What is Planview Portfolios?

It includes two components: Portfolio and Resource Management (formerly Planview Enterprise), and Capability and Technology Management (formerly Troux). The platform is available as a cloud-based or on-premise service.

Portfolio and Resource Management (formerly Planview Enterprise) connects strategy to execution by improving decision making across the enterprise, including product development, IT, and services. We have been a Planview customer since 1999 and have seen it grow and mature as a tool. We have looked at other tools and have found that PV continues to meet our needs and is easy for our resources to use. They work to stay up on the project management industry and the direction it is going, keep on on current technology so that we can work more effectively, provide excellent customer support and have great pricing for what they offer. We can purchase only the modules we need versus buying a tool where we would only use a portion of the functionality.

PV is good way of tracking spend, burn rate but this can also be achieved through in house applications which would in the long run provide better ROI.

Renewals involve a bake off between what you have and other products. Planview competes now with a number of smaller players who provide similar functionality at a reduced cost. While cost is a factor, I would say that it also depends on how wide and deep it is integrated within the organization. If it is just mis-used as time tracker, then most likely the renewals will be more difficult.

I give it a 5 in regard to renewal, only as a midpoint. On the likelihood of renewal, due to costs of changing, I would assume that renewal is an almost certainty. However, if polled about desire to renew or exploring other options - I would guess that a landslide opinion would be to explore other options.

PV needs to be more user friendly and although this has a good reporting mechanism would like to see options to generate various kinds of reports and also some kind of link to other project management tools (Project plan, Visio etc)
