  • Able to consolidate four low-risk servers onto a single host server, reduced our power footprint significantly, and set us on the path to virtualization.
  • Quickly spin up multiple dev/test environment without looking for physical servers. This has saved us on many occasions.
  • It is a free software, incredibly reliable, the ROI can only be positive.

  • Work is now much faster since you do not need to be installing and uninstalling operating systems each time you need a different OS.
  • It has reduced expenses for the business for example in the case where an application that is being tested damages the device and the device has to be replaced.
  • Since you can install many VMs on VirtualBox, one device can do the workload of many devices which saves time.

  • Mainly in avoiding costs of other solutions by providing virtualized options instead
  • It makes it easier for our engineers to get the resources they need in a portable environment
  • It is great to do research or test things out in an isolated virtualized environment without affecting the host system

  • Being free, it provides a very low bar of entry into virtualization. This has allowed for the purchase of single high-end machines that can support multiple virtual machines vs. purchasing multiple low-end machines for multiple single-use purposes.
  • There is an active and helpful support community making it easier to solve some common issues.
  • While free, it can be more difficult to use than competing alternatives, thus costing more man hours to get a VM up and running.
  • While the support community can be helpful, finding solutions to more obscure issues can take a lot more time--and thus more man hours spent.

  • One positive impact it has had is cost savings, as there is no cost for running the software. There are many other commercial offerings that can get costly, and even some that the licensing has to renew every year/couple of years, but not so with VirtualBox. This can be run without any of those restrictions.
  • Another positive impact it has had is with regards to working well in a production environment, where there are a number of different OS platforms. It has managed these quite well.

  • Oracle VM VirtualBox is free, so it had no impact on our company's budget.
  • As we are now able to patch platform-specific bugs in our software, we have increased customer satisfaction as well as reduced the number of bug tickets.
  • We have saved expenses on buying additional hardware to test our applications on different OS's.

  • It saves money because it's free, available, and easy to use for a type 2 hypervisor.
  • It saves money because you don't have to buy a commercial solution to do the same thing.
  • It's handy because VMs can be dragged and dropped from one system to another with minimal effort.

  • It reduced costs in training myself and other new IT staff when I first started using it by creating a low-risk environment for us to learn about building VMs and Linux in general.
  • It has saved costs on having to expand my hard drive or have multiple web servers running, by allowing me to just spin up and close local servers when I need them.

  • Having to setup and maintain certain dev and test topologies may be a painstaking process when bare-metal is the only choice. VM Technologies, such as Oracle VM VirtualBox come to our aid, in that case, greatly saving time and resources for the company.
  • Its learning curve is almost close to nothing, every new employee that comes to work, even when having zero experience in this technology is able to process its paradigm in almost zero time and start using it right away.
  • Backups have become a more stable and seamlessly process with Oracle VM VirtualBox, with the snapshot functionality that gives us a better rotating policy means.
