We have Boomi as an iPad solution and will be implementing edi soon as well. We use Tipalti for ap automation and it is integrated as well.

In our organization, NetSuite is the hub for pretty much everything. We use custom records a lot. We have all of our project information for every job that we do stored in NetSuite. All of our financial partnerships are managed in NetSuite. We have partner access, so all of our subcontractors, everybody accesses NetSuite internally, we use it obviously for all of our financials. We have a wide variety of users, but my job is to support those users and we use case management for that. The complexity of all of the communication channels that have to take place for our industry. We have a lot of permitting and regulatory concerns that we have to get addressed, and the quicker we do that, the happier the customer is. We have a lot of communication streams with our subcontractors, our sales partners, and our financiers to make sure that everything gets connected the way that it needs to be and everything set up quickly and smoothly.
  • NetSuite has been great for us because it's highly adaptable. We have a niche way of doing our business and nobody really operates exactly like we do. And NetSuite doesn't operate that way out of the box, nor does it for hardly anybody that uses it, but it's really adaptable. So we were able to customize it, create all the fields that we need, all the links that we need, all the integrations that we need to make it work well for us.
  • Honestly, right now, my biggest pain point is kind of our own doing, but I would appreciate a little bit more support and help in the area of performance management and kind of understanding how our application is built, what are the best choices for customizing or solving a problem in terms of performance, because our company is rather large, we have a lot of data coming in and out, and that has been an issue for us recently.
It has suited us really well for our internal workflow, for our case management, the approval workflows that we have set up around those have been really easy to set up and modify, create new case types, and things like that. Room for improvement, maybe just the visualization of the data, the way that we have it laid out, and understanding how all the pieces and parts connect once it's all built out.

We use it as our central GL database. We have a lot of different kinds of technology solutions that we use around it, but at the end of the day, everything needs to feed into NetSuite. It's our single source of financial records and everything like that. The big thing that NetSuite addressed for us was the multi-subsidiary. So in real estate development, we have every single one of our projects as a different entity. We have multiple different operating companies as well. We have subsidiaries of those that need to consolidate and eliminate inter-companies and all of that. And so that was our big problem solve for NetSuite. We moved from QuickBooks desktop previously, and so it saved us a ton of time there.
  • I already mentioned the intercompany, which saves me a ton of time. Being able to book entries across multiple subsidiaries all at once is a huge time-saving. I also really value the way that it integrates with some other technology solutions, and I'm going to shout out to Ramp right now. I implemented that last summer and for credit card spend and being able to not have to spend hours reconciling credit card and having all the data feed right into NetSuite instantly without any kind of reconciliation needed is a huge time save. And it's not just Ramp that does that. We've used Stampli as well for AP and it does that. We recently implemented Rippling to handle HR and payroll. And so that's one of the big things. And that was a big selling point for me too, was being able to find these other solutions that can automate and make us very scalable. But they all talk nice. With API direct kind of integrations with NetSuite.
  • I think there's the challenge of NetSuite of just navigating how big it is. It's also, I don't think it's always the most user-friendly platform. I feel like I've been implementing still for two years of just learning how to, there's so many different things you can do, which is great and that's what I really like about it, but it's also not the most intuitive or user-friendly software.
In our business where it's really well suited is not only our multi-subsidiary management, but also being able to creatively. In real estate, we have things like carried interest and different investment valuations. It's been really unique in that I can keep all of those in one account, but using different classifications I can break out which investment is worth which amount I can break out between the dollars we've put into it versus what our valuation, our current quarterly valuation is of it. Being able to get a snapshot picture of all of that without having to pull together a bunch of different Excel files and all of that has been another big improvement of ours. One place that it's definitely lacking (and we've had to, and this was part of my whole ERP search process): so we have an in-house property management company because we build apartment complexes and then we have to manage them. I was trying to find an all-in-one solution and I looked at things like Yardi or MRI didn't like them as much for the intercompany and other things, the things that I love about NetSuite. So we've had to, I've realized we just have to work in two different systems. We have a separate property management system for the property-level books, and then I import them into NetSuite. But I think that's just kind of one of those things that it just is not going to be able to do everything.

Well, it's kind of everything for us. We use it for invoicing, we use it for our accounting purposes, making payments, receiving payments for APAR. We also use it to track our shipments on the water. We use it to estimate our landed cost and duties and tariffs as well and shipping as well.
  • The learning, the LCS is very good. Anything that you'd like to learn, whether it's for an admin from security to dev, you just have it at your fingertips. There's no limit to what you can learn. I think that's really great that it's just open for everybody.
  • I think for me, because I'm so new, the biggest struggle that I have is not really understanding the whole big picture of how NetSuite plays into the role of a company and I'm learning it from backward. I think if I had a visual aid or kind of a guide of "this is how NetSuite integrates into an IT infrastructure, this is how you'll use it and this is kind of how NetSuite's recommended use of NetSuite would be from Oracle," that would be helpful for me. So just kind of the bigger picture is how I like to look at things and analyze it and fix the problems that I have.
I think for payments, especially with AP and AR, there are so many different vendors, but there are so many different features you can have for NetSuite financially that's comforting. For me, I came from finance first before I transferred to IT 15 years ago. So I understand the challenges.

Use as primary ERP system for accounting, sales/CRM, sales order processing, purchasing, inventory management, supply chain planning, quoting, AR, AP, GL, financial reporting, performance management, expense reimbursement, multi-curency, multi-subsidiary, etc. NetSuite ERP is used to run our business and process all our business transaction. It is a robust, cloud based, customizable ERP solution at an affordable price for small, mid-sizes and large businesses. We maintain no IT staff. As the CFO, I serve as the system administrator. The system is easily expandable and extendable both domestically and internationally. We have a Chinese subsidiary and have added businesses over the years, which I was able to set up and implement easily myself. Capabilities are continually expanding with 2 automatic upgrades a year. You are always on the latest version of the software and uptime is 99.8%.
  • Importing data via csv file uploads
  • Consolidated financial reporting
  • Multi-currency
  • Expense reimbursement with easy to use mobile app
  • Customizable fields and records to meet your needs
  • Dashboards to track performance
  • Global search to easily find anything
  • Tremendous amount of online help and learning tools (LCS)
  • Support - In my experience, it's limited to answering questions and resolving system performance issues, and won’t help you write searches or reports or scripts or with customizations.
  • Jon shop manufacturing
  • In my experience, phone support not available without support contract
  • I believe Advanced Customer Support (ACS) is weak and uses mostly off-shore resources
Well suited form more complex businesses that need multi-company or multi-subsidiaries and multi-currency. In my opinion, it's not ideal for smaller, single entity companies, sole proprietors or companies that don’t have a great deal of complexity. Can be excellent for those that need a robust online storefront and expandable full featured ERP solution. Best suited in my opinion for companies with growth potential from small to mid-sizes companies. Will be the last system you will need to invest it. Easy to use and learn and has all the features and capabilities of more expensive systems.

NetSuite is our ERP. We use AR, AP, Fixed assets and the general accounting modules.
  • The AP process is very smooth, especially with the addition of bill capture.
  • The accounting process is very straight forward. Easy to customize if needed.
  • The fixed asset system with respect to leases. Lease modifications don't work well, depending on the modification.
NetSuite is easy to customize if needed and really easy to learn

Our order processing and management are done on NetSuite - sales order/cash sale, fulfillment, invoicing, billing, purchase orders, and inventory control. NetSuite congregates this order process in one place, which is nice.
  • Order processing.
  • Inventory control.
  • Billing/invoicing.
  • Performance/speed.
  • Usability for casual or new users.
Since I am in the operations department, NetSuite is a good tool for us to be the liaison between warehouse/fulfillment and sales/marketing. It communicates effectively between the two - it is easy to manage specific customer requests and communicate them to the warehouse team to make sure orders are fulfilled in a timely manner and to the customer's specifications.

We have used NetSuite for company-wide financials for five years, and one year ago, we deployed advanced manufacturing for the operations side of our business. We use MRP, Procurement, Order management, marketing, and financials today.
  • No downtime! We haven't had any outages in a year!
  • Easily extensible with partner applications such as Tipalti, RFSmart, PaceJet, and Celigo.
  • Integrated data across operational functions.
  • Ease of creating simple customizations via workflows.
  • WMS does not have enough features to be robust enough for use: License Plating, UCC labeling and shipment rate shopping.
  • Outsourced manufacturing requires lots of manual effort to realize - 6 transactions to receive inbound completed manufactured products! (TO to the manufacturer, IR, PO for finished goods, WO completion, TO, IR).
  • MRP does not have enough training materials available.
In general, it was relatively easy to implement and extend to areas where we have more complexity.

Fionic is a financial services company and uses NetSuite as its financial book of records. It is used for financial reporting and cash collections.
  • Flexibility of financial reporting process.
  • Vast infrastructure to support various needs.
  • Able to scale to a much larger organization dealing with multiple jurisdictions.
  • Learning curve to start functioning efficiently.
  • Ability to easily connect with Canadian banks and the application of cash to a large number of customer receivables.
  • Support for multi-currency reporting/implementation.
NetSuite is an investment into the finance/accounting department. When the company is large and the finance/accounting department, there is additional room for efficiencies, which can be had with the deployment of NetSuite. The implementation process and learning curve are also an investment, and it takes time to understand the best way to develop processes.

NS is our core business system. We use it for all our finance and accounting day-to-day. The most important module we use is ARM. ARM helped us to properly allocate revenue, recognize different schedules, and reclass.

  • Order to cash.
  • ARM
  • Project management.
  • Employee management.

We use NetSuite ERP mainly for accounting and financials. We use SuiteApprovals heavily as we enter vendor bills and send them to three layers of approvals. We use journal entries and vendor bills the most out of all the transactions. We rely on many of the financial reports to make business decisions. We are currently expanding our NetSuite ERP users to more people in the company beyond the accounting team. We are in the process of creating dashboards and roles. We have created many saved searches and customized reports as well.
  • SuiteApprovals
  • Reporting (Financial reports)
  • Customization of saved searches to show many forms of data
  • Vendor ACH bank payments module
  • Greater CRM capabilities
  • Different types of licenses (somewhere in the middle between full license and employee center)
  • More customizable dashboards with a more friendly UI (change in creative design)
NetSuite EPR is great for a company that wants to see basic reports and wants to pull easy datasets together to create business solutions. The saved searches capability is great and such a quick tool to get fast reports. Also, the customizations (such as custom fields, records, and workflows) allow you to make your NetSuite personal to your company which is great for businesses who have unique circumstances. I've found the reports themselves are difficult to customize and do not have a lot of options for making data visually appealing. I've also found it is difficult to edit the SuiteApprovals and it would be nice to have more controls to go in and make changes as an Admin. I believe some settings are not as intuitive, such as the reporting setting that only shows financial reports during accounting period. I believe these tips and tricks should be more accessible.

We use NetSuite ERP to manage financials for our BPO and SP clients. Usually we move clients to NetSuite ERP when audits begin to consider controls, or if the client comes across the need for more robust reporting, a higher volume of entries, inventory/procurement management, or fixed assets. NetSuite ERP is typically the primary ERP we suggest for clients we take on that are already at this level.
  • Data Extraction
  • Transaction Imports
  • Fixed Asset Handling
  • Advanced/Custom Approval Routing
  • Banking Integration
  • Payment Provider Expansion (for AP)
  • More Readily Available Training/Support Programs for Partners
I think NetSuite ERP addresses most of the primary account and finance concerns that a business would have when determining the best option for an ERP system. The only cases I wouldn't recommend NetSuite ERP in are for clients where the cost would be prohibitive or where clients require an all-in-one system that includes payment processing through any banking institution.

We use NetSuite ERP to manage all of our inventory, receive inventory, accounting, ecommerce and order fulfillment, and sales in store on NSPOS. My primary use of ERP is to manage publish and manage products on the website. NSERP makes this easy because by using one single source to mange items. For example, the same items created for selling in our physical location are easily published for sale on the SuiteCommerce webstore.
  • Allowing custom fields on records like item records.
  • Providing one single data source for reporting.
  • Allows creation of very granular permissions for users
  • Latency in ERP is often an issue and impacts individual users' performance
  • Learning curve for new users is an obstacle
NetSuite ERP is well suited for large organizations that have the technical human resources and focus to support ERP. Your success with ERP will be determined by your ability to extract the benefit which requires development. Everything is "in the box" but you need to get it out of the box. ERP would be less suited to organizations that lack technical resource or dedication to technical development.

Order management, and Work Order/Assembly Management, Job Tracking (with customization).
Each subsidiary does things slightly differently and we are able to accommodate the requirements of each company.
  • Customization: We have a custom Artwork Process (where customer send their artwork to be printed on goods) and approval process. The artwork is attached to the SO, and the graphics team will build Artwork Proof custom record based on the customer's requirements. When we hit save, the Artwork Proof is automatically sent to the customer for approval.
  • WMS: We don't have NetSuite Warehouse Management System (yet), but we would like to use it. The biggest limitation is WMS picking from Work Order. We want to introduce picking strategies from Work Order and it hasn't been easy.
  • Account Reconciliation: We would like to see more fields that we can match on and create matching rules. Example: EFT payment confirmation numbers.
  • Commission incentives: Very limited in terms of 'rules' we can create to calculate commissions.
Well Suited: Item Management and demand planning.

Not-so-well Suited: WMS & WIP, especially from Work Orders.

We are using it as a database mostly for the projects I am on. My focus currently is to integrate in house applications with NetSuite ERP so that we have a consistent data source without users have to go too deep into NetSuite ERP when not necessary. We also use it for WMS, SOs, POs, etc.
  • One data source
  • Role access
  • I believe getting data out of it can be insane until you have a deep understanding. (It's still insane once you understand but palatable)
  • I believe the learning resources are lacking
  • Every tool has a niche and use case, but it usually isn't yours
I gave it a seven because it can be very helpful. Everything in your business can be in one place, which gives you one solid place for data. That data purity can be a huge advantage because everyone sees the same info. It can be easily updated and immediately visible across the platform. Some negatives are the niche use cases of some tools that make them useless for most users, in my opinion. In my opinion, support is not great, especially as you get a more complex implementation as there is just too much going on for people on the outside to quickly help.

We use financial ERP for AR, AP, Fixed Assets Financial Reporting.. We also use ERP for project accounting and gave several problems with that functionality.
  • Journal lines details
  • Simple queries reports searches
  • Simple interface
  • Building reports
  • Analytics
  • Cohesiveness between modules
Simple company set up. Less complicated transaction formats will fit best for NetSuite. However, if more complicated modification should be made it's also an option. Overall, it meets most of accounting and finance needs of the company. There is a need for continuous trainings because of learning curve .
