I used Qualtrics while working in an internal research position in the auto industry. It was used for customer satisfaction survey projects that had a small dynamic sample with minimal reporting requirements (frequencies, simple cross tabs). National tracking studies were outsourced as they required portal reporting with multiple user levels - I don't know if Qualtrics has added online reporting options recently, something to check out if your business needs require it. Qualtrics is very easy to use - think Survey Monkey, Survey Gizmo, or Zoomerang type survey tool. I used the online training videos to learn how to use it and it was super easy to pick up - the training videos were clear and concise. I would recommend Qualtrics for any internally managed research projects - it seems to be accepted as a more professional/accredited tool than Survey Monkey/Survey Gizmo/Zoomerang and it's more reasonably priced than other complex survey tools like the SPSS options. Not sure if it's an option for market research vendors.
  • Easy to use
  • Reasonably priced for an accredited online survey tool
  • Surveys look professional
  • Complex reporting and analysis
Great for internally managed research. Not so sure if Qualtrics is an appropriate option for market research vendors.

Qualtrics is used mostly by our corporate and U.S. marketing department for surveys and e-blasts, often in conjunction with a trade shows or client event as a menthod of tracking RSVPs. We are also in the process of leveraging qualtrics for employee feedback from trade shows, as well as creating an online "order form" for attire.
  • Customization
  • Customer Service/Technical Support
  • Versatility
  • HTML Coding (not extremely user friendly)
  • Reports (difficult to customize/create)
  • Appearance (difficult to make look visually appealing as there is extra spacing, etc.)
Definitely good for surveys, generating reports, and sending e-blasts in conjunction with a form. Not appropriate as a landing page/mini-website (unless you are collecting data of some sort).

It is being used for data management for our research study, and on other studies throughout our department. It is an alternative to using REDCap, as Qualtrics has more options and flexibility in terms of the formatting and branch logic. It was a huge upgrade from a previous program our department used called Quask. If Qualtrics was HIPAA compliant, we would use Qualtrics all the time.
  • Formatting. When using Qualtrics for sending out surveys electronically, the formatting looks fresh and professional. It really catches the reader's eye.
  • Exporting. It is very easy to export to SPSS or other programs you may use. Qualtrics does add some variables that are not useful for my research purposes (like IP address, and other various randomized codes) but you can easily delete them.
  • The different answer options. You can easily make a question with a small or large textbox, or have the participant select more than one options. Or use a scale. I don't know another program out there that makes these kinds of survey building this easy to use.
  • Exporting. While this is easy, I wish there was a way to select the variables you want to keep from the beginning. I don't want to select every single variable each time I want to export. It's a pain to delete the same columns over and over again especially when you didn't want them in the first place.
  • Not HIPAA compliant. I wish it had the same protections as REDCap. I love Qualtrics but our department (social and behavioral health research) needs it to be HIPAA compliant.
It's great for any survey! I wish it was HIPAA compliant though, like REDCap.

I currently use Qualtrics for my own research for special projects. I've most recently used it as a survey to investigate internal process issues and attain raw data for elements that I do not have data for, since they are not being measured.
  • Qualtrics allows for surveys to be designed to be interactive.
  • Qualtrics has designs for different types of measurements.
  • Qualtrics delivers results of the surveys in an organized fashion.
  • It would be useful to have additional ways to measure results against each other.
Qualtrics is great for qualitative and quantitative investigations. The Qualtrics user should have good understanding of how to write surveys questions to achieve accurate and proper data results.

We are using Qualtrics for simple internal survey and consumer's feedback for new product's development. It is currently used by Product and Partner's team. We might attempt to use it across the whole company when we have a chance. It helps us understand customer's behavior when surfing our website, it is a very powerful tool for survey
  • Qualtrics help you write survey questions very fast
  • Qualtrics have lots of built-in question types
  • Qualtrics data collection module is powerful and easy to use
  • Qualtrics translation module is pretty good as well
  • Qualtrics are not good at complicated logic
  • Qualtrics are not very strong at crosstab presentation
  • Qualtrics statistical package is not very complete
Qualtrics University program is very good. I would recommend everybody taking weekly seminar and watching video classes. They cover many different topics from basic survey building to advanced building. You also learn how to create and manage a panel successfully. They also give you basic knowledge of statistical test such as T-test, crosstabs and conjoint analysis

Our organization utilize qualtrics in various ways. The events team is utilizing qualtrics as a registration database. The whole organization has a qualtrics accounts. It helps the small meetings area collect registration information in a flexible way.
  • The ability to attach documents within a survey allows the small events area to add menus and audiovisual lists when utilizing as a meeting request form.
  • The ability to have several email triggers when internal clients answer questions that affect other areas. It eliminates sending out emails to several people because the system does it for you.
  • We love skip and display logic. The ability to show only the relevant information shortens surveys to only the important items for each internal client or attendee.
  • The reports can be difficult to translate into workable files. A lot of clean up goes into making them presentable.
We find this system to be very flexible. While the reporting can be cumbersome, we find that utilizing the system to create surveys as forms or registration is fairly flexible.

Qualtrics was used to validate serveral different use cases across a customer base that featured many different types of consumers. Ideas were brainstormed, use cases explored, arguments supported, etc by cross analyziing cross subsets of the data we collected.
  • Over Analyzation - you can really get into the details of any situation your team can come up with. From there, you can step back and say what is something we haven't tried
  • Rationalization - This tool provides you will the platform to display data, aggregated in various formats, with the intention to prove a point
  • Simple tool to use, that easy.
  • Could improve on the look and feel of the tool, some found it daunting.
Qualtrics was well suited for both qualitative and quantitative formats. We were able to derive quality information from both sections.

I used to work in the Research division of a very prominent graduate school. Qualtrics was the software predominantly used to create surveys and collect data. It was used in most research divisions of the schools.
  • Ease of use for both surveyors and surveyees. It's not hard to pick up and the workings of the product are fairly intuitive.
  • Qualtrics allows for a lot of flexibility when designing surveys. I have never found a functionality lacking.
  • When I used it, Qualtrics had a habit of lagging from time to time. I am not sure if this issue had be addressed but if not, it is on top of the list.
Any type of research that involves setting up surveys and collecting data is one that fits well with the Qualtrics software.

I use Qualtrics 360 at a large hospital system in Northern California. It is being used by the entire organization as a tool to rate the customer service abilities of key leaders. While we don't use it the traditional sense of a full 360, I call it more of a 180 approach, it has been a challenge to use. The system is not intuitive and has very little forgiveness for any errors. I would often find myself doing the exact same steps multiple times until it would actually process and work in the system. Lists of names are not able to be alphabetized and there is no real order to how they are presented, they don't even match the order on the spreadsheet upload. Reporting is also challenging, and I found myself struggling not to just give up because I could only get the reports to look "okay" instead of "perfect" as I expect of any deliverable I produce. In the end, Qualtrics 360 will do the job and their help and support staff is amazing to work with, but the actual software just doesn't seem like it is completely ready for public use. I felt like I was using a beta version instead of a polished final version.
  • When they work properly, the graphs and reporting look nice
  • Easily set up an online system for collecting data
  • Customer support is top notch
  • Reporting is challenging to use to get it "just as you want it"
  • Needing to repeat steps a number of times
  • The system's email system is challenging to use
It would be best to use this for small 360s that follow a traditional structure and that require a very simple reporting plan.

One department owns the logins and typically only members of this department, research, uses the product. Sometimes, members of other teams within the wider User Experience group uses for surveys. My early use has been to collect simple feedback on some of the sessions I had facilitated. My recent use has typically been to run surveys after remote user testing.
  • The surveys are very easy to use and set up. It is very easy to add, delete and edit questions.
  • Once you have results, it is fairly easy to export the data into usable and editable reports.
  • If our research participants are coming from another online research tool, the transition to the Qualtrics site is easy, quick and seamless.
  • We use the tool often for NPS and SUS questions, which require formulas to calculate. The Qualtrics surveys that are set up with these questions calculate well.
  • When you export data, the data doesn't always match up with the correct participants, especially if not all participants complete each question. It is very confusing and complicated to sift through the data to ensure it matches up correctly.
  • Often, I put together surveys and want to just see them in review; however, the scores of the number of users that have completed the test are skewed as my reviews are counted towards the total of users that "take" the survey. I wish you could just eliminate those that viewed the survey in review mode.
  • The PPT reports that export are ugly and messy. It would be nice to have the data exported in a format that doesn't have to be so heavily edited before it can be used for reporting.
I am not a super user and am only competent, but I trust Qualtrics for more simple questions and simple responses. The breadth of the types of questions that can be asked are useful in a variety of use cases; however, I am not sure if I would recommend Qualtrics for heavy mathematical / analytical questions.

I haven't had the privilege of using Qualtrics in quite a while, but I'm so glad I had the opportunity to use it at a previous company. It's far superior to any survey software I've ever used. You can do so much more, metrics and analyses are far more robust, and the customer assistance group is friendly, competent, and eager to assist and teach. Research participants also find the surveys easy to complete and intuitive to understand. Can't say enough good things about Qualtrics. Wish my current company would pay for a subscription - It would definitely make my life a lot easier!
  • Customer service - second to none
  • Countless options for survey questions
  • Robust analyses
  • I'd like it to be cheaper, so my company would pay for a subscription
It just puts other survey softwares to shame. And it's much more "professional looking" too.

When I was working at MIT Sloan, it was used throughout Sloan. I now work at central MIT, and we do not use Qualtircs. I think there is an opportunity for Qualtrics to become the preferred survey tool for all of MIT.
In the Career Development office it addresses questions related to student opinions and was used to gather feedback following events and modules.
  • Support! Anytime I have a question, I know I can always rely on the staff to be friendly and helpful and I know I won't get stuck in hold music hell.
  • Easy to export results into excel for analysis
  • Easy to create/modify questions and set up "smart surveys" with skip logic.
  • I wish there was an easier way to customize the survey look and feel with logos or rich text editing. I know it's possible, but it's not easy.
  • The pre-made reports are not very useful. For me it is not useful to export my data and see the median, mean and standard deviation because for the data I was looking at it was irrelevant.
  • It would be great it Qualtrics could highlight outlier data for me to bring my attention to anything that looks off.
Qualtrics is well suited to provide a professional looking survey experience. I would not hesitate to use it for both internal and external constituencies.

Qualtrics was used for the analysis of marketing surveys conducted to determine brand positioning and strategy for a new online organization looking to optimize their current marketing and advertising well identifying new target markets on a global scale.
  • Qualtrics excels at correlating data points across various metrics to find important statistical data points such as group means, medians and outliers.
  • Qualtrics is an excellent tool for comparing disparate survey questions to gain meaningful insight, such as psychographic to demographic.
  • The visualization capabilities help users to find meaningful insight and patterns in a new way.
  • Loading information is user friendly and can easily be scaled across an organization to allow multiple users to become experts quickly.
  • The user interface is complex, it could be made simpler.
  • If data is not correctly correlated, there is no warning system to tell a user he may have created inconclusive results.
  • There is no recovery is the program crashes during use, everything is lost. Save often!
Qualtrics is very well suited for survey analysis. Some good use cases include identifying key demographics, finding the means within a data series, and eliminating outliers from reporting. These can then be fused to create interesting new relationships between metrics, such as your target markets mean age and their prime geographic location. A key question would be, will this be used to create new meaningful relationships between data sets? are you looking to fuse disparate data together?

The implementation of Qualtrics within our organization is used differently in each department. The Human Resources department uses the platform for Employee recognition and rewards programs, employee satisfaction surveys, and other HR needs. The learning and development department uses the service to understand what training is needed internally and externally, what types of conferences satisfy our external clients, and collecting post conference/training satisfaction. Lastly, our council uses the platform to reach out to our external clients to understand their need and how we can offer better service and gather data on multiple levels.
  • It accurately and adequately collects data
  • It ensures identifiers are left off and data is easily collected
  • It helps those who are novices to survey creation to make for ease an anxiety free process.
  • It would be nice to have a way to change the name of the long link to send out to potential survey respondents.
  • Mini training guides for organizations to train their employees efficiently.
  • More FAQs on how to handle individuals who are hung up on free software's like Survey Monkey
The software is best used to collect honest and true data to understand the strengths and weaknesses of ones organization.

I am a student and DePaul University and I was a research assistant using Qualtrics for a research study that was conducted. It was being used by our research team and it solved a problem relating to biases regarding our study. An electronic version of our survey was much more convenient for the college students that we wanted to participate in our study.
  • It is very detailed when creating your own questions. Every type of question you would like to create is available.
  • It also has a smart technology with true and false where it pre-fills selections for you, if you want of course.
  • It is very fast and efficient.
  • I can't think of any particular improvements on the Qualtrics systems at this time.
It is well suited for college studies. Using Qualtrics in research related work is huge at DePaul University and it is very easy to access and use, allowing students and staff to create surveys with ease. It also works great with a research analyzing system call SPSS, which is crucial when it comes to studies being conducted and analyzed.

Qualtrics is used by a handful of people in our The New York Times Consumer Insight Group. We typically use it for:
  • Web intercept studies related to ad sales, consumer marketing and strategic planning
  • Qualitative research recruitment for our user experience team
While some studies are completed within a week or two of fieldwork, others are used for trending purposes over time.
  • Customer support - I like being able to talk to someone on the phone who can help me with technical issues related to complex programming issues. Although the support line is sometimes busy, the majority of the time I am able to talk to someone live who can fix my issue in a timely manner.
  • Intuitive programming - Coming from a basic background of survey programming, Qualtrics is the best I've used to date (compared to Survey Builder, Instant.ly, Key Survey and of course Survey Monkey). I like being able to seamlessly copy and paste text into Qualtrics very easily, use display logic appropriately and capture embedded data when needed
  • Top line reporting - I've had success working directly in the Results feature as well as exporting to Excel. Running filters is quite easy before exporting to Excel so that you can analyze various subgroups. I've even pulled in a vendor to run traditional tables using Qualtrics' SPSS file.
  • Cross Tabs - I like that Qualtrics offers the feature, but one of my biggest complaints is that it takes quite a long time to load responses when you need to merge columns or stubs together. Also, you have to merge two columns/stubs one at a time instead of doing all of your merging and running it at the very end. It is very time consumer and inefficient when doing simple things like age breaks, top 2 box, etc.
  • Email response times - While phone support is strong, I recall email support taking more than one business day to get a response for some simple/standard questions. I would like to see Qualtrics invest in online chatting windows similar to retailers to talk through issues.
  • Randomization - Currently you cannot nest response options together and randomize them.
  • Cost per complete - Sometimes we have niche targets that are more difficult to reach. My team has had to purchase additional batches of survey completions. Given that the sample is solely ours and not from a gen pop panel, I think Qualtrics' costs could be a little more client-friendly when it comes to those who terminate vs. actual qualified respondents.
It is well suited when you are under budget restraints and cannot afford a full service vendor. Studies where you are simply looking at total and a handful of easy to filter sub groups such as age/gender/HHI. It is far less appropriate when you need more advanced statistical needs such as segmentation, max diff, etc.

Survey capability across organization and end users.
  • Salesforce contacts and panel member integration. Currently we have custom code to do that. I believe Qualtrics should provide out of the box capabilities.

Qualtrics helps me implement the survey. Its selected template and guide helps me to start survey and analyze survey very easily. I highly recommend any company with a research department to starting using Qualtrics. It is very easy to use, and also provides you clear and deep insight after you complete the research. Great web-based software.
  • Easy survey design with question libraries, point-and-click editing, automatic choices, and question randomization.
  • Over 100 different question types including pick, group & rank, drill down, rank order, heat map and hot spots.
  • Select from a variety of Likert scales (i.e. Very Likely to Very Unlikely).
  • Distribution & Panel Management
  • Qualtrics should have better analysis visualizations and charts
  • Qualtrics should be integrated to Facebook, Twitter and other social media so that we can send our surveys on social media channels
Most of time, Qualtrics is well fit for any research. I am very happy with that. I will send out the survey via email (I insert the survey's link).
If we do not have the email list, we may not be able to send out the survey. So I would say if Qualtrics can also provide the email list to the clients, that will be great.

  • Qualtrics is an incredibly robust online survey tool that combines immense customization with your surveys, but in a very easy to use interface.
  • The Qualtrics support team and account managers were great to work with and provided quick support when needed.
  • Qualtrics has almost every type of survey or test question you could want built in. If a feature isn't present, there is usually a way to work with them to create it or program it yourself
  • Rearranging questions within Qualtrics can be a little clunky at times.
Qualtrics is best suited for any sized company that is consistently asking for feedback. Whether that's internal or external. As long as value is be taken and used from the surveys than I feel Qualtrics is an immense value. It is more advance than other free survey tools, yet still easy to use by anyone. Finally, they are setup to help out in any area of the survey process, whether it's creating a sample group, assisting in writing questions or even analysis. None of these though are "pushed" on to customers and instead are available only if needed.

Qualtrics isn't good for one-off or occasional surveys. Even at their minimum response level, it does cost money. If you are doing a quick survey only once or twice a year with no more than a few hundred respondents, Qualtrics probably isn't the best solution. However, once you use Qualtrics and then have to take a step back to use a competitor, it becomes apparent how much better Qualtrics is.
