Here at SOS we use Dyn DNS to manage our public DNS infrastructure. The system works great, haven't had any issues with it so far. We don't do much advanced configuration with the system.
  • Easy to use web interface.
  • Great documentation if help is needed.
  • Good security features such as 2FA.
  • No complaints at this time.
Using it to manage public DNS works great

Dyn Managed DNS is being used as the primary of multiple DNS providers to host the key records for our business. DNS is managed by a central team but multiple internal teams manage their own access to sets of records. We make use of some of the proprietary features, such as Traffic Directors, but try and keep the use of features to a minimum.
  • Edge serving of DNS responses is a fairly core success of Dyn in the 9 years I have used them.
  • Feature-set is reasonably well developed, GeoDNS including IP/Client Subnet support.
  • Customer service is excellent and our technical account team have been good.
  • Too many legacy services are supported with different behavior methods, deprecating and merging features would be ideal. I.e Traffic Manager / Traffic Director should be collapsed.
  • The API is fragile and has always been a source of great concern and occasional consternation.
  • More interesting logging and metrics would be potentially interesting to explore.
  • Being able to merge 'advanced' services and also slave zone-files without excessive multi-zone complexity.
Simple DNS record serving, basic features/static responses.
As previously mentioned, some concerns over the overall API reliability to put it in the critical path for automation.

We learned the hard way, a few years ago, that using a registrar DNS for production domain is a bad idea.
Since we moved to Oracle Dyn, everything is now much easier.
We moved all our production domains to Dyn and also the ones that required a bit more features like Full featured DNS, Geo localization.
The multi user capabilities makes it great for allowing multiple employees to handle the work.
  • Full Featured DNS.
  • Responsive Servers.
  • Intuitive UI/UX.
  • The handling of the nodes in the expert or simple view is sometimes confusing.
  • HTTP redirects are not easy to find.
  • The login with the DYNID within the company is a bit clunky.
  • Maybe provide an overview of how the DNS has been propagated.
  • Add a Registrar capability.
The tool is really simple to use. In general the interface is great and the server and the DNS propagation are really responsive.
For what I can tell, it doesn't handle the registrar.
I wish we could have a duplicated registrar in case it goes down.

Oracle Dyn Managed DNS is used as primary and secondary DNS provider (depending on the domain). It is used across the whole organization. It is used in our company as a high throughput and very reliable DNS provider. We selected to choose two independent vendors (one being Oracle Dyn) for better reliability.
  • It is very reliable.
  • It has reasonable pricing.
  • It has pretty intuitive and well designed user interface.
  • The user interface is pretty slow sometimes.
  • I find change auditing UI insufficient.
  • Expert Editor does not work when there is large number of nodes ("Due to the large number of nodes in this listing, please use the Node Finder to navigate through your zone to a smaller subset.").
It's a good DNS solution for larger companies with relatively high DNS traffic that require certain level of reliability. It might not be good for smaller companies that don't have the mentioned requirements due to pricing. Also companies building their solutions on top of platforms that provide built-in DNS (like AWS or Akamai) may also choose not to use Oracle Dyn Managed DNS and choose the platform-provided DNS.

We are using Oracle Dyn DNS as a Hosted service for our external DNS for our entire organization. We chose to do this as part of a multi-year strategy to move to cloud services to reduce the support burdens on our IT staff.
  • The biggest advantage is that Dyn DNS reduces the workload on our internal IT staff. Mainly in regards to maintenance and patching but also from a security and monitoring standpoint.
  • The system is easy to use and requires very little training or expertise.
  • We have not had to call support very often over the years. But when we have they have always answered our questions and in a timely manner.
  • I would like to see the cost of the service reduced. While we do get value from the service there have been times more recently where we have considered moving DNS back in-house. This is not due to any issues with the service or support. If we were to do that it would be purely a financial decision as IT budgets are forced to do more with less.
Dyn DNS is well suited at providing external DNS hosting for large organizations that need high levels of reliability, performance and support. It is probably less appropriate for smaller companies with lower DNS usage. For companies with low DNS usage there are much cheaper alternatives in the market.

I am using Oracle Dyn Managed DNS to manage the DNS for several domain name. One domain name has thousands of subdomains. We use DynDNS to manage users ability to have different access to different domain names, which is an important aspect for us. Being able to grant users access to granular DNS settings allows our team to efficiently provide the necessary access to operate quickly with swift turnaround. Our entire engineering department has access to Oracle Dyn Managed DNS.
  • Provides good per user access
  • Is extremely cost effictive
  • Has great uptime
  • No integration with other cloud products from AWS, Google Could, Azure, etc
  • Batch zone updates which don't require having to edit zone files and then reupload. For example, updating the TTL for several records at a time in the UI
Oracle Dyn Managed DNS is best for a growing business who is currently using the DNS provided by their web hosting company. Decoupling your DNS provider from your web hosting or registrar allows flexibility to change providers while keeping all of your DNS up to date. Since DNS takes time to propagate, you do not want to be changing your DNS provider every time you change your hosting provider or domain registrar. Oracle Dyn Managed DNS has helped us avoid vendor lock in and be agile,

Our developers/website/email/online services for customers are resolvable by Oracle Dyn Managed DNS.
  • Stability and security are the main reasons for using Dyn DNS.
  • Not having to worry about DDOS attacks on DNS.
  • 2-factor authentication for users is a must.
  • Expensive.
  • Not only under our own control so issue with audits.
  • Not always user-friendly.
Well suited for high-availability, not something for a very small company due to costs.

It is being used across our entire organization. We have all of our records managed by them, and they do a great job of it. They are always very attentive to our needs and requests. Our organization is very uptime-centric and Oracle / DYN have done a great job of making those records reliably available.
  • Multiple record availability to the web.
  • Fast and reliable results for DNS queries.
  • Great protection of our records reputation and presence on the web.
  • I can't.....they do this job well!!
It's well suited for large-scale enterprise environments. The reliability is great!

As a small business website provider in a couple of very specific niches, we needed an HA solution to keep our sites available to consumers as close to 100% as possible. Rather than a single, high traffic domain name, we serve up thousands of independent business domains using the same underlying platform. The managed DNS solution from Dyn allows us to make sure our client sites are highly available.
  • API availability. Given that we deal with thousands of domains with different DNS record requirements, automated provisioning and updates are a must-have. Presence of working SDKs allow for quick integration and automation.
  • Traffic Controller. Ability to load balance and automatically failover to backup data centers seamlessly and automatically ensures a highly available web experience for our client sites.
  • Scalability. Traffic to client sites increases exponentially during holiday periods. The DNS infrastructure handles traffic spikes without issue.
  • Pricing for every individual, tiny feature makes understanding billing quite difficult. Features that you might think would be included in a per-domain cost, are not. Pricing for individual traffic controller records, individual domains, http redirects, resource records, QPS, etc... contract pricing could be greatly simplified and less expensive.
  • It could have been one-off scenario since it took place immediately after the Oracle purchase of Dyn, but it took 45+ days to get a credit from the billing department after signing an increased contract addendum when working on overage resolutions. This was unacceptable.
  • While handling traffic for large brand websites can be considered a positive for the business, the large number of sites that Dyn services also makes it a target for DDOS and other attacks. A disruption at one of the largest
  • Cost: The expectation of high availability is almost a given when building a platform that servers thousands of client websites. Given the simple failover features that our company uses I believe the product is overpriced. It works, but it is overpriced.
  • Reporting: When dealing with thousands of individual domains, reporting can be difficult to get snapshots of data for individual domains or identify zones that are generating an extraordinary amount of traffic. We've been forced to contact the support team to request some reporting that is not available in the management portal.
Large, branded, high-traffic single domain websites seem to be a good fit for services.

For thousands of websites running on a single proprietary platform and shared code-base, API integration is required to successfully work with large numbers of domains in bulk. Billing and pricing per individual feature can be confusing.

We manage the external DNS for our whole organization. Administration is centralized. We wanted to centralize the DNS service and have it hosted on a robust and stable platform. It provides an intuitive, easy to navigate interface.
  • Great user interface. Easy to navigate and intuitive. Well documented help notes.
  • Resilience and response. Service was impacted during a DDoS and a resolution was provided quickly.
  • A very affordable solution that will improve the resilience and availability of your DNS.
  • Some improvements to building a customized report would be welcomed.
If you need a resilient and responsive DNS for external resources at an affordable price, I would recommend Dyn.

We are using Oracle Dyn DNS Management throughout our entire organization. Prior to Dyn we had multiple operating units using any DNS management service they could find. We had some operating units running their own in-house DNS servers. There was no consistency and management across operating units was a nightmare. We have since all migrated our DNS servers over to DYN. This has made DNS management consistent across all our operating units. Great product.
  • The user interface is very easy to navigate and to be able to see all your DNS zones and records.
  • Changes do not go live until you have reviewed and published them. Great way to check if there are any errors
  • I am very happy with this product and do not have any issues with the service or think there is missing functionality.
I believe for any organization trying to get a handle on their DNS management DYN is a perfect fit. Easy to use UI and built in DNS distribution across multiple data centers provides protection in the event of a data center outage.

Oracle Dyn Managed DNS is used across our entire organization to provide high availability for our domains, servers, as well as disaster recovery (Traffic Director). This way our domains never go down, our servers can failover, and services remain highly accessible to clients, prospects, and employees via the internet.
  • It Just Works - We've tried several other solutions including running our own DNS and at the end of it all we found that you get what you pay for when it comes to DNS. Oracle Dyn Managed DNS works right out of the box.
  • 4 Name Servers - It is really nice having 4 name severs at our disposal instead of the traditional 2.
  • Extra Click to Publish - All changes made to a record need to be reviewed and officially "Published" in order to stick. This is quite helpful as I can't tell you how many times mistakes were made upon initial data entry.
  • Price - Oracle Dyn Managed DNS is on the upper end of price when compared to other solutions. While there is nothing wrong with a premium price for a premium service, we are just talking about DNS.
  • Traffic Director is a bit clunky to setup and get going. It requires that you spend time with their technical team to understand. This should be more intuitive.
  • False Positives with Downtime probes - There are several instances when a probe for detecting downtime experienced issues sending constant "Down" and "Up" signals. Its annoying, but not impactful.
If you've tried self hosting your DNS or other cheaper solutions and found yourself still lacking in performance and / or uptime, then you should check out Oracle Dyn Managed DNS. This is an enterprise solution and there are better solutions for small (from a domain or record perspective) organizations or hobbyists.

We use Dyn DNS for our external DNS for all of our sites. We use Dyn for DNS for any of the IPs we host, and our sites hosted by other providers.
  • Fantastic communication with any outages or maintenance.
  • Fast DNS response time across the globe!
  • Fantastically easy to use.
  • Very good protection for any DDOS attacks, or other malicious events.
  • Dyn has a very good user interface, the only room for improvement would be a guided walk-through for some of the more complex DNS functions (ie. DNS security record options).
It is fantastic for any externally hosted DNS application. They provide excellent security against malicious queries, from known bad DNS records your users could be trying to get to, to protection for our own DNS hosting.

DynDNS is used for our production level external DNS solution. We rely on DynDNS to handle all production load. DynDNS has many of the features required for various projects.
  • DynDNS has MFA
  • DynDNS also has API endpoints to integrate with command line tasks
  • DynDNS has reports to show domain usage
  • Reports could have more resolution, per domain.
The API endpoint helps us automate full site failover during our disaster recovery exercise.

It has been used for External DNS & Cloud DNS Service for our whole organisation, as well as for our customers. It used for all kinds of DNS services from API, DNSSEC automation, global load balancing etc.,
  • DNSSEC has become easier to manage
  • Traffic Director helps us to get a GEO based resolution
  • ANYCAST based DNS service which provides accuracy across all the regions without any downtime
  • When we add any new subdomain, it should reflect its NS records in the parent domain by default but it is not happening at this moment.
  • Traffic Manager methodology can be improved from a GUI perspective, it is a bit confusing at this moment.
  • [The ability to] restart a particular domain option would help us to make any immediate reflection to External Slave Servers.
Where DNS service is critical and requires 100% uptime for automation tasks.

Dyn Managed DNS is our public facing DNS provider. One key product we enjoy is the Active Failover Product.
  • The GUI interface is excellent
  • The call center is first class and able and eager to assist with DNS questions and strategies
  • The sales team is knowledgeable in their product offering
  • I don't see room [for improvement] at this time for the products and services I use. I'm very satisfied.

Our non-profit company hosts a number (50+) of critical to our mission websites. Those websites spread across different platforms like AWS, Azure, on-premise IIS, but all the external DNS records are hosted on Dyn name servers. The management panel is easy to use and works fast. DNS configuration is flexible and reliable. For the last 2 years there was only 1 outage (you might remember when Twitter was also affected).

For the most critical websites which have 2 ISPs we leverage Dyn's "Active Failover" service which saved us from outages a couple times already.
  • Dyn is reliable. For the last 2 years there was only 1 outage (you might remember when Twitter was also affected).
  • Dyn's "Active Failover" service which saved us from outages a couple times already.
  • Not much actually. 0 outages instead of 1 in the last 2 years wold be great, but that was not Dyn technical error - the outage was cause by DDoS attack.
Well suited for being your primary name server.

It is being used in the entire organization. We use it for DNS management. We have also tried dynamic IP, but that didn't worked for us. What I like about DNS is instant updates about DNS records and showing the preview before making it live.
  • Preview of all the changes before saving.
  • 2FA
  • Ease of locating all the sub domains.
  • Hard to reset password. (Too many constraints)
  • At times the page does not load. We always need to switch to different network to use DYN/DNS which is not the same with other providers like AWS.
  • UI is too slow when you release new features.
Cloud distribution network is something you should look at.

Oracle Dyn Managed DNS is the name server for all of our websites. GoDaddy is the host, but their DNS services are not reputable.

We use it as our primary DNS service for our main web property. Although we do have a backup DNS outside of Dyn, we use this across our entire organization. Our previous DNS provider had failed one time too many, so we chose Dyn for it's fast and reliable DNS.
  • Quick updates to DNS. Propagates changes quickly.
  • Speed. Low latency and fast response times.
  • Interface is old, but does the job.
  • It has a steep learning curve, so you'll need to know a bit about DNS before you use this service.
Dyn is great for large sites looking to maintain a fairly static DNS configuration. I feel it does a great job at being fast and reliable. However, I wouldn't recommend it for smaller sites due to costs and possible pitfalls for less experienced site owners. If you don't have a basic understanding of DNS and all the different ways you can use and abuse it, I would proceed with caution. You can really mess up things.

We use the managed DNS solution for most of our core domain names. Only our sysops employees have access to the product. The biggest problem it solves is redundancy in multiple geographic locations.
  • Low latency
  • Good redundancy
  • Easy to use
  • Geo-based DNS
  • Better solutions for companies with hundreds of thousands of domains
  • Support for comments in the IP restriction ACLs
  • A better error message when an IP isn't added to ACL upon login
Managed DNS works great if you have a handful of domains. I'd recommend it to most people if it fits their budget. I wouldn't recommend it you're looking for a value solution or if you're hosting mass domains.

Dyn is being used as one of two primary DNS providers for our main customer facing domain names. We chose Dyn over other offerings based on reputation and performance testing.
  • High uptime
  • Timely support
  • Low latency
  • Managed DNS API is very hard to work with, it is also slow when dealing with 1000s of records because the API requires lots of small sequential requests.
  • Traffic Director user interface is hard to understand. And it is confusing that is managed outside of the primary managed DNS interface.
Well suited for internet companies with high number of users, where the cost of the Dyn product is justifiable. Also for internet companies that have a large global presence, Dyn has low latency in most geo regions.

For smaller internet sites, I would likely recommend they choose AWS Route53 for its ease of use, and low cost. Route53 doesn't have as good global performance, which is why we wanted to look at other vendors.

Oracle Dyn Managed DNS service is used as our main DNS provider throughout our company; we chose to use it due to its high SLAs and advanced features that we used as a solution for our multi geo platform (traffic director) which helped us achieve our product needs while focusing more on the product and less on the infrastructure.
  • Enterprise-grade SLAs for both their service and their management console/APIs
  • Advanced features such as traffic director/active failover which removes the need to develop them yourself
  • Easy to use APIs for automation in creating/updating DNS records
  • Have more expert options for features such as traffic director where you can have more control over the underlying algorithms
  • Provide better compatibility with other providers to better allow an addition of 2nd DNS providers for its customers (to avoid SPOF)
If you need an enterprise-grade DNS solution, go for it! It has all of the needed features to support every use case a company might need, with high SLAs and a great support team.

Pricing might be a bit higher than other providers, so for lesser, smaller projects/companies that might be an issue.

We switched to Managed DNS from the basic DNS product in order to gain access to the automatic monitors and failover of our critical systems. While the monitoring isn't particularly advanced (really just up/down) it is very effective and even fails over (and back again) during very brief server reboots.

The rest of the product isn't that different from a basic DNS provider and works adequately.
  • DNS Active Failover is fast and easy to set up.
  • Basic DNS settings are easy to view and change.
  • Dyn now has multiple control panels for its various products and services. It's not always easy to find what you are looking for.
  • Switching to the Managed DNS product from the simple one was advertised as an instant changeover, but it didn't work that way for us. Months later we were still being charged for the basic service and our domain was still showing up in the old system.
Managed DNS is great for a small to medium sized business looking for reasonably priced DNS services that offer a decent amount of features. It offers quite a bit more than your average registrar.
