  • Strategy/decisioning engine has strong analytical capabilities.
  • Handling of null in strategy is an issue.
  • Limited data transformation ability.
  • Limited reporting/visualization capabilities. Would like to see better functioning of VBD.
  • Latency issue.

  • Out of Box Reporting
  • For new developer its hard to get used to PEGA terminology and lingo (esp. developers switching from Java, .NET Background) - Need better initial training.
  • Better analytics capabilities and seamless integration with other advance reporting tools.
  • It would be helpful if the UI designer was WYSIWYG.
  • API Integrations options are limited - Streaming support was missing.

  • Pega uses web 2.0 concepts and the user interface is nice and easy to use.
  • The business logic using strategy and workflow is very intuitive for maintenance and business control.
  • Pega 7 abstracts technical details very effectively and developers don'y need rigorous technical know-how to start implementation.
  • There is little scope to inject native code to implement an intricate requirement.
  • Complex analytics calculation on datasets that require good data manipulation capabilities are not easy in Pega.
  • Version control and ruleset management in Pega is not very mature with significant scope for improvement.

  • Development can be fast once you establish a consistent, agile rhythm.
  • It's extremely easy to start mocking up a new application during DCO sessions and initial meetings. Clients can immediately see what the application could look like which helps with buy-in.
  • Pega 7 has the ability to connect to and integrate with other systems. Currently we are focusing on connecting to our legacy systems but plan to integrate with applications like Oracle in the near future.
  • I felt the training offered through Pega wasn't sufficient to really get started. I'm not sure if it's because of how our department uses Pega or if the courses didn't go into enough detail.
  • As someone still learning how to do development in Pega, I find it extremely difficult to pinpoint why I am getting errors. I think there needs to better and more clear documentations of errors and how to fix them.
  • There are very few online resources for troubleshooting issues in Pega. I believe there is a section on PDN that allows users to enter questions. The one time I've used it I don't think I ever received a response.

  • Intent driven UI provides a powerful tool to show users what is relevant for them to get their job done
  • Split Schema makes Pega upgrades very easy without much impact to existing applications
  • Support for HTML 5.0 and responsive UI has enabled developers to create high quality User interface with Out of the box pega controls.
  • Integration with deployment tools like Jenkins and source control systems like Git
  • Need more support for Big Data
  • More support for analytics

  • Tightly coupled business rules engine
  • Ability to delegate control to business users
  • Ability to integrate with almost any external application
  • Easy to build complicated workflows
  • Developer pool not as deep as needed
  • Learning curve is fairly steep
  • Cost is sometimes prohibitive for building smaller applications

  • It is able to build a process pretty quickly and make an executable application. It gives business users a good visibility of the process
  • It manages to synergize the BPM and BRE very efficiently within a tool and makes architecting of a business process easy
  • Case management is a very strong component of PegaRULES and can handle very complex processes fairly simply by breaking them into smaller components(subcases) yet maintaining visibility of the overall process
  • It is fairly easy to write and rewrite code; it is built for change and more attuned to support agile development
  • Performance Analysis is very UI-specific; it is difficult to get performance matrix of Service call
  • Locking mechanisms have lot of restriction
  • Upgrading from one version to other is always very cumbersome and bug ridden

  • As a framework, the product provided rapid application development and implementation for the business. I could take programmers with any level of Java experience and they could be up and running fairly quickly. We were able to respond to business issues quickly and provide functional updates in a much quicker time frame.
  • Support from Pegasystems was excellent, in my experience. They were quick to respond and knowledgeable in helping us get back on our feet during any issue.
  • While the Pega community is small, it is passionate about the tool. I had the chance to attend the Pegaworld event in 2013, and was excited by the possibilities and quality of the user community.
  • Performance was a constant issue for us, and we had to spend an immense amount of time in tuning our applications to meet the user's needs. DO NOT install this application in a separate data center than where the database is being housed. Because of the very heavy nature of the data driven elements (including content page assets), you must co-locate the application servers with the database servers. We learned this the hard way.
  • While it was great for individual department team use, we found the applications did not run well in an enterprise environment. Again, I think it was due to the heavy data driven nature of the base architecture.
  • At the time of use, the ability to secure someone with any kind of Pega experience was extremely difficult. This resulted in a need for highly paid consultants. We constantly invested money to train internal developers on the Pega products, only to quickly lose them to competitors. While our company's inability to retain talent was not a Pega specific issue, it is a watch out to management looking to use the tools. Ensure you have training in your budget and the necessary merit increases to retain the talent.
  • At the time of my team's use, there was some concern with the financial viability of the company. I'm not sure that this is still an issue, but the product is very expensive. Therefore, a solid investigation into the financial status is necessary to ensure you are not investing in something with a high risk of changes to its support structure.

  • Pega has a variety of products to support claims processing; we use as a rules engine which helps us to drive our own business rules and make it as a complete rules processing system
  • It does provide health care frameworks, which comes up with pre-configured rules and decision making systems
  • The versioning and code repository is big plus with Pega as we do not depend on external versioning tool
  • The rule comparison is nice to have, but currently we don't have ability to compare one rule with a previous version to see the differences
  • To delete multiple steps in an activity in one single click
  • The documentation is not clear, sometimes it is missing key elements or has incorrect information

  • Assign work, system has flexibility to assign work based on rules or let manager do it
  • Flexibility of designing flows
  • Integration with Java & Javascript
  • Access Control: not easy to limit developers to part of system. No easy "read only" access for troubleshooting production.
  • SMA and Node info & agent: not easy to know at glance on which node an agent is running. If agent not running on that Node the sma should not display the agent since status is incorrectly displayed.
  • Limited out of the box report tools: BIX has limitations and need bug fixes. Data is mostly stored in blob, efficient way to use but not suitable for reports without extracting it.

  • Ability to partner and understand our organizational needs and challenges to determine the right solution fit
  • Provide industry specific solutions and resource knowledge

  • Rapid implementation
  • Available frameworks for various industries like insurance, banking etc.
  • Product is business focused rather than IT
  • You still have to get the requirements and implementation correct in order to get maximum value out of the product, often missing functionality is a result of lack of requirements not discovered upfront.
