I'm the sole employee and QuickBooks program has been the best decision I could have made for the organization. We are a very small not for profit and even though we don't have a whole lot of income/expenses/line items, QuickBooks works very well for us. The only issue I encounter is when dealing with new sales and customizing our own invoice/statements.

  • Detailed summaries

This is a great accounting program for our small business, but will work just as well for larger organizations. Very simple to use.

Quickbooks for Mac is awesome! I use it for all my accounting needs. It is labeled as the #1 accounting software for small business or non-profits businesses. I would highly recommend it to anyone in need of reliable, dependable, and easy-to-use software. For those that don't have too much experience with accounting software, this one will be easy to navigate through, especially for owners that don't have a bookkeeper or accounting dept, QuickBooks for Mac will help you get things done easily. I highly recommend it!
  • Downloading Bank & credit card account transactions
  • Easy to access reports
  • Easy to record transactions
  • It needs improvement in integration with other softwares
  • It needs non-profit improvement
Quickbooks for Mac is just the perfect accounting software to use. It includes everything you need.

I have used Quickbooks Desktop for Mac for about 4 months. I wish I could get my money back but I'm outside the 60-day window that they allow for full refunds. Overall, my experience with Quickbooks for Mac has been the largest train wreck that I've ever experienced. Tech support is incredibly hard to get a hold of and once you do, they tell you that you have to call back for another department. How insanely difficult it can be to just talk with a human. Once you do get the right department, they put you on hold for hours trying to figure out what is wrong. I've done a clean install and re-booted a million times. I am so incredibly disappointed with my purchase decision that I am now looking at Quickbooks alternatives. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROJECT TO ANYONE!

QuickBooks Desktop for Mac is being used by myself for personal transactions while QuickBooks Online is being used by the organization. It handles my bookkeeping, budgeting, and tax preparation needs.
  • Accounts are easily created and managed.
  • Reports are easy to create and read.
  • Data entry is simple and easy to accomplish.
  • The overall function and features are satisfactory.
  • There was a problem sharing over the internet which forced me to move to online Quickbooks.
  • Getting to a customer service rep is not easy.
QuickBooks Desktop for Mac is well suited for a 1-user scenario. When you try to add two people, the internet connection no longer works.

We use it for our products and sales. It addresses all the accounting reports, invoices, monitor our sales and expenses, plus other accounts.
I use Quickbooks Payroll for multiple organizations to process all aspects of payroll. I have used it for our employees. I also use it to prepare for our monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for government tax agencies. It makes my life so much easier to have all my clients in the same place. I can plan my own work with reminders and to-do lists for my clients. The added features are amazing!
  • Quickbooks payroll
  • iCalendar
  • Mac OS address books
  • Customer support
  • Interface
  • Credit card processing
The software is less buggy and runs more seamlessly, but there are hardly any latest features, and there's still not a single integration, though it is easy to understand and manage, that's why I like it. Entering and sending payroll is a piece of cake. Fairly good functionality.
When it comes to customer support it was quite frustrating to wait for a representative to help me. It took me over 20 minutes, but the good thing was my issue resolved.

I currently use QuickBooks Desktop for Mac for both of my companies. I would be lying if I said I love it. But let me clarify a little - I am NOT a numbers person. I have never had any training at all in accounting or bookkeeping. Like many people, I had to learn how to do things because I decided to start a business and suddenly realized that everything needed to be tracked, saved, etc and did not have the resources to hire bookkeeper. So I learned on the fly. And I'm still learning. It's not the most intuitive software but at this point I'm familiar enough with it that it gets the job done of keeping our books and generating the reports I need come tax time and, more regularly, to see how the business is doing.
  • Adding customers, vendors, employees, etc. is pretty simple and quick.
  • The reports you can generate are excellent and in credibly helpful - get as birdseye view or detailed as you like.
  • On the support side - there has always been discrepancies between QB Desktop for Mac vs. Windows and there's just a lot more out there for Windows Desktop. Plus, Intuit has not been shy in making clear that they'd rather everyone migrate over to QuickBooks Online (which I tried and is terrible), and so the support for Desktop seems to be getting minimized or put by the wayside.
  • In the most recent version (2020) the program crashes WAY too much. I've never had this problem before and I'm hoping that they release updates to fix it.
If you're a freelancer or running a very small business where you do your own bookkeeping I think this is a great option, especially if you're familiar with accounting and bookkeeping in general. If you're not so familiar with bookkeeping, I would say that the learning curve is too steep and you might want to look elsewhere for a more intuitive solution.

I use QuickBooks Desktop for Mac as my primary first-line service to account for all incomes and expenditures. We recently took over the frontline job of accounting from our CPA. I am a new user to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. The desktop version for Mac is the software that I use daily to keep current with income and expenses from deposits, credit card transactions, and all outgoing expenses.
  • All encompassing financial tool
  • Online Tutorials and YouTube self help videos
  • Strong online repository for seeking answers to basic questions
  • Total Cost for Ownership
  • The user interface is not as intuitive as the PC version of the software.
  • QuickBooks Desktop for Mac was very late in publishing the new edition of software
I like how it integrates your credit card statement into the software as well as your companies banking information. You set this up one time, and the feed then becomes automatic. Additionally, the importing of both checking and your preferred corporate credit card is a nice feature. Once you have updated the charge one time for a recurring fee, the following month, the software will automatically apply the same description. This saves a lot of time in updating.

It was being used by our organization for all accounting tasks such as month-end close, posting invoices, posting receivables, etc. It is the first accounting software we have used so it basically allows us to organize our transactions into profit and loss/balance sheets for all our entities. It has a lot of good short cuts to make posting transactions quicker.
  • A plethora of good short cuts.
  • Ease of posting journal entries.
  • The advanced search feature.
  • Managing multiple entities.
  • Freezing during long journal entries.
  • Inability to import journal entries.
  • Meant for smaller businesses, we outgrew QuickBooks.
I would highly recommend QuickBooks to smaller businesses with less than 5 or so entities. It is not appropriate for medium to large-sized businesses with a lot of daily transactions and multiple entities.

QuickBooks Desktop runs our business, it tracks everything, serves recurring invoices and tracks payments. We also use QuickBooks Desktop to track sales, commissions and manage accounts receivables. I use QuickBooks Desktop on a day to day basis to track everything going on across all accounts from sales to expenses to the financial status of our accounts.
  • Manages accounts.
  • Snapshot of the current status of accounts.
  • Recurring templates/invoices and charges.
  • Ability to view reports with 1 click.
  • Sometimes it can be slow to load.
  • More shortcuts or the ability to create my own shortcuts would be nice.
  • Bigger fonts by default, my eyes are getting old!
There is no better solution on the market when it comes to running a business. You have to track your sales, receivables, and P&L on a daily basis to make sure you are on track for your target profit levels. Also, QB is a great way to see the value of sales reps by the revenue they bring in.

Every update I hope to just be able to restore my data without issues. So far, Mac 2020 seems to be OK except for my payables. Since it is a small number of listings, I have gone through and voided the errors. However, someone at QuickBooks Mac 2020 has chosen to use the lightest possible gray type on a white background. It is literally impossible for anyone over the age of 20 to read light gray on a white field I am stunned at having to try to work around this incredible time-wasting flaw. I have always had some ridiculous issues with QuickBooks for Mac and have been forced to keep using it by my accountant because of so many years of buying their software and the need for my company to keep its continuity. Each update is a nightmare to finally get it to restore...and then the fun begins. If I had the time you would have 20 reviews like this from me over the years. SO disappointing and so much of my time and my employee's time wasted getting this software to actually do what I paid for. PLEASE correct the ridiculous gray type so I and all of the many reviews I have found online can see to pay our bills. Pathetic.
  • As long as you have extensive experience with it, it will print checks properly.
  • The strengths would only be forcing people to continue the pain due to longevity in the market.
  • Thinking of all ages of people who have to use the product (i.e. using light gray type on white; light blue on blue). No one cares about color changes. They are distracting and when you can't read through them they are a waste, NOT a new enhancement for the upgrade.
  • Laying things out together for each task - all banking info here; all payables here; and checks should include which type of check to print. Preferences should be included for each type of task, not stored a Google search away. Why aren't all preferences for a service grouped together?
  • QuickBooks search is weak. Unless I can word what I need as they do, my question will be answered in Google not QuickBooks.
After 30 years it should be a LOT easier, not just as hard every single year to get it started after the update.

Quickbooks Desktop is the platform of choice for accounting at my small business. I use Quickbooks Online/Desktop to keep up with my accounting across multiple devices (including iOS, macOS, and from any browser window). It helps me keep up with my bookkeeping, expenses, payroll, billing, and reporting all in one place - and it connects with my bank accounts and helps automate many of the accounting process our business requires.
  • Reconciling my bank accounts is made easy by automated bank connections and rules for re-occurring transactions. I can also transfer between connected bank accounts making sure to not double up on transfers or payments.
  • I love that I can access Quickbooks Desktop via a web browser, iOS, and the desktop app. I live in a mobile world so having the ability to crossover is vital.
  • Payroll. One simple feature that allows me to track employee and employer taxes, make payments, and automate the entire process. All I have to do is hit approved and the rest is done for me. I love it!
  • One regular bug I experience with the desktop app is the "shoe came untied" error. It seems to happen all the time but is usually fixed with a restart. Just a minor annoyance.
  • There is so much QB can do, it's hard to know how to use it. I'm no professional accountant so I'm not familiar with most of the reporting and functions that are useful - so better training and support for noobs would be helpful. That said, I've noticed a ton of resources, I just haven't taken advantage of them - so it's probably more user error than QB's problem - though I suppose I haven't felt that learning new things within the app are the easiest.
  • I have had a specific error where one of my banks is only importing 1 credit card, rather than all 5 of the cards on the same account. I think this is a Quickbooks error, however, it's possible it may be from the bank side. This is an issue I wish Quickbooks would help resolve.
Quickbooks Desktop is very well suited for small business owners on the run who need to be able to access their QuickBooks at any time across multiple devices while handling their own invoicing, billing, and payroll on their own. You can have it on a desktop when you are in one place, or mobile when you need it.

We have been using QuickBooks to manage payroll and expenses for the company. It's been great for the small company size because it's easy to learn and navigate, especially QuickBooks for Mac. The program is easy to use which is a big deal. We don't want to spend excessive amounts of time training employees who could be doing other things for the company. It helps our finance manager to handle payroll and manage bills easily and there is less stress for everyone involved!
  • The program is very easy to learn, the interface is incredibly user-friendly and there are tons of free resources and tutorials available
  • It makes managing payroll really easy for the employee and accountant on staff. No more lost time sheets or late paychecks!
  • Managing bills and paying them has become streamlined and it's great having everything in one place so we don't lose track of things.
  • It's great at getting the timesheets from employee to accountant but the time sheet side of things could be made a little easier to use. Some of our older employees have had a difficult time adjusting to the format.
  • More in-program help/tutorials would be great and expedite the learning process. YouTube and other online resources are great but can be hard to track down in the heat of the moment. We'd love to see some easier help resources within the program that are easy to access.
It is extremely well suited for smaller companies who are trying to manage things on their own without outsourcing too much. The program is easy to learn and doesn't require too much training time before it can be implemented. The online/cloud feature makes it even more accessible to our employees, so it's great. It would be hard for a large company to use it since it is geared towards smaller companies and the interface may become overwhelming with too many inputs/bills to manage.

We use QuickBooks mainly in our administrative department for effective data storage, organization, and preparation. What we find most useful is its ability to prepare our accounting information for import to Turbo Tax. This streamlines our whole operation and makes every April a pleasure rather than a pain! While accounting can often be troublesome, QuickBooks makes everything more efficient.
  • Easy to use interface.
  • Great for exporting tax information.
  • Quality data storage and management.
  • Useful mainly only for intuit products.
  • Often slow and becomes clogged if data amount is too much.
  • Integration across the company is not ideal.
QuickBooks excels at managing accounting data, especially for use in tax preparation, exportation, and importation into TurboTax. It is almost like having another accountant in the office! One area where it is not quite as useful is when multiple users across a company are trying to access it. This process becomes difficult and clunky.

I use QuickBooks for Mac to manage finances for 3 companies and for my personal finances. It is my one-stop for all things financial across multiple companies and allows for quick and easy bookkeeping and accounting.
  • Syncs with my financial institutions
  • Runs seamlessly on my Mac systems
  • Keeps all of my financial information in one easy space
  • Makes Tax season a breeze
  • QB for Mac is not nearly as feature rich as the Windows Version
  • QB for Mac has recently FORCED users to password protect all databases. They SHOULD allow a preference to disable rather than imposing their workflow on the end user. The PW is in my environment [and this step is] unnecessary and a cumbersome waste of time.
  • Mac version can occasionally be a bit buggy
I still feel it is one of the best Mac based bookkeeping products on the market. It may be overkill for personal finances but if you are familiar with using it in business, then using it for personal purposes is a breeze.

Financial management. It is used by the owner of the company and allows us to review financials and reports regularly. We went with QuickBooks for Mac because we all have Apple computers and we can use it for multiple companies. This saves us money in the long run and has more features than the online does.
  • Fast and simple to use.
  • Prints our checks for AP.
  • No access on mobile devices.
  • More informative reporting with graphs and pie charts [would be nice to have].
It would be well suited for someone with multiple companies, because if you use QuickBooks Online it only supports 1 company.

QuickBooks Online has been great for our company as it allows for us to work on accounting, account management, etc., without being tied to a desktop computer at the office. Since I use a Mac laptop, I strictly use the QB App for the Mac. I find it to be faster than the web version, more responsive and allows the important functions I use it for to not be cluttered in a web browser with dozens of other web browser tabs/windows open for other business needs. I've been especially impressed with the continuously added features and improvements in usability.
  • It now works very much like a web browser and allows for tabs and additional windows. I use this feature every time I'm working in the app.
  • It's fast and very stable
  • Any concerns I have would be with QuickBooks Online and its functionality and not the app. The web version is the same as the app so when I do need to use the web version on a PC, the familiarity is there to not miss a beat.
It started off a bit clunky but continuous updates and improvements have made it great and staple. I never have to use the web version now.

We use Quickbooks for our Merchant Services and daily tracking of transactions and banking activity. We also utilize the platform to submit invoices and keep track of our account. In addition, we use it for the barcode swipe capabilities. It is used by our entire organization and addresses all the matters identified above.
  • Barcode swiping
  • Tracking our daily bank account activity.
  • Bookkeeping for tax purposes
  • Tracking of inventory
  • Tutorials for onboarding might be useful. Maybe more videos.
Again I think that it is more user-friendly than some of the other platforms I have used. But I think it does a great job with the tracking of expenses and other activity, but also the integration with TurboTax and other applications. Also, for small businesses, the merchant services work very well.

I have been using Quickbooks for Mac for many years. It is the prime bookkeeping software. I use it to pay bills, track income, generate income and loss reports, cut invoices, and as a backup for my visits to my accounting consultants. I first started out with a program called Quickbooks Pro for Mac, but that had since been superseded by Quickbooks for Mac. It has more features than what I need - for example, the software can link with online banking, but for security purposes, I simply do not take advantage of that feature. As I'm a sole proprietor, I also don't need the "payroll" feature. The software is "professional specific" meaning it can be tailored to my needs as an architect. Writing checks using my printer is relatively easy, but I don't use that feature anymore since I do much of my banking online.
  • Track income
  • Track expenses
  • Generate reports
  • Aids in balancing checkbooks- reconciling
  • Interface with MacOS is good
  • Deleting accounts which have been paid off is difficult
  • Upgrade path is costly
  • After five years, I want to delete all book keeping data. Difficult to do with QuickBooks.
Quickbooks for Mac can do most anything a good accounting software can do. It does bill paying, invoicing, income tracking, expense tracking, can customize income and expense categories, enter vendor information and customer information, do payroll, cut checks, and generate reports for reconciling accounts.

Some firms like mine may not be able to take advantage of the vast arrays of features it has.

We assist clients who use quickbooks for mac with bookkeeping, accounting, and taxes.
  • It is a robust desktop tax software.
  • QuickBooks for Mac has grown up and is no longer considered the orphan cousin of its PC cousin.
  • QuickBooks for Mac now offers most of the features that customers using the PC product are familiar with.
  • Easily convertible to PC for your CPA's convenience.
  • Not much to say in this area, but I caution users who convert their data to PC versions for tax purposes to carefully compare accrual/cash versions between the two software because they may not match.
  • The Mac versions are not comparable to the PC versions. QuickBooks 2017 for Mac will not necessarily have the same features as the PC version.
  • The biggest challenge for most desktop users is what I call version error. That is where clients have one version of the data on one computer and then back it up and use it on another PC. Every year I hear stories about how this resulted in the loss of data because the user forgot to restore the most current version of the data.
For the die-hard Mac user, who is cloud shy, the Mac version is a stable, dependable tool.

QuickBooks (QB) is the software used for all aspects of company accounting. It provides a streamlined approach to controlling cash flow, producing monthly reports, invoicing and quickly allows an overview of the business performance. It also makes invoicing and receiving payments quick and easy to monitor on a daily basis. Reconciliation of bank accounts is normally quick and easy with the ability to link QuickBooks and our bank accounts.
  • Invoicing made easy. It's easy to customize invoices as well as email them in a batch. Great time saver.
  • Reconciliation of bank accounts made easy. It's simplified with the ability of linking bank accounts to QB & matching bank transactions with those transactions posted through QB.
  • Creating reports & customizing reports for my CPA is also done with ease.
  • QB support team has been very easy and friendly to work with as I have had many questions that I need help with from them They have been able to identify my problems and offer solutions.
  • The Mac application has multiple flaws. At 1st I used the app exclusively but now only launch QB through my web browser.
  • Although I have found the reconciliation of monthly bank statements to be easy I did experience 1 month that QB posted payments twice for 3 different batches of credit card payments. The help desk had never seen anything like it before. Hopefully I never see it happen again.
  • The migration of accounts & customers from my previous accounting software was not at all easy and indeed was very time consuming and tedious.
I have been on QB for approximately 5 months and so far it has allowed me to accomplish everything that my previous accounting program did and most of the tasks are more streamlined and easier to accomplish.

If you start from day one using QB in your business it should be great. If you are going to transition from another accounting program to QB I would expect to experience some pain in the transition.

I use quickbooks for Mac to manage all of my finances for my consulting company. It's incredibly helpful to organize receipts and invoices with the multiple clients I work alongside. A large problem it addresses is being able to handle recurring invoices for clients I have on retainer. Interacting with international clients is also convenient as it does automatic currency conversions.
  • Recurring invoices.
  • Multi-platform support.
  • Simplified reports.
  • Improvement for marking receipts as billable or reimbursable - it currently has a few user glitches and unnecessary extra steps.
  • Forecasting tools to visualize anticipated cashflow.
  • Being able to file quarterly tax reports with the pro account (currently it is only offered in the solopreneur version).
For startup companies that don't need detailed accounting software, I would not recommend QuickBooks for Mac because the cost is not worth it compared to some free software options. However, if you are a small company and have some complexity that you want to automate (like recurring invoices), Quickbooks for Mac is an excellent option and is well worth the money!

We've been using QuickBooks for close to 20 years for all of our accounting needs. In the past 7 years, we've added the QuickBook Server capability to enhance our Bookkeeping Department and have found it very useful.
  • Ease of entering vendor invoices as well as credits
  • Simplicity of reconciling accounts
  • One problem I found unexpectedly was that when you are using the Multi-User feature, your reporting is not 100% accurate which can cause problems at times
  • I've upgraded my computer recently to OS 10.7 and have had a few times when my Quick Books quits unexpectedly. This is frustrating and also makes me nervous that I'm losing information
I've only ever used QuickBooks so I can't address other accounting programs that are available - my accountant recommended it originally and we've been happy with it
