The Paddle Platform provides an optimal checkout experience will convert more inbound leads, scale sales-assisted invoicing to more business accounts, and add subscription billing to better retain and expand customer base. The Finance Layer ensures companies get as much revenue as possible, while remaining secure and globally compliant. Transactions between multiple payment partners dealing with sales tax compliance are covered and proteced against fraud. The Revenue Data Layer acts as a single "source of truth." So whether reports are run through Paddle or connect to another tool, data is reliable.

In my opinion, really bad seller support. Tickets open for nearly a month now with a total of 4 responses of support. I think that the API is missing some crucial information, same for the documentation. Implementation was easy enough, though not worth it in the long run. Fees are moderate.

In my experience as a seller, I did not receive my payout for a month, now I'm in the 2nd month of not getting it including this month which might also not be paid out. I did not get any information about it before I contacted them through email (beforehand contacted thru live chat). Generally would not recommend it to anyone searching for a stable company with good communication.

Paddle is a used across Nice Mohawk's mac software titles and was used for analytics in additional mobile products. It presents an integrated sales experience for our customers along with a comprehensive backend that handles payments processing, subscriptions, analytics, and multiplatform SDKs. It 100% satisfies our sales pipeline management as an indie µISV. In particular, their attention to streamlining and optimizing the purchase experience for the customer is highly attractive when compared to the hamhanded interfaces of many other offerings in the space.
Pros
  • Super easy to implement SDKs across supported platforms that support modern interface paradigms.
  • Real team members that provide backend support for merchant issues. We had issues addressed quickly and taken seriously whenever we needed anything.
  • Help with navigating VAT transparently. We never worried that we were messing up in this complicated area of international sales.
  • Great first line customer support reduces the need for an extensive customer support organization on our end. They dealt with all purchase related issues as well as lightweight technical issues (e.g pointing users to FAQs, update links, etc.).
Cons
  • Analytics could support more flexible analysis of reported data and better custom events.
  • More customization of the drop in purchase UI on the web without the need for a full custom site integration.
  • Sometimes communication from their front line support staff has gone to the wrong address.
Likelihood to Recommend
We feel that Paddle is well suited in any software offering that requires an in-app purchase flow or a custom built subscription model. It's ease of set up and low overhead make it particularly attractive to small and medium businesses and software vendors that manage multiple products with a similar purchase pipeline.

In very large platform scenarios, a fully custom solution might provide more flexibility since direct integration with the underlying payment processor can be built in-house. With this of course comes the cost of initial engineering and maintenance.

Alternatives Considered
Paddle has better customer experience than other offerings in its class. Provides a low overhead and quick setup solution when compared to direct Stripe integration. It is competitive on rates with other offerings and when features like frontline support, abandoned cart recovery, and user suggestions are factored into their offering, their rates are more than competitive.

I've been using their service for a few years and their support has gotten progressively worse up to the point where they don't pay out vendors on time. Getting any kind of meaningful response from support is borderline impossible and it takes them at least a day to respond even in the most trivial cases. They only have email support. No phone or live chat. My current ordeal has been going on for over 10 days and has gotten to the point where I did not get paid on time purely due to Paddle's negligence. I reminded them I plead, I was polite but that's not the way to resolve anything with them. If you need a reliable merchant of records avoid Paddle and find somebody else.

I wouldn't recommend them to anybody because their support is getting worse and worse and their business processes require you to contact support whether you want to or not. You will be forced to contact support and then wait for days to get any meaningful response that's not a copy/pasted sentence from FAQ.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope
We started using Paddle for our recurring billing at Iconscout. Being an Indian startup it's difficult to get a recurring payment gateway, thus we opted for Paddle who provides this feature. Now, we're using Paddle for all our transactions.

  • Easy to implement

  • More detailed dashboard
  • Invoicing feature for accepting direct payments
  • It's better if they can offer lower transaction rates
Likelihood to Recommend
Paddle is adequate for Indian SaaS companies who have a majority of their customer base outside of India. It's really easy to integrate and has good customer support. If your targeted audience is regional then you should probably look for a local alternative.

We use Paddle in our browser extensions to provide in-app purchase functionality. We also use Paddle and DevMate integration to sell licenses for our macOS application. It handles trials, as well as blocking the app usage if the user didn’t provide a license. We also use Paddle for in-app analytics for our Mac App Store app to collect user behavior data.

Paddle is perfect if you want to sell your macOS app from your website. It’s also very good if you want to provide in-app purchases in your web application or browser extension. It’s easy to integrate and the integration rarely needs any changes. It won’t be as good for e-commerce.

  • We added browser extension in-app purchases thanks to Paddle, which now generate our revenue.

  • Stripe
We tried using Stripe before Paddle, but it was a pain integrating it and it lacked the licensing. Paddle allows us just to add a payment button and don’t ever think about payment methods, we don’t have to make a separate button for card payments and another one for PayPal. Paddle does all this in their checkout process.
