SQL Developer

If you have an Oracle Data warehouse, then you do not actually need a different IDE for your data development. In the past, it was necessary to have TOAD or something similar, but now the new versions of SQL developer allow it to be used for most use cases. Very stable and great for analysts and DBAs.

As far as an SQL platform it is a great option, the only downside that it may have is training and support. They do build it to be very simple but it would be nice if they were to provide training for the advanced features.

They need to improvise on extraction of data. It is really a great tool for any type of SQL queries. It can be used for custom queries and reports. This being free, it has a lot of features compared to other non-free tools. Hence, I would always want to use SQL Developer.

Well suited for management of dwh both in small than in big sizes. Not really suitable for Big Data Management.

I think SQL developer is great for anyone who needs to query a DB and create different views. I can use it to quickly access the data that we house for governance purposes.

Oracle SQL Developer is ideal for everyday common database CRUD operations. It is also helpful in formatting SQL queries into Java code and vice versa.

SQL Developer is well suited to create reports that are not readily available as a seeded report. It also makes it easy to make changes to seeded reports (adding/removing columns, calculated columns). Database monitoring as well as connecting to third party databases for monitoring is also simple. The tree based object browser makes it easy to navigate where you want to go.

SD is well suited for PL/SQL development, some data analysis, and executing of SQL. The price is certainly right at 'free'... I find it not as helpful when it comes to SQL performance tuning. I usually have to resort to SQL*Plus or other tools to run the more advanced performance tuning things such as SQL Trace.

Oracle SQL Developer is a professional tool for managing and organizing SQL databases. It, therefore, supports database administrators and programmers in general, who appreciate the functions developed specifically for Oracle SQL. In fact, it can be counted among the Integrated Development Environment (IDE), as it allows us to carry out typical activities of this category of applications. This integrated work environment is available in Windows, Mac, and Linux environments, showing a certain versatility of use.

Less appropriate for Non SQL related tasks

SQL Developer is a great tool when dealing with SQL Databases, like Oracle 11g, 12c or IBM DB2. For No-SQL databases, like MongoDB, this isn't appropriate.

If you are working with Oracle Database, SQL Developer is the way to go. If you go with other databases like SQL Server you could prefer SQL Management or Toad.

SQL Developer is well suited with Oracle Database, importantly it's free with it. SQL Developer gives all the good features required by developer or admins when using Oracle Database, and it's easy to use. However, when used with other database SQL Developer has its limitations to have their features and functions.

Its ideal for basic database operations like viewing some records, checking the SQL DDL for the tables defined. Also you can perform CRUD operations by just point and click technique.

SQL Developer is great for keeping multiple Oracle database query sessions open at one time within one application. If I use SQL*Plus, I have to have a terminal server connection open first. So every SQL session is in a different window. That quickly becomes a lot of windows to keep track of. We do not use it for running automated scripts. Those are done through the command line.

SQL Developer allows coders to take a business task and create an easy to read end product. Building views for consumer data, creating new tables with relevant information, and importing lots of data. SQL Developer does not allow for the maximum scaling and dependent on add-ons.

Whenever you're developing on an Oracle Database, SQL Developer is well suited. [Well suited] For creation of E-R models, schemas, database monitoring and administration or simple relational structure enquiring. To help with these tasks, you can improve your experience with this software by coupling it with other add-ons, like SQL Developer Data Modeler or other tools with specific functionalities. SQL Developer is not invasive since it doesn't require being installed. You just need to copy its files to a folder (both on a local computer or on remote) and, as you have the client for database connection, you're done. But, above all, it's a free tool! You or your organization don't have to pay anything to use it. You just have to download it from the Oracle website (like 400 Mb) and you're ready to start your work.

SQL Developer integrates well with Oracle DB. It's good for beginners, but not as good for advanced querying. It can be some time very slow. Needs a little bit more work.

SQL Devloper is well suited for querying very extensive databases. This software allows you to explore and access large amounts of information very quickly. The user can leverage important information from many different tables of data. It is quite easy to create and execute complex code scripts to access very specific data. The software enables the user to review and debug the sql language very easily. SQL developer can also be used to quickly input data. This software has a medium difficult learning curve and requires sql writing training prior to use.

For PL-SQL procedures and functions, SQL Developer is best suited and highly recommended.

Only when nothing else is available do we use SQL Developer.
