We looked at BuildTools' product and it is pretty slick. But in the end, we found that the construction version of QuickBooks did everything that we needed, while also providing the g/l support we needed. QB allowed our field staff to keep doing things the way they were accustomed [to], and only the office staff really changed their processes.

Quickbooks Online, which is a more streamlined product, but it works great and it is super portable. Neither of them are very well integrated into the TurboTax software, even though they say they are. I have given feedback many times about how the integration from QB to TurboTax and Mint.com are very flawed.

I briefly used Cerner at another employer and have recently had some exposure to CPSI - I think QuickBooks is much more user friendly than either of them.

I have used the "big box" ERP systems like SAP, Oracle, and QAD. Although QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise does not have some of the functionality of those bigger ERP systems, it does make up for that in ease of use. The accounting system in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise is easier to manage and easier to use than many other systems.

We migrated away from Made2Manage and found QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise to be considerably more user friendly and because it's such an industry standard finding support when we needed it was far more available and far cheaper.

QBE offered the class & location structure detail that was not available on other systems. That's primarily the reason we went with it. It is a little frustrating that the level of detail is not available a cloud software because our team is virtual.

We moved to Odoo from QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise due to the far advanced inventory management, planning, and control features. As a basic example, Odoo maintains multiple values for each inventory item, so we can easily see outgoing, on hand, and incoming inventory levels. Another big factor was the cloud-based solution which allows us to maintain a live inventory connection to our eCommerce store, and instantly sync order information to Odoo, which required an external plugin that involved a manual process with QuickBooks. Finally, Odoo has a fully-fledged manufacturing feature, with routes, work instructions, etc, while QuickBooks is limited to "Build" orders which are very rudimentary for serious manufacturing needs. We simply outgrew the capabilities of QuickBooks.

Microsoft Dynamics SL is a robust accounting suite that I've used at other companies, but it's just too complicated for use in a small business. The configuration requirements are too burdensome for a small company that may not have a full-time IT department and accounting team.

Its been a few years since I've use ViewPoint ProContractor, but the thing that stands out the most in my memory is how difficult it was to change ... almost anything... for the original that was entered. In the real world, changes occur - whether a wrong invoice number or date were keyed in or a customer price change - the office has one number and the customer has another (signed by the owner or project manager) number. These types of changes were time consuming at best in ViewPoint ProContractor. In QuickBooks they are quick and simple.
Having said that - inadvertent changes is the main downfall in QuickBooks - there is no way to "hit the redo" button once the Save button has been activated. If a change to an invoice or bill is being made and the outcome of this change in every area of QB is unknown then a screen shot needs to be taken first of the original bill or invoice in QB before the changes are made and the other areas affected are reviewed for accuracy.
