We are using Percona Server for MySQL along with other solutions oriented to managing NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and others oriented to documents such as ElasticSearch. This tool complements other tools in order to complete the lifecycle of applications and measure their performance in different environments.
  • Faster than other server solutions
  • Installation and configuration process is easy from the user's standpoint
  • Easy to learn and good support
  • The performance and throughput can be improved in big databases
  • Documentation for the end user can be improved
  • The server time response can be improved since it can be a bit slow when you are doing multiple requests in parallel
It is a good tool to carry out tests that measure the level of effectiveness of the database and it behaves well when, at the project level, we need to process large volumes of data in a massive way.

It is not an optimal solution for applications oriented to the distribution of data between different machines.
  • At the performance level, it maintains and even improves other open-source databases such as MariaDB or some commercial ones such as Oracle.
  • If we compare it with MySQL, we could have up to 50% improvement in performance.
  • For some small companies or startups, the price of the complete solution and the support can be a bit high.
It is a solution that complements those mentioned, and if we know the ecosystem of Percona tools, it is easier for us to learn the different options it offers.

Percona Server for MySQL is being used by the technology department for storing information regarding our customers, products, and other entities.
  • High availability
  • Great security
  • Enterprise-level features in the fully open-source version
  • Easy to install and use
  • UX can be improved
  • Needs better documentation
  • Pricing can be a bit of an issue
It is well suited for setting up reliable and secure database servers with all the advantages of an RDBMS.
Like every RDBMS, horizontal scaling could be a problem for Percona.
  • We could cut the server cost
  • Improve security
  • More stability

Yes
We replaced MariaDB with Percona Server for MySQL.
We could get the features of an enterprise server without spending any money on it.
I probably wouldn't change anything.
One needs to pay for support.
It is easy to install and use. Using it along with Percona Monitoring and Management makes it even easier to use.

We migrated to Percona Server for MySQL from another database solution, postgres. I lead a startup team, housed within a larger organization, and presently Percona Server for MySQL is used for our team. We are working on an EdTech product, and Percona Server for MySQL is used to store, analyze, and work with user information. Our aim is fast querying, easy deployment, and good support.
  • Excellent performance
  • Fully free and open source
  • Additional tools also available for easy expansion
  • Better documentation
  • A better UI
A modern day MySQL/RDBMS solution, where scalability is a pain point, logging is critical, performance is a bottleneck, and you're going to mostly work with the cloud. While it's relatively newer as opposed to more traditional offerings, it is catching up fast in features and support
  • Increased efficiency with faster querying
  • Easy scalability
Good community support.
Keeping in mind the easy scalability and deployment, it deserved this rating.

Percona Server for MySQL is being used as a primary OLTP database in my current organization. We are using it across the whole organization (across the group of companies). Percona Server for MySQL is solving our problems to store and retrieve data in a high transactional environment.
  • Feature Rich: Percona Server for MySQL always has some additional features on top of MySQL.
  • Performance improvements: Additional performance
  • Integration with Native and Community tooling: It supports all native and community developed tooling for MySQL
  • Regressive performance test: Currently we are relying on MySQL's load testing. Percona should have its load testing result.
Percona Server for MySQL is best suited for any RDBMS workload(OLTP/OLAP). It's a drop-in replacement of MySQL. As of now, it lacks inbuild HA feature.
  • Ease of use
  • Scalability
  • Performance
  • Community tooling Support
  • Cloud native
Percona Server for MySQL Stacks up against all of these competitors. We choose Percona server for MySQL due to these reasons: open source, community support, scalability, and vendor locking. We were looking for an open-source database that is scalable and supported by the community.

We are using opensource so we have not used customer support.
It's a perfect solution for any RDBMS requirement (OLTP/ OLAP). People always have some misconceptions about opensource software. It's performant, scaleable, and reliable.

Percona Server for MySQL is being used across our whole organization. We are running 50+ primary instances in our data center with DR replica's running on compute instances inside GCP in 2 different regions. Percona Server for MySQL solves our need for well-tested and stable MySQL instances with Percona doing additional testing to the upstream releases which gives that added level of stability that we need for the massive volumes of processing as well as the required performance in sharded instances.
  • A distributed database offering to scale writes with native sharding. Currently we make use of sharding managed by the application to scale writes. There is the option to place ProxySQL in front of the shards, but we need a true cloud native distributed option with an easy migration path. I would not say this is negative in terms of Percona Server for MySQL, but if Percona had a distributed database offering at some stage, we would follow Percona.
Percona Server for MySQL covers 100% of our requirements in terms of our OLTP traffic and provides the High Availability levels required through a typical primary and 2 replica's using semi-synchronous replication. We're able to scale our writes using sharding, but a true distributed database would be a great option on top of this. In terms of OLAP traffic, we leverage columns stores available, but Percona Server fairs well.
  • Percona Server for MySQL is open source with no hidden licensing costs which gives us huge savings on the high number of instances that are required on premise and in the cloud.
  • Large community support
  • Percona offers additional open source tools to support Percona Server for MySQL
Performance and stability sets Percona Server for MySQL apart from the rest. Percona embraces the upstream version and contributes towards the upstream version making MySQL stronger on two fronts and thus having a much larger community. Many quality contributions have been made by Percona into the base code.
Percona provides great tools to support Percona Server for MySQL and this makes the monitoring and management easier.
Plenty of help in the community forums and bug tracking, so it is easy to follow the progress of a bug or find solutions to the problem. Percona Server for MySQL releases are frequent and well documented and improves with each release.
Percona Server for MySQL remains fully compatible with the upstream release and therefore there is no vendor lock-in when migrating to Percona Server for MySQL. You are able to replicate into and out of Percona Server for MySQL from the upstream releases. We have many clusters that sometimes requires a different solution and being able to easily integrate with Percona Server for MySQL is key.
