We use Progress Sitefinity as our CMS tool for our website as well as clients. Currently, just our marketing team and development team uses this tool as it keeps things streamlined and efficient. We use it to create websites. We've found that it helps successfully engage our internal team in developing successful websites.
  • Easy-to-use backend for developers, marketers, and creatives
  • Strong SEO tools for improved SEO optimizations
  • Lots of integrations
  • More integrations and easier to add as a marketer
  • Upgrade process is bulky and slow
  • Make advanced settings a little easier to navigate
It's a flexible UX platform that we really enjoy using. It allows us to scale the website as needed and this is a CMS we can grow with. You can edit code easily, as well as connect to many third-party integrations. The image library is a great tool that makes finding, resizing, and naming images easy.

We use Progress Sitefinity CMS for our own website across the entire organization. It allows our marketing people to quickly spin up pages and manage site content. It also allows us to personalize content based on personas and to analyze user behavior using Insight. We use it in conjunction with HubSpot to attract and track leads.
  • The interface for managing content and building pages is very intuitive.
  • The platform is extensible through custom modules, making it possible for our team to create any functionality we need.
  • Workflows make it easy to approve content before it goes live.
  • Insight allows us to assign personas based on user behavior and then customize content based on that persona.
  • I'd like to see more third-party integrations out of the box.
Sitefinity is well suited for marketing teams that need the ability to build landing pages and campaign pages that provide just the right amount of structure and the right amount of flexibility. When implemented correctly, marketers and content managers should only need developer intervention for significant site changes.

Sitefinity is less well suited for organizations with small budgets or that don't modify content on their site regularly.

We have implemented Sitefinity as the CMS of choice for various website projects. One of the huge considerations we have when choosing a CMS for our clients is the ease of use and the capability to integrate with external (3rd Party) systems easily. Sitefinity ticks both those boxes. It is extremely easy to use for our clients but still gives our developers the ability to customize where we need it. When used with the Digital Experience Cloud (DEC) that progress offers, it's an excellent marketing tool - top to bottom. We also evaluated the cost of Sitefinity against some other solutions and for the license and implementation fees, it was a no-brainer. Other CMS systems costing 2-4x as much could not compare.
  • Updates to the CMS software
  • Support on critical issues
  • Larger install base
  • Speed of support replies
It's great for a company that needs an easy to use CMS. The interface is very well thought out and organized in a way that you would expect. At the same time, because of how it's engineered - it's really easy to extend as you need. Integration with external data providers is possible and easy to do. The personalization and marketing capabilities are integrated - something that is not common in this price point. There is a licensing fee for the different editions of Sitefinity and that must be weighed with your project budget since this is not an open-source CMS. In my opinion, the license cost is well worth it having dealt with the costs and risks of using an open-source CMS.

We currently use Progress Sitefinity CMS across our agency. We use it for our main public facing website, we also use it for smaller programmatic websites and our intranet.
  • Drag and Drop Widgets
  • Creating Templates and Pages
  • Website Templates and Themes
  • Third Party Widgets and Tools
Progress Sitefinity is well suited for organizations that need non-technical users to maintain portions of the website without having to rely on IT for support. Progress Sitefinity is less appropriate as it relates to customizing existing templates with third party integrations.

We run our corporate website off a series of 6 total servers running Sitefinity. We utilize it across a few departments, Marketing and IT mainly. Sitefinity has been a very flexible, easy to adopt CMS. We launched a new website and CMS all at once and it was refreshing to utilize Sitefinity over our prior CMS system. Sitefinity is a clean, very user friendly, adaptable, feature rich CMS. Pricing is attractive, features are there, support is very adequate. We have a complex use case with 6 servers running Sitefinity and interacting with each other, and we're still trying to get a handle on simplifying the upgrade process - which has been our only minor hurdle.
  • Very flexible and easy to use to create new pages.
  • Customizable widgets allow for displaying data the way you need and want it to.
  • Simple to setup synchronization to additional servers.
  • Diagram or illustrate more use cases for server setups, and managing of upgrades.
  • I'd like to see the ability to synchronize from one server to multiple others at once.
  • Implementation assistance as part of the purchase rather than farming out to 3rd party, although they did answer every question we asked in order to determine our best architecture setup.
Sitefinity is a very cost-effective CMS system with the flexibility needed by a front-end developer while still being super easy to use by less code knowledgeable people. If you just had one server and database set up with Sitefinity it would be the simplest, and possibly adequate, setup. Adding servers complicates the upgrade process, the scheduling process, custom field additions etc. but having development, staging and production servers is worth the effort.

Super easy to generate new pages, news/press items, lists. A little more complicated to set up Salesforce and Sharepoint connectors.

It is used as a marketing front-end as well as to manage a registered user base. We have installed several different instances to take on different roles. As far as marketing is concerned, it's great to leverage the built-in SEO and forms for lead generation capturing. For managing registered users, we customize Sitefinity to fit our business model which was straight-forward to do.
  • Progress Sitefinity does a great job of staying on top of new and ever-changing IT security threats and patching for it.
  • Progress Sitefinity has great support for people interested in customizing their instances with a vast knowledge base that includes videos and white papers.
  • Progress Sitefinity is great at communicating and following up on any opened support tickets.
  • Creating an out of box cloud deployment experience to ease the deployment burden.
  • Improve on their developers using source control and automated deployment experience.
  • Go back to their upfront pricing as opposed to having to speak to someone.
At the current price point, Sitefinity is too expensive for a simple brochure or lead generation website. There are a ton of great options out there for this use case. It is great if your website will include various integrations to third parties or user management that requires complex scenarios that need to be accounted for.

We use Sitefinity as a CMS for our corporate website etap.com and several sub-domains for development. When we purchased the software in 2015, we found that we needed quite a bit of customization of which we rolled back a considerable portion because of our own learning curve of what you can do with Sitefinity. We tried to implement multiple-site replication for our Chinese office and other places, but found that the cost for multi-site licenses is expensive and we couldn't find the development and support staff to work with. Languages was another area where we struggled since workflows didn't work with language roles. Otherwise we have been using the CMS across the company with Marketing being the driving force for content and development.
  • Depending on the usage, it is pretty easy to work with page templates and build content widgets
  • Content syncing with SiteSync works great
  • Implementation of languages works well
  • Personalizing page with persona, country or other specific content works well
  • We are using release 9.2 right now and are in the process of updating. Using mail templates with forms is a important missing piece.
  • Better connectivity of the Digital Experience Cloud with the site content.
  • E-commerce, biggest disappointment! Apparently new integration with 3rd party available, but we specifically purchased Sitefinity to have an integrated e-commerce platform.
  • MVC page templates
  • User guides are very often not very user-friendly for non-developers.
  • Straight forward websites without e-commerce and a few languages - great.
  • You can develop your own modules/widgets and get most work done without needing a developer. You will need a consultant or developer for the initial setup and deployment.
  • Sites like ours, etap.com, with dynamically generated pages via API, languages, event management, etc. difficult.
  • E-commerce is so basic that it is hard to do any sort of customization. basic e-commerce tools are missing.
  • Release 12.0 however looks promising.

Sitefinity provides our financial institution customers with an easy-to-use content management platform. Our customers can make all of their day-to-day website edits, and Sitefinity's built-in "revision history" feature helps them to meet their unique financial compliance and regulatory needs. In addition, Sitefinity integrates well with online banking and application vendors, which is a must for financial institutions. Most of our customers do not have web designers or developers on staff and rely heavily on third-party relationships which can be costly. Sitefinity CMS makes the website management process easy, and to the point where they can manage their website independently of third-party relationships.
  • Closed-Source
  • Updated Regularly
  • Easy Drag and Drop Style Editing
  • Expensive for Smaller Organizations.
Sitefinity is great for those organizations without designers and programmers on staff, as the platform helps non-developers to quickly and easily manage their websites.

We work with a 3rd party vendor to implement Sitefinity CMS to host our organization website. The 3rd party does the development for us and we manage the content on a day to day basis.
  • Sitefinity is a stable environment. We don't have many issues with crashes etc.
  • Sitefinity has a good organizational structure.
  • On the front end, Sitefinity is fairly easy to use.
  • We aren't able to do customization on our own. The 3rd party vendor controls the back end code. This limits our ability to always do what we would like to do without calling in a 3rd party.
  • It might be helpful to have a "plugin" system, kind of like WordPress, that allows users easier access to a wider variety of functions without programming knowledge.
If you want to hire a third party to set things up and you want to just manage content or if you have people on staff who can do the heavy lifting with the programming languages involved, Sitefinity could be a good match. If you want to be able to do more than just manage content, but don't have the programmers to handle the languages involved (Microsoft), Sitefinity might be limiting.

Sitefinity is our member website backbone and connector to our database. It allows seamless control and security of our website and database. We are also using DevCraft UI for our latest database work on another platform. We are happy that two different vendors suggested using Sitefinity when asked.
  • Standardized user interface
  • Wide array of system interfaces
  • Ease of use
  • Ease of installation
  • I'd like to see a packaged installer, as opposed to installing each module separately

Sitefinity is used enterprise-wide to create content for the website. We are planning to use many of the features that we have not used yet in 2019. Solid software with great ease of use.

  • Digital asset management

It hosts the static site for the organization. It's the hub that moderates our business.
  • Easy to make on the go changes.
  • We can personalize messages based on a number of factors such as, location, times visited, etc.
  • Affordable.
  • We can make directional changes for the business without assistance from IT.
  • Client engagement is low. Ensuring that you get the latest and greatest version doesn't happen as often as I'd like. When you ask a question, you are usually referred to a SOW and not the actual services you paid for.
  • There is no Client Success Director to ensure we are properly using the product.
  • We could use training and that is not offered.
Sitefinity is well suited for an organization that does not want to wait on IT releases to make changes to their website. The product works well managing our digital content and users can easily pick up the basics. The product would be much better if the organization continued to communicate with our business to ensure we are successful and using best practices.

It's the digital content management tool we use to host our website for a particular part of the business and region. It holds our Americas materials website and we do not use it to generate leads but more to provide overview and insight for shareholders and interested parties into our organization.
  • Content management
  • Ease of use
  • Layout of back end
I think that Progress Sitefinity is well suited for a stable website. If you are having a website that gets little traffic and is not generating leads then Progress Sitefinity is great. I am not sure if the tool integrates with Pardot or Hubsport or even Salesforce, so I cannot speak to that capability. If it does integrate well, I think the tool may be competitive to other leading CMS platforms...

Sitefinity is being used to manage the website for some of our clients who have relatively large websites with large number of pages, and with many rich features. It's being mostly used by the marketing department to promote the products, offers, and services offered by the company.

Personalization is the key important feature for any new website. Sitefinity offers a simple but effective mechanism to make any page or content within the page personalized. We are using this feature for some of our websites where we need to target users based on their behavior, location, time etc. Here, Sitefinity play an important role to achieve our target audience. It provides many out of the box widgets, like News, Events, Cards, Rich text editor, and Image Gallery, which can be easily dragged and dropped on the page, and within minutes you can create a new page using any existing template. Also, for developers, it provides the flexibility to build custom modules and utilities API, which can be consumed by any frontend medium (mobile app, website).
  • Easy to use drag and drop widget, which allows CMS users to create new pages within minutes.
  • Easy to implement Personalization on any page or content within the page level.
  • The support Sitefinity provides plays an important role in achieving project target date. It especially helps during development; in case one faces any technical issues, their support team is highly responsive and guides you with best possible solution or workaround.
  • Not easy to upgrade to the latest version. If by mistake one deploys the latest version DLL, it changes the database and you cannot rollback to the old version.
  • The Export/Import feature is not advanced enough and randomly breaks.
  • By default Sitefinity stores some of the changes like labels, messages, and search index on the ‘File System,’ which causes issues when you have a load balance environment. There, you have to manually sync the file on all environments, which is not ideal.
  • Reporting. Currently Sitefinity does not seem to have native support for tracking website analytics; rather, it integrates with Google Analytics for showing website analytics in CMS, which creates dependency on 3rd party service. If there is any change in 3rd party service, it would directly impact the reporting in Sitefinity CMS.
Sitefinity is recommended to be used for websites which have large number of pages and rich content. Also, if you have enough budget, then better to go for the Marketing or Enterprise edition to utilize features like Personalization feature, Audit Trail.

Not recommend for any campaign based website, which last for short period of time.

I use Sitefinity with clients now to provide them a CMS solution that has a good user interface and a wide variety of features available "out of the box." I also use their available libraries and platform to add custom components or integrations for my client's unique needs. For those that need a .Net based proprietary CMS solution, I find it the best option available for the most reasonable price.
  • Intuitive and user friendly interface for creating and editing content.
  • Easy to implement additional features, such as a blog, news feed, or document repository.
  • Powerful library to extend your site with custom integrations.
  • Powerful ability to build customized templates and user controls for reuse on multiple pages.
  • Solution code does not play well with a standard source control mechanism such as Git. A few changes will be needed.
  • Creating custom widgets that are non-trivial takes additional time and effort.
  • Upgrading the platform can be problematic if the default tool doesn't work.
For those that need a CMS solution that is easy to manage and quick to get going, Sitefinity provides a great platform to fit these needs. If you require a solution that requires heavy customization, such as special blog post types or custom modules that function more as a web application, then Sitefinity might not be the best fit.

We implement Sitefinity solutions for our customers. These can be multi-site and/or multilingual.
In some cases, we also author and manage content for the sites.
  • Easily create pages & site structure.
  • Creating page content using the drag & drop widgets is very intuitive.
  • A lot of customization is possible
  • Documentation (especially for advanced concept) & support could be better.
  • Site start-up time.
  • Encountered several bugs during development.
Sitefinity is a very good solution for small to medium sized CMS solutions.
It's fairly quick to setup and content authors will find the UI/UX intuitive.

However, if you are looking for large enterprise solutions, scalable environments and/or a lot of integration with third-party software, Sitefinity might not really be what you're looking for.

Sitefinity is the provider for our website NVAR.org. It is used by the general public, more specifically by our 17,000 Realtors across Nevada. Sitefinity gives us an online platform to disseminate news and information about our association. It is a valuable tool for our staff to share information with our members and for members to interact with staff.
  • Sitefinity offers a platform that is user friendly. The ease gives us a better tool to reach members. More members use our website because it operates quickly and is easy to follow.
  • Sitefinity boasts a service staff that is easy to chat with and prompt. My emails are often answered within 24 hours. Next, after issues are discussed, follow-up work is prompt to find solutions.
  • Sitefinity's back-end for administrators is logical. It is easy to follow and makes sense. I am basically self taught and did so with relatively few frustrations.
  • While service staff is quick to respond, it is not real clear who should be our first point of contact, account leaders, techs who have helped us before.
  • I have had some frustrations with Sitefinity's analytics module. It will not work for us and I've been told the issue lies with our third-party vendor. That may be the case, however a Sitefinity programmer helped with a 'workaround.'
  • A few times, I've dealt with service staff who seemed to use English as a second language. When you are asking for an issue to be addressed, you don't want something to be lost in translation.
As the builder and provider of our website, Sitefinity has been well suited to our needs. We have either been able to meet our needs by changes made by our administrators or by working with service staff to address changes. I have yet to find a scenario where Sitefinity wasn't well-suited to handle it.

Sitefinity is used by our organization as the CMS of choice for both of our corporate sites. It allows our marketing team to make needed changes to pages in an easy to manage way. Further, it is also used in our suite of products because of its ease of use.
  • Page and template creation is managed very well.
  • Document management has good taxonomy abilities.
  • Very flexible branding and editing capabilities.
  • Multi-site management tools are very helpful for managing several sites.
  • SEO capabilities could be stronger.
  • Emailing capabilities are poor, although there is integration with leading emailing platforms.
  • Staging development environments and going live with sites can be cumbersome.
A very strong solution for mid-to-enterprise level corporate customers. The scalability of the different packages offers a wide range of appropriate scenarios. It is less appropriate for e-commerce scenarios unless a third party is used.

Sitefinity houses our company extranet and it is used by our customers, vendors, suppliers, and their prospects.
  • Sitefinity provides branding ability to put unique characteristics at our company website.
  • This gives the company a strong sense of identity internally and externally.
  • Sitefinity can improve their pricing negotiation process. It took us a couple of weeks longer than expected to reach a mutually agreeable price for our multiple year renewal.
Sitefinity provides the flexibility to work with third-party vendors to create a customized website. The integration goes seamlessly. On the other hand, companies need to be discreet in selecting any third-party vendor to implement their websites.

Sitefinity is used as our organization's intranet as well as our public facing internet site. It is one of our main communication tools for both employees and the general public. As a Microsoft shop, it was important for users to use a CMS based on the dot net framework so we could leverage our in-house development resources.
  • Once set up and configured properly, Sitefinity is quite stable.
  • Backend access for content editors is fairly straight forward.
  • The Sitefinity upgrade process is challenging. It breaks existing functionality with every upgrade. Improvements must happen.
  • Support is really bad, even with the enterprise version, which is expensive. You have to deal with overseas, non-native English speakers over email. Screen sharing tools such as webex is discouraged by charging extra for that functionality, which is surprising and very frustrating.
  • Authentication methods, while improved in recent versions, still doesn't support Integrated Windows Authentication.
It is fairly expensive and requires deep technical expertise to implement. Hiring a third party with lots of experience is highly recommended. Once properly implemented, it is quite stable. But if you need to make changes to code or templates, you better know what you're doing.

We use Sitefinity for all of our corporate websites. Sitefinity allows us to quickly spin up new sites, make changes and use custom features for all of our sites. We are able train new business users easily and give them the power to make content updates as needed. Sharing content and functions across our sites is also a big benefit.
  • Contains built in features and functions out of the box
  • Shares content well with all sites in multi-site
  • Easily sync content changes from test environments to production
  • Always seems to be some items with bugs or not working 100%
  • Offer more training videos and various certifications for all types of users
  • Improve documentation, help within the application itself
The site sync feature is one of my favorite functions. The ability to easily publish content from dev to test and to production is extremely valuable. No need to depend on a database restore to publish content. The built in functions are also a great item so that we do not have to custom build every feature nor do we have to attempt to find a useful function online from third parties and depend on them to update. Due to the cost of the higher versions, it is not feasible for smaller companies or websites to use.

We use Sitefinity as our CMS. It was suggested to us by our third party web developers who designed the site. As a CMS, it's fine but I think using a third party developer can really restrict your use - based on what templates they use and what kind of functionality they choose to deploy. I think there is a lot of functionality in Sitefinity we are not using because we are limited by website design and the prohibitive cost of contracting out to customize different modules to adhere to branding.

I think one feature I would like to see is being able to do A/B testing - they had suggested Optimizely but the current version of Sitefinity is not supported.
  • User interface is intuitive
  • In general the support from Sitefinity is good and attentive
  • Can be limiting depending on the site design
  • I'm not sure if it has to do with how the web developers implemented it but I think Sitefinity could improve their in-editor SEO functionality (for me, from what I can see, it is non-existent or at least not intuitive).
I think Sitefinity is a good general CMS. I think it's easy to use - my former colleagues had no problem updating their content and never had any issues with the editor. If you want a site that is a more sophisticated for automation, there aren't a lot of native solutions. You are better of implementing external tools for landing pages and forms.

We use Progress Sitefinity as the content management system for our corporate website, with our patients and community as primary users.
  • Flexible
  • Modular
  • Better social integration (but this could be that my version is old)
Decent content management system, very customizable. Not a good solution if you require a third party developer. Our vendor built our website through trial and error, which I think messed up the basic functionality of the product.
