We use the email encryption product across our entire organization. It allows us to ensure all email is encrypted end-to-end, without needing to train users on how to use/configure the software. The software detects encryption capabilities and steps in to encrypt emails if necessary. The setup has been easy and the management of the solution has been trivial once deployed.
  • Email encryption.
  • Impersonation detection.
  • Email DLP.
  • Recalling an errant email.
  • Improved reporting.
  • Expiring an email after a preconfigured duration.
We use the solution to ensure emails are encrypted end-to-end. The solution determines encryption status between the email providers and will step in to add additional layers of encryption as necessary. Additionally, with inbound email protection, the solution can detect impersonation attempts. They also have a DLP module that can be used to detect emails being sent with sensitive information in them.
  • Reduced cost over previous solution.
  • Eliminated training requirements.
  • No on-premise software or appliance necessary.
Virtru required us to train our end users how to use the product, and when using it was necessary. This opened the door for mistakes (emails not being encrypted when they should be). We also needed to know who needed the solution, so it could be provisioned to them, and they could get the necessary training. Proofpoint and Mimecast were very expensive.

We only use Paubox email in our dental practice. Encrypted mail is the only way to safely communicate to our patients that is HIPAA compliant and private. We also use Paubox email to correspond with specialist to treatment plan and coordinate appointments for patients.
  • Great integration with Outlook.
  • Works like regular email.
  • No having to set up users for email recipients.
  • Only drawback was the actual setup in Outlook was a little tricky. I called support and they made it easy.
Paubox is great to use within the company as the only email platform you will need. We have it working right from Outlook. No need to log into a different platform and you can be assured that all email goes out encrypted. Compliance isn't an issue when the email program works like regular email.
  • Easy to use.
  • Compliance with secure email is not an issue.
I can't remember the email program we used before but we had to log in online and it would not leave us logged in for any length of time. Sending an email and retrieving emails was always so many steps.

I am the sole business owner of an independent private mental health therapy practice, and I use Paubox integrated seamlessly with my Google Workspace (formerly GSuite) subscription to send/receive encrypt my email communications with and about clients. As a medical professional, the HIPAA health information privacy law mandates me to protect identifying client information, so using Paubox to encrypt my email allows me to legally communicate with my clients by email, a necessary function for the running of my business, without compromising their privacy.

When you purchase Paubox's service, the instructions to integrate its settings into your domain settings at first glance look complicated and intimidating. However, it is not so. Paubox's setup instructions are 100% accurate and walk the user through the domain settings setup process step-by-step in a way that is easy to follow and execute correctly. The one time I had a question about the process, Paubox's customer service team was extremely responsive by email and quickly helped me resolve my question. All in all, setup is an easy step by step walkthrough and integration and functioning with my Google Workspace domain is seamless and effortless - set it and forget it! Thank you Paubox!
  • Seamless integration into domain settings (e.g. Google domains). Set it and forget it!
  • Step-by-step, easy setup instructions, make the complicated feel easy.
  • Prompt, helpful, responsive customer service.
  • Provides HIPAA-compliant send/receive encryption for legal email communication of PHI/PII.
  • Setup instructions to integrate Paubox with your domain look really complicated and daunting (but they are easy to follow because they are totally accurate).
  • Each license is $120 yearly, a totally reasonable cost for its value, but the ridiculous thing is that you are required to buy licenses in sets of 3, even if you are a sole proprietor solo business owner who only needs one license. This does not consider all the independent medical professionals in solo private practice who require HIPAA-compliant email encryption. I still pay $360 a year for 3 licenses because Paubox is the best out there, but very grudgingly, because that is an exorbitant price for one user.
It is well-suited where you have access to manage your business's own domain settings.
It is well-suited to medical professionals requiring send/receive email encryption of PHI/PII in compliance with HIPAA.
It is less well-suited to solo users than group users, due to Paubox's requirement to buy licenses in sets of 3 (requiring you to pay $120x3=$360 yearly for 3 licenses, even if you only need 1 license).
  • Allows me the crucial ability to communicate with clients via email while protecting their PHI/PII as legally mandated by HIPAA.
  • Ease of use - easy to follow setup instructions, set it and forget it.
  • I couldn't legally use email in my business with clients or about clients if it weren't encrypted - imagine running a business without email in this day and age! Call that a return on my investment!
  • Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)
I selected Paubox and Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) to use together in tandem because I heard reviews and feedback from many other business owners in my field that these two programs worked the best individually and interfaced seamlessly best together as a pair. The chorus from my industry screamed "G Suite plus Paubox" so after cursory research of other services, I subscribed to both services without seriously considering any other options and never regretted the choice for a second. They work every bit as well both together and independently as was promised to me.

Paubox enables us to communicate securely while maintaining the familiar convenience of email for the vast majority of our customers. Those few customers who use an email provider that doesn't support TTL encryption are automatically routed through a secure messaging portal.

Since Paubox was easy to integrate with our existing customer support system (HelpScout), we were able to continue using our preferred systems, making Paubox a truly seamless and mostly transparent solution.
  • Seamlessly chooses regular email when supported by our customer, and a secure messaging portal when not.
  • Integrates easily and transparently with existing email tools.
  • Reasonably priced.
  • The Paubox webmail is very primitive. But we wouldn't want to use that anyway since we already have preferred email tools and only wanted Paubox for a behind-the-scenes infrastructure component.
  • If Paubox is primarily an infrastructure play, which it seems to be best suited for, then it could have a very simple, modern web UX for sign-in and setup. As it is, it's pretty kludgy. But I only needed to interact with it a couple times to se everything up.
Great for secure communication with customers (e.g. for companies that fall under HIPAA). Could be a good option for B2B discussing sensitive information. Unnecessary for regular B2C communication.
  • Paubox provided a plug-n-play solution, requiring no extra development, so the switchover cost was very low.
  • By integrating with our existing support system, Paubox added no overhead to our customer support.
  • The user experience is great for the vast majority of our customers (those whose email provider supports TTL encryption), so customer satisfaction remains high.

All staff members that have patient interaction (online) use Paubox to provide, easy, HIPAA-compliant communications to our patients. We switched to Paubox after using some other encrypted email options and we are extremely happy we made the decision.
  • Once set up, it's seamless
  • Great support from the IT team
  • A little setup involved, but the support team was very helpful.
Any situation where protected health information or other sensitive data needs to be sent and easily accessed.
  • Positive. We have saved a ton of time and patients are happy.
Paubox is much easier to use than other software we have tried. Once it's installed, we almost forget about it.
