Procore is Easy to use!

Rating: 10 out of 10

Procore is a great tool for our clients in being able to manage their construction projects across the country. They are able to see into the projects and be up to date even though they are not on site.
  • Procore increases team communication.
  • The system holds personnel accountable.
  • It allows visibility into the project.
Cons
  • Always updating the system which can be good and bad.
  • Some of the challenging issues take a while to solve and you have to stay up on them to get them complete.
Procore works great in any type of construction project. We mostly use it for the telecom industry and the ease of the mobile app is necessary because not all of our clients are sitting behind a desk all day, they are out in the field all over, and Procore gives them the ability to manage their projects from anywhere.

We use Procore for document management (submittals, drawings, RFIs, specs, photos) and for safety/quality (observations, punch list, inspections). We do off-site construction so most of our work is in a manufacturing facility. Procore solves our problems of knowing which documents are current, provisional, void, etc. We also use extensively for tracking work to complete and quality with the observations and punch list tools.
  • Procore does punch list very well. Depending on how detailed you need to be, you can create, assign, describe, and photograph a punch item in 30 seconds. There are great setup options that allow you to have default assignees based on trade (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc) which makes creating the actual punch item very quick. The mobile tool also uses your phone's camera and has quick markup tools to circle or drop an arrow.
  • Drawings works well for us. We are a fully-custom design build company and we produce many type of drawings from SD, DD, Permit, IFC, shop, record and we use drawing areas to differentiate each of these different type/purpose drawings. This is a nice feature.
Cons
  • Procore needs the ability to markup specs like drawings. It also needs to be able to pin RFIs to specs just like drawings. All contract documents are a source for RFIs, markups, clarifications, etc.
  • Procore really needs to add a printing option. Right now, you have to download a file to print it.
It does very well for what we ask of it -- document management and quality/safety. Drawings, submittals, punch lists, observations are all nicely documented and arranged.

Unfortunately, the construction financials aren't very useful to us because there is no plugin for the accounting software we use (COINS). I would have liked to make better use of them but to use them would require creating my own duplicate set of project costs using our primary books. Other small shortcomings like having to download something to print it are sub-optimal.

A great and easy to use product

We use Procore as a Construction Management tool to keep track of our progress, financials, and materials within each job we have. Procore has helped us keep all of our documentation for jobs in one place that is easily accessible by all users [within] our company and outside companies that we chose to give access to.
  • Procore is great at helping keep track of Purchase orders.
  • Procore's time card allows your team to input and [keeps] track of time worked on each job.
  • Procore lets you manage and keep track of invoicing for Purchase Orders.
Cons
  • Procore needs some help with the ERP integration to QuickBooks.
  • I find that creating custom reports to be a little difficult.
Procore is well suited for keeping up with the day-to-day aspects of your project management.

We currently use Procore for Subcontract Administration and Daily Reports.
  • Connect field and office side.
  • Track changes.
  • I appreciate the Directory tool.
  • Support is very responsive.
Cons
  • Estimating portion would benefit from having a Subcontractor Database.
Procore is a useful tool if everyone on a team is required to use its functions. If all users aren't fully on board, many of the reports aren't accurate. Requires buy-in from all involved.

Why I like Procore and What Might Make it Easier to Use

Procore is used by Estimating, Project Management and project superintendents for daily tasks (submittals, RFIs, plan access, daily reports, photo logging, etc.). It is also used by subcontractors, owners (sometimes) and architects. We are not using it for production reports and find the schedule module difficult to use. We do use it for email distribution and communication with subs.
  • Plan processing is great. We love that it makes single sheets from big files and is easy to update to keep sets current.
  • The submittal process works well. Granted, we are not receiving submittals from subs through Procore, but we do send them to the design team and to subs for redistribution.
  • RFI processing is easy with Procore.
Cons
  • I am disappointed with how scheduling works. Is there a way to upload Microsoft project schedules that can be viewed by all?
  • Is there a way to go "back" when doing a new submittal or RFI? If I don't post/send and I need to check something else, when I go back I lose what I have created.
  • Is there a way to "select all" when sending emails?
For us, the system of processing plans, RFIs, and submittals are very useful and it provides logical next in sequence documents, logs, and reports. I am able to receive a set of plans, process them fairly quickly, and email them to all subs easily. RFIs and submittals are similarly processed.
