Oracle Database 12c is head and shoulders above SQL Server for what we need it to do, and the performance is much better. Oracle Database has been in place at our company for a while, and it was really a no brainer going to Oracle Database version 12c instead of another software platform.

We also have Microsoft SQL Server, not by choice though. Some COTS software vendors only provide us with the options of hosting metadata on SQL Server. The repositories are usually very small comparing to the Oracle Database we have with real user data.

Oracle database is the top one. As we have been using Oracle databases, we upgraded Oracle Database 11g to Oracle Database 12c R2.

Oracle is serving a different segment with respect to those above. Till now, we have stuck with Oracle and continued to support our internal customers. Other DBs are serving a few targeted applications by a few application teams.

While I was not available for the original selection, the reason I have fought to keep it in place and not change is mainly due to performance and security. The company has sought other options, however, I continue to maintain that this is the best course of action in our instance due to the customers we serve and the need for a stable and reliable platform not only for on-prem but the cloud as well.

Oracle Database is capable of managing huge amounts of information and combining it in fast ways. As a bank, we need something that is powerful and fast. We develop a lot of applications that use Oracle as our database, and we need to make sure our investment is secure so that we can continue growing.

We are mostly using Oracle, but in some applications, we do have Microsoft SQL Server. The RAC feature makes it high availability compared to SQL server with active/passive mode. Memory management is much better in Oracle and it's easy to scale up and down. Oracle is much better designed than any other database.

I selected Oracle Database 12c as our company makes heavy use of the product. It is an integral part of our product. Oracle Analytics Cloud is not being used in this company, but I have used it in the past company I worked in. Just like the Analytics Cloud, Oracle Database 12c is highly available.
