We use Qualtrics for market research, both to screen for eligible participants and for the participants to provide feedback on products. We also use Survey Gizmo which is great, but Qualtrics (while more expensive) is used whenever the surveys have more complex logic or piping that Gizmo can't always handle.
  • Qualtrics is capable of much more complicated logic and piping than most other survey tools.
  • We have experienced far fewer bugs/technical issues with Qualtrics as compared to other survey tools.
  • Qualtrics is definitely more expensive than the competition.
  • Qualtrics can be harder for beginners to use.
Qualtrics is definitely ideal for people with highly technical survey needs, or for long or complicated surveys.

I used this product to collect data on market research for the college athletics market audience. This was done by the Marketing department to spread feedback to additional department to see where market dollars could be raised. I also used this product for multiple collegiate projects mainly for market research data. This business problem addressed was finding where dollars could be grabbed or target audiences looked at that were not before.
  • Specifically detailing reviews (likes/dislikes/lean to of purchase) of particular target audiences
  • Expanding growth of the company is a plus for the trust in using a successful business

Qualtrics software was used for multiple purposes in our department, and has begun to be implemented throughout the organization as others see the uses of automating some of their processes.

One purpose for why we used the Qualtrics software was to gather feedback from our customers to better understand their experiences while engaging with our products. We also gathered feedback to understand our customers' experiences with our customer service. The survey aspect of the software was very comprehensive and easy to use. It enabled us to quickly and seamlessly create these feedback requests.

Another purpose was to gather initial information about our customers. As customers would visit, their check-in would be handled automatically with the use of another tech-friendly survey that was highly compatible with our office Apple products. These simple check-in requests would automatically be sent to our email which facilitated the process of ensuring that our customers had exactly what they needed when they needed it. This automation was key to our ability to provide excellent customer service and increase our customer ratings. It enabled us to spend our time focussing on more important tasks.
  • Qualtrics provides simple but accurate analysis of the data received from your survey. This analysis makes it easy to find key takeaways that give voice to your data and help you to deliver powerful messages to your organization.
  • Qualtrics provides easy-to-use formats that help to navigate the data you have received. When data is easy to understand, you are better enabled to focus on building a story behind that data instead of trying to make sense of it.
  • Qualtrics makes it easy to automate reporting of your data. This frees up more time for you to focus on other important tasks instead of having to manually click through the software each time you need your data refreshed.
  • One area of improvement that I noticed for Qualtrics was to make sure that their system/software updates were communicated properly to their customers. That way, their customers would have perspective on why their system may look different or why certain functions may be performing differently.
  • Another area of improvement would be to make the process of requesting a panel more intuitive. I recall having a hard time understanding how to ask/pay for a panel of respondents when it came to gathering vital market data.
  • Finally I would add that Qualtrics could improve their software by expanding the options of quick view reporting. There were many times that I was forced to fully download a report to find the data I was looking for. It would be very convenient to have better line-of-sight to what the report will be showing me in detail before I am forced to download.
I think that Qualtrics is perfect for gathering small amounts of information from an audience. 10-20 questions would be a solid amount of questions. However, I found that any in-depth (20+ question) surveys would be more complicated with Qualtrics. This is mostly due to the nature of the technology behind the surveys. The technology is becoming more advanced, but for now it lacks the ability to provide more complex questions and answers during any given survey session.

It is used by multiple departments within the organization. It it a primary tool used to serve our clients.
  • It has an easy to learn interface.
  • It is able to accommodate more advanced logic.
  • There is some missing functionality when it comes to content validation.
  • There is some missing functionality when it comes to being able to edit the style or look of questions on pages.
It's much easier to teach to other people because the interface is quite intuitive. It's also much easier to handle advanced logic - the embedded data function is great. Qualtrics itself also has a very detailed help website.

I am the only Qualtrics user for my organization. I use it for my annual satisfaction/engagement surveys for my various constituents.
  • The display logic is a godsend. No more gaming the system (using skip logic) to get specific questions to only some of the survey respondents.
  • It has a lot of evaluative features that other programs do not.
  • It runs basic statistical analysis on your survey data.
  • The reporting export is... how shall I put this mildly... awful! I mean so bad it must be a joke that I am not getting.
  • I have to completely rework the results after exporting because I can't get Qualtrics to assign values to my scales as I prefer. (Yes they allow recoding values on some instruments but not all). This can lead to human error.
  • Their Beta reporting feature is embarrassingly bad. If I were them I wouldn't consider this release a Beta. It is not there yet.
What are your needs on the front end? Qualtrics meets front end needs beautifully. It is the back end where they need help. If front end is the most important to you then Qualtrics is great.

We use Qualtrics to build and distribute surveys ranging from evaluations of meetings and events to grantee reports. It is used across our whole organization. It allows us to use one product for multiple different actions-- whether it's simply collecting RSVPs for a reception or creating a reporting template for a complex grant program, our staff only needs to know how to use one program.
  • Easy to learn
  • Excellent technical support
  • Very easy to use as a survey taker
  • Building surveys is not always intuitive
  • Some learning curve for survey design
Qualtrics is well suited for any survey need, from small to large. It's easy to distribute to a panel for identified responses or via a link for anonymous/unidentified responses. The reporting functionality is all that you could need. I can't think of a time when Qualtrics would not be able to get the job done.

We use Qualtrics to send out surveys after all of our special events and other random surveys as needed to our membership. It is a great tool for allowing us to succinctly communicate large ideas with our membership .
  • Qualtrics is very easy to understand. We can introduce it to interns and have them using the product quickly and profiently.
  • All of the different ways to compare data is really usefull. It is endless.
  • I feel like sometimes Qualtrics can be a little too robust. It would almost be helpful if there was an easy use tab for surveys that aren't heavy in academic research.
I would recommend Qualtrics for anyone looking to have a full range survey system especially if it is important to have compliance for HIPAA and FERPA.

We are currently using Qualtrics to receive customer satisfaction results from their interactions with our product support engineers. We also use Qualtrics on our knowledgebase articles on the web to receive feedback on technical information documents that customers would like to provide feedback on (like if it solved their issue, or if it should have more details, etc). It is being used across our organization in various business units, though it is primarily used in our services division(s).
  • Custom survey creation
  • Very intuitive and easy to use interface
  • Advanced configuration features for those versed in HTML/CSS/Java
  • But simple enough that ANYONE can use it to create, modify, update, and report on various things
  • An easier to use mobile interface for survey CREATION (their mobile interface for taking a survey is amazing!)
  • Make moving surveys from one owner/group to another owner/group more intuitive or easier to find
  • Provide access to the API to a broader audience (or at a lower price-point)

We have gone through various survey provider vendors, and here are some of the issues we've run into:

  • Free surveys don't have enough customizations (and aren't professional for our enterprise usage)
  • Other vendors would charge for: survey creation, survey translation, survey changes, survey results (ie reporting), customizing the reporting, providing access to the reporting, changes in the data fields, transmission of survey results over http/ftp/email, user management changes
Qualtrics has a better pricing model and lets you handle all of the above issues internally, or by engaging their professional services.

Our Consumer & Business Insights team is currently using Qualtrics to field primary quantitative research in the form of online surveys. We utilize the software to create the surveys themselves, and on occasion utilize Qualtrics panels in order to recruit survey sample. These surveys help inform the development of marketing strategies on behalf of our clients, as well as in new business prospecting. Some typical primary research efforts include:
  • Consumer experience research
  • Category intelligence gathering
  • Advertising creative / copy testing
  • Targeting & market segmentation
  • Brand health studies
  • Allows for quick and easy construction of surveys. The interface is very user friendly and easy to learn.
  • The survey flow feature allows for more complex coding such as randomization of blocks, sample splitting, display logic, etc.
  • Offers ability to look at quick results within the software or to export to analysis software such as SPSS, MarketSight, etc.
  • Flexibility in fielding via custom URLs, social media, email, etc.
  • Great customer service
  • The results / reporting functionality is a bit basic. We usually export results from our survey into a different survey analysis software.
  • When you create embedded data fields, they are exported as a text variable. This requires an extra step on the back end to re-code variables.
There are cheaper survey design platforms out there, but in my opinion Qualtrics is worth the cost. The less expensive options tend to have limitations in how you can design your surveys. I would only recommend another option if someone had very basic survey development needs.

I brought in Qualtrics as one of a few in-house survey tools at our disposal for the market research team at ADP. I personally designed, programmed, launched, and deployed several surveys using Qualtrics. I have personal experience with the sales teams, training organization, and service teams at Qualtrics.
  • Very easy to learn and use
  • Handles complex question types and logic
  • Good user interface
  • Reporting was a little difficult to navigate at times, but they are working on a new tool here
  • Some fairly standard features in my opinion (like advanced quota management) required paid upgrades
  • Some needs required workarounds - they were able to get us everything we needed eventually, but a few things didn't seem out of the box
  • No in-house resources to outsource the work to if we need someone to program a survey for us or conduct analysis (although they did introduce a new partner firm to us this year who can provide that support)
  • Response-based pricing model vs. flat fee or survey based model
I've evaluated all kinds of tools in this space from SurveyMonkey and SurveyGizmo to more robust tools like Confirmit and Vision Critical's Sparq platform. I describe Qualtrics to people as the best of both worlds. It is far more robust that the cheap tools like SurveyMonkey (even their highest end package), but It is WAY easier to learn and use than Confirmit or Sparq. It is a great fit for organizations looking for a reasonably priced in-house market research platform. They are also developing the tool quickly, and I've seen major progress in it this year alone.

Qualtrics is being used specifically by the Public Policy Research Lab here at LSU. We're essentially a market research unit that serves both on-campus clients, non-profit's, state agencies, and businesses. Whenever we have an online survey to do as part of a research project, we host the survey in Qualtrics.
  • Qualtrics is extremely intuitive and easy to use. You sign in and the rest is pretty self explanatory if you're even loosely familiar with survey design.
  • Qualtrics offers unique randomization options by allowing the users to group questions into blocks, and questions can be randomized within the block, and access to the blocks themselves can also be randomizes.
  • Qualtrics offers great options for referencing previously entered data in new questions.
  • Qualtrics offers a unique heat-mapping tool to track where users click on a website or other supplied media.
  • Testing surveys can be difficult, as the steps to test in the middle of a survey, rather than at the beginning are not always clear.
  • Numbering questions in Qualtrics is extremely frustraing, as the product defaults to numbering questions by when they were added, not the order they appear in the survey. This makes referencing extremely difficult.
  • While Qualtrics does offer the ability to screen respones (such as ensuring the entered data is a Phone Number (xxx)-xxx-xxx or a date xx/xx/xxxx) - learning how to use those functions is somewhat obtuse and confusing.
If you have need of an online survey software you can and should use Qualtrics. It will meet your needs.

We use it to administer surveys and to learn new things. We assess many variables and have staff input those variables into the survey software. We use this for quantitative and qualitative research. The product is used across the University and my use is in one specific area of academic research. We address the problem on needing to know new information about a topic.
  • Administer Surveys
  • Download survey results
  • Cross tab analysis
  • Editing surveys once they are launched
  • Ease of use, high learning curve
  • Downloading surveys automatically
It is well suited to academic and survey research. It is also suited to situations where you have to pay panelists to do research for you. I think it is less suited for situations where you have a low budget and not enough resources as I understand there are cheaper options.

Qualtrics started out just with the Consumer Insights team but with such a positive experience now has grown to the IT/Customer Care departments as well.
  • Great customer support! They more often than not have the answer we need to solve some of our most tricky problems.
  • Updates the software on a regular basis- great at notifying us of any revisions or enhancements.
  • Research Summit! Did an outstanding job at out doing themselves at the summit.
  • I would LOVE to have an "undo" button. There are more times that I would like to remember where I had done something that I wish I could easily "undo" and had to spend excess time fixing areas that I could have easily taken care of with a simple click of the "undo" button.
  • Wish there was a pop up warning when you are about to email a panel a survey that has duplicate emails you were not aware of. We had a fairly big issue come up recently where we didn't de-dupe the panel accidentally and sent out duplicate emails (in some cases over 20) to our panel.
  • The reporting feature. I know you are diligently working on it now, so I am already excited about what new features are in store for us, but wanted to state it here that I am eagerly waiting!
  • Would love to see Topic Consultants (i.e., experts in conjoint, nps, etc) that we could conference with for an additional fee. I think this is also (or hoping anyway) something that will be coming soon!
It is a great tool for any type of surveys beyond your basic "which of the two do you prefer?" surveys. Love the ability to branch or show specific sections to a select group of respondents.

Many faculty across our campus use qualtrics for research and for other survey needs. These could be course related or for other projects. Many departments also use the product to conduct surveys of faculty, students, staff, researchers, etc.

We needed a tool that provided good data for our researchers that functioned at an enterprise level. It was also important that we have a product where data stood in the cloud is considered secure and compliant with state and federal regulations.

We also needed a company willing to work with us to meet our needs. Qualtrics has been a great partner when we needed to get the URL to look like it was coming from our campus and not from the company. While this took a bit of time, it has been a great benefit to response rates for our users.
  • Data options and reporting
  • Custom/vanity URL
  • Questions types
  • Mobile scalability
  • Account management
  • Could be more easily integrated with a variety of systems
The enterprise offering has been key for our campus. The quality of the data export and reporting are other major factors. The custom URL has been critical for us to improve response rates especially when our initial installation made respondents balk at who was really asking for the the survey to be completed.

Qualtrics is being used throughout our organization for survey purposes. We use it for faculty, administrative, student and alumni surveys. It makes survey writing a breeze with the many options on what types of questions you want (multiple choice, text box, likert scale, etc.).
  • As I said before, I really like the variety of question types you can use. Since I create many different types of surveys for different audiences, it's great to have so many options.

I had experience with Qualtrics from a research project in graduate school and decided to use the program in a pilot auditing program. This is the only application to my knowledge that the company is using Qualtrics for, as we would typically have our internal IT staff build similar programs. In the interest of getting the program up and running quickly I knew Qualtrics would be a good solution. Qualtrics allowed for a centralized way for me to deliver data to the employees in the field and collect responses from their audits.
  • Easy to use interface
  • Multiple reporting options - whether you need something quick or a more thorough report
  • Great technical support
  • Support to upload directly from other document formats
  • Increased skip logic functionality without over-complicating the survey creation
  • Randomization of questions (from a pool of questions)
Qualtrics is an excellent survey software -- in any scenario where a colleague was using either paper or email questionnaires, or other services such as Survey Monkey, I would absolutely recommend Qualtrics. It is excellent for simple surveys and even slightly more complex needs (skip logic). It is especially useful in large scale studies.

We currently use the Qualtrics Research Suite across about 80% of our organization to create surveys that we distribute to current and potential customers as well as internally for employee feedback. We are able to get valuable feedback on our current products as well as upcoming content releases and new product launches. We also use Qualtrics Site Intercept to interact and silicate feedback from users who are on our site about new product features as well as survey users about media channels that drove them to our website. We also use Site Intercept to gain understanding around why users exit our signup process before fulfilling a purchase of our subscription services.
  • Qualtrics has an amazing survey tool that allows us to set up fairly complicated surveys in an instant. The layout of the Research Suite UI is intuitive and simple. This allows for a much quicker survey creation process.
  • Qualtrics has one of the best customer help systems out there. Their online university is packed full of webinars, trainings and help tools. If I ever do need to reach out to a support representative, they are always quick to answer the phone (no automated system to navigate through) and answer any questions I may have.
  • The Qualtrics Site Intercept tool is innovative and extensive. It allows us to reach our customers or potential customers directly on our website in various non-intrusive ways. Soliciting feedback from our users while they are in the midst of the experience is invaluable.
  • Qualtrics could do a better job at communicating outages or product glitches. In the 5 yrs we have worked with them I have only had the system go down twice but I had to alert them to the problem.
  • It would be nice to see a more transparent road map of product expansion and enhancements from Qualtrics.
Qualtrics began as an academic based system used by various academic institutions and excels in this area. In the past several years they have expanded their product to include features that make is simple and easy for anyone to create surveys. This vendor is extremely easy to work with but it is always handy to have real world survey issues you have experienced in the past to evaluate if they are a fit for your needs.

We have been using Quatrics at the Kellogg School of Management for many years. We saw the software growing and getting refined every year. In addition, we collaborated with Qualtrics to request features that weren’t present when we first started using the software, and they have always been very receptive and helpful in implementing them.

Qualtrics is being used by the entire school for different purposes. Our MBA students use it as part of their learning process, as a powerful tool to create surveys. We also use it internally, for surveys among the departments for a broad variety of purposes.

In my specific case, however, I work with our researchers (PhD students and Faculty Members) who use Qualtrics for research purposes. As and administrator, I manage their accounts and help them when they have issues creating a survey, which, I must say, happens rarely, since Qualtrics is a very user friendly survey software.
  • User Friendliness
  • Flexible
  • Is powerful and be used for complex survey designs
  • When I access someone's account from mine Admin one, I cannot go back to mine, unless I completely log out and log back in.
Qualtrics is a great software and it is really easy to use and powerful. It is useful in gathering information and it is suited for any kind of survey. It can really be used in many situations.

You might want to use it to gather information among the employees for some internal initiative, or get a feedback from your customers, or really gather any kind of survey data that you need (i.e. for research purposes).

Obviously, in my field, we also use some other software for tasks that are more specific and that Qualtrics is not tailored to accomplish (i.e., record reaction time during a Implicit Association Test experiment).

Describe how Qualtrics is being used by your organization?
Qualtrics is currently being used in our organization for a variety of purposes. We use the survey tool both for internal and external research. Our external research primarily revolves around surveying attendees after course completion and conducting satisfactions survey. Internally, we also use the surveys for satisfaction gauging as well as for event registration.

Is it being used by a department or across the whole organization?
It is used throughout several departments in the organization.

What business problems does it address?
A comprehensive database that we can look back to for history reference and conduct comparative analysis over the course of time to track trends.
  • Qualtrics provides helpful guidance when building survey as it has pre-structured and built surveys that can be referenced or used rather than starting from scratch.
  • Qualtrics' report and analysis tools are extremely helpful and the ability to export to SPSS for analysis is easy to use.
  • It's very easy to use the logic tools when creating lengthy surveys where questions may not apply to each person based on previous answers.
  • We have many users on the Qualtrics system, but the administrator has access to all survey and responses, which isn't ideal for surveys containing confidential information.
  • The panel tools aren't the easiest to navigate through, but once you get used to them, they're a useful tool.
There are several survey suites out there, and some free suites--like through Google or Survey Monkey, and those work perfectly if you're looking to do a 5 question short survey here or there that you won't need to reference in the future and analyze comparative data on. However if you're looking for a permanent solution for your survey needs and a database that is easy to use and store data and assist with conducting analysis, Qualtrics is the tool for you.

Qualtrics is used for qualitative and quantitative market research projects performed for clients. This includes screeners, quant surveys, moderator notes for qualitative surveys, and customer satisfaction surveys. Only the consultants/researchers and respondent recruiters use Qualtrics, which is about 50% of the company.
  • Qualtrics is extremely user friendly. I can have a quick/simple survey up and running within 5 minutes.
  • Qualtrics is also extremely powerful. Though simply, very complicated surveys (like conjoints) can be created.
  • Qualtrics' customer support is free and provides outstanding service.
  • Qualtrics should be made available without a connection to the internet. For business people travelling, time in airports or on planes could be used to program surveys.
Qualtrics is an excellent option for people who are not tech savvy, as well as those who only need to design and field straightforward surveys. This is probably 95% of users.

Qualtrics is used at the campus level at the University of Colorado at Boulder. I manage the instance used at the Leeds School of Business, and we have faculty, staff, and student users. We use it robustly for what it's intended, surveying, but we also use it as an RSVP tool for event management and other ways.
  • The vast amount of question types are a great strength of Qualtrics. And, the way they are shown as options helps the user visualize how it would be utilized to help them determine the best type to use.
  • The survey options and survey flow are strengths of Qualtrics - from email and panel triggers to the look and feel, content validation and skip/show logic. All great ways to help tweak the survey to make it perfect!
  • The Salesforce integration is perfect for our use of SFDC as our CRM.
  • Reporting. We use Qualtrics as an application for different programs, and we have the need to be able to have a 'pretty' view of individual applications, not the entire pool (AKA all respondents)
It is well suited for simple and advanced survey building with lots of options for look and feel and survey flow. It is not best used for an application to something because of its inability to report on individual responses.

Qualtrics is a GREAT product for obtaining survey responses, calculating statistics and gathering analytical information. I'm impressed with it's user "friendly-ness". I've been using the product for almost 8 years and thus far, there is no reason to change that. One issue I do have, is the inability to download responses for only one question. I do not always need the FULL responses to my entire survey. Sometimes my members want the responses of one particular question. Unfortunately, I have to download the entire survey, copy/paste or extract from the downloaded material. Otherwise, the product has been most helpful. Best features are: Triggers, statistics, and skip logic! Love it!
  • Triggers - Alerts multiple parties of surveys taken.
  • Skip logic - Skips to the next question based on answer submitted.
  • Sometimes I only need to download responses from 1 question.
None that I can think of at the moment.

Qualtrics was introduced to advertising and public relations students in the Advertising Research course that is required by the department. In the course we were taught the importance of survey making and how to structure them to get meaningful results. Qualtrics is a great tool because it lets you structure surveys however you please, and most importantly it allows for the user to look at the results very easily. I personally used this tool for my capstone project which helped my team come to clear decisions about our client. Qualtrics helped us come to the conclusion of our target audience, design ideas, and marketing opportunities that we were unsure of.
  • The user interface is very easy to use! When creating a survey the user should focus more on the content rather than trying to figure out which format they should apply. Qualtrics does a great job on giving you a library of templates and the chance to create your own.
  • We are humans and we make mistakes! In the past Qualtrics had made it easy for me and my team to change something about the survey, whether it was a question of content or a spelling error, changing it in Qualtrics was never an issue.
  • The measurement tool in Qualtrics allowed me and my team to come to the best results for our client. We were able to utilize the cross-tabulation option to come to the conclusion of what our target market was really seeking for in the product.
  • Qualtrics has great tutorials on helping users create surveys, but I think they would really benefit from helping users as they create the survey. Qualtrics could ask the user to rate each question, this will then give the user the ability to double-check the content and make sure they are asking the right questions.
As a student, we were introduced to this survey tool and not really any others beside Survey Monkey. However, I was more pleased using Qualtrics for research because of the minimalistic interface. Our target audience for our campaigns project was an older crowd (baby boomers), so we just needed them to answer the questions presented and not be bombarded with an overly-colurful interface.

I first staring using Qualtrics when I was a student at Columbia Business School to conduct research for my academic projects. I conducted several student surveys and was able to become fluent in the software very quickly because of its well designed, intuitiuve user interface.

At my first job I immediately recognized how Qualtrics could benefit the consumer research being conducted. At this job I used qualtrics to survey the current customer base because I was able to easily tie individual survey responses to CRM behavioral data living in the offline CRM customer warehouse. This allowed for significantly more robust analysis to be conducted as I was able to utilize a much larger dataset. I was also able to create value and understand my CRM data that was formally just sitting in isolation.

I have never used the Site Intercept product however I have heard fantastic things from peers who have used it while conducting studies on the effectiveness of digital marketing campaigns and websites.

Also I enjoy Qualtrics blog as it is incredibly educational. I have referenced it numerous times. Specially I have used it to read up on the various methadologies of conjoint analysis. I have never used the Qualtrics conjoint product, but I look forward to testing it out when the time is right!
  • Allow me to tie individual survey responses to offline CRM data
  • Allow me to create surveys quickly and easily.
  • Teach me about research methodologies
  • Create branded look and feels of the surveys
  • I actually do not know any of the limitations .. have had positive experiences all around.
  • Video Classes / tutorials on research methodologies
  • Community classes/ Meetup groups?
I would recommend using qualtrics to conduct surveys and tie data to CRM data.

Qualtrics solved the problem in the organization where we wanted to start programming more robust surveys but didn’t have the technical or operational expertise. It was quite easy to get up and going with and scalable in field.
  • You dont have to be a programming expert to wrap your head around the software
  • The platform is agnostic to various sample providers
  • The largest MR company to the smallest classroom can find a use for Qualtrics
  • I havent seen a project Qualtrics was unable to handle
  • The media library could use some streamlining
  • Implementing the surveys and pushing them live in field could be an easier process
  • The online help is pretty poor which means you call the help line more often than you'd like
This is a great solution for companies that want to get into survey programming and need something robust but do not have the time to develop software. Also, its FAR easier to use than Confirmit.
