  • During our initial scoping exercise we observed ~5:1 data reduction. This had us very impressed. Now that we are running FlashArray in the "wild" we're getting ~12:1 data reduction across Oracle workloads -- I still scratch my head every time I see this number!
  • Although we haven't gone through an upgrade yet, the Evergreen model is very appealing.

  • The speed of the SAN has been impressive. Rebooting a Windows 10 virtual desktop takes less than a minute. Our hosted customers have never once mentioned speed issues on their servers.
  • While we are getting twice the deduplication of our other flash solution, our cost calculations were for 33% more than we're getting, so our bottom line IS taking a hit. That being said, we are getting 3:1 deduplication with no loss of performance. This means we have consumed the disk slower than our other solutions and had more time before needing more disk.

  • The high amount of deduplication/compression specifically for a testing environment increases our ROI massively.
  • Seamless upgrade performed by support reduces our support overhead.
  • Simple monitoring further reduces the amount of administration required.

  • The Non-Disruptive Upgrade gives us the ability to do maintenance without out of hours work or downtime.
  • With the Forever Flash, you don't need to change your "old" SSD when you upgrade your storage to a new model
  • The performance is so high that we have consolidated all the SAN in one storage, Pure Storage, and it doesn't need maintenance!

  • Reduced overall data center spend by allowing us to remove an entire rack
  • We have yet to see any performance issue in our virtual environment that was caused by storage
  • API integration with our backup solution decreases overall backup time

  • Maintenance costs are controlled through the life of the product, so you don't need to worry about those costs getting jacked up after year five, which forces you, in turn, to rip and replace, so there's no re-buying your existing capacity and the time to mass migrate your data to other arrays.

  • Positive impact in that it has allowed us to quickly and easily grow through size constraints that have been troublesome in the past.
  • Time and effort required for management are much less than our earlier EMC environments.
  • Evergreen maintenance allows us to plan on controller upgrades at the end of three years, rather than forcing us into a full replacement cycle.

  • The faster storage showed immediate returns in performance for our customers, both internal and external.
  • The feature set allowed us to add a significant number of internal business processes, as well as improve others. So, definitely some hidden or unaccounted for value.

  • We have seen SQL backup errors drop to pretty much zero.
  • "Intermittent" SCSI bus errors that we'd see occasionally from our Linux VMs have completely disappeared.
  • With our integration in Veeam for backups, we've been able to streamline and improve our backups significantly. Restores take, at most, a few minutes.

  • Our 4 Pures have replaced 6 full racks of storage, in about a half rack. It's a space, power, cooling, and management win.
  • Have I mentioned the speed? Having a one-stop top tier that handles DBs and VMware has been great, it's almost completely removed "slowness" tickets from our radar.

  • Previously we had core business systems that required dedicated physical hardware due to slow spinning disk storage and very poor performance when virtualised. This was a considerable cost not only in the hardware itself but licensing and having to use other software for backups etc which increased admin overhead. Moving to a Pure array we were able to virtualise the systems with the same level of performance as when they were on physical servers saving us a considerable amount of time and money.
