Oracle Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a core suite of Oracle Cloud software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications. Oracle Expense Management and Oracle Risk Management are part of this solution. Other apps include Financials, Revenue Management, Accounting Hub, PPM, and Procurement. The single cloud platform offers built-in industry standards and modern best practices.

ERP software is the backbone of many organizations and Oracle aims to offer a modern, connected approach combined with the ease and flexibility of the cloud. Oracle Cloud ERP solutions deliver the functionality, analytics, security, mobile capabilities, and social collaboration tools needed to run a business and optimize business processes.

A cloud ERP system can be implemented more rapidly and at lower costs than similarly-featured on-premises ERP solutions running on internal corporate data centers. Any employee can access cloud services and data in real time to stay on top of critical business functions, such as financial planning and analysis, financial reporting compliance and other financial services, as well as supply chain management and project management.

We expected our partner to do a vanilla implementation with minimal customization as possible. But it turned out that the partner was not well aware of the extent of out of the box functionality that would meet our requirements. Even though they knew this they went ahead with the sloppy implementation. In some modules we were left to re-implement the module with another partner since we could not derive benefits from the previous implementation. I would suggest any Client to not rush with these kind of major implementations but to wait and act understanding the cloud space before diving in.

1) The proper partner is key.
2) Ensure your implementation team is well trained first. These are your champions, do not let them go out and train or talk about the software until they know it like the back of their hand.
3) Ensure you have strong functional and technical team members - these folks will be pushed to the limit after go-live.
4) Training..Training...Training... Ensure you train your field well and frequently.

A key part of our ability to survive the bumpy road post implementation was the establishment of direct support lines. We setup a number of web conference lines with our implementation champions to allow the field direct access to the team throughout the day. This alleviated a lot of issues as well as allow us to make adjustments where needed real time.

Clean up the data from your old systems before you load it into Oracle cloud.
Establish ground rules around master data, so that duplicate records will not be created.
Involve and engage the business users from the start of the project.

Try to use the system as true to generic form as possible and cut over quickly. Parallel implementation is not recommended. If the numbers are accurate and materially similar to prior period - cut over. A small accounting adjustment is much better than millions in project overruns or dual system maintenance.

Although we had some hiccups during the implementation, overall I believe it was a success. Some lessons learned, maybe don't migrate open po's or contracts to the new system, start fresh. Other things, be sure everyone understands their role in the application and how to support it. We did spend some time going back and forth because we weren't sure who was responsible for the action. Otherwise, I would say we were successful and to date we are still working through some issues; but, the system is working beautifully.
