I've used both Infusionsoft and Marketo in previous roles to aid in marketing automation. Infusionsoft is much more small business and is great for that market. Marketo, although appropriate for a variety of company sizes, is less user friendly and requires more developed skillsets for managers of the system. There is no same ease of creating landing pages and emails, for example, as there is with Pardot, where inexperienced/non-designers and non-coders on your marketing team can make beautiful pages and emails that are mobile-friendly and dynamic.

Pardot is a much more robust product than Act-On. We had used Act-On back when we were just getting into the marketing automation use and Act-On was a very young company just starting out, so the fit was good for both sides. As we started requiring more and more, it seemed that Pardot was a much better fit due to the sophistication of its various capabilities as well as the roadmap for improvements. And it fit within our budget!

Pardot out-ranks the competition in regards to the integration with Salesforce. It is hard to beat the ability to use your already-made customer profiles and contact information in your marketing campaigns. Where it is lacking is the usability. MailChimp is a much more user friendly product that I would recommend to those looking for a simpler but still effective marketing campaign product.

  • Wired Marketing
It integrated poorly with Salesforce. While it exists in your org, it created its own network of objects in order to work. These often duplicated the function of standard objects and actually ended up reducing efficiency and streamlining of processes.

We selected Pardot primarily because it is native to Salesforce and we felt that long term it would be the better solution for our needs, based on our commitment to Salesforce. HubSpot seemed to be targeted more towards a small business, based on our experience using that product, and Act-On was very user-friendly but basic in its execution.

  • Salestalk
I think the biggest difference is Salestalk is so much easier to use and execute on. Pardot has a nicer user interface, but so much more work to bulid a campaign and execute. The email editor is much better in Pardot, but really stupid how it works. You have to click on one side of the screen and then edit on the other side. Really annoying to use. But solid, no problems and you get used to it. Salestalk email editor has some issues. Crashes too often.

Why I like Pardot

I used Marketo and hated it. It was difficult to use, required too many steps to execute a program, and the customer service was terrible. I actually don't know why anyone would use it when options like Pardot and Hubspot are available. Pardot is exactly the opposite - easy to use, quick to set up and execute a campaign, and awesome customer service. Pardot really makes their customers feel important and will take good care of you at Dreamforce!

Pardot - It works!

I used ExactTarget in a company that had a large B2C focus, as well as a B2B. If sending large volumes of emails to consumers, ET is the solution of choice. Pardot is a better fit if you're looking at smaller volumes and if you need interaction with the sales team based on prospect actions. Pardot enables marketing - sales communications.

We didn't test any other products. Pardot was a given when I joined our team as the marketing manager. Once Salesforce acquired the software / technology, it was an even bigger slam dunk on why we should purchase Pardot for our company. I don't know of any other software out there that is so focused on the SMB B2B market. They make us look a lot bigger than we actually are. That was a big selling point for us.

HubSpot: Pardot wins (by a huger margin) on both product and customer service.

Eloqua/Marketo/Silverpop - have used all three of these. They are solid solutions but integration with Salesforce is not as tight or reliable. In addition I found clients have a longer time to implement and time to value of the solution. The user interface and setup of Pardot is more intuitive.

Pardot syncs more seamlessly with Salesforce so when new leads come in, my team better understands where they came from, which in turn allows us to better qualify them, manage them and nurture them. Pardot has a higher email deliverability rate than HubSpot which has lead to an increase in emails opened and marketing collateral downloaded. Pardot's automated email drip campaign is easier to set up, which decreases the amount of time I need to set up running marketing campaigns. Pardot has greater customer service, on-boarding/training and on-going support.

I have used parts of the marketing cloud. While certain components of the marketing cloud are better (like social studio), the marketing automation and email marketing components of pardot are better and best suited for our business.

We have used Eloqua and Exact Target previously. Pardot is miles ahead of the competition. They are the ones that raise the standard in opposition to clunky and out of touch interfaces and non-intuitive automations. It is a marketers dream to have tools that do not require IT involvement just to do simple or even medium complexity automation. It has saved us so much money just in its automation features alone that Exact Target required APEX to perform the same functionality at additional costs of thousands of dollars. Eloqua was a flop for us. I believe that we contracted with Exact Target as quickly as possible because of the poor performance of Eloqua. Once we discovered Pardot, we actually maintained about 6 months of the remaining Exact Target contract and made the switch to Pardot. This may have cost us monetarily in the short term, but once free to automate and dynamically build lists we will never go to another MAS.

  • Eloqua
Pardot has a better two-way sync with CRM, however Eloqua was able to separate the contact and lead objects. Other than that, Pardot exceeds Eloqua in every way. Much simpler UI for employees, better utilization of templates to create landing pages and emails, ensuring consistency in design & analytics tracking.

I've used several marketing automation companies. I like Pardot. I am truly a fan. My CEO knew I was a frustrated Marketing Director. Every so often he will ask for an update to see how I am doing and if I still like Pardot. My response is simple, "love Pardot! Don't take away my Pardot!"
