What is Planview ProjectPlace?

ProjectPlace is the collaborative work management solution from Planview that brings teams together to get work done. Whether a team is down the hall or on the other side of the globe, ProjectPlace aims to provide everything needed to set direction, communicate, execute tasks, track progress, and ultimately achieve goals. A key value proposition is to be one tool designed to work together rather than a collection of point solutions.

The vendor says the the product is built with teams of all size and complexity in mind, from virtual teams of five to entire global enterprises with tens of thousands of active users. ProjectPlace can be started in minutes and scales as new team members join. Since work types vary, ProjectPlace is flexible to fit the job at hand – traditional projects, roadmaps or unstructured work where groups just need to “get stuff done”.

ProjectPlace is a great solution for our smaller projects. They don't need the level of detail that large corporate projects require. These smaller projects are usually smaller teams and more collaborative than our larger projects. We loved the kanban board, the agility of the product, and that communication was at the forefront. Notifications, work, files, hours, everything we needed in one place.
  • Collaboration
  • Communication
  • Pleasant Interface
  • Smoother integration with Enterprise One
It is suited for smaller projects or team work when the organization is not comfortable or used to agile/Kanban style tools.

Projectplace is being used across multiple divisions and global-operating companies to manage our R&D projects.
  • Document storage.
  • Kanban boards.
  • Conversations.
  • Projectplace completion of tasks has to be closed on multiple levels and don't automatically close the task in PPM Pro.
  • Add a "due this month" option in Boards, sorting by the due date. I would like to see not only what is overdue and due in the next two weeks.
  • Finished tasks still sort as overdue on the boards even though they are finished.
Projectplace is well suited as a tool to support quick project huddles for teams as it allows clear tracking and accountability of assigned tasks. I am less likely to use it when the project task list is overly detailed because it seems to work better in cases where the boards can be kept clean and at a high level.

Planview is used to manage projects, documents, persons working, and to interact with each other.
With the help of Planview Projectplace my organization is working efficiently by managing all things in one place. It is also accessible by every device, whether it be a laptop, mobile phone, or tablet. In the past, it was used on a trial basis by a few teams. Gradually it has been put into use by the whole organization. Also, teams located in different nations interact on it. In my organization, it is used in the English language.
  • It manages teams very well. Teamwork is the key to success and with the help of [Planview Projectplace], the job is done easily, without any hassle.
  • Everyone involved in a project can very efficiently view the progress or what's next in the pipeline.
  • The most enjoyable feature is the charts. With the help of charts, projects/teams become easy to manage.
  • Another particular feature worth receiving acknowledgment is kanban boards. With the help of it, visualization becomes so simple.
  • Sharing documents, because interacting with teammates is efficient with the help of it.
  • The most important thing is pricing. Big organizations can still afford to use it, but small startups or mid-level companies will have to think twice before choosing it.
  • User Interface (UI) is not as crispy as compared to other tools in the market. The UI can definitely be improved.
  • Slow internet ruins this software usage completely. A lighter version should be available to use when your network is slow.
  • Without proper training, it would be messy to understand and use the software at its full potential. So good training should exist.
It is well suited when a team has to work remotely, or when multiple teams are working on the same project in different countries. Some work in the office, while others have outdoor jobs, so it is easy to access from a phone too. Planview Projectplace is not very beneficial for small organizations, as most of their work can also be managed by different tools, and to cut costs they should select different options.

We no longer use Planview Projectplace, we switched to Atlassian JIRA Solutions. Only one language was used, English, and in one department which was a small test group of developers. Only one location within the world and within the organization was used in the trial, as it was being tested as a demonstration.
  • Large amount of features and reporting tools
  • Many different ways to see your tasks and data
  • Zoom integration
  • Overall layout is too bland and hard to navigate
  • Dated looking compared to more refined/newer, simpler tools
  • The document collaboration isn't "smart"
Planview Projectplace is well suited for large, remote teams that require large amounts of collaboration. That collaboration could be meetings, shared tasks, documents etc. However, [I feel] other tools have better integration with our software suite, tools such as Jira have been easier to implement alongside Google suite applications and other 3rd party reporting tools.

Planview Projectplace is a Project Management Software which has agile tracking and standup meetings for accelerating software development and increasing agile methods. Overall, Planview Projectplace is a place where me and my team can plan and get everyone aligned. We can also share a timeline with the team then work towards the main and ultimate goal. Other than that, Planview Projectplace is also used by various other groups throughout my organization and even some departments use it for single projects.
  • Planview Projectplace streamlines interaction between activities within and outside the organization.
  • Planview Projectplace helps in reducing meetings because we are able to collaborate within the tool.
  • I am greatly satisfied with Planview Projectplace as the document management in Planview Projectplace is of top-notch quality.
  • When it comes to Planview Projectplace then there is training required as you will be learning how to manage everybody with one tool.
  • The ‘download’ option for documents is somewhat hidden and it would be nice if the ‘download’ option is next to the file or at least present at a more visible spot. I feel like pictures help a lot when explaining any information so pictorial representation is one thing that is missing in this software that requires attention.
My experience with Planview Projectplace has been great so far. It is the leading software in the category of Project Management Software and it gives the project professionals a simple yet powerful way to manage, track, and tackle their issues. I highly recommend this tool to those who are in search of an efficient project management tool.

Planview Projectplace is specifically designed for Portfolio and Resource management, as opposed to only manage single projects, so it mostly makes sense if you are a company with enough programs running in parallel. It was used as part of our selection process to update our project methodology and better serve multiple customers. Because multiple offices over the world and various languages are used, as well as significant differences in project sizes, we needed to have a very simple yet effective solution to manage it all.
  • It has every basic feature you'd expect from a portfolio solution
  • Strong document management (tracking, security, collaboration, etc.)
  • Easy drilldown and dependencies analysis across projects
  • Pricing - the PPM market is saturated at a bargain price, and Projectplace does not offer anything unique
  • In the end, it was too simple for us and did not fit with agile frameworks such SAFe
  • Very limited API capabilities makes it difficult to integrate the tool with your technology stack, and even standard 3rd-party solutions such as Zoom took months before getting released
Planview Projectplace definitely makes sense if you've been using their solutions in the past years so that you don't have to spend much on change management and training. Other than that, it does offer all the features you would expect from a PPM tool in a relatively simple way. However, considering the price per user and the number of well-priced competitors on the market (both at Enterprise and SME level), it makes it really difficult to invest in Projectplace as new customer.

The project/ work management tool has recently been used in my current project and I think that it has the potential to replace many other project management tools on the market.
Planview Projectplace tool helps us/our teams stay on top of project progress and organize things before they happen. Additionally, it is convenient to place and track everything at a single place instead of doing so in email threads.
  • A simple way to manage tasks and documents
  • Proper planning
  • Gantt Charts - to show progress effectively
  • There is not enough flexibility in the reporting system that meets project needs
  • Having a good understanding of technology is essential for any customization
Definitely find the Planview projectplace to be one of the most significant alternatives to the other available project management tools. With its Gantt chart functionality, you can present management information on project status accurately and efficiently.

Managing and tracking work in this way is a must for any team in an Agile environment. As well as time management, it serves as a strong tool for teams

It is being used in HR department and we found it a very useful project management tool. In current COVID-19 work from home scenario, this application helped us in collaboration on our routine tasks and documents sharing. We were able to meet our timelines and complete our task with the help of this application. Also it helped our team to get along on multiple projects. We used agile method and Gantt chart is a very good feature found in this application. Previously, we tried Trello but found Planview Projectplace more comprehensive application with respect to project management.
  • Project & Task Management
  • Collaboration
  • Reporting
  • Pricing should be flexible and yearly plan should be introduced
  • Improve on user interface
  • Integration with other similar/usable apps
It can be used whether you are working remotely or in office setup but I think it is best feasible for remote working. Also, It is a comprehensive project management application and works best for collaboration & reporting. They need to add integration functions with other relevant applications. Also, the user interface needs to be improved so that it would be easy to understand for users.

We are using Planview Projectplace on a trial basis in our project for project management and mainly for the support services and thus using the Kanban board feature more proactively than any other feature from Planview Projectplace. We are also able to do meeting management, milestone management, archive documents and enable team conversations on specific issues through chat channels. One key part to note is that we started to operate in DACH region and the service's availability in German language is super helpful.
  • ability to archive documents and that too of large sizes
  • ability to setup Kanban board, manage meetings and chat around specific issues and milestones
  • availability in multiple languages
  • release management
  • fully functional tool available for a trial period of 30 days
  • though it focuses mainly on views it has less of dashboards or charts for use thus lacks in pictorial representation of the data
  • some users we have talked to are concerned about pricing so we want to be fully sure before our trial period ends and we start using it
Tasks or goals are easy to breakdown and represent as cards on Kanban boards after which we can track them with individuals for updates and completion which is very good in terms of being on top of the things at any given point of time. This really has increased team efficiency by a small margin in how our team operates and completes their allocated goals. We are also able to view the workload of group of people or individuals and thus get a good overview of the planned work in a particular time frame.

I did freelance work for a company in the entertainment industry that implemented Projectplace Project Management, and all of the employees were onboarded. The most similar product to this I'd used was Slack - Planview Projectplace was like going from Triple A baseball to the major leagues. The ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate users was impressive.
  • Organization of every team member in one place
  • Charts helped me understand what tasks I had to accomplish
  • The software made me feel like everyone was in one big room, working together as a team
  • It would be nice if they had a tier for small businesses (less than 5 employees) - I'd love to implement it as a composer, but it's a bit cost-prohibitive
If you're managing a large project with multiple sub projects and a lot of employees, Planview Projectplace is the perfect place to run it. Being able to see what everyone is working on - and where they are in the process - very quickly is vital to successful project management. This software has every tool you need to succeed.

Planview Projectplace is being used throughout the organization mainly by project management teams across the development teams. Multiple locations and countries often collaborate together using English as the main language that is used on the software. The business problems addressed are mostly tracking of to-do items related to project management milestones. It has been especially useful in terms of allocating tasks across a board and enabling everyone to edit their tasks so it decreases the amount of time project managers need to spend in order to get updates.
  • Easy to start up and use without much training
  • Kanban board makes task tracking easy
  • Collaboration is easy across team members
  • Integration with Microsoft products
  • Support for agile workstreams
  • Document management
Overall a decent, easy to use software that we've used for project tracking for program managers. The boards are easy to navigate and helpful for teams that are spread across time zones or locations that make real-time updates more difficult. Great for smaller teams that have already aligned on objectives and are now managing implementation, but maybe less great for teams who are in the process of aligning or brainstorming as it's features as less well developed for those types of exercises.

We use this on our team and we are part of a pilot program. The enterprise is evaluating several tools and our team was lucky enough to use this. This tool replaces a bunch of separate tools that were being used like MS-Project, Excel, Kanban boards and our ticketing system. The entire team had difficulty sharing information in the past but this tool makes it efficient and effortless. We have a distributed team spread across multiple physical locations in the U.S. and abroad. We currently have most teams working virtual so the physical Kanban board isn't practical. This tool eliminates [our] need for physical boards.
  • Collaboration
  • Issue Management
  • Project Tracking
  • Meeting Management
  • Learning Curve (not necessarily the tool, but the Agile processes)
Great for Agile teams. One thing you have to realize is you are not just implementing a tool, but a new process. You can't expect to get there overnight. I recommend that bringing in an expert to help deploy the tool and make the tool part of everyday life and process. The tool needs to be integrated and become how you do things versus something extra you have to do. Once you get the team using the tool as the "how you do things", team morale greatly improves and adoption increases as well as productivity and a number of KPIs / metrics.

Projectplace is being used for a day to day project activities tracking. We use it for Gantt charts, tracking internal and external spends and resource allocation. It is used by multiple teams across the department. For now it is being used in one single location and English is the only language that is being used in.
  • Track day to day activities associated with a progress of a project.
  • Internal and external spend reconciliation.
  • Resource allocation planning and more.
  • Like I mentioned in my previous point, integration has not been a successful activity.
  • Also I did fail during some reconciliation of expenses and the settings of round up might have been an issue.
  • I was at time unable to export data into an Excel sheet. The reason might be that I did not select the right settings, so the final result was a bit away from the expectations.
I would surely recommend PV to a colleague given the ease of following traditional project management guidelines along with agile and scaled agile methodologies.
Team collaboration has also been an amazing experience with PV. The goal creation and tracking every team individual commitments has shown an increase in team efficiency by almost 80%.

Senior project managers use this application to manage tasks, budget, smartly use limited resources and eventually make important project decisions. Users share tasks and visualize project progress on Kanban boards while moving cards across columns that are connected to an activity at the Gantt chart.
  • Gantt-centered planning approach
  • Strategic road-mapping
  • Sharing project progress with dashboards and visualizations
  • Supports team collaboration during creation and execution of plans
  • The reporting system is not flexible enough the way we would like it to be
We use this application to deliver products faster, enhance business outcomes and support corporate strategic objectives.
Performs well in agile team costing, value stream planning and alignment, and also lean budgeting.

Planview Projectplace is being used at a small scale in the organization at this time, there are significant efforts of sharing it within the organization to promote adoption as a part of the Flex program. It addresses a more Agile approach for Project Management, collaborating, and managing work items for the Business community vs the IT community. The app is used in English and within a few departments within the organization thus far.
  • Kanban Boards
  • Collaboration through the boards and cards
  • Sharing of documents via a Public Link/Space
  • Easier to manage tasks/activities as a Resource/Contributor
  • Ability to be used in a Agile approach
  • Enhancement of the Costing piece, you should at least be able to add your resources and expenditure and get a calculated estimated budget
  • Financial - basic - at least cost based on effort
  • Better Reporting within the tool like the Leankit reports
I already do this with my current job, sharing and demoing the product, how to use it and the benefits.

We use it as a Project Management tool to supplement our existing team of project managers. While we used to use it to track hours, currently it's only being used as a place to store creative briefs and the documents the creative team produces to execute on those briefs. It is an integral part of the creative process.
  • It allows easy sharing of documents.
  • Has a robust commenting system.
  • I enjoy that it has a Scrum board.
  • It's a little difficult to follow some conversations. The threading could be better.
  • Downloading documents isn't intuitive
It is well suited for internal and external creative agencies where quick access to PDFs and Word docs is required. It makes collaboration between creatives and the stakeholders they serve super easy and all that jazz. It's really amazing, and I hope my organization doesn't attempt to switch to another software.

We are in the process of configuring and implementing Planview Enterprise One, and Projectplace is being used as the main project management tool for this project. We are still in a learning curve, and the tool is being used now with a few users in multi-countries, but it has brought us some interesting new concepts and productivity. Once Enterprise One is implemented, the idea is to have them both linked and syncing so that Projectplace can be used for agile projects and also project document storage, as well as a preferred communication tool.
  • It shows the tasks in a time schedule view, allowing the user to switch between the agile interface of cards and an overview of the tasks and its correlations.
  • The possibility of having a dedicated document storage area with easy access gives a friendly way of finding what you need.
  • The mobile app is a good tool and an easy way to get on track with your projects.
  • Importing cards to the board could be simpler and easier, like copy and paste.
  • The name of the columns could be customized, allowing more flexibility to the organization of the board.
  • Additional information for the cards such as cost (money) would be desirable.
It is well suited for project management and as a communication tool. It helps to organize and prioritize tasks, and also puts a good perspective on the scope to be delivered. The ability to use agile methodology with an overview of the project is interesting for follow up, and this together with the possibility to integrate with a time schedule makes the tool powerful in managing control.

We use it in English.

The entire development department is using it (5 persons). We are trying to use it following the Agile methodology, which is not a piece of cake. We have a lot of different projects, most of the time only one person is working on a project. We put all our projects in a single projectplace's plan (as recommended by thier side).
  • The availability to provide customer services via a conference call is just fantastic.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects which are interacting/blocking each other.
  • Handle ticketing support which is linked to board and plan.
  • We recently decided to terminate our ProjectPlace account and customer service told us it must be terminated 3 months before billing anniversary date at the latest otherwise a new billing cycle is invoiced.
  • For a yearly billing, it is not a great news!
  • So, it is definitely not "customer service oriented".
  • projectplace is certainly most appropriate for very simple/small projects
  • We do have a lot of pain using projectplace with multiple projects, alive at the same time, some of them [are] interacting together

We're using Projectplace to collaborate between multifunctional product development teams. The teams are all collocated in the US, so English is the language used.

We chose Projectplace because it offered multiple needs (planning, document sharing, portfolio view, agile/kanban style planning, time tracking) within a simple-to-learn package. More importantly, we were interested in the integration between Projectplace and Innotas for resource management, project prioritization, and requests.
  • Document sharing and automatic versioning of documents as users review and edit documents.
  • Boards: Allowing users to "plan their own destiny" and detail out activities they need to complete for each project task. On boards, team members can plan when to work on which activities.
  • Planning is weak in Projectplace. The Projectplace plan is essentially an illustration only; there is no critical path determination and activities can start before dependencies are complete. We are building project schedules in MS Project, then importing to Projectplace and manually highlighting the critical path as a 2-step process. Projectplace only offers start-to-finish dependency between tasks, other relationships will be useful.
  • No undo button. It's too easy to accidentally change the project plan (duration, or start/end dates) with a mouse click.
  • Document edits... Word documents, when opened for editing and with change tracking enabled, do not inherit the audit trail of Word. We cannot tell who made edits or comments to a document because they are all marked with "author".
  • In Planning, duration assumes calendar days vs. working days. No ability to override and input holidays or non-working days.
  • There is no correlation between cards and plans. If an activity is expected to take 1 day and there are cards that total more than 24 hours of activity, Projectplace does not alert or indicate that an impossible scenario has occurred. The effort estimates vs. actual are simply a tally of information entered. There is no checking or validation of planned vs. actual effort.
Projectplace is well suited to be used by a project team for collaboration and project tracking after a plan has been created. A plan can be created in MS Project, with critical path/critical chain analysis conducted, then imported to Projectplace and translated to boards and cards.

Projectplace should not be used as the solo project planning tool for project managers.

Far as I know, it is used all across the business, with multiple teams, countries, and languages.
  • Great board tool gives visibility and helps prioritizing the tasks.
  • Perfect for collaboration with geographically spread team.
  • Not able to move cards to different projects.
  • Report generation is limited.
Perfect for geographically spread team, or whenever collaboration is needed.
Great for agile teams, not as much for traditional waterfall teams; it does have a GANTT, but it is limited compared to tools like MS Project.

We use projectplace to manage our development projects and to interface with our inhouse developed SCRUM board system. We are starting to use projectplace in our entire company, to do wide spread project work.
  • Easy to combine kanban tokens and gantt scheduling
  • Easy to use api that is powerful
  • clear gantt schedule
  • Load times are _very_ slow, and the browser is seriously bogged down during use.
  • Time reporting is not good enough to actually use as a primary time reporting service. For example as an administrator I cannot see other users time reports, instead I have to export it to excel without context
  • A bit expensive to add new users
For agile project management where there is room for inhouse development of statistics functionality, projectplace is the only alternative!
