In our organization, we are using Planview PPM Pro for Time tracking and project management. It's easier to track time with Planview PPM Pro as we can find Project codes and Tasks in an organized manner otherwise it's always a struggle to find out appropriate project codes and respective tasks. We can see reports also from the dashboard and can track our extra time. For managers, there is much more to explore with the reports for project management purposes.
  • Time tracking.
  • Project Management.
  • Assignment Schedule.
  • Interface is not appealing.
  • Improvement can be done on UI.
  • Much room is till there for improvement on Project Management.
Easy to use without much complexity. It is a one-stop tool for most project management needs. We can integrate external tools also though we are not using them at the moment. Reporting is overall good and all PMO-related reporting can be seen in the dashboard itself. However, UI is a bit old school and Financial management-related features are limited.

Planview PPM Pro features are easy tools to manipulate and its overall quality on project files and project collaboration is effective.

Planview PPM Pro is used to capture projects and initiatives through the lifecycle stage (ideation to execution). All details of the lifecycle are captured.
  • Ability to delineate information of initiatives.
  • Ability to enter information easily.
  • Ability manipulate custom fields.
  • Selecting custom views can be difficult.
  • Updating and modifying fields that have been populated are cumbersome.
  • Global editing would be nice.
Where initiatives/programs are tracked in a discrete way and many users have access to the information. It allows for free-flowing of information. where it is less appropriate is when information and format are highly constrained.

We have over 2000 active users from many different business areas addressing many types of projects. We are using it to solve the issues around transparency and financial justification.
  • Work intake with the request module.
  • Dashboards and reports with the latest release.
  • Financial reporting of capital and non capital expenses.
  • Tighter integration with their work collaboration tool called Projectplace.
  • Improve mass updating features when using more than one project category.
  • Include metrics around usage and adoption rates.
Best utilized with out-of-the-box functionality. Try to limit customizations unless you have a team to support them.

We use it to track all IT Project Requests and track IT labor against those projects. We track project portfolios by business unit. In addition to Projects we also track Administrative, Operational, and Small Enhancement activities. Also use it to manage resources - to see what percent they are allocated for current and future project tasks.
  • Portfolio Management
  • Labor Reporting
  • Resource Management
  • Reporting (but we are looking forward to Reports 2.0)
  • Field level security
Well suited for Project Portfolio Management - gives visibility to all portfolios and projects within. We are not using it for the individual project management activities - not as a methodology

Would like to explore the Project Request stage gate process/workflow.

We are using it to manage our major projects and portfolio, making it a central location for our global departments and Associates to track and update. This also allows our c-suite to have a view of what is going on with the company globally.
  • Organizing projects into a portfolio or category
  • The new reporting and dashboard tools is AMAZING
  • Drilldowns are great for going into the detail information
  • Creating custom fields is useful to help accommodate the variety of needs each department has
  • I wish there was a way to add a table matrix, to help populate or pull data for certain fields.
  • It does get frustrating or confusing to figure out if I need to go to Resources or User to look over a person's account
  • One of our external contacts had a hard time logging into a project, even though we were told it was possible to have that.
  • I wish we knew of an upload tool for helping update the resources in PPMPro, since many times people leave, arrive, or change titles
[I feel] It is most suited for waterfall project management, PMBOK project management process, and to have an overview of projects. But I wouldn't use it for agile methodology (Planview's Leankit tool is good for that!).

We are using it to manage our project portfolio, track project time for OIT, and to manage projects at a high level. It is also used for management reporting.
  • Reporting on Current, Future, On Hold projects
  • Allows for time tracking
  • Allows for filtering on projects, resources, organization
  • Being able to manage tasks at a more detailed level, and allow key project members to update easily
  • Hoping that R2D2 provides for easier set up/maintenance of reports
  • Some of the admin functions are not straight forward
Well suited for Portfolio management. Not well suited for project managment with details and allowing team members ease of updating.

[Planview] PPM Pro [(formerly Innotas)] is used to manage our portfolio of IT projects across the enterprise. It is also used for resource management and time entry. We use the tool to prioritize project work intake and monitor ongoing execution of projects. Reporting and dashboards are used to provide visibility to stakeholders and executive leaders.
  • The configurability of PPM Pro is the best I have seen in any of the PPM Pro tools I have used in my career. We are able to configure work flows that integrate into multiple PPM processes and integrate or isolate those processes with the others as needed.
  • The reporting capability is on par, and in many cases better, than other tools I have used. The ability to combine data elements and perform create unique calculations for reports is the best I have encountered.
  • The tools available for resource management are robust and provide great visibility into resource capacity and unfilled demand.
  • The integrations with the other tools in the Planview product line allow a full range of planning, management, and team activities in a format that suits the needs of each individual team.
  • The base API is not a REST based interface and is difficult to use for integration with other systems in the enterprise.
  • The UI for the maintenance of the task schedule for projects can be a bit cumbersome , although the spreadsheet style editor helps somewhat. The Gantt view is not interactive.
  • The workflow engine is designed only for initial project intake, and does not allow for an integration of the work flow with the project from start to end, so it can't be used for routing artifacts like change requests, ancillary project approvals, etc.
Overall, [Planview PPM Pro (formerly Innotas)] is simply the best PPM tool I have used in my career. Gartner says it is one of the best, and the use of the system bears this out.

Used by a department that manages strategic business plan projects across the organization. The tool allows for visibility and reporting of our projects to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Customer Support and Engagement
  • Continuous Monthly Product Upgrades and Enhancements
  • Easy system to configure and manage
  • Risk Management and Matrix
  • Request Scoring and Reporting
  • Trending Reports
Planview PPM Pro is good for smaller organizations looking to introduce more rigor in their project management framework/process. It has the ability to scale to handle more complex environments and has ancillary tools to support your way of working and collaborating.

Planview PPM Pro is used by IT in my company especially for capacity management and resource management. The challenge that we have in terms of managing the portfolio is arriving at the different projects within a portfolio and ensuring that the capacity that we have meets the need. When we do the portfolio planning, the tool helps us a lot in doing so, and from the reporting perspective, it provides a good overview of where time is spent as compared to what was planned, which I feel is key for a standard project and portfolio management
  • Capacity Management
  • Resource Management
  • TIme Tracking
  • Financial Management
  • Reporting
  • Dashboard
  • Agile Project Management
  • Integration with tool such as PowerBI
  • Connectivity to Azure DevOps/Jira
Planview PPM Pro is well suited for managing capacity, resource allocation, time tracking, and traditional project delivery. Planview PPM Pro has limitations when it comes to Agile project delivery.

We use it primarily for portfolio management and for resource allocations across our centralized IT division. We also do quite a bit of reporting to management and provide project status updates via PPM Pro. We track project requests up through the approval process when they are promoted to projects.
  • Resource allocations.
  • Project tracking.
  • Portfolio management.
  • Task management.
  • Agile projects.
This is great for medium to large projects. It may be overkill for smaller projects.

We use Planview in out IT and Project Management departments currently. We will be expanding to other departments soon. PPM Pro addresses simplifying project governance, tracking time, and reporting. The program has helped eliminate the need for manually updating our project portfolio. We were also able to eliminate manually updating time spent on projects into an excel spreadsheet. This has also helped with errors in reporting time on the wrong projects.
  • Customized reports and dashboards help to easily view projects
  • Capacity and demand reports help see staffing needs and if resources are over staffed.
  • In depth customer experience helps us build out based on our needs.
  • The search feature in Help could be improved sometimes it's difficult to find what I need.
  • The permissions can be confusing. Even after training sessions sometimes it is difficult to follow.
  • It would be helpful to have a log of reports and filters created. Ours got overwhelming very quickly.
It is excellent for reporting to Executives and managers. Very easy to visualize statuses, so if projects are over budget or out of scope. You can easily setup portfolios for different departments. It is great for seeing what your teams are spending their time on. You can also see if you need to hire staff.

It is being used by several departments, but not across the whole enterprise. We use it for status reporting to executives, some portfolio management, scheduling, project management, and some timekeeping. It helps ensure we have one location for the single source and updated truth about a project.
  • Allowing highlighting of milestones on an executive status.
  • Using reports and dashboards to create an executive view.
  • Project schedules online.
  • Needs task baselining.
  • It is very complex with all its capabilities and could use a way to simplify. For instance, using LeanKit, Pro and ProjecPlace together are not always clear for the best use.
Pro is best suited for traditional project management and scheduling. Dashboards and reports are very good for executive status reporting. Pro is less appropriate for large enterprise capabilities and agile work. Though more is being integrated from LeanKit all the time, which should address that shortcoming.

We use Planview PPM Pro (formerly Innotas) primarily by the Project Management department but is also being utilized across the whole organization. Mainly using this product for project and resource management. Utilizing the report and dashboard capabilities for visibility into projects and resource management.
  • Has robust reporting capabilities for transparency into projects and resource management.
  • Ability to customize project tasks again for transparency into projects.
  • Resource management allows oversight into particular resources and what they are working on.
  • Could have more/better reporting capability. That is currently being worked on to be released later this year.

[Planview PPM Pro (formerly Innotas)] is being used across the whole IT organization. It help with time tracking, project budgets, forecasts, reports and dashboards. Numerous other uses as well used for invoice reconciliation or managing expenses etc.
  • Customization of Reporting and Dashboards
  • Time tracking breakdown and visability
  • Permission profile setup based on roles and group settings
  • Customer Service for training or troubleshooting
  • Innovative way to refine current processes
  • Sharing new innovations new beta testing and sharing upcoming capabilities through Webinar
  • History breakdown for time tracking per timesheet
  • Bulk edit custom rates
  • Autonomous Time tracking through 3rd party inegration
  • API capability for custom setup
  • Option to have a training video on any new capability at the new page rather than searching for it though archives
Well - Suited:
Customization of reports for different department managers and needs
Automating reports for 3rd party vendors through dashboards without providing access to all information
quick access to project budget breakdown and setting up gateway to set up new project

Not so well-suited:
Complete integration with dev platforms like Rally without using a 2nd platform like Tasktop
Running multiple large dashboards with years of data and it slows down the platform itself
Cannot provide detailed breakdown of timesheet tracking when each time in entered

PPM Pro is currently being used in EchoStar's IT department. IT projects are tracked using PPM Pro as well as reporting to upper and senior management. The Accounting department is also using it to track their projects and report to their upper/senior management. We also use it for some time keeping.<br>Centralizing our project tracking solves the business problem of multiple applications being used.
  • Project planning and management
  • Resource management
  • Reporting capabilities
  • Time Tracking for resources
  • Highlights milestones for reporting to senior management
  • Dashboards
  • Creation of reports.
  • Dashboards. Creating dashboards should not be as complex as it currently is.
  • Permissions. The current way permissions are set up is also very complex and really does not need to be.
  • Task baselining
I like being able to access one area and get updates on projects, see where resources are spending their time. Reporting and Dashboards (once you are able to get familiar with them) are pretty awesome. We use the Dashboard feature to report to our senior management every Monday. It is also great for project management and scheduling.

We use PPM Pro across a few business units to manage work intake (Requests) and to track small to large projects (Project). PPM Pro allowed us to highly customize these entities for each of our business units and applications. We also have a few teams that take advantage of the WS-API access to automate data loads and to pull data into other internal applications.
  • First and foremost, the technical support has always been top notch.
  • We rely heavily on the integrations team and they provide great service.
  • Self-Service Admin really takes the product to a new level.
  • Great communication of product release features and roadmapping.
  • Dependent field logic would be a nice add and I know it's on their roadmap for 2021!
  • Ability to customize email notifications within the core product could be more robust.
PPM Pro makes project management very simple. We don't even take advantage of the financial tracking and force-to-load abilities of the product but we really like how we can customize the product to support such a varied set of applications and users.

We also just started expanding the use of Requests to manage work flow. The ability to establish different gates with different conditions and settings at each gate is terrific.

[Planview PPM Pro (formerly Innotas)] is being used by several departments in my organization (separately). In my department, we use Planview PPM Pro to plan for and manage our human resources across various projects.
  • Data visualization
  • Ability to integrate with other existing systems (e.g. Kronos for timekeeping)
  • Ability to customize reports
  • Faster response time with tickets
[Planview PPM Pro (formerly Innotas)] has been a useful tool in two major ways - it's a repository for historical data for our projects (budgets, staff time, etc.), and also gives us insight into planning needs for our projects into the future.

Our organization uses three Planview Applications (PPM Pro, LeanKit and Projectplace). Employees across the entire organization are using the applications; specifically for Intake and Prioritization, Portfolio and Project Management, Resourcing, Reports and Dashboards within the PPM Pro arena. Financial Management will be more formally used once we finish the integration in March 2021 and Earned Value Management shortly after that.
LeanKit is used across the organization for individuals, teams and departments, some departments are a bit more agile-like but not formally used.
Projectplace is our least used application but has a number of different uses that would be good to roll out over the next year.
The suite allows users the option of which tool best fits their needs in the project management space and we are looking forward to the Phase 2 LeanKit/PPM Pro integration to use the suite more fully.
  • High Level of Customer Service across the organization. Our organization is treated by Planview as a valued partner. Individuals at Planview go the extra mile to answer questions, assist with support tickets, assist with integration needs and more.
  • The success.planview.com website is a great resource and kept updated. The help guides, videos and search function allow individuals to answer their own questions - is definitely preferred by our busy employees.
  • The suite of products allows many strategic benefits across the organization in the portfolio and project management space.
  • Reports are a bit quirky given the different targets (organization, portfolios, projects, resources, etc.) and the different categories. For example when you want to combine different types of data in the same report and or filter it doesn't always work the first time. Additionally if you create a report at an organization level and want the same report at the project level - sometimes it doesn't work as one would expect it to.
  • Working within the task grid is slower than other tools and has some quirks. It has been very frustrating for users that put in their tasks and dates and then change the constraint type and all dates are then adjusted. The task grid could be a bit more user friendly.
  • Within PPM Pro, sometimes there is so much configurability that it takes time to do simple tasks and sometimes there is not enough configurability. Overall it just takes a bit of time to know which features have what options.
  • Adding actual time within tasks is not as user friendly as some other tools. It requires either each individual to enter their time on tasks or to use a time integration.
Overall I would highly recommend PPM Pro to a colleague and other other organizations.
PPM Pro is well-suited to scenarios where Organization wide (Department/Portfolio) KPI's and metrics are desired. The product allows for much customization within the various features, such as having many different project categories, portfolios, resource views, financial summaries, etc.
It takes a general user a bit more time than some other project management software programs to become proficient. So I would not recommend PPM Pro to colleagues that need just a few users to handle general project management.
