What is Paycom?

For 25 years, Paycom Software, Inc. (NYSE:PAYC) has offered businesses and their employees HR and payroll technology that provides direct access to their data. Paycom's Beti® technology enables employees to do their own payroll, so they are guided to find and fix costly errors before payroll submission. From onboarding and benefits enrollment to talent management, Paycom’s software streamlines processes, and gives employees access to their own HR information. Paycom can now serve businesses of all sizes in the U.S. and internationally.

Paycom states they have approximately 36,820 clients across the United States (as of Dec. 31, 2023), up 1% from the prior year. On April 15, 2014, Paycom became a public company with its shares opening for trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol PAYC. In early 2020, the company joined the S&P 500.

We use Paycom to do our bi-weekly and monthly commission payrolls. We also use Paycom to administer our benefits, open enrollment processes, and cobra. We currently use Paycom to run back-round checks on employees and new hires. <br><br>I love the reports that can be run and generated in Paycom, which can help solve problems, and provide information needed quickly to management and myself.<br><br>We have applicant tracking, but have yet to get it up and running, something we are working on for future use.

Paycom is a great system and has done much more than our previous payroll provider. It's great for reports, they have plenty of auto generated reports to select from as well as an advanced report writer to create your own reports. The on-boarding process is nice too, taking the time of setting up a new hire down quite a bit, since they input most of their own information, and we just have review. We use less paper and storage using the self-onboarding process. There is a lot offered, which makes the payroll and HR process much more easier to manage.
Only down fall, which has only been in the last year, is that our dedicated specialist has changed quite a bit, high turn-over. I know many businesses are struggling with this to be fair, and there is always someone to talk to if you have a question, but you may get a different person each time.

Paycom is perfect for the experienced payroll person. In my experience, you cannot always get in touch with your specific Paycom representative and that can be frustrating at times. Since Paycom is a midwest based company there are certain tax items in NY and probably other states that were not implemented when we started with them, so having a knowledgeable payroll person is a necessity!

We use Paycom for tracking current and past employees, payroll, training, and more. Paycom has become our one-stop shop for all uses in our HR department. It is extremely user friendly and has proved to be a great tool in our department. The HRIS is able to keep our employees in one centralized location even when we have employees located all throughout the United States, our training has become easier to navigate and keep track of, and our payroll is almost completely error free every single time. Our benefits management system is almost flawless and the customer service at Paycom is always willing to help out when there is an issue with it.

Our organization uses Paycom to address a variety of human resources business needs such as timesheet management; clocking hours; PTO; benefits; required training; employee policies; onboarding; payroll-related items, such as hourly rates, pay stubs, tax information; and there is a mobile application that makes life a little easier on-the-go. There is a management portal that makes time and labor management simple.

  • Clearing notifications. Every year I do my benefits enrollment on time and submit them. They are active; however, I cannot clear the notification for benefit enrollment in Paycom. It has been this way for a few years. Each year has a new notification for the new year and the old notification finally disappears, but I cannot get rid of the current year notification. This could be caused by an end-user error.
  • Web timesheet says "read only" but this is where you go to actually submit your time. This may be something HR can customize.
  • It would be nice to see paid holidays when requesting PTO. My employer may just need to add it to a calendar or document in Paycom.
Paycom is an excellent all-in-one HR tech solution suitable for most enterprise companies. Limitations may result from a lower tier package chosen by an employer or an employer simply not updating the platform completely. Small to medium-sized businesses may be better suited with ADP products. Paycom is a solid choice to optimize HR management, payroll, and talent acquisition.

We use Paycom as a full service HRIS system, for all of our compliance and payroll needs. Recently Paycom ran an updated - calling it an "enhancement". Prior to the enhancement we had no issues, Paycom was great for our compliance needs and payroll. Now it is awful. The enhancement actually removed some of our compliance information and our representative at Paycom doesn't even know why it happened. Currently, Paycom is not addressing any issues, it is only creating issues.
I cannot state anything positive about the new "enhanced" Paycom. It is slow, the new visual takes up so much more space, forms that took up one page now take up 3. Items are no longer organized, tracking cannot be updated. Changes keep occurring without any notice and we are now struggling to process daily tasks and maintain compliance.

Paycom is an onboarding and payroll program. It reduces the physical paperwork of onboarding a new employee and shifts the responsibility for maintaining personal information to the employee from the employer.

Paycom has been our payroll processing company for nearly 18 years. They seamlessly process our semi-monthly and monthly payrolls as well as regularly remit the necessary payroll taxes on our behalf.

Overall I have been extremely pleased with the high level of service we have received from Paycom over the years. Questions are answered promptly and, if necessary, researched and responded to within hours. It is nice to have a vendor we can count on to be reliable to submit the necessary payroll taxes as well as track 401(k) contributions and limits, etc.

We use most modules and the system allows for a unique solution to various aspects of the hire to retire cycle. The system allows for important oversight when it comes to compliance and improves employee engagement. The system also ensures that data entered for employees is accurate since employees know their information the best.

  • Paycom is ambitious in its enhancements, but turnover of specialist means the learning curve is greater for them which diminishes service
Paycom provides a great suite of services to help run any business smoother as it covers well the hire to retire cycle. However, some of the modules that are affected by enhancements are not as impactful, and in some ways take away flexibility. Paycom also needs to focus heavily in California based compliance and ensure that the product is able to satisfy CA based companies better.

Paycom is our payroll and timekeeping platform. We had used Paycom in the past, then transitioned to a full-service PEO. This was a mistake, and less than a year after this transition we went back to Paycom. We are happier than ever with the updates and support we have received from Paycom. We won't be misled by the promises of other platforms. We're home with Paycom!

Paycom makes it easy for our employees to manage their own taxes, see their pay, reviews, etc. Our open enrollment process works great and saves time, and is user-friendly. We are utilizing more of the programs Paycom provides, like exit interviews, to streamline and do reporting with this function.

Customer service is good, although there has been a lot of our reps have been changed. It is user-friendly for our employees. Employee changes just got updated, but now we have to key in employees' names several times to get them to change. Our employees have benefited from this program, so they are able to check for changes on their timecards or make tax changes if needed.

We use Paycom for employee on boarding (all paperless), benefits open enrollment ( all automated and uploaded to provider with changes), payroll, time card ( approvals and lunches allowed on phone or desktop) as well as background and MVR checks with fast turnaround times. By far the simplest yet robust system I’ve used in 20 years off doing HR.

Great for a small company, product is easy to use and employees no matter what their role can use it without much assistance from HR. There are videos to help employee learn how to use the system as well as documents with screen shots of the system. On boarding is the simplest process I have used candidates are sent a link and go online and complete all their paperwork there is no hard copies everything is online and then uploaded to their profile. Which prevent errors from data entry if done by HR.

We moved to Paycom from another payroll processing company in 2011 and have been pleased with this decision ever since. The interface is easy to use, from the new hire process to payroll to the bi-weekly payrolls. It is so easy to look up history for VOE requests. Customer service is always available and able to help with any questions that I have. And in the rare instances that a payroll correction has to be made, they make the process as simple as possible. I highly recommend them.

As a religious organization, setting new minister hires up with their specific tax profiles can be daunting. Paycom specialists are always knowledgeable when I call to consult in these situations. We use it primarily for time and attendance and processing payroll.
As we are a small company with little to no turnover, we are not using many of the automated HR functions of the application.
We have some payroll taxes that are unique to our company since we do not pay into Social Security, rather we pay into the Railroad Retirement Tax system. This required prior to going live that Paycom configure the system for these taxes since I don't think that Paycom previously had a customer with these needs.
  • Its platform is fully integrated from one source and not with other external vendor sources
  • The interface and mobile app are incredibly easy to use
  • Paycom has streamlined many processes through automation
  • They have a high rate of turnover at the Team Leader position
  • Changes to Team Leaders are made with no advance communication/notification to customers
  • There has been inconsistent timely follow-up from Paycom on issues that are forwarded to them for resolution
As mentioned in a prior question, the system has eliminated paperwork due to automation that has been built into it.

When new Team Leaders have been assigned to our account, there has been no transition done by their predecessor, which has required that I 'onboard' the new individual, particularly surrounding our company's unique payroll tax structure with the Railroad Retirement Board.

We use Paycom as our payroll and benefits administrator. In general, the biggest benefit of Paycom is the flexibility to adjust the system to meet our needs. We have come across a few road bumps during implementation, but we’ve been, for the most part, able to work around them to get the system to process information in the way that we wanted to. I am quite pleased with its reporting tools. Prior to our switch to Paycom, many benefit processes were done offline. We now can handle all of those items within the platform, which ensures not only we remain compliant with various governmental regulations but also provides a good audit trail if there’s a question as to what has happened.

  • Internal customer service communication. I often had tax or accounting issues, but communication with those specific departments was not allowed. It would simply become passing messages between our customer specialist and that department, with no resolutions forthcoming.
  • Cost for many additional modules and features are steep
I believe the few issues I have had with Paycom are mostly due to the COVID period. Paycom's rapid expansion seems to have caused some growing pains, especially with the erratic labor market. Hopefully this will smooth out in the future.
Paycom is a vendor geographically local to our organization, which we prefer if possible.
Per my research on payroll providers, Paycom seems to be the best currently available. User friendly system.

I use Paycom to handle all of my payroll needs. The actual payroll deductions and the preparation of Tax Documents required for payroll are handled without me having to take time away from regular business needs. Thanks to Paycom, I can focus all of my time and efforts on growing the business.

I use it as an employee and a client. Some of the business problems are as follows; every time there is a glitch when there is an update. For example, this time, we can not click on the exemption for the social security tax for teachers manually. When a new hire is entered into the system by another HR personnel, I cannot see it on my end unless I log in and out. There are no reports on age and commute.

Not only is Paycom a very good product but the implementation team and support are first-rate. For employees, the ability to securely access their payroll and employment records from anywhere is a huge benefit. For the HR staff, managing an employee's lifecycle in one place has created an efficient and streamlined administration process. Lastly, having the HR components (I.e., pay rates, benefits, etc.) linked to payroll along with integrating Paycom’s payroll data with our existing accounting system has created a seamless single-pane-of-glass workflow that once was disjointed and cumbersome.
  • Manages complex benefits configurations well.
  • Our implementation team was excellent! Unlike other products, Paycom does the implementation for you so you don't have to figure out how to do it at the same time your team is learning how to use it.
  • Staff training was done by the Paycom implementation team and was very good.
  • One thing we found unusual is that Paycom does not integrate with your benefits providers by default. It is an available add-on.
We are a government agency with just under 200 employees managing many programs with diverse funding sources and diverse benefits solutions. In general, if an organization needs basic payroll and benefits management most companies, including Paycom, can provide a reasonable solution. If a company's needs are complex and require high-level service and/or customizations then Paycom is a solid choice. Paycom is our agency's third Payroll/HRIS solution and the only one that has successfully met all of the challenges and unique needs of our agency. Paycom is also the only solution that met every implementation deadline. From sales through implementation and on to long-term support Paycom is simply a great product and a great team to work with.

Recently, based on their reported human error and lack of knowledge about key employment tax issues, they filed an unauthorized (and grossly inaccurate) payroll tax return that has created a huge mess for us with the IRS. The MANY hours required to resolve their error is on us. Based on the continued terrible customer service we receive, I reached out to their CEO and Chief Sales Officer nearly a month ago but they've not responded.

As an employee at our firm, I can describe how I use it regularly and how my colleagues use Paycom, as well. I like seeing into my tax withholdings and adjusting as needed. One of my favorite features is the year-to-date pay stub view so I can track my earnings, my bonuses and their percentages, and my dependent care benefits

Paycom streamlines our payroll process and makes it more visible to employees like myself. I love the real-time access I have to my payroll information and the way I have visibility into what I'm withholding, taxes, etc. which helps me proactively plan my budget. As a growing organization, we continue to onboard new employees and I think many expect this type of instant access to their data. Our workforce is younger, as well, and many are already using their mobile devices for everything, so adding them to the Paycom process was seamless. I love how easy the app is to use, as well. I think providing Paycom to our entire workforce democratizes the payroll process and gives everyone access to valuable info like our paycheck.

Paycom has been great for me as an employee when I've been curious about my payroll information and I had real-time access to it. We have several different benefits as a company such as dependent care, expense reimbursement, and regular bonuses. In the Paycom app, I can see everything in one clear location and understand my earnings in a more concrete way. This makes me more confident in my financial understanding and gives me tools to plan for the future, as well.

I love also how secure Paycom is. Pay/data security is important to me. I use two-factor authentication on all apps and logins where possible, and it makes sense to me that it would also be part of the process when accessing my payroll info. I love the authentication that goes into accessing the app; it makes me feel like my sensitive data is secure. I enjoy how accessible my information is with the Paycom app. I rely on apps on my phone for many services and products, so it's cool that I'm able to access my pay information via that medium as well.

We were in communication with Jordan at Paycom. We were sold on ease of use, comparability and cost of our provider at the time, Paychex. We were told the website was much easier to navigate because Paychex was created and added onto multiple times. I can say the was 100% FALSE. Paycom is not only hard to navigate there are many areas that are redundant and it is hard to figure out where to find things because of unusual labels. We were told that the service was similar to my service at Paychex, that was false. We were promised a seamless onboarding, that was 100% FALSE. It was awful. All the tax rates and payrates were wrong. We would have been better off inputting it ourselves. Horrible onboarding process. I had them set up three companies, all of which I regret. They forgot to mention that auto drafting payroll is VERY DIFFICULT with Paycom. They not only require multiple documents both called VODs but two separate things, cause that makes sense. After two payrolls (which Jordan said that's all it would take) we still are required to wire funds (which completely took away any savings we had switching). If you are a small company and have an easy payroll process I highly recommend staying with your current provider. Don't use Paycom. We decided to switch (after paying $800 onboarding) to QBO Payroll. Super simple, had all three payrolls auto drafted and complete, deposited into employees accounts within 24 hours. WHY WHY WHY!! Paycom makes it way way too complicated and way too expensive.
Paycom has never lived up to what we were sold on.

Paycom is an all-around workforce tool for us. Payroll, employee benefits, time management requests, expense reporting, employee management, self-management, and more. From the personal side, the benefits of the multiple tools available have helped me place everything I need to know in a central location with an easy-to-use format. On the professional side, I have the ability to manage all aspects of the employees under me in one place. The time saved not having separate accounts for expense management, payroll, org charts, and more is exponential.
  • Expense reporting is easy and has the tools needed to be very functional.
  • Employee management puts all of the needed day-to-day tools at my fingertips in one location.
  • Managing through my self portal is great. Easy to use functions to look at or change all of my personal employee data and time management.
  • Editing time cards submitted incorrectly is a bit awkward and could be easier.
  • Entering hours worked into the timecard for employees continues to confuse them and editing them as a manager is a pain. Please simplify.
Aside from some smaller issues, Paycom is a good software. Whether you are a new and growing business or already established, Paycom puts all of the employee management tools you need into a single space. Training videos and customer support to help understand functions are available to pretty much for anything you need.

I use Paycom to run payroll for over 50 employees who work in the restaurant. That includes hourly and salary for the back dept to the front dept. It includes credit card tips. The only issue I have found is the invite email to employees to set up Paycom for their clocking in and out. Paycom is an excellent payroll software program.
  • Timecards are efficient.
  • Payroll is always on time even non-direct deposit checks.
  • Paycom employees are very efficient and always right there when you need them.
  • The software program is easy to work with.
  • There is always ways to improve but at this time I am happy with the payroll software.
I have not found less appropriate scenarios, of course payroll software can improve, but I am happy with the payroll software.

We not only use Paycom for payroll but also onboarding of new employees and for certified reports. The report features make it very easy to pull detailed reports in no time. The management of employee benefits and open enrollment reduces the amount of paper and provides an easy way for employees to update not only their benefits information but also their personal information without having to take the time to contact Human Resources to do it.

  • Having someone available for those in Eastern Standard Time that start at 7 AM
  • Certified Payroll reports need some adjustments to make more user friendly
The process of transitioning from a different payroll company to Paycom was seamless. The Project Manager and team were awesome. We knew what to expect each step along the way. In addition, the support continued until they knew we were comfortable with the process.
