  • Brand Analysis - Netbase helps to monitor our brand health by understanding customer opinions and emotions and sentiments on most popular social media platform. It can extract real time full text and even context when needed, so you can always make the extra effort to dig into certain opinion. The data can go back as long as 12 months which also helps build your brand health growth over time.
  • Custom Dashboards - Netbase has nice and various visualization and templates to choose from when building dashboards for the head of our operation teams. Since they are not data experts, the various colorful charts are very handy in terms of making the data easily comprehensible.
  • Competitor analysis - Netbase enables you to keep an eye on the categories with its brand and category key word capacity. This is extremely useful to our client who wishes to monitor and hence be able to respond ASAP when the competitor makes a new move.
  • I'd like to see more personalized word cloud function. When making presentations it's nice to have a cloud shape word cloud for example to meet the taste of some artsy clients.

  • Gives you the opportunity to make your search as specific or broad as you want, which is useful for research.
  • Provides detailed sources and quotes in the sound bytes, which is great for reference.
  • Refreshing the page with a different brand's information was never smooth and you couldn't just select a different one to see a new word cloud you would have to delete the previous and then create the new one.

  • NetBase is the only social analytics tool I've come across that has sentiment analysis capabilities I can trust. Their deep semantic analysis provides sentiment analysis that's actually accurate, and I can't say the same for other conversation research tools.
  • NetBase's ability to create a "custom dashboard" look and feel has fulfilled requests that we get on an ongoing basis from clients looking for a one-stop social media dashboard.
  • The customer support was top-notch. I was lucky that some NetBase staff actually worked in my same building, but either way, they were approachable and always willing to hop on the phone to assist.
  • At the time when I used NetBase, you had to create queries in a different platform than where you actually reviewed the dashboard - one being "Insight Composer" and another being "Workbench". They may have consolidated this, but at the time it was frustrating and updating queries should have been easier.
  • It was frustrating when changing the terms/input for one section of the report would affect all of the other sections - sometimes, I wanted to just see how things changed when altering the date range or input for only one section and keep the output for other sections as-is.
  • The cost of NetBase was higher than many of our client's budgets would allow, which was a shame.

  • Actual individuals' feedback "From the horses' mouth".
  • Mass aggregation of collective viewpoints.
  • Quantifiable metrics exportable to Excel on general social media user contributions.
  • Since NetBase taps in directly to individuals' feedback, profanity can slip through unless closely monitored.
  • There are several social media sites that NetBase does not seem to tap into just yet.
  • When putting together a profile search, one has to be broader in your search and then narrow down through trial and error. This may not be a negative but when compared to something more intuitive like Google, it stands out - but this may be nit-picking.

NetBase! Getting Social.

  • NetBase allowed me to monitor brands on social media like no other tool has done before. I was able to get rid of terms that did not apply to the brand I was looking at and narrow down my query.
  • The way in which NetBase presented the information/analysis was concise, clear, and easy to understand.
  • I was able to create several visual aids which I could use in presentations/reports. For example, wordels & graphs.
  • For some reason my access has been turned off, I need help getting it back on.
  • They send a lot of e-mails, some of which get annoying.

  • Search queries are easy to do for anyone - it allows you to enter the primary term followed by terms to include or exclude, language, sources, etc.
  • Focus Wizard is a tool that allows you to filter your existing search query - it's an easy way to filter out spam, noise, or even make sure that you are filtering in the right terms.
  • Dashboard widgets - you're able to click into one widget like choosing a date range in a timeline or clicking on a term in a wordcloud and the following widgets below will automatically alter to display the filters applied above.
  • Need to be able to monitor owned channels - company Facebook page, Twitter account, YouTube account, Google+ profile, etc.
  • Need to be able change or train the sentiment - sentiment in Netbase isn't accurate and would like to be able to manually change the sentiment.
  • All search queries should automatically have the Twitter fire hose applied for no additional fee.

  • One of the most useful things about Netbase is its ability to geographically categorize consumers. This provided key insight on consumer preferences based on location, which helped develop/recommend strategies for expansion.
  • I was also very useful to have the capability to change the graphical representation of data. Sometimes a pie chart works better than a bar chart, and changes like these are so easy to make in Netbase.
  • The filters were also particularly useful. I was able to find some very pointed soundbites by adjusting the key word filters.
  • I was hugely impressed by the software's capabilities. I can't remember wanting/needing to change anythihg.

  • Categorize sentiment on a particular subject online. Other products I have used didn't fully understand sentiment (especially when slang terms are used). NetBase was the best program I've seen that does this.
  • Personalizing the dashboard. You really can tailor this program to fit whatever need you have. If you want to compare sentiment between two different brands, or two different products within the same brand.
  • Visualization. The immense amount of data that Netbase pulls in could be daunting to look at (and make sense of). The different graph options, word cloud fonts
  • Data Exportation. It's amazing that you're allowed to export not only the chart/graph/word cloud images, but you can also export the hard data in Excel. And not just a few cell rows... you can export thousands and thousands. Not to mention that the excel exports are all laid out in a digestible format (i.e. it's not just a huge document full of numbers formatted poorly).
  • NetBase can be SO helpful in learning more about consumers and uncovering perceptions about a product, but only if you set up your dashboard perfectly. Creators have to take a considerable amount in building the dashboard. And for a beginner user, it can be slightly tricky to figure out certain things. The Q&A/Manual is helpful (and better than others), but it could still be improved. Perhaps there could be more [?] buttons within the dashboard, so that users won't have to refer outside of the browser so often.
  • When outsiders want a gist of what's popping up on NetBase, creators still have to export the images/charts and create their own keynote/powerpoint presentation (to add in summary). Perhaps NetBase could add a text box above each section in the dashboard, that creators could add their analysis to. That way, they can just export the document and send to coworkers (without having to cut and paste everything outside of NetBase).
  • I wish you could edit certain things (e.g. sentiment and search terms) while you are still looking at the dashboard. Jumping back and forth between pages, you don't see section changes as they happen.

  • When I used Netbase for our campaigns, I found it a very helpful social listening tool. It is very easy to use and helped to provide cool insights about the audience of the brands.
  • The brand analysis was very useful and I especially liked the sentiment part a lot because it was very accurate and very customized for using, I was able to decide what terms to include and what to not include. This is one of the differentiators from other social listening tools that I used.
  • I expect to see Netbase integrate more digital behavior other than only social media. For example, what devices are people using and what segments they are in, etc.

  • Netbase is very easy to work with. Right out of the box, you can find some interesting insights about your brand you might have not been able to capture before.
  • Netbase is customizable. If you are someone who likes to get into details, NetBase allows you the flexibility to do so.
  • The biggest frustration with NetBase is the speed. Sometime running queries can take much longer than what I would like (30-40 seconds)

Student User of NetBase

  • NetBase is very good at catching social media keywords around brands and analyzing them, and classifying them.
  • I usually use it to see keyword clouds in Insight Workbench which will include the main reviews from huge customers sets. One example of what I have done is to find attributes associated with the brand Diet Coke. I found that most important words in the cloud are "caffeine", "coke zero", "calories" and "coffee"...
  • I really like the "Net Sentiment" timeline, which always gives me information about whether people are discussing specific campaigns over social channels or not. For example, in March 18, 2012, Jean Paul Gaultier designed new Diet Coke’s cans. 16.7% of positive sound bites mentioned Jean Paul. And there was no negative sentiment about this advertisement.
  • I like NetBase and really use it a lot. So I think the most important thing is you make sure to define your "key words" and different kinds of filters as accurately as possible.
  • The product cannot distinguish brand names from other meanings using the same words. For example, it's very difficult to filter those brands names like Red Bull, Target etc. from regular mentions which have nothing to do with the brand.
  • Sometimes I use the data in NetBase to make the "Brand Passion Index" which shows different top brands' "passion" in one specific industry. But each time I have to export the data and analyze it in Excel. I had hoped that NetBase would be able to calculate it and show it to me directly.
