OneStream Review
- Consolidation
- Workflows
- Good structure for activities done by the end users
- Easy to pick up simple task of navigating around
- The application seems a bit more technical for business users
- Great structure within the system that's done by using the workflows.
Statutory, Management and Regulatory reporting
For Management reporting actual and budget data is available in the system and reports were designed to have a management view.
For Regulatory reporting on the BA100 and BA120, which uses financial data, the regulatory reports had to correspond to the statutory reports. By using OneStream, one source of data is used for reporting, with no discrepancies between for example profit, total assets and total liabilities on the different reports.
- Roll up of data to a Consolidation level as per structures
- Linking with Excel and the use of GetCell formulas to create your own reports
- Easier drill down functionality, one click to take you to the underlying detail.
- Consolidation within OneStream seems to be a difficult process.

OneStream made planning and reporting efficient
- Consolidation of 8 international subsidiaries, based on SAP R/3 local data.
- Monthly detailed financial forecast based S&OP plan data and other transactional data extracted from SAP BW, the forecast calculations include profit and loss details on entity level with IC revenue, raw material cost updates and balance sheet calculations with specific details for working capital and other inputs.
Use case of the forecast is to track results versus target and previous forecast.
- Reporting set was build for management reviews, which can be quickly generated by changing variables.
- Workflows to have step by step processes
- Import data from different sources with validation of metadata and extensive transformation rules
- Consistently calculate all variables
- Freedom to define cost drivers with member formulas
- Deploying of market place solutions is cumbersome and often requires external support.
- Calculation of a planning scenario can take quite some time depending on the data structure.
- Version upgrades require preparation and resources.
Reporting can be very flexible when metadata naming convention is consistent.
Metadata organization is not straightforward, new items are always added at the bottom and can't be sorted.
Review of OneStream
- Consolidation engine is powerful, we have around 500 entities translating from multiple source currencies into a common currency at good speed.
- We leverage the Flash and Quarterly forecast providing users with pre seeded data so they only need to make tweaks rather then filling in a lot of manual forms.
- We use Transaction matching for processing a lot of intercompany matching invoices from the ERP systems which helps end users a lot. Data is fed in from source ERPS and TXM generates the auto matches based on criteria provided.
- We have a custom Tax module which we use to pull in tax entries from the consolidation side and this gives the Tax teams starting position for their tax calculations and enables them to also do a quarterly forecast estimate.
- OneStream has great dashboarding capabilities for a whole range of use cases from charts and graphs, to drill-back data to running even steps that users can execute without having access to the source code/rules in the background!
- Journal copy feature would be good to have
- The Excel Add in is limited to only one application. Would be good to have the ability to pull from say Dev and Prod so side by side comparisons could be done
- Better interface to handle metadata changes
OneStream
- Consolidation of multiple entities
- Connecting to source ERP systems for current data
- Flexibility in reporting using cube views
- Flexibilty in ad-hoc reporting using excel based quick views
- This is such a complex program, it would be nice to have more how-to videos to help users get up to speed.
- It seems like the support websites change quite often and are not very easy to follow. When we are dealing with complex issues, it would be nice to have a more simple path to support.
- It would be nice to have a single website launch point for support, knowledge, Champions, Learning, etc. If that could launch from within the application using already provided credentials, that would be even better.
This program is very complex, so it may not be right for small simple companies, but with the proper setup partners and training this program can make huge improvements to current processes for most companies.
OneStream Review
- Consolidation of Group Results across 600 Entities
- Flexibility of Reporting through Dashboard Reporting Suite and Excel Interface
- Ability to create Bespoke Models for specific requirements. (Ifrs15/16/BC/DC/Payroll, Covenance Reporting, etc.)
- Singular Cube for One source of the Truth
- Customisable Maintenance Platform to facilitate high growth strategy
- Automated Calculation/Aggregation in Budgeting Applications
- Maintenance of Solutions across Production and Development Environments
- More Flexibility in the way workflows are implemented in Models
Where users require the flexibility of both custom reporting through Excel and structured reporting packs built in System where a singular source of the truth is a requirement.
As a tool for consolidating Global Budgeting and Planning Requirements and facilitating a fully fledged Income Statement to Cashflow Forecast with Intercompany activity.
It is probably less appropriate as a standard transactional Operational Forecasting tool but through Machine Learning functions these capabilities can easily be covered.
OneStream Review
- Data Integration
- Consolidation
- Planning
- Reporting
- Security is flexible, but can be confusing for end users
- Documentation around internal business rule methods
- Standards on 3rd party libraries
- Ability to integrate visual studio with OneStream Cloud for developers
OneStream is not well suited for transactional data. this data can be reported on with bi blend, but OneStream is not a transactional system and trying to use it in this type of use case is not appropriate
The ever growing attraction and love for OneStream
- Consolidation
- Planning
- Eliminations
- Allocations
- Better enablement of OneStream excel addin. Every time when we have to fetch data from two different application, we have to log off from one and login to the other. This is very irritating for a developer who do unit testing.
- More free access to the learning content
- Better pricing for certification exams
OneStream true enterprise wide performance management
The business need we address with OneStream is to create a full stack of performance management reports where reported numbers align with the financial management reporting structure and various angles can be created in a consistent manner and additional dimensions can be added to the reported data for the right business insights.
The scope of our use case is full management performance reporting, integrated with our financial planning as well as our operational business planning and supply chain processes.
- Share reporting dimension hierarchies across reporting processes
- extend dimensions as needed to the requirements of individual processes
- provide prebuilt, downloadable solutions allowing for quick time to market of reporting solutions
- extend reporting beyond traditional financial reporting processes to create in depth business insights
- Provide some more prebuilt dashboards that serve as reference examples for specific topics, to allow users to gain an idea of all that is possible

OneStream Empowering Financial Excellence
So far, OneStream has improved are close process timeline, increased reporting visibility, and is very user friendly.
- As a global company, we have multiple source systems that are used for financials. OneStream allows us to bring in the financial data from source to a consolidated view for reporting.
- Ability to blend financial data with operational data.
- Reporting and analysis. Ability to create a wide range of reports. From standard cube views to intricate dashboards to extensible documents that works with Microsoft Office.
- The only issues we've experienced are directly with the business end and not with OneStream's capabilities.
- I would like more advanced learning possibilities.
OneStream is a winner EPM platform!
- Flexibility
- Consolidation
- Documentation of all the abilities
OneStream - One Stop shop for Finance Solutions
- Some Standard Reports are too good, which can be easily customized and fulfills the Audit needs.
- Integration with Excel and Spread sheet component is the best feature, where in you can create dashboards in Excel as well. for Excel lovers it's nice.
- Consolidation of the data is it's great strength, then comes the XF extensibility.
- Metadata Upload functionality for one time is nice but if we need to modify and re-upload the same month on month, it's very difficult and needs definitely improvement.
- Navigation between the tabs is not available which should be there, if a user wants to compare the data for 2 dashboards, it's not possible
- Drill down feature is nice, but of no use, since to get the source data, we need to click multiple clicks and that too complete information at any point of time cannot be downloaded in an excel or a csv.
- Work Flow Rename Hierarchy is not available , which can lead in SOX compliance issues.
- While uploading the files in File Explorer, Multi upload files are not possible via User Interface, so practically to use that feature is a big challenge.
- Financial Consolidation
- Calculations using business rules
- Workflow
- Reporting and disclosures
- Data Interfaces
- Audit trail
- More/better excel functionalities
- Better helpdesk support
- Visualisation (e.g. graphs, charts)

OneStream is the next-gen consolidation tool
- Consolidate
- Flexibility
- User interface
- Some documentation is out of date
For smaller companies, I think OneStream is probably a bit overkill and overwhelming. Also dashboards are nice, but not as beautiful as PowerBI.
CPM of the future is here today!
- Consolidates complex entity hierarchies
- Calculates forecasts with many drivers
- Some improvements on documentation would be helpful.
- The ability to use keyboard shortcuts is severely lacking.
