However, some users have reported limitations in the software's modern interface capabilities, like drag-and-drop file uploading or quick-look image viewing. In these cases, users have turned to Nuxeo support assistance for bulk uploading or opted for a maintenance contract. We purchased Nuxeo as the basis for our Content Service Platform to fill the Digital Asset Management Space and track the millions of digital assets we have as an organization. We use it for image, audio, and video assets for our production teams across the globe. It has helped us centralize management and enable archive and lifecycle management.
  • Low code
  • Strong, flexible data model
  • Easily configure custom business rules
  • Flexible UI
  • Bulk actions need work
  • The UI needs maturing
  • Spreadsheet editor needs improvement
I like to describe Nuxeo as getting you 90% of the way to wherever you want to go, but 100% of the way to nowhere. This 10% allows flexibility to add your own custom business rules and operations. This is different than a complete off-the-shelf solution that provides 100% of a solution but does not give you the flexibility that you need. If you want a platform that can adjust to your needs, use Nuxeo. If you are looking for a turnkey solution that will get you off the ground 100 % of the way out of the gate, other options may be better for you.

We worked with both Nuxeo Professional Services, as well as a Nuxeo Preferred integrator, iSoftStone. The Nuxeo team has excellent expertise and direction to set us up well for our implementation. iSoftStone allowed the direction provided by Nuxeo to stretch our budget even further.
This is something that we have struggled with a bit. We push the boundaries of Nuxeo in this area, both with the number of assets and the size of assets. We have a lot of large, long videos, and we are continually tuning performance in this area.
We were really looking for something that would be more flexible and customizable to meet the variety of business needs and use cases that we had in the Digital Asset Management space. Nuxeo offered the flexibility we were looking for.

We use Nuxeo for:
  • User management and as an identity provider to other software components
  • CMS - content management - binary files that are used by other software components
It's being used in 3 products in which I am involved. However, it is also used by other parts of the organization.
  • Upload, store and manage permissions for binary files
  • Provides automation for content management tasks
  • User and identity management
  • Public documentation - it has some + public forums, but we felt more is needed
  • Back-end management - the web UI is fancy, but it sometimes translates to some tough to understand implementations
  • Starting sequence of on-premise installations - Java gibberish in the logs; sifting is required to identify real issues from acceptable ones
  • No built-in monitoring and performance alerting
Although it has a fancy web UI, some community content going on, and active support, the back-end part of Nuxeo appears convoluted - I feel such is the case with all middleware components that provide a fancy UI over-complicated implementations & auto-generated code. Nuxeo is used when a company wants to solve several challenges at once - CMS use cases. [In my opinion] Nuxeo has a learning curve. It's a Java application, but its use by Java developers in a dynamic environment (lots of work, less time to learn and iterate) is really problematic.

  • Positive: Allows for solving multiple CMS use cases at once.
  • Negative: A very complex middleware application - tough to migrate functionality away onto other fit-for-purpose components or systems.
  • Positive: Allows for integration with other Enterprise-grade middleware systems.
Although we quickly accelerated with Nuxeo in solving our CMS needs, the fact that it had bugs (we reported them in a crude way, and they were fixed), it has a learning curve, and troubleshooting is time-consuming and tough to do, especially on a tight development timeline. Ease of use in some situations causes auto-generated code and convoluted implementations - writing JavaScript to automate certain tasks in Nuxeo, a Java CMS system. Migrating parts of the functionality onto other systems is possible but not trivial.
Although we've had performance issues with multiple aspects of Nuxeo's features, for the most part, we have managed to tweak it to fit the needs of our customers.
Nuxeo was chosen for its support and its track record of assisting similar organizations in solving complex CMS needs. We are currently evaluating KeyCloak as a substitute for user and identity management.

The decision was made after an architectural evaluation and based on the product's reputation, which included consultations and support sessions.
Involve a senior developer as well. Having just architects do a proof of concept showed how some situations are solved, but not how dev teams will adopt the product and will they solve issues with it.
Although this is a Java application, it was very convoluted for the Java developers to use - this includes Nuxeo Studio, but not limited to it.

When I came to work in the organization as a product advisor, they already chose Nuxeo as the main tool for working with content. My role was to adapt the content strategy, including all business processes, to this tool and launch continuous delivery of content to users through a dedicated website.
  • Super fast and usable search
  • You can compose your own workflow process with content
  • Fast content loading, performance is must for SEO
  • Great content analytics out of the box
  • Too hard to start, onboarding need to be improved
  • Some UI elements are not usable
If you need to organize the entire process of preparing and publishing content for your target audience from scratch, then Nuxeo is a very good choice. You can design key points of interaction between content preparation participants and users and then improve the processes by observing analytics. If you are just looking for an alternative to WordPress, then this may not be for you since the interaction of all participants is more difficult here.

I am using it as a digital asset management platform. Another use is document depository, saving a resource but doing the job more accurately. The user interface is too good and a breeze to use. It can easily be operated by almost any level and any department. Minimal to no training required. I’ll recommend it to anyone.
  • Ability to search
  • Amazing support
  • Regular updates
  • I felt like select all button is missed

It has amazing customization and configuration options and is well suited for any organization, any size. It enables any business to operate in a decent manner and enables you to create programs which can assist you and your team properly without over efforts with the training. Its UI is very friendly and can be accessed properly even by a starter.

It’s definitely a level up against its competitors. The UI and usability are a breeze. I have even seen starters working perfectly like a pro. The content management and other services are all good, and the support Nuxeo’s team provides is unmatchable. I highly recommend Nuxeo to anyone, any organization.
The performance is on par with any of its competitors. The UI usability is a treat to anyone, including the starters or the freshers. The response time is very less, which makes it a very special tool. Security and access bases control, I’d say, are its flagship features and very helpful.
The UI, the support, the overall features, and other things. This tool is picture-perfect.

We use Nuxeo in several capacities. The primary use of Nuxeo is as a Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform. Broadly, branding assets with version control, documents with both frequent and infrequent accesses and CDN for component assets for online properties.<br><br>The second use case is as a document repository. Any files we generate, store or reference are to be handled by Nuxeo.
  • Performant as a scaled asset repository.
  • Customizable with existing technology staff (Java).
  • Flexible integration (ReSTful APIs).
  • Low-code & No-Code customizations could go deeper.
  • Installation can be a bit dicey for new developers.
  • Core concepts could be better documented for self learning.
Leveraging Nuxeo for highly performant integrations where millions or billions of files/assets may be encountered is a prime use case for Nuxeo. Consider an insurance company generating contracts and policy documents, or a bank generating statements or a large print-house managing mailers.

Customizing the document shapes in Nuxeo allows for incredible flexibility in managing metadata to describe assets, granting agility for future-forward discovery of assets as new capabilities are added.

Flexible integration with a wide variety of systems using integration platforms like Apigee or Mulesoft for example, as well as more directly via ReSTful APIs and even out of the box tools like a Salesforce connector for example, make Nuxeo an easy choice for a medium to large enterprise.

  • Nuxeo has provided us with a central repository for all documents and reduced complexity and support/maintenance costs.
  • Using Nuxeo in a hosted SaaS model have provided stability and reliability allowing our staff to remain lean, saving 2-3 FTE engineers.
  • Nuxeo's performance at scale enables it to remain the go-to solution for us. Each new use case enhances the ROI we see as we can spread the value while supporting Nuxeo with a central team of engineers and developers.
Overall Nuxeo support has been solid. Response times are within agreed SLA, and their knowledge of their product enables quick resolution of issues when we have them. In a hosted model, like we have with Nuxeo, we have the benefit that Nuxeo doesn't have to figure out the underlying setup and configuration. So that helps.

I have found Nuxeo to be a strong partner with regards to architecting and designing solutions which leverage their product as a component.

However, for all the benefits, Nuxeo limits the number of technical contacts capable of opening tickets and escalating issues. Keep this in mind. While they have been flexible with our account, your mileage may vary.
End user experience is very good with Nuxeo. The UI/UX is solid.

I do think developer/engineer experience could be improved significantly. While the APIs are documented well, and the product works well once installed and configured … it's that very setup process which has posed the greatest challenge to our engineers.

Looking holistically at Nuxeo's end-to-end product experience, I remain confident we made the right choice. And would make the came choice again. Improvements to the setup and onboarding processes for the product would only enhance this opinion.
