What is Planview ProjectPlace?

ProjectPlace is the collaborative work management solution from Planview that brings teams together to get work done. Whether a team is down the hall or on the other side of the globe, ProjectPlace aims to provide everything needed to set direction, communicate, execute tasks, track progress, and ultimately achieve goals. A key value proposition is to be one tool designed to work together rather than a collection of point solutions.

The vendor says the the product is built with teams of all size and complexity in mind, from virtual teams of five to entire global enterprises with tens of thousands of active users. ProjectPlace can be started in minutes and scales as new team members join. Since work types vary, ProjectPlace is flexible to fit the job at hand – traditional projects, roadmaps or unstructured work where groups just need to “get stuff done”.

Both were excellent but Planview has a more complete product line that you can grow with. The difference came down to determining if there was anything that we weren't going to be able to utilize with each and we just had such a positive response internally to the features of Planview. Workfront may have an edge for digital assess management for creative agencies but that was not our vertical.

It is powerful and a nice app that can be used to manage and store different types of projects in one place, share files and resources within the organization, and also with dispersed teams. It really helps in keeping teams on track.

Planview's best feature above all the project planning products is its ability to work in all the methodologies. Scheduling is also a cakewalk when it comes to PV and personally I have found it to be more easier when compared to MS Project or HP PPM.

We used to build our project plan templates in Excel and Planview Projectplace is much easier because you're not worried about finding the correct (and latest) version of a saved document. The workspace is always up-to-date. I find storing documents in Planview Projectplace to be as easy as using a Microsoft Teams channel to store team documents.

Teams works well for sharing documents without access groups, and for live-meetings. Projectplace covers these functions but has a lot more integrated functions in addition. Planning, tasks, chat, live meetings, documents, and reporting in one integrated solution makes it easier to use in the same way (standardized) across all the projects, than building a lot of different apps into Teams every time we start a project. The use of project templates makes it easy to support our project methodology. In addition, the status reports and portfolio view/ functions make Projectplaces more suitable for following up on many projects in an organization.

The organizational structure (cards/boards), user interface (drag/drop/assigning tasks), and visual appeal of Projectplace are all major benefits. There is still a lot for my company/I to learn and utilize with Project Place, but I have heard from other users who have used Projectplace and then switched to other products say that the boards are definitely missed and are a huge asset to using Projectplace.

We still use Trello and will continue to use it for some teams and specific tasks, we also use Basecamp mostly within the technical team. Planview Projectplace is the tool that we hope will help us to move most of our work for collaboration and communication in one place to improve efficiency.

JIRA was meant for software development, as I said before. It isn't very good for copywriters and designers. I would never work at an organization that used JIRA for copywriting work unless they paid me a lot of money to deal with that frustration. ProjectPlace is great.

I started to use ONLYOFFICE also very recently, so I don't have a very detailed idea of how it compares with Projectplace, but from my initial contact, I can say that Planview seems much more complete and with a lot more functionalities. So, if possible, I would like to continue using Projectplace in all my projects.

Projectplace is a complete solution, considering the document storage, overview, and time schedule features. The possibility to integrate it with Enterprise One can definitely be another step further in Project Management within our organization. For simple tasks, though, Trello is more flexible, easier for new users and more intuitive in comparison.

SharePoint is not a product you can use right from the start without heavy engineering, administration, and maintenance, done by expensive experts. Projectplace is much easier and faster to start with and has almost zero maintenance due to its cloud architecture.

To me, ProjectPlace is the winner above and beyond all of these. Similar or less expensive, and far more practical functionality. Rather than try to be all things to all people, it focuses on basic functions that apply to most businesses. Beyond Asana, JIRA, and Trello (which have used and discarded, for the most part) we have received rising pressure to use the "free" Planner tool that comes with Microsoft Office 365, but to me, it falls so far short as to be laughable.
