hot I'm gonna die."

It is well suited for industries and brands that are frequently talked about and discussed on social media. The more specific or esoteric the topic, the harder it can be to get enough data to generate strong insights.

You have to pay attention if need data from the past. For example, would you like to know what people said about your brand last week or last year? Most tools on the market today charge you by number of results and you have limit on keywords to configure. So these are important points to consider.

Agency use of Netbase

Because of the cost, I would say that the tool is most beneficial for an agency setting, as you are able to create unlimited topics. If you are a small or midsize brand, the ROI probably isn't there. However, large scale brands with a global presence could benefit.

I think that overall NetBase is one of the best tools on the market. There are certainly tools that look a bit better, but the core algorithms behind NetBase are some of the best on the market. Now its time to focus a bit on user experience.

I think it's very well suited for agencies with multiple clients or large brands. It's extremely expensive, so wouldn't be good for small businesses or smaller agencies. We work mainly in the B2B sector, and it's really nice that Netbase captures very in-depth data since not all of our clients have a large social media presence, even though they're major brands in the industry. I love the ability to create themes, and cross-reference those themes with brands. For example, we can analyze Firestone Building Products metal wall panels in terms of price, quality and installation.
