Plangrid allows us to manage project documents far more efficiently than otherwise would be possible. Using an iPad in the field on commercial construction projects, we can have all project documents in one place, up to date, and easy to find instantly. This has improved communication with our subcontractors and allowed us to instantly answer questions that would otherwise take time returning to the site office and combing through drawings, submittals or RFIs. Plangrid saves times, cuts costs, improves communication, and increases quality by having all documents at the field's fingertips.
  • Hyperlinks are fantastic for ensuring RFIs, sketches, and other changes are electronically posted to drawings so all users have the latest and most current project documents.
  • Overlays/sheet compare are great for comparing changes in drawing revisions and overlaying floor plans to check for conflicts. PlanGrid does this particularly well. The process is easy.
  • Issues list have dramatically changed how we handle QC on the job site. Issue creation, tracking, and generation of issues lists for subs have allowed an easy and concise way to create, maintain, and enforce to do lists and correct defective work with subcontractors.
  • Some of the notation tools can be cumbersome to use on Apple devices. It is hard to be precise. A snap to feature would be great.
  • Perhaps due to limitations by Apple, the camera button is small and hard to use on iPhones. Often I need to take photos one handed while holding a tape measure in my other hand. Increasing the size of the on screen camera button would really help.
  • More robust issue filtering on Apple devices would be nice. It can be difficult to navigate thousands of issues in the field on an Apple device with only a basic search function. Having the ability to filter issues like on the Plangrid website would be ideal.
Plangrid is great for the field. It works well on iPads and the like and is fantastic to have while walking a job site, running crews, or coordinating trades. Having all project documents at the ready while walking with designers, owners, inspectors, etc. saves significant and prevents costly errors in construction. Plangrid really excels in the field. It is not particularly well suited to estimating, take offs, complex drawing notations, etc.

We are a small electrical contracting company. We use PlanGrid on occasion to provide plans to our lead personnel in the field. It works nicely if we have updated plans, we can add the updated plans that they can access before we can get them hard copies.
  • Provides quick access to updated plans.
  • The ability to send RFI's and plan markups with questions from the field is a very important feature.
  • The use of PlanGrid during the punchlist walk through gives the ability to know precisely what needs to be done as well as exactly what the location of each item is.
  • Provide Android functionality quicker.
PlanGrid works well for getting out revised plans quickly to the field personnel.

We use plangrid many different ways in our office. Our production staff and sales staff use it for meetings. We download the drawings using plangrid and then use it to take notes right on the plans during meetings with clients. Our construction administration staff use plangrid for site observations. The speed at which you can move through the drawings makes it ideal for what we do.
  • The speed at which you can move through the drawings and zoom in and out is amazing.
  • You can customize the punch lists for what your company standards are. This is great for doing observations and making reports standardized through out the company.
  • The sharing of the same job between multiple individuals is great.
  • There is nothing that I would say they need to improve. If I have an idea, they usually try to get it incorporated if multiple individuals request it.
Anytime I go to a job site, I tell them about plangrid if they are not using it. I have about 4 construction companies that started using plangrid after I introduced it to them.

PlanGrid is currently being used within our company to deliver up to date plans, specifications, and addendum between our office an supervisors in the field. We currently have three subscriptions of PlanGrid. One large subscription (5000 pages) for the main office to upload all documents for ongoing projects, and two smaller subscriptions (500 pages) that are utilized by our in field staff. The in field staff manages their downloads based on the projects they will be on over the next few weeks. PlanGrid has greatly reduced the time it takes to get accurate information from our estimating/project management staff out to our field staff, and eliminated costly errors generated from working off old project documents. In addition it helps keep the office staff aware of any issues on site during the course of our daily operations. The foreman is able to send RFI's, document damaged or incorrect work, and provide daily as built markups so adjustments to scheduling can be made as required.
  • PlanGrid gives us the ability to maintain the most current set of drawings for a project. When plans change the user still has the ability to review the old version to determine where and why something has changed.
  • PlanGrid lets the user include PDF documents for the project without using up the number of sheets in the subsctiption. This allows us to provide the field staff with specifications, addendum write-ups, and other internal documents our company uses to make sure things are done correctly the first time.
  • PlanGrid allows our users in the field to submit RFI's, document issues, scale drawings, and provide daily markups of the work completed. This keeps our office staff informed of what is going on in the field and make adjustments to increase productivity and profitability.
  • PlanGrid lacks in the scaling/measuring of plans. We would like to see an improvement in setting up the scale for a sheet and make it easier to measure in ways other than a straight line.
  • I would like to see PlanGrids sheet recognition improve when uploading plan sheets. Sometimes it picks up the plan number and title, but not consistently.
PlanGrid is a useful tool for contractors both small and large. It is easy to use and helps with production and profitability.

Our company is using PlanGrid nation-wide.

We use it on our iPads to document changes, show RFI's, do existing conditions reports, and help subcontractors with layout.

We keep all the submittals as attachments so you always have everything you need right in your hand at any time. It makes it so much easier to cross reference drawing and items such as Millwork shop drawings or Appliance Submittals to verify clearances. It's one of the best tools we have in the field.

  • It's great for Layout because you can get measurements with the scaling tool then have Architects verify on Layout approval.
  • Using it to store all the submittals and ASK's from everyone is really useful when you're walking around and want to be able to verify that something is going to fit or make sure needed clearances are being meet.
  • Best tool for doing existing conditions report because you can mark right on the drawings where there is a problem and even take pictures to prove the existing damage and its all kept together.
  • Overall it make my day a lot easier.
  • I would like to be able to save a page as an update without having to keep everything on the original plan.
Overall it's the best tool we have in the field. It saves time and makes it easier to show subcontractors where there may be problems that needs to be addressed without fumbling through a lot of drawings and submittals.

For Construction Management, Tracking, and Communication. It was used at a Project Level. It was a good tool for us to document changes in the field and communicate them more effectively. It also helped with tracking progress as well as identify and close out issues.
  • Drawing Rendering & Clarity
  • Issue Tracking
  • Innovative Functionality: adding pictures, notes, statuses, and the ability to take all the info and generate a report
  • The ability for other document control sites to link to PlanGrid, i.e. when a new drawing is issued to a site it has to then be updated on PlanGrid as well. Basically it doubles the time for document control. Would be beneficial if the PlanGrid storage page could be linked to other document control sites like ACONEX, Constructware, etc.
  • Hiding default settings that don't apply to my work.
  • Price and Limited plan options.
Construction and design are great opportunities to utilize PlanGrid.

Plangrid is being used across the company. Key elements of PlanGrid for me are ease of use, organization, updates, and the ability to maneuver through the plans from detail to detail. Time savings is addressed very well by implementing PlanGrid subcontractor wide on projects. We are all looking at the same page.
  • User friendly, from a classroom training for PlanGrid to the PlanGrid videos online to help something forgotten or learn something new.
  • However spending time using PlanGrid one can pick up on quite a few "tricks."
  • Punchlist with PlanGrid is great, taking pictures and putting them right on the floor plan is easy, and eliminates wasted time searching what room what picture went with. You can also note that it is a completed item for tracking.
  • PlanGrid is great for running around the job site with an iPad and getting needed information from the plans on the spot, makes answering questions a lot easier and faster during these busy days.
  • PlanGrid is one of 3 apps I have used, I honestly cringe thinking about the other two apps. I think PlanGrid does a great job trying to improve themselves, I don't know what I could add.
Great for all sized projects, great for punchlist tracking. A great app to get all team members on, eliminating the errors caused by looking at non current drawings, or not receiving the updated version via email junk file location errors.

We use PlanGrid to manage the construction administration phase of our projects.
  • PlanGrid allows us to easily track drawing updates throughout the project process.
  • The ability to comment and include photos, keyed into the plans, allows us to communicate with the contractor in real time to resolve construction issues as they arise.
  • PlanGrid is the most effective way to manage the creation, evaluation, and resolution for punch lists that we have found.
  • Sheet number recognition can be improved to streamline the upload of large sets of drawings.
  • Including a function to allow collaboration - similar to Basecamp - would be helpful. That would allow PG to be used in all phases of project development.
It is best suited for the punch list phase of the project. It is less appropriate during the design phases of a project.

We utilize PlanGrid in the field. All of our superintendents have iPads and use PlanGrid on a regular basis to access project documents, drawings, etc. PlanGrid helps the office get pertinent project information to the field immediately. We have definitely reduced our costs associated with plotting drawings.
  • Has great software / programming for naming drawing sheets.
  • Online support is great.
  • Helps transmit information to the field instantly. No more hard copies.
  • PlanGrid is constantly changing / improving features within the software. Change is usually a good thing however, once you get familiar with a feature or program functionality, they change it! Can be a little frustrating.
  • Cost!
All in all, PlanGrid makes my life easier as a project coordinator. I am able to get information to our field in a timely manner. I am able to grab the latest and greatest drawings in a jiffy and share a link with our subcontractors or save the information directly to my computer, if needed.

I used PlanGrid to manage and implement construction plans during the building of tenant improvement spaces for clients we worked for. Our company used PlanGrid on a project by project basis. I felt that PlanGrid addressed issues for smaller projects that we needed to make changes and markup on the fly with regard to tenant improvement spaces and undefined scope from the clients.
  • Easy to use interface, primarily for use on iPad.
  • Load project quickly when accessing from the cloud.
  • Ability to auto read the drawings and complete hyperlinks.
  • The cost to use PlanGrid is on a per sheet basis that can be cost inhibitive, especially on smaller projects.
  • More capabilities to make edits to documents other than construction plans.
PlanGrid is well suited for construction projects that require daily input from field users as the interface on an iPad is very intuitive and efficient. PlanGrid works well for projects that need to be well documented and shared among other team members and clients alike. Overall, I am satisfied with the overall experience of using PlanGrid.

We use Plangrid to handle drawing management on our jobs. It is a simple to use yet powerful solution that saves all involved tons of time. Our users are PM's, Supers, Project Coordinators, and external parties (subcontractors, architects, engineers, and owners).
  • Drawing management (versioning, auto-hyperlinking, auto-naming)
  • Markup communication system is very flexible
  • Plangrid is the easiest and best way to get current drawings onto an iPad for field workers
  • RFI tool is still very basic
  • Enterprise admin capability has been lacking but is improving
  • Interfacing with other systems is still fairly difficult
Plangrid is well suited for a job where the field workers have an iPad or PC where they can always view the most current set of plans.

PlanGrid is used on almost all of our projects. Document management and drawing management are the most important functions we use it for. We like to incorporate all the project team into the cloud based interface to communicate the construction and design. All designers, subcontractors, and owners' stakeholders usually are invited into the project team.
  • Plangrid's automation functions for naming drawings are impeccable.
  • Plangrid's packet reporting function is great for locating photographs of field conditions. We use to create RFIs and document field conditions.
  • Plangrid's punchlists are excellent for documenting and communicating the punch items to the project team.
  • Hyperlink function works very well for linking plan details to floorplan/elevations.
  • We usually link all supplementary documents (shop drawings, submittals, etc) into the the project cloud.
  • Model interfacing - would like to see PlanGrid house a modified model.
  • Better reporting structure - more custamizable templates.
  • RFI Log capability.
Plangrid is well suited for all project types and sizes.

Our pre con department uses Plangrids to upload and edit our plan sheets. It is easy to have them all in one place to organize and allows everyone to see the same thing.
  • Easy to filter
  • Editing is user friendly
  • Allows many sheets to be uploaded
  • Can be slow to upload
  • Can be slow to archive
  • Does not register the correct sheet names at times
  • Does not upload the sheets in order at times
For a large company it is good to have and is fairly user friendly for those not computer compatible.

PlanGrid is used by all project teams working on site during construction. As a general contractor, we use PlanGrid in the field offices to upload all project drawings, update those drawings with RFIs, and allow our subcontractors on the project to access and use those drawings freely on site using their iPads. PlanGrid addresses the problems of coherent communication and efficiency with drawing updates.
  • PlanGrid programmed the option of hyperlinking a document to an RFI to increase efficiency when viewing drawing updates.
  • PlanGrid organizes drawings and drawing updates in a clear way for users.
  • Plangrid is programmed to be used on iPads, which allows foreman and project managers on site to access any drawing on their iPad, instead of carrying around physical paper drawings.
  • Since PlanGrid is programmed to be viewed on the iPad app, the size of the drawing when viewed on a desktop is not maximized. There is a lot of unused space on the screen when viewing drawings on a desktop. This can be fixed by reprogramming PlanGrid to be used for both iPads and larger desktop screens.
  • I have had problems in the past with PlanGrid overloading and not being able to save my drawing updates. I had to switch between Google Chrome, Safari, and Internet Explorer to get PlanGrid back on track and saving drawing changes properly.
  • PlanGrid only allows you to cloud parts of a drawing in rectangles. Sometimes there are areas of the drawing I want to cloud that do not fit this shape without clouding a large and unnecessary space. An example would be perpendicular walls forming an L shape. To be able to cloud multiple shapes in comparison to BlueBeam, would make clouding more precise.
PlanGrid is well suited for projects that give all foreman, inspectors, and project managers iPads to allow them to view drawings freely anytime on site. I cannot think of a project scenario where PlanGrid would not be appropriate.

As of now PlanGrid is used by most all project teams. This program helps to ensure that project teams are always working from the most current set of project documents. It is also an alternative to conventional business software for issue and punch list tracking.
  • Project Drawings - upload new revisions to drawing sets and have them overlaid as the new current drawings. All the while you still have access to the previous versions.
  • Punchlist - Create, distribute and track issues from start to finish. Professional looking reports are a plus.
  • Attachments - Include sketches, submitals, specifications, RFI's etc. as attachments to drawings. You can hyperlink these attachments right from the drawings so you have access to all necessary project documents.
  • Attachments - If you have many attachments, they can get lost in the mix. PlanGrid is working on a new program to fix this.
  • Issues - If you have team members not using PlanGrid, you must first convert the issues to PDF and then e-mail them. I wish you could e-mail right from PG without the extra step.
  • Cost - Can get costly with multiple users. Should have enterprise discounts.
Well suited for any construction or design project.

PlanGrid is being used to upload project drawings, subcontractor scopes of work, job lists, etc., for use by field staff. All team members access PlanGrid to review the most current drawing revisions. The sheets that are uploaded are used as a means to mark as-built changes. The marked-up drawings are exported at the end of the project to be used as our Project As-Built Drawings (final project drawings).
  • When you upload a new revision to a sheet that is already on the site, PlanGrid automatically adds the sheet to the top and pulls any mark-ups from previous sheets to the new sheet.
  • PlanGrid is extremely user friendly with the opportunity to mark-up drawings in any way needed.
  • There are a variety of mark-up options, with a variety of colors and it is easy to distinguish which team members has edited which comment.
  • The main drawback of PlanGrid is the limit of 500 sheet uploads. We have had to upgrade most of our team members in order to let them upload more sheets for multiple projects.
  • The overall design of the website could be more modern (i.e. - bigger and more modern text/font and the PDF's created are very plain and need a facelift).
PlanGrid is a great tool for commercial construction as it serves as an efficient communication of drawings and project documents between the office and field. It can also be used as a tool to communicate with subcontractors, owners, architects, etc.

PlanGrid is used mainly as a real time communication aid between the design team and contractor and contractor and their subs. When communication fails so goes the project. When communication is managed in a way that everyone understands with a tool that is intuitive and collaborative, the project tends to go forward. We use PlanGrid to keep track of changes on a device that's small enough to carry around the job site and in the office at someone else's work station but also big enough for people to gather around and see. This makes construction documents portable. A manageable package is invaluable.
  • Punch lists are much more streamlined on PlanGrid as they can be issued as you're doing one.
  • Drawing reference anywhere on the job site or in the office is invaluable.
  • Screen shot feature lets you narrow down on a detail to note it up and get issues communicated and dealt with quickly.
  • Make desktop and iPad work flows the same or similar.
  • Produce punch list report for export from iPad for issuing in field.
  • Have field report function for iPad that is not a punch list that is issuable from iPad in the field.
For solving a complex problem, that would be better done in Bluebeam Revu session.

PlanGrid allows us to be incredibly mobile while still having access to up to date blueprint information. All employees at Novo use PlanGrid. PlanGrid has multiple tools that allow us to be extremely efficient on the job. Overlay is a new feature that I use often. In one situation I was able to locate where a roof leak was coming from by overlaying the RCP and mechanical roof plan. I found there was a leak near a newly installed curb for a package unit. It took me two minutes. We also use PlanGrid for punchlists. It's great for that. You can easily create an issues log and place pictures of issues right where they are on the prints. I would recommend PalnGrid to anyone who is involved in commercial construction.
  • Overlay feature. Allows you to compare two pages of prints.
  • Punchlists. You can take and place pictures right where they're located on the prints.
  • The ability to scale drawings greatly increases productivity.
  • I would like an internal "meassage board" type of feature. Where you can post a hot item that can be viewed by and alerts selected team members and subs.
  • I would like to be able to zoom in much more on the pages. This would make scaling a lot easier also.
PlanGrid is well suited in job planning and verification of work installed. I do not like to use PlanGrid in certain layout situations because the iPad screen is too small. As a foreman for a general contractor I like being able to walk a job and pull up details and plans on PlanGrid to answer sub's questions.
