Users have found it challenging to get up to speed with the platform, potentially due to limited documentation and a lack of robust support resources.

Issues with Software Updates: Some users have experienced issues with software updates in Nutanix, stating that updates are sometimes rushed to release and result in significant problems with buggy software. As a solution, users recommend purchasing tech support to mitigate these issues.

Complexity in Management and Integration: Multiple reviewers have expressed frustration with various aspects of management and integration within Nutanix. Users find the interface for managing VMs on AHV unfamiliar compared to VMware's folder structure. Nutanix is becoming the heart of our internal IT architecture platform. We are busy migrating services one by on to Nutanix. We are promoting this platform to other departments but some are having issues with the false idea of being vendor-locked.
We have been able to evangelize other business units and we are now providing IaaS using the "project" feature of AOS. This is working brilliantly!

I recommended Nutanix as a hyper-converged solution when we decided to retire our old VMware cluster. We wanted to simplify our infrastructure by eliminating the SAN switches and getting better performance by having storage and compute in the same host. Our whole environment runs on Nutanix and all the users of every department are impacted by Nutanix.

We purchased our first Nutanix cluster three years ago. It was a hybrid cluster and we used it for our primary vSphere cluster at our corporate data center, which multiple locations around the world access for various applications, including Exchange and ERP interfaces. We were able to replace two EMC SANs and an aging IBM blade center that made up our previous vSphere cluster. Migration to and management of the solution was a breeze. Since we were running vSphere on the Nutanix cluster we were able to use the regular vMotion capabilities to migrate all our VMs from the old cluster to the Nutanix cluster. All the one click upgrade features that Nutanix advertised worked as advertised as well. It pretty much did what they said it would do.

I will say, however, that once we migrated some of the heavy workloads to it we did see noticeable performance degradation, mainly once we moved our Exchange environment to it. We also saw our backup times extend extensively. The primary reason was because of disk latency. When we purchased this cluster it was an unplanned an unbudgeted project, so we had to make it fit into the budget so we had to size around a small budget. In hindsight we should have waited the following year to budget properly for it so we could have done an all-flash system. Last year we did by an all-flash Nutanix cluster to replace this hybrid Nutanix cluster and performance has been nothing short of exceptional now. We did move the hybrid cluster to our DR site so we still are getting purposeful use out of it. So my biggest learning experience is to take the time to size properly. If you have any type of high database workload, such as Exchange, SQL, etc. I would highly recommend an all-flash system. You won't regret it.

I would also like to mention that Nutanix technical support is the best I've ever seen of any company. When you call them you get an experienced tech who knows what they are talking about right away without having to get bounced around and they take the time to work through any issues you are having.

Nutanix is an exciting option for our storage data centers to consolidate the footprint and management requirements for IT infrastructure. This new approach to data storage does not reduce the requirement for data protection and application recovery. Unitrends’ All-in-One Backup and Disaster Recovery capabilities are extended to offer native integration for all hypervisors running in Nutanix environments, including Nutanix AHV. Following these configuration recommendations will go a long way to reducing the IT organization’s workload without sacrificing the protection of the corporation’s most critical assets - their data. Our biggest push was to consolidate three storage platforms into one while jumping into a hybrid storage solution.

We use Acropolis for our business critical trading solutions in our Frankfurt data centre. This provides us with control over a remote office with minimal overhead and no middleware software like VMware to manage.

NUTANIX - Try to believe

We have a nutanix cluster (in metro) available across two sites. We chose to use Nutanix because it is very simple to implement and manage. Some features like ABS (Acropolis Block Services) are working very well and are useful for a different use. The performance is great and the features of storage optimization and deduplication really work. [You can] upgrade without interruption. It’s very useful and simple to manage the analytics tool. The kernel is very robust. Pay attention when working with two nodes at the same time, it may create some problems with CVM and vCenter.

We bought a Nutanix solution to replace all of our production servers, to run the whole business. We had looked at virtualization before but could not find an appropriate solution for our size of business. We needed to replace our old servers, have greater visibility of how our servers were running, and reduce power consumption and heat.

We are using it in our production and backup data center. Servers in the VM environment run on Nutanix and have helped our small IT department focus on all the other jobs we have instead of maintaining and massaging the older 3 tiered architecture we moved from. Nutanix just works like it should.

I was tasked with upgrading our current data center and making it more simplified. It was a complete overhaul that had to take or old environment and upgrade it to not only current technology, but current software that followed our licensing and support matrix. We use Nutanix in our data center for all applications and workloads. It is used for Citrix, SQL, and several custom apps, things like inventory, purchase orders, invoices, and communication flow and processing.

I helped implement Nutanix as our default architecture just over a year ago in two out of four of our data centers. The third will be online in the next quarter and we will be fully reliant on Nutanix for our entire organization, server workloads as well as VDI by the end of 2017 if all goes well. There have been very few instances that needed special attention to satisfy similar or better performance than the legacy infrastructure. Each challenge has helped the Nutanix support team make the product better and better, all while providing support that was second to none.

Nutanix is being used by the library at the University of Waterloo. We have two clusters of four nodes each; one for our Virtual Server Infrastructure and one for our Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. Both clusters run an ESXi/vSphere environment. The simplicity of Nutanix's web-scale technology was the greatest draw. We no longer have to manage separate server, fabric and storage silos. Instead, everything is managed from one interface that is built on simplicity.

We are running all our on-premises servers and applications on Nutanix. Nutanix is used with VMware vSphere, we are looking to migrate to Nutanix Acropolis hypervisor. The main business goals and requirements are 1) high availability 2) operational simplicity and 3) scalability.

Nutanix works fine for us, I would highly recommend it if most of your workloads are virtualized.

The Nutanix Xtreme Computing Platform (XCP) has been deployed in my customer's environment as a Virtualization infrastructure for their Enterprise Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solution. Their VDI platform of choice is the Citrix XenDesktop software suite, combined with the Citrix NetScaler Gateway for remote access. Nutanix is being used by 100% of the customer's teleworking force. Nutanix was introduced to alleviate legacy virtualization hardware issues (resource contention, dated and failing components, etc.).

We use Nutanix for the hosting side of our business. As a marketing company, we also build websites for our clients and decided the best course of action would to be to host them in house. We are also slowly migrating away from VMWare and plan to utilize our Nutanix as a datastore once NFS is fully supported which is on the roadmap and will be available in the next couple of months (currently the date is 5/20/2016 of this writing).
