Auth0 is being used as the authentication provider for the users of our products.
We are saved from worrying about implementation of the different aspects of this matter and we can focus on implementing our business logic.
  • Authenticate users
  • Manage users in different applications
  • Authorization by role
  • The pricing model is very attractive. The free plan enables up to 7,000 active users and unlimited logins.
  • The login domain is under Auth0 domain. Custom domain requires a paid subscription.
  • Custom domain cannot be configured with CLI.
Well suited:
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Complex products
  • Multi tenants
  • And even if not, by delegating the authentication to Auth0, you can focus more on your business logic instead of inventing the wheel again

We use it for one of the products in our healthcare analytics portfolio products. While our company has a home grown IAM system, we chose to test Auth0 for this new product and it worked out very well. The setup was pretty easy and the support is amazing once you subscribe.
  • Easy to set up
  • Can run call backs and additional logic while handling authentication
  • Very good documentation and support
  • Price gets significant with user volume
When you need faster Oauth2 setup without worrying about a lot of technical details, Auth0 [is] a good fit. It is also highly scalable. Our product's user volume is only few thousands but the system can handle much larger loads easily. One of the other core features is the easy setup for federated SSO. Most of our users comes through our partner organizations and need the federated SSO though their employers.

It's being used by our tech team to authenticate the members of our client's health plans. We love that we're able to set up multi-tenancy with ease that allows us to meet the unique needs of our clients. We have explored other platforms out in the market such as Okta and found that Auth0 is superior when it comes to customer support and experience.
  • Customer Support
  • Customer Engagement
  • Multi-tenancy
  • User experience
  • I'd love more reporting metrics around our users.
  • Storing phone numbers of our users.
Auth0 has been my top choice when it comes to an authentication provider for the past 4 years or so across different organizations due to it's simple to use and simple to set-up experience.

Auth0 supports our Authentication and Authorization processes, since most of our web applications are configured to use the oauth2 flow with Auth0. The user provisioning process is done by using the Authentication and Management APIs. RBAC and User Management are supported by the Management API and Rules/Hooks we create inside the Auth0 tenant.
  • RBAC is simple, straight forward and easy to manage
  • Integrations of Social Login are simple to configure and the Auth0 documentation shows step by step how to configure it
  • Rules/Hooks provide customization to the Auth0 flow, making it a great solution to define how we allow our users to login into our applications
  • Backup policy! As of today, Auth0 does not provide a centralized way of backing up the information and users in the tenants. From a B2B perspective, this could be a great tool, because it would simplify the backup and data recovery process for the Auth0 customer
  • Import users as a strategy that creates a new user is weird, from a Data Recovery perspective
  • No dashboards to monitor the status of logins, users and data flow between web application and Auth0. This coud be a great tool to customize by our needs, as a way to visualize data and create reports
Auth0 is great at RBAC, making it easy to create roles and permissions, and assign them to users. The Auth0 Pipeline and Actions are a great tool to configure and customize flows for users. Applications are easy to configure and have amazing documentation supporting the customers. One downside is still the backup policy and data recovery policy, which are not supported by Auth0 - it's the customer's responsibility to create a way of backing up data from Auth0, and how to deal with recreating all users.

We use Auth0 across the organization at our customers to let the security pros at Auth0 handle authentication, authorization and SSO. Apps use Auth0 as the identity provider of choice for driving value for customers. This ensures that we can focus on building apps and services on the business side of things and hand off proper security implementation to Auth0.
  • Easy SDK Docs
  • Multiple platform availability for different programming languages
  • Confusing for beginner
Best used in scenarios where apps are desired to be stood up quickly. High sprint velocity makes it desirable to move ahead with SAAS Security offerings like Auth0.

Okta is used as a SSO and MFA tool across our whole organization. It ensures compliance with cyber-security standards and addresses security in a very strong way that is easy to use and manage. It also ensures our company has all necessary logs at our hands without having to work with various vendors.
  • Single Sign On
  • Multi Factor Authentication
  • Ease of Use for End Users
  • Browser plug in can be annoying and constantly up
  • Cost for licensing is high
I would recommend Okta to any business- small or large. It is an easy to implement and manage tool that simplifies the experience of logging in to multiple applications with an extra layer of security with MFA. On the admin side, Okta is highly customizable and ensures you can deliver the exact user experience required for a company.

The Okta Identity Cloud is being used across my entire organization supporting in the security of all of the systems we use, client data preservation, employee data preservation, and overall security. The Okta Identity Cloud ensures only those with the correct credentials can access what they are allowed to and prevents those without access. Its ease of use and implementation across a large platform of services and applications make it stand out among similar services.
  • Identifies location when signing into systems
  • Ensures data privacy
  • At times, SSO verification takes several minutes when we need it done ASAP, but this is very rare.
The Okta Identity Cloud is perfect for secure access to systems that contain sensitive information.

Okta it's being used across the whole organization, before joining the company I never used okta, and I must say this is a great tool to manage the identity of the personnel in the most secure way. One of the things I like it's the way it resolves easily the implementation of MFA.
I have never run into issues using Okta
  • Implements MFA easily
  • Security
  • Customize user's profile settings
Okta is a great tool for a company at an enterprise level, small businesses might find okta not suitable for their needs.
Okta also offers a practical way to set our apps and organize them, I see that localization is also something the company can do, so it's recommended to large corporations. It has a very useful app.

We use Auth0 organization-wide for authentication on web & mobile applications as well as our API. This solves our need for a single sign-on solution that accepts both social logins as well as enterprise logins.
  • Single sign on
  • Enterprise logins
  • MFA
  • Bot detection
  • Social logins are not native causing compatibility issues (complying with FB, etc.).
Whenever you have a situation where you have a need for SSO (multiple applications) or would need to quickly enable features such as social login, MFA & enterprise login, Auth0 would be the best fit. If you have a single web product with a username/password login, you are most likely better off building your own.

We use Auth0 as a SSO solution for our organization's websites. We also use the email one-time passwords to protect public facing websites from non authorized users. We use Auth0 with a wide range of web platforms and languages. The solution works across a wide variety of situations, platforms, languages, and devices.
  • Auth0 integrates well with a wide variety of platforms.
  • Auth0 has a good implementation of JSON Web Tokens.
  • Auth0 has a simple to use admin interface.
  • Auth0 changes quite quickly and not all the documentation is kept up to date.
  • Auth0's javascript libraries don't support all features across all versions.
  • Better documentation for using the hosted login page would be helpful.
Auth0 is very well suited for situations where a JSON web token can be used for authorizing APIs, websites, and mobile devices. It's especially useful if the JWT validation can happen at a gateway layer. It's especially useful if you only need to verify the user's email address or mobile number as the passwordless login is easy to implement.

We use Auth0 as an Identityprovider for internal infrastructure servies as well as backend for our SaaS offer. It is therefore used by a wide arrange of services within our company to streamline the login process as much as possible.
  • Flexibility
  • Security
  • Ease of use
  • Documentation
  • AD Connector for Linux
  • Additional pricing options
Well suited if you want a all in one solution for your SSO in the cloud. Also one of the few cloud offers that have an option to include an on-premises Active Directory, which is essential in a business context.
It's not appropriate if you want to configure SSO for another company though. It's possible but not really supported.

We utilize Auth0 to set up SAML SSO connections with our customer's IDP of choice.
  • Compartmentalizing components of an SSO architecture.
  • Keeping track of user logic activity.
  • The ability to turn on SSO for certain applications with an on/off switch.
  • More detailed error messaging when SSO connections fail during setup
  • Quicker turnaround time for P0/Critical bugs that totally takedown Auth0 services.
  • A fallback plan, such as a redirect, for when an Auth0 outage occurs.
Auth0 is perfect for when you need to set up Enterprise level SSO connections with minimal effort.

The Okta Identity Cloud is used in our organization as a single sign on security application. This addresses the need for our company to feel safer when using their cloud based applications. It also allows for our company to adhere to best practices when it comes to our internal security. We also manage it for other clients.
  • SSO secoruty
  • Easily integrated into the environment
  • A lot more applications support it
  • Better integration so it can be used more
  • Different method other than saml
The Okta Identity Cloud is best suited for anyone working in a remote environment or uses web based applications. In this day and age where more and more people are working remotely, having a secure log in method is a must have in all scenarios. The use of any MFA solution is best practice

Auth0 is being used for authentication and authorization for the various web applications in our company. It is being widely adopted and slowly being rolled out company-wide. It was mainly adopted to address the roles and permissions segregation issues which [were] turning out to be very complex. Auth0 is a cleaner approach and helps to separate as well as bind these two things wherever necessary.
  • Can integrate Identity management easily into the development workflow
  • Scalability and [its] support for customizing the code
  • Flexibility and great support from the Auth0 team
  • It is on the PRICEY side when you need to access all the features
  • The documents could be improved and some additional videos would be helpful
Auth0 is ideal if you are looking for an [out-of-box] Authentication (Authentication as a service). This is an already developed stable framework and prevents you from having to reinvent the wheel. It also allows for a lot of flexibility along with the [plug-and-play] feature making it easily workable for both developers and non-developer folks to understand.

Auth0 is a vital and critical part of our system. Our entire authentication flow is done using Auth0, so our product heavily relies on Auth0. Auth0 addresses the issue of authentication, saving us the time and effort of building and maintaining a user-management service and integrating with the different social login and SAML login providers.
  • No-code user management and authentication solution
  • Social login provider integration
  • Built-in username-password user database
  • Occasional downtime and slowness
  • Easier access to database for export to a data warehouse
  • Login experience is hard to customize
Auth0 is really great if you're just starting out building a product. It really saves a lot of time and work. I've implemented a user-service in a million places and it's always the same--the register-login-confirm-email-forgot-password flow. Using Auth0 saves you all that, and you can get up and running in no time, getting a lot of advanced features very quickly and easily.

Auth0 wouldn't really suit you if you already have a working system with your own user database. It might be less appropriate for privacy-intensive applications, as the user data isn't really data you'd like to share or have outside of your own infrastructure.

Auth0 is being used by one department for consumer authentication and authorization in the IoT service. Consumers can use the mobile apps to control or monitor their appliances. And our services have integration with Auth0. It is easy to set up, and we use customized login UI so it provides a consistent look and feel across different apps. It works very well so far.
  • Auth0 has a clear admin console, which makes admin tasks smooth.
  • Auth0 has different extensions that we can use for customization for particular purposes, e.g. log streaming.
  • Auth0 provides anomaly detection which has prevented attacks for us in production.
  • I would like to see raw logs from admin console, but unfortunately this is not possible now.
  • Auth0 support custom login UI, but it's not very flexible to use.
  • Deploying config changes via automation is not so easy.
I think Auth0 has very good capability and it can be used in most scenarios that require identity management. For example, business to business, business to consumer, etc.

Corporations can also use it for internal purposes like single sign on for employees. But I guess most corporations may already have the complete office solutions like Microsoft/Google, so using another vendor just for SSO may not be the best option.

Okta Single Sign-On was integrated with a new application that was custom developed for the graphics department at a major broadcaster's enterprise. Okta was integrated as the top layer of security to eliminate credential reauthentication as the new system was being accessed by over 200 people with various levels of authority and access boundaries. It saved time with the helpdesk requests and provided easy and fast access to multiple areas of the system for the authorized personnel.
  • Reporting features for Okta have significant advantages over its competitors with detailed reporting for each user and access log.
  • Ability to integrate multiple identity providers.
  • Directory Integration: Okta's ability to configure the master/universal directory that can be set and switched at will is great as it doesnt require separate system updates.
  • Hardware Integration with devices that are on premises requires separate hardware upgrade that can be quite expensive depending on the number of devices required.
  • Price : Okta is great for large enterprises, but small to medium sized companies wouldnt be able to afford the high cost.
  • Company doesnt provide different levels of services that can be added or deleted depending on the needs of the organization.
Okta is excellent for large enterprises that require an added level of security of all their system accesses. Okta's single sign-on improves productivity for the company as it eliminates the need for constant helpdesk password resets. Okta is particularly well suited to organizations that have authorization hierarchy and require various levels of authorizations and access for its users. Okta isn't really for medium to small businesses with a small number of users as the initial integration as well as the monthly recurring costs can add up pretty fast.

Auth0 was used in our online product to provide user authentication service to public users.
  • Overall we had very good experience with Auth0. It supports industry standard language or technology for integration. Very good performance.
  • It's nice to work with Auth0's APIs and they are flexible.
  • The management and configuration dashboard is useful and easy to deal with.
  • It didn't happen frequently but there were service outages in the past several years.
  • The customer support options and quality need to be improved.
Auth0 is mainly a solution for authentication and authorization. And it does what it promises in that aspect, but I also find it very helpful when it comes to customer support because I can see a lot of crucial information about user activity. So we have allowed our customer services team members to access auth0 backend log files for troubleshooting user login issues, etc. And the backend administration site is fairly easy to understand. Metadata along with Rules and Hooks allow for flexibility for token generation . Multiple ways to authenticate.

Auth0 is being used directly in our product to for fully managed Authentication, Authorization, and Identity Management. These are major areas of a software business which must be done right in order to ensure security of users and their data, as well as our product as a whole. Auth0 makes solving these important issues a breeze, mitigating complexity and time spent on these issues.
  • Intuitive dashboard which allows management of applications, users, and auth-flows.
  • Great documentation.
  • Great developer community which the Auth0 team is actively engaged in.
  • Top of the line customer support.
  • Price point for ALL features can get a bit pricey. But they have a startup plan which helps big time. Developer plans start at $23/mo and do not include all features.
  • Actions, rules, hooks, and email customization are great features, but the UI is a bit tough sometimes, not very responsive to screen size and code editors are cut off in a difficult place to maneuver.
Auth0 solved just about every issue we were facing when it came to Authentication and Identity management. I was spending an embarrassing amount of time trying to "roll-my-own auth." I found more and more that I was spending a lot of time in the Auth0 docs trying to learn best practices and realized "hey, why am I not just using this product." If you are trying to solve problems in this area of your business, Auth0 is the best choice that I could find.

We used Auth0 for our Collaborative VR platform where applications without user login and web portals with user login access a central server. This provides multiuser capability to our VR solutions. We are currently using it in a few applications with a few users but this will rapidly expand.
  • Maturity of the platform.
  • Documentation.
  • Available SDK's and libraries.
  • Sample code.
  • API Explorer.
  • A standard mechanism to back up all tenant data would be great.
I think Auth0 is well suited to most scenarios where authorisation and authentication is required. It seems to scale well, both in volume as well as in functionality. Maybe for the most simple use cases it is a bit too much, but generally speaking it should be great to use.

Auth0 is used at StockX for user authentication, as well as application security to meet the OAuth 2.0 standard. We replaced our legacy login system for our API users with Auth0 to integrate new applications. Auth0 has enforces two-factor authentication, something our legacy system did not have.

We are looking to expand our use around RBAC.
  • Easy to set up and meets the RFC standards.
  • Marketplace has many integrations.
  • Lack of email format validations.
  • Unit testing rules is difficult - they are improving it with actions but it's currently still in beta.
  • Poor automated localization support - all emails from Auth0 must be crafted manually using large IF statement blocks to translate emails.
Auth0 is far from perfect and it is not cheap. However I believe it is the best solution in existence for developers looking to start a project without having to worry about the security details of their signup/login flow. They are developer oriented and provide many resources and integrations.
