We leverage Optimizely Web Experimentation across dozens of clients -- ranging from direct-to-consumer subscription services to B2B SAAS. Our clients choose to work with us because we can push experimentation platforms to the limit -- from personalization to in-product experiences to offline metric tracking. Optimizely consistently allows us to build high-fidelity customer experiences more rapidly than any other platform. They then couple that development ease with nuanced performance tracking clients can trust. When we put it all together, this is what allows us to build strong, engaged cultures of experimentation with our clients.
  • Speed to launch across all test complexity levels.
  • Clear, Robust reporting that builds trust.
  • Continue ability to reduce site flicker.
The only time we don't recommend is if a site is too low traffic for paying for Optimizely to ever be cost-effective, but the company wants to toe dip into experimentation.

We use web experimentation on both our web applications; uti.edu and our Paid Media Landing Page environment to increase conversion rates and to understand our audiences deeper. Optimizely Web Experimentation structures our thought process on how to think about new ideas and how to implement them, while giving us a safe way to actually find which ideas are successful and which ones aren't. At the end of the day, all experimentation is a value add for our business because even if a test fails, that failure can influence further decisions and give us insight into who and what our audiences like.

We currently split our CRO efforts into channel groups that are self managed, and look for problems and opportunities in the funnel and experience and then formulate hypotheses and prioritize based on an ICE method. Ideas are converted into project templates and worked through a pipeline all the way through to experiment creation. Once an experiment concludes we implement winners and iterate. Weekly, all of our channel members come together to discuss experimentation progress and successes, at which point successful ideas are shared across channel. The process then repeats itself.
  • Performance
  • A/B Testing
  • Reporting
  • Ease of Use
  • Improving the dashboard
  • Making organization and bulk updates a possibility
  • No current capability for bulk updates - which makes managing a lot of experiments tedious
Web experimentation is suitable any time a business wants to make a change on the website. Any neutral or positive result should give the business further confidence that an idea is appropriate and successful.

Web experimentation is not suitable for sites where traffic is low - because statistical significance won't be reached.

Our company is currently using Optimizely Web Experimentation as a means to replace Google Optimize, performing A/B Testing, and creating a platform for all Marketers to contribute new ideas across our Website. We look towards the specific targeting of events, audiences, and measuring our KPIs with the integration of GA4 and in the future, HubSpot.
  • Event tracking
  • Measuring and identifying audiences
  • Visual editor to create and make tests
  • Management of different projects/sites
  • Integration with GA4 (bug identified with our CSM)
  • Integration with HubSpot
  • Shared experimentation across different projects
As a means to replacing Google Optimize, the AB testing tool has various tools to address targeted pages, audience groups, event tracking. These are all important to identifying the User journey, and even more so, the measurement of our statistics and goals - all within the contained experiment.

We use it to test different changes we to our webpages we think will help users understand our product and navigate to the check out process and ultimately make a purchase. We have three brands (across three websites) that we often change the order of information blocks, test new headlines or wording, or swap images to see if they will contribute to a higher conversion rate.
  • allowing users to quickly change the order of content blocks on existing site
  • organize current tests in a list for the team to view
  • Defining pages that are frequently tested for faster work flow
  • affecting the cms when the code is slightly more complicated on the back end
  • the login/verification process every time is a little annoying
  • would like to track the data visually all together in a snapshot of all experiments done on one page over time
If you have a website that is designed well with a cms in place and there is a structured marketing team, Optimizely Web Experimentation is a good tool to use. It offers a place for non engineers to make quick changes that can be captured in one place. The data that is collected in one place is easy for marketing teams to review and make decisions moving forward. It is less appropriate if your current website is not built in a clean manner because the tool is interacting with the code. It gets messy and will require engineer assistance to recode options to test if your back end isn't optimized.

A/B testing web optimizations to increase conversions on the site.
  • Provides shareable links of reports for broader visibility
  • Customizable metrics to report on
  • Ability to simulate the preview on different devices
  • Statistical significance estimate in the report seems to fluctuate often, with no context or update on what changed and why
Optimizely Web Experimentation is great for testing simple front-end changes (specific images, layouts, copy).

The tool is great for when you have variants of products and can use the redirect tool to create the variant. The tool itself when it comes to analysis, the metrics are good, however getting the significance of the tests are very hard to get. I sometimes use other tools with the A/B testing evaluation data tools to analyse my results.
  • Redirects
  • Variant testing
  • Navigation testing
  • Visual editing tool
  • Analysis of metrics
This platform works really well if have the ability within your CMS to create redirects for your variants pages to build, this makes A/B tests east to make

I use Optimizely Web Experimentation and personalisation in the organisation to run A/B tests, multi-armed bandits, personalisation tests to segment users and target specific groups of users. I use this to improve conversion rates across the business in multiple areas. By using web experimentation, I and the wider team understand user behaviours and get an understanding of how people operate and interact with the website.
  • Running A/B tests without prior coding or HTML knowledge
  • Good user interface
  • User experience is easy to understand
  • Easy to decipher results
  • When it comes to test results, give an overview of wins / losses for multiple tests and pages
  • Recommendations for areas of improvement when results have not been conclusive
I love Optimizely Web Experimentation, although it can sometimes be a little clunky when previewing built tests and QA'ing tests. They could also improve on their redirects to minimise flicker.

We use it more often for AB testing, and based on the metrics and the audience, we decide the winner and implement the variation when needed. Splitting traffic for each experiment also helps us to manage bad user's experience if the variation is not performing accordingly. We make usage of the targeting feature to point internal users to staging environments prior to launch an experiment to prod.
  • A/B testing
  • Experiment editor
  • We should explore more integrations
  • As a dev, at first, I had some difficult to understand the way metrics works and how they are configured
  • I am not sure how it is not, but we had some issues with the documentation for optimizelyOptOut implementation in the past
We have multiple website pages and we spend a bunch of money advertise them. Optimizely helps us to define, based on metrics and A/B testing, which pages we should improve UX to guide users to try our product, maximizing our investment.

At our company, we use Optimizely Web Experimentation extensively to optimize our website and enhance our customer's experience. The product allows us to conduct A/B tests and make data-driven decisions about design and functionality changes. One of the significant business problems that Optimizely addresses is the need to continuously improve our website's performance and conversions without disrupting the user experience. Our marketing team loves the autonomy that Optimizely provides, allowing them to create and run experiments without the need for developer resources. We also use Optimizely to personalize our website's content based on visitor behavior and improve our overall customer engagement. The scope of our use case includes testing various website elements such as headlines, call-to-action buttons, and form designs, among others. With Optimizely, we can quickly iterate on new ideas and track the impact of these changes on our conversion rates, leading to better business outcomes.
  • Ease of use
  • Analytics/ reporting
  • Online resources/ help center documentation
  • Performance
  • Local development tooling
  • Customer support
Optimizely Web Experimentation is well-suited for scenarios where data-driven decisions are required to optimize website performance and conversions. For instance, A/B testing various website elements such as headlines, call-to-action buttons, and form designs, among others, can provide valuable insights into what resonates best with our audience. Personalizing website content based on visitor behavior, such as geographic location or past interactions, is another scenario where Optimizely shines. On the other hand, Optimizely may not be as appropriate for websites with low traffic volumes, as it may take longer to gather enough data to make confident decisions. Additionally, it may not be suitable for testing complex website functionalities that require extensive development work, such as a complete website redesign or adding new features. In such cases, other tools or approaches may be more appropriate, such as usability testing or user research to understand user needs and preferences.

All new feature development is released as a test within the optimizely platform to validate and measure ROI. The stats engine allows a variety of business users to run tests without needing analytics support to discover stat sig results.
  • Sever side integration is robust
  • Stats engine gives easy steer during test
  • Session level metrics not available
  • Integrating third party data sources challenging
Opening the testing program to large portion of the business as the more technical/specialised steps of experimentation are built in to the tool, allow a wider testing roadmap.

We leverage Optimizely across all our Product Management and Marketing teams. We use it for a range of tasks. The types of tests we run include homepage/landing page optimization, as well as improvements to the user experience further down the 'funnel' (including things like our checkout flow). We typically run A/B tests with it (where we have a variant version of a page compete against our original/control version), although we do occasionally run more sophisticated multivariate tests.
  • The user interface is relatively straightforward, making adopting across the company easier.
  • Customer Support is very responsive.
  • Optimizely X Web integrates with digital analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) relatively smoothly.
  • Integration with Web Analytics is relatively smooth, although they recently had to change how to connect to Google Analytics 4.
  • Events can be hard to configure, depending on what kinds of tests you're running.
  • It's not the best solution when you're dealing with users who log in and out of a platform frequently, especially across devices. Sometimes the user IDs get confused and you end up with people seeing a control AND variant version (across different experiences).
It's arguably the optimization best tool on the market, but it is also probably the most expensive! If you're a young company/startup, you might want to consider other tools first before 'graduating' to a tool like Optimizely. Conversely, if you're a well-established company and you have the budget, then this is the tool for you.

We use Optimizely for A/B tests and for any urgent fixes that are required on the site when we don't want to wait for our normal CMS content push which is usually overnight. We can easily make front-end changes with Optimizely that update within minutes so if there is an incorrect image, spelling error, etc. we can hide it. We also use Optimizely to push changes at 100% until we are able to build them into our website, for example, keeping a test winner turned on while we wait for dev resources.
  • Quickly update your website
  • Fairly easy to use
  • Setting up custom metrics can be confusing
  • Only one way to track statistical significance of a test through the platform
It's well suited for A/B testing, pushing experiment winners to 100%, and last-minute adjustments on the website when your CMS isn't able to make changes ASAP

We use Optimizely Web Experimentation for A/B testing on a variety of websites across our Enterprise. It allows us to quickly and easily set up tests without the assistance from engineering and development teams. Items that we’ve tested include different copy for CTA buttons, page placement, images, and colors. Optimizely Web Experimentation allows us to easily set up the test, run it, and see the results to drive better decisions for digital content.
  • A/B Testing
  • Automated Testing
  • Clear Results/Reporting
  • Integration with certain platforms (e.g. Angular and/or Magnolia)
We've used Optimizely Web Experimentation for A/B and multivariant testing of our websites and it works very well for this type of testing. It's easy for a non-technical person to use to set up tests, monitor results, and access reporting in order to make decisions. We did have some challenges with more advanced tests on certain platforms/code base (angular and/or Magnolia) but for simple sites it worked very well.

I use Optimizely for all of our AB tests. This helps us validate new features and minor styling changes and gives us insight into our roadmap. It even allows us to make changes to the site without requiring developer support. We make sure everything is AB tested before launching, and Optimizely is a key part of making that happen.
  • AB Testing.
  • Data Analysis.
  • Web Editor.
  • User Interface.
  • Multi-project management.
  • Dynamic Website Set-up.
Optimizely is well suited for on-site AB testing and experimentation. If you want to see how a change will impact your metrics, Optimizely can make that happen. It is not useful for feature flagging or product rollout and can be a bit tricky when trying to AB test a net new feature.

We use Optimizely Web Experimentation to A/B test a number of marketing items, namely landing pages. It shows us what content, strategies, calls-to-action, button colors, etc. perform the best against one another, and tt helps us to narrow in on a creative concept and which to put into market.
  • Conversion Rate Optimization- knowing what garners clicks helps us tailor content to get the most clicks

Optimizely is the key tool we utilise for our onsite optimisation and personalisation programs. It is used across multiple divisions of our company. We utilise it to allow us to quickly test new concepts or hypothesis online. It has enabled us with a much faster speed to market and minimises the risk by making improvements onsite.
  • Integrates well with our digital marketing stack
  • Easy to use
  • Provides detailed reporting out of the box
  • It is expensive in comparison to some of its competitors
  • Full stack component can be hard to get up and running
Optimizely is a very powerful tool for onsite A/B and multivariate testing. It also provides very good audience identification and selection to allow running of multiple tests concurrently. In addition it has good personalisation capabilities which has allowed us to start proving the concept and value of of onsite personalisation quickly and easily.

Optimizely is the platform of choice for product rollout and product development. We work closely with the sales department to improve the digital experience for prospective clients. With analytics and digital UX tools, we identify potential UX issues or missed opportunities, hypothesize a solution, and then build the proposed solution in Optimizely. We use Optimizely to build and present experiments, and then decide whether to push to production through statistical review.
  • General business users can build experiments without coding.
  • Use of API.
  • It is important to remember that complex features and product rollouts require considerable effort.
  • Large scale experimentation management. Being able to look at the project at a high level of detail is a convenient methodology.
  • A snippet from Optimizely increases the loading time of a page.
It's great if you want to test something quickly with a third-party script on your page. Quick visual fixes are also great when deployments are not possible. However, it's not great when you want to measure site performance.

There are two major use-cases.

One is for A/B tests and to see which version performs better versus another. This requires setup on the engineering side and we use multiple techniques to implement our A/B tests.

Two, for hotfixes. Sometimes we can’t deploy a fix immediately and it may be a Friday or a weekend and Optimizely can be used to put up a quick fix and allows us time to deploy at a later time.
  • Very easy to make changes visually in their editor
  • Allows us to make CSS/JS changes pretty quickly
  • Integration with other services to track user behavior and give us stats to make determination of the best path forward.
  • UI could use some improvements
  • Sometimes I just can’t load the site or see it to make changes on the fly, forces to use CSS/JS
  • Sometimes it’s very hard to track what experiments are running in a browser. More tools or extensions would be great.
I think it’s a wonderful software with a lot of potential for A/B testing. It provides a lot of value and allows businesses to make smart decisions. However it can also be used as a crutch at times by marketing folks to deploy changes without proper process. It is also very dangerous in the hands of someone who isn’t technically aware of what they are doing. It can also be very dangerous if someone malicious gets access and is able to inject bad JS, no checks to see if the code is malicious or suspicious, GTM does that.

What we as a team liked about Optimizely Web Experimentation is its fluidity in implementation. With the very simple GUI, even a new joiner can safely manage campaign implementations. We were able to insert banners and were able to change the page's look and feel seamlessly, without any impact on page load time.
  • Ease of use
  • Ease of implementation
  • Asynchronous object load
  • Better control on target Control split
  • Use of 2 level key implementation on Organization ID and User ID
Optimizely Web Experimentation is a perfect tool for :
A/B testing: Optimizely is a popular tool for A/B testing, which involves testing two versions of a webpage or app against each other to see which version performs better. Optimizely can help you set up and run A/B tests quickly and easily, making it a good choice for businesses looking to optimize their conversion rates.
User experience testing: Optimizely can be used to test different variations of a webpage or app to see which version provides the best user experience. For example, you might test different color schemes, fonts, or layout options to see which one is most appealing to users.
Conversion rate optimization: Optimizely can help businesses optimize their conversion rates by testing different versions of landing pages, forms, and other key conversion elements. By using data and analytics to identify areas where users are dropping off or losing interest, businesses can make targeted changes that improve their overall conversion rate.
Personalization: Optimizely can be used to create personalized experiences for users based on their behavior, preferences, and other data. For example, you might use Optimizely to create personalized product recommendations or to display different content based on a user's location or browsing history.
Mobile app testing: Optimizely can also be used to test and optimize mobile apps. This might involve testing different app layouts, features, or user flows to see which version provides the best user experience and highest engagement.

Optimizely is used to gain insights on how new user experiences will perform when launched. The platform is used to answer our big questions; we experiment using split and multivariate tests regarding content copy, structure and more. Additionally we use the extension feature to build out new elements that we can then test before advising the development team to invest time, energy and money into rolling it out on site.
  • The audience feature is easy to use and very beneficial in previewing the experiment as users would see it before launching the experiment
  • Targeting individual pages or a group of saved pages is easy to do
  • Metric tracking is highly customizable and easy to visualize
  • Allow for editable extension fields to be implemented in the extension's CSS
  • Moving extensions or experiments across projects should be simpler
  • Allow for quick switching between setting up metrics in the experiment and event implementation set up
Optimizely is well-suited for testing simple changes across your site and tracking user's take rate on specific elements. Additionally, I would recommend using Optimizely if you are interested in experimenting with new elements on your page that require building a not-too-complex product. I would not use Web Experimentation if you are interested in testing an element that requires the integration of an outside platform, API, etc.

We've been using Optimizely for the last 2-3 years as part of our overall experimentation setup, and we're running around 50 experiments / year using it
  • Ability to set up and update / conclude experiments without any engineering support
  • Managing experiments and controlled rollouts by easily assigning feature flags and setting the percentage of traffic / users to be assigned to each variation
  • Integrating with the rest of our tech stack so new experiments set up in Optimizely are immediately pushed to our CMS and data analytics tools
  • Forcing users to select a success metric for each new experiment before being able to set it live is redundant as we don't rely on Optimizely to analyze the experiment results
  • The pricing for the product is not ideal for our company, as we pay for a large set of features that we don't use (like experiment analytics), but we don't have the option to only pay for the features we need
Optimizely is great for running experiments and for having a relatively self-serve approach to setting up new experiments, but it doesn't cover all feature-flag related use cases that our team has so it might not be best suited for that for some teams at least
