  • Although the issue of the annual support of the Oracle solution is significant because it is 22% of the total licenses that have been acquired over the years and taking into account that annually increases from 3% to 4% depending on the channel , it's worth it for the stability and security that the information is correctly protected with a robust solution with extensive support and commitment to developing improvements by the manufacturer. Practically it constitutes the main element in the provision of our services and we can not put in risk our prestige nor the legal security of the protected information.

  • We have always used Oracle Databases with our ERP system. From listening to institutions with other databases it sounds like we have made the right choice.
  • As we continue to accumulate more and more data, our database continues to meet our needs.

  • Incredible support and data integrity have allowed for more reliable backend systems.
  • Robust utilities for database management and analysis allow for a greater visibility into usage.
  • The ability to quickly gather insights into data and compartmentalize using schemas has given a great return on investment.

  • We ended up on Oracle on EXADATA for this one client as their evaluation told them that that was the only way their systems could deliver the performance needed. Sure a complete rewrite could have optimized it for other platforms, but there was neither time nor money available for that.

  • Migrating away from MySQL database has been very productive for us. We had severe maintenance issues with the community edition of that product, hence we selected Oracle instead.
  • Having the database housed locally at our company we can have patches and updates made as per our own needs and schedules.

  • Moving away from a third party vendor for our storage requirements has had a great impact in terms of budgetary savings.
  • We house the databases ourselves and can easily maintain and update them based on our own internal schedules.

  • As this was used in an academic setting, there is no monetary gain. The gain was in terms of knowledge and I believe that this was perfectly achieved.
  • One small negative impact is that people who do not have a general idea about databases prior to using the Oracle database do seem to struggle a bit.

  • We are not yet in production with 12c so we have yet to see any ROI in our evaluations.
  • Projected higher licensing costs for Enterprise Edition and AWS would mean we would not see ROI for an extended period.
  • As a smaller company, we see greater potential ROI from competing RDBMS products that do not penalize us for choosing a cloud vendor that is outside the Oracle stack.

  • Data querying is very fast, thanks to query plan optimization
  • Data is securely stored inside the database
  • Fault are well managed thanks to Oracle's RAC environment, allowing data to be always available

  • The main positive ROI I saw while using Oracle was in data mining. I previously worked at a location where data was collected over years and years but not utilized. This was all stored in an Oracle Database. Once the we started mining that data and writing tools to mine the data - we never had any issue with database performance.

  • The entire company has been running as one unit now, as the data is now in one place. Earlier the entire company was running using Excel.
  • Query performance is great and the scientists are happy.
  • From a support perspective, I do not have to rely on Google and find answers for any problems I have. Instead, rely on Oracle support.
