Alumni and prospect research. I use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT to review alumni and prospect records. I also use it to record notes of conversations, meetings, and to upload documents.
  • Ability to upload important documents related to an alum, donor, or prospect.
  • Tracking giving potential
  • Remote access
  • Having a specific space to enter alumni, donor and prospect employment information.
  • More distinct records for company or organizational information.
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is well suited for building records and generating reports.

We utilize Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT to manage our constituent records for more than 50,000 alumni and donors. Having all of our information on one platform makes it easy to keep up with each constituent and all of their activity. As a team, we each have our focus in the system and all work to keep the information up to date with an ever changing list. We can track contact information, life and job changes, relationships, class information, donor activity and more. We've also created custom fields to keep track of memberships and engagement. Lastly, we are able to track meeting notes and communication with a contact, which helps with stewardship efforts.
  • Constituent management
  • Maintaining notes on visits and communication with contacts
  • Sending emails to a targeted group
  • Pulling reports are difficult
  • Membership management is difficult as the item is just a custom field
  • Having to switch between web view and database view for certain things is extra time
It's a great tool for managing constituent lists, however, being able to pull great reports can be difficult sometimes. You have to make sure the info you put in is consistent across records in order to get good data. The capability is great, but there is a learning curve to be able to get the most out of your subscription.

I use RE NXT on a daily basis as the Donor Services Manager. I supervise the gift processor. RE NXT is valuable for running lists for gift entry verification. I also use the reporting tools for data review. We also use RE NXT to send marketing emails and gift receipt emails.
  • Email Receipting
  • Gift Lists
  • Easy to Read reporting
  • More attribute options when pulling constituent lists
  • Insights for free
  • Smoother gift processing
The option to send email receipts to donors is a game changer. It increases productivity greatly as it takes less time to email a gift receipt versus mailing one.
I have not used NXT for gift processing as in training sessions other users have indicated changes cannot be made to gifts entered in NXT. Also, there is no batch control report that is needed for reporting purposes.

We recently migrated from a self-hosted Raiser's Edge to Raiser's Edge NXT hosted by Blackbaud. NXT made the most sense at the right cost to continue using as it is a relationship management program that helps us track alumni, donors and friends of the university.
  • Gift Tracking
  • Biographical information
  • Event Attendance
  • Relationships to orgs and individuals
  • Web View and Database view are not synced up - have to use both in order to make certain things work
  • Web View reporting (insights and dashboards) are very lacking in what is available to report on
  • PaperSave doesn't integrate in database view and therefore certain documentation is impossible to get to within Raiser's Edge (EG: fund documentation)
  • Customer service is very lacking - no knowledge of who we are or the issues we've been experiencing. Turns problems back on us saying it's on us to figure out.
Raiser's Edge NXT is well suited for small shops that do not have a lot of specific needs as it relates to reporting on data. It's less appropriate for organizations that desire to have a robust integrated reporting tool. Data needs to be exported in order to do this. Also, be prepared to have terrible customer service and functionality taken away.

We use Raiser's Edge NXT as a customer relationship management tool. We record interactions with our donors and track the history to keep everyone in our office up to speed on where we are at with that particular donor. It helps a lot to have this tool to reference any time we speak with donors.
  • Intuitive interface.
  • Plenty of options to collect specific donor information.
  • Easy to use notes.
  • Improved search field - allow the ability to search for a name and present a list of search results instead of being forced to wait for it to populate in the search bar to select the record.
  • Allow for other parameters than names, to be searched.
  • Nothing else I can think of...
Raiser's Edge is a great tool for non-profits. It works well with small or large companies and is easily catered to non-profit work. So many CRM tools are more focused on the for-profit world. We hired a new employee and she seemed to learn the software with ease. It helps that we can bring in new people without much effort.

We use RENXT as our database and for relationship management. We are slowly implementing ways our programs team can use it as well as our marketing team. <br>Business problems: there are many!<br><ul><li>Blackbaud has integrations available for things like Zoom, BBGM, etc. However, they are free and don't work well. They say that they will not create integrations themselves because they don't see the worth in doing so. They also will not provide options to improve the integrations or work with the API creators because they don't see it as their job. </li><li>Blackbaud offers several modules that aren't being used by our nonprofit organization. They say it's included for free as part of our package, but they are of no use to us making us feel like we aren't getting full value for the product. There are additional things they could provide that create little to no work on their part instead of the useless modules but they often push back on that and aren't open to negotiating. </li><li>Blackbaud has added things like BBGM to RENXT but they aren't fully integrated. Due to this, users end up with data that doesn't match up. </li><li>Blackbaud indicates that many add-ons have been recent purchases or additions so they are still going through testing. They were not transparent about this when we purchased the product and made promises that they can't immediately follow through on. We are looking at 5 years of being guinea pigs before we MIGHT reap any full benefits. </li><li>Email is very basic and doesn't provide additional functionalities that things like mailchimp do</li><li>Social media module only does Facebook &amp; Twitter</li><li>Workflows option could be more nuanced</li></ul>Business problems the product does address:<br><ul><li>Organization of constituents is done in an easy and straightforward way</li><li>The system is easy to learn and utilize</li><li>There are many modules available that help organize data and make it visually appealing when pulling reports</li><li>Ability to track relationships as well as grants and donations</li><li>Ability to send email communications through an automated system</li></ul>
  • Organization of relationships
  • Organization of constituents
  • Many options for lists & reporting
  • Better API integrations
  • Better customer service related to product changes & integrations
  • Better customized packages for nonprofits who don't use certain modules
Raiser's Edge NXT is well-suited for a small to large sized nonprofit. Very small nonprofits should probably opt for a more basic CRM that more cost-effective. RENXT does provide robust trainings & customer service assistance related to how the product works. There are also ways to voice changes that are needed. RENXT is great for managing relationships and prospects, not so great for marketing & communications or grants management.

We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT in our fundraising efforts and to manage our constituents' interactions with our organization, whether by tracking communications, storing donation histories, or recording their participation in events. It streamlines many facets of donor record-keeping so everything is housed in one place and is easily accessible by multiple staff members as needed, if they are in Administration or one of our facilities, or working remotely in the field or from home.
  • Records donations
  • Summarizes interactions with constituents
  • Lists accomplished tasks as well as those to be completed
  • Shows events supported by constituents
  • Consistent terminology (things labeled differently in NXT vs. database view)
  • Some details not viewable in NXT
  • Frequently glitchy, despite being cloud-based
It is especially useful for those team members that are working in the field or meeting with constituents, but it can be less helpful when certain details are required. Not easy to see some things without knowing to drill down in to further levels to get the data you might require.

I use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT as my primary donor database for our Development Operations. It provides easy-to-use access to prospect information and a simple interface for data entry related to prospect interactions and contacts. Additionally, NXT provides nimble list creation for events and communications related to Development for a community of our size. It is easy to engage new employees and robust for experienced employees to take full advantage of.
  • Provides easy access to prospect information
  • Has an intuitive interface for users of all levels of experience
  • Offers robust analysis
  • Additional report building options would increase user impact
  • A cleaner interface with Google suite for communications
  • easier access to relationship and gift information in prospect profiles, making it closer to the top of the display
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is a marvelous database for field fundraisers. It provides easy and intuitive access to prospect information important for successful interactions. Additionally, it makes contact reporting for field fundraisers very easy. This can be very valuable when enlisting board members or other volunteers in supporting fundraising activities.

I use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT on a daily basis for Donor CRM management, gift accounting, and data analysis. NXT helps me analyze my day and organize my daily communications with supporters. I use the service to log my CRM actions and record important information. RE NXT has a fantastic integration with Outlook 365 that allows it to seamlessly record emails as actions
  • Donor Portfolio Management
  • Data and Reporting Analysis
  • Automated action workflows
  • Functionality of automatic emails
  • Peer-to-peer fundraising integrations beyond "Just Giving"
  • Tracking "Split" gifts correctly
  • More robust online donation forms
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is well suited as a user-friendly CRM for front-line fundraisers. It is very easy to record actions, navigate to different constituent records, keep track of gift opportunities, and track giving history. It is not well suited for the more robust needs of a development office, including queries, advanced email functionality, or donation page creation.

NXT is mainly used by our gift officers and folks that don't need detailed reporting. I find that the capabilities of NXT are not as robust as the database view at the current time. I've been using the database view for roughly eight or more years now, and I've found that NXT just doesn't have the drill-down capabilities of Query in the database view. I do believe that one day it will be comparable to a database view and possibly even a replacement, but there is a lot of development still to do before it gets there.
  • Query
  • Robust Exports.
  • Financial Reports with the same formatting as in database view.
  • The Reporting function of Fundraising has filters that don't allow drill down to the level I'd like.
  • The "view" in an individual's record isn't as nice as the database view - you have to keep scrolling.
I like that the Events within NXT allow you to easily Export the attendee data - this feature in the database view isn't as user-friendly.

Raiser's Edge is our donor database, the central repository for all donor and fundraising interactions. We integrate with Financial Edge as well, allowing us to use RE as an entry point for accounts receivable. We utilize several programmatic and marketing products (Landscape, Constant Contact, etc.) outside of RE, therefore relying on import and export features to move data. Raiser's Edge is our primary analytic tool for fundraising and reporting, allowing us to track our stewardship societies, donor movement, gifts by trustee solicitor, and donor movement through the fundraising pipeline. We formerly utilized the volunteer module, less so recently, but still, use RE as the final repository for all event participation data.
  • NXT's web platform allows executives to find their own data & analysis.
  • RE is almost infinitely customizable, allowing very specific analysis and data collection.
  • Recent security changes have been rolled out quickly, removing core features or requiring quick adaptation on our part.
  • Web view NXT is missing huge chunks of functionality, meaning users must learn both platforms to be proficient.
  • The stability and reliability of the hosted environment can be lacking, although not hosting the data ourselves has security benefits.
Advanced development shops where precision and data-driven decision-making are prioritized stand the most to gain from RE. Many patterns and automation can be created and used by multiple users, but unfortunately, there is a steep learning curve to understanding the full functionality of the product. Training can be prohibitively expensive, both in time and money. We've compared RE to a highly sophisticated racing car in our office before. It's powerful and can do about anything you ask of it if you know how to keep it running and maintained. There are products that are easier to run and maintain, but they don't typically have the same performance.

When we moved to NXT, we were promised things, and none of these promises have been fulfilled. I lost some of the features I really liked. We still have to use the old view sometimes. Our poor data people have to use two systems. I would like to customize my tags; they are useless right now. In the old system, I was able to set my actions up to create a tickler file to remind me. Now, I have actions come up that may not be due for months. For the money we are paying, I don't know if NXT is worth it. I know our person who works with Data is really frustrated. You just don't have good follow-through.
  • Creating actions.
  • The search feature- looking for someone that you can't remember the exact spelling or the first name. If you miss one little thing the name won't come up. There should be a "looser" search like the old system.
  • Setting actions for the future.
  • With the ability to work with tags, I would like to prioritize what I see- it is useless right now.
It is not suited for the people working with the data.

Raiser's Edge NXT has been an incredible product for my personal work style. While our data entry lead primarily uses the database version of Raiser's Edge, NXT is nimble and allows me to track my donor contacts very easily. The search functions are strong and allow you to search by nickname and preferred name. While NXT is not able to deliver the heavy-duty query and report functions that the database version does, the list function is extremely handy.
  • Easy to enter and update actions.
  • Search function for names is strong.
  • Easy to use on mobile apps (phone, tablet, etc.).
  • Would love to see increased reporting capability.
  • Have had trouble closing out "opportunities".
  • Have had trouble removing fundraisers.
I work for a social service agency interacting with donors. I don't enter gifts but am responsible for donor cultivation and tracking. I find NXT to be very user-friendly and intuitive. When I need to do year-end reports, though, I have to rely on the database view for this information.

My company has worked with Blackbaud for over 20 years. When NXT was introduced, it was a definite upgrade from the database version. NXT makes it very easy to record donor interactions, project reports, and geographical studies. Because NXT is a cloud-based platform, it is easily accessed anywhere. Using your phone, I pad, computer, etc. makes it very convenient when traveling.
  • Email recording of communications.
  • Geographic reports of donors.
  • Easily use voice to text to record actions.
  • Easily upload pdf and jpg attachments to a donor file.
  • I would like to have a query function similar to the database.
  • Upload or managing bulk actions from NXT would really help.
When traveling to meet donors, it is great to have everything easily accessible. Contact information, the ability to record actions, and detailed donor information are very helpful. Before NXT, these functions were not available without a computer; now, the cloud-based software is so much easier.

NXT is our gift management and database management software. Through it, we utilize lists, projections, wealth screenings, and overall database organization.
  • Gift management.
  • Gift reporting.
  • List building.
  • Running queries.
  • Bringing over old actions from RE.
  • Running lists for communication.
Great for on-the-go access and convenience to your database and gift reports. It falls short on some features we had grown used to in the original RE. Still, go back to the old version for some queries and reports that we couldn't move over the NXT. Overall a very dynamic and customizable platform.

We use RE NXT as the system of record for donations to our annual appeal and have partnered with other agencies within our organization to record their donors and donations as well. NXT helps us to see a donor's full interaction with our organization in one place, to know how long they have been supporting us and what causes they are interested in. NXT's posting process makes it easier for our Finance office to reconcile our records with our accounts and to automatically create the needed general ledger entries. Overall, it is a solid system, not perfect, but effective.
  • Moves management - perfect for fundraisers.
  • Gift Records.
  • Donor Information.
  • Everything in the database view should be included in the API that drives the web view.
  • "Preferred partners" should be granted the access they need for their products to work.
  • "Preferred partners" should be experts in the data available from RE NXT and how it is structured. We found some of the preferred partners lacked the technical expertise at the beginning of our migration to NXT from RE7.
NXT is good for fundraisers, especially the moves management piece for recording the interactions with a donor/potential donor leading up to and thanking for a gift. For database managers, the system is adequate; some parts of the database view aren't as user-intuitive as they could be or are linked inadequately with the API that drives the web view and links to external 'preferred partners' (e.g., checkboxes).

This is our primary system in the Advancement department. We manage all aspects of our donors and alumni with this product, from complex imports/exports and gift processing in the database view to supporting the fundraisers and creating lists and dashboards in the web view. We use many integrated products to support this work, all under the umbrella of Blackbaud products.
  • The web view is very easy to learn, navigate, and use for less complex tasks and to get non-technical users getting information on their own.
  • Where our data needs not to be limited use, the dashboards can be very helpful with leadership.
  • I implemented (upgraded) Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT at a previous university, and compared to my non-cloud upgrades; it was a dream. And the support five years ago was fantastic.
  • The unexplained outages and random problems are getting worse and more common. I think this is a bump in the road post-Covid, but they need to get a handle on it.
  • The data breach could have been handled better from a communication and support perspective.
  • The chat support level of service has gone down a bit lately, and they need to pay some attention to that. The problem never seems to be solved by the first person anymore, and they point to obvious articles without even trying to understand all the details I shared first. I'm hoping this is a blip as well, as it has been much better in the past.
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is still a great choice in the non-profit world and I have been thankful for the cloud approach and ease of use in my current and previous university where we only have a couple of people to manage the whole database and data needs. Many other vendors with supporting systems for video, research, communications, etc., partner and integrate with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT, which is helpful. It will likely not meet all of your reporting needs, so becoming an expert in Crystal and Excel and/or any other way to get the data out and present is important. I know the web view is where they focus their improvements, but we are a long way away from being able to get off the database view, so plan on understanding both and knowing what to do where.

I currently use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT less often than last year, but I was instrumental in the conversion to Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT seven years ago at our university. I was the database manager and used it for fundraising, connecting with alumni, reporting, and donor relations. Our Advancement Department is currently using it for prospect research as well. In the midst of a capital campaign, the university is making strides in building relationships and projecting revenues over the next 3-5 years.
  • Provides excellent moves management tools to stay connected with donors and alums
  • Provides good metrics for social media and other communication results
  • Provides excellent tools for importing and exporting data
  • Gives great overviews with charts and graphs that assist in telling the story of success
  • With regard to Marketing/Email, it would be great to have additional flexibility in creatively drafting mass emails
  • A matter of preference: search bar - get rid of the dropdown and allow us to search a name and hit "enter" - make it a flexible search
  • I am not sure if this has been updated, but we need to be able to add files to a record (PDF or Excel) without it being added in Actions
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is quite well suited to larger institutions, but even a small university such as the one where I work benefits from using the tool. I would not recommend it for smaller non-profits, but I know that Blackbaud has other options for small non-profits. Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is quite robust, and it has a fairly substantial price tag. This is best used by larger non-profit groups with fairly good-sized annual revenues.

I use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT to input all fundraising donations and donors into the database. Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is used to track our revenue for our finance department, allocate it to the right program, keep track of appeal and event success, and keep track of important donor information and contact points. There are around 44,000 donors in our Raiser's Edge database that can go back to their donation activity as far back as the 1980s. Raiser's Edge keeps track of all things data at the macro and micro levels. I am able to pull donor and query lists as well as really keep track of important information about donors that allows us to get to know them more personally. Raiser's Edge is where all of the donor and donation histories lives.
  • Moves management. Helps keep track of donor touch points.
  • Donor profiles.
  • Intuitive when it comes to entering data.
  • In my experience, there are lots of glitches in the system. System can be down a lot.
  • Lots of nuances that aren't necessarily taught in their courses but learned from experience. Which can lead to many mistakes for gift entry.
  • Unable to make specific changes at times and changes can be irreversible.
  • NXT and database view don't have the same language and sometimes data does not appear on both systems.
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is well suited for mid-size to large non-profits that hire staff to specifically be the database administrator in order for less error to occur. In my experience, learning the system can be difficult and frustrating for a lot of inexperienced staff.

Blackbaud RE NXT is a handy tool in my day-to-day job. It allows me to run lists on actions, schedule emails to be sent to our alumni and donors, and even track data on current constituents we have in the system. I have prior experience with 6 other databases, and in comparison, RE NXT is very convenient to have every tool you could need right at your fingertips and a database that is continuously updating! I highly recommend RE NXT to anyone.
  • Marketing tool for scheduled emails
  • Lists on actions or by constituent details
  • Building reports to data analysis
  • Easier customer support access when having troubles
Being able to track any gifts that have come in from donors is very convenient using RE NXT. I also enjoy being able to track my personal solicitations and how many people that I have spoken to have gone through with donating within the current fiscal year. The system is very user-friendly in any circumstance. I highly recommend it to anyone in Higher Education who is looking for new software!

I use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT in my position as a fundraiser. There are a few advantages, such as being able to see dashboards and gifts quickly. Unfortunately in my experience, as an avid Raiser's Edge user, there are a few frustrations and limitations. For example, I can get a list of gifts for a specific area, but I can't get the addresses or emails of the people who made those gifts. This makes it hard to be able to write thank you notes. Also, in order to look up information about funds, I have to go into RE. I think Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is good for those who are not tech savvy but have too many limitations.
  • List gifts
  • Provide Wealth information
  • Provide an overview of work
  • Lists are not detailed enough
  • still have to go into RE to enter information or it won't show up in both places
  • No information about funds
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is good for a quick look at data. But it does not provide detailed data and I find myself needing to go into RE a lot still, which is annoying. I also find myself having to pull queries when I want specific information. Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is a tool for RE, but still needs a lot of work.

Used to manage all aspects of our donor database. Database consists of ~7,000 active donors.
  • Constituent and record management
  • Quick reporting
  • Robust exports
  • Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT needs better reporting capabilities
  • Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is only good for viewing records, not much else
  • Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT has limited set of filtering and exporting parameters
Raiser's Edge Database View is where I and my colleagues spend most of our time. None of the updates that Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT has seen have been compelling enough for us to primarily use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT over Database view. Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is really only useful to us when we need to look at a record very quickly. Although, Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT removing some functionality and having some recent prolonged downtime has made our overall experience pretty frustrating.

I work at a public university with about 40,000 students currently. We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT for our CRM, coming up on 200,000 constituent records. I am part of the Advancement Services team who manages our constituent data, keeping track of contact information, solicitation requests, employment, donations, acknowledgments and receipting, and basically every interaction we have. We use the database view part of RE NXT while the front-line fundraisers use NXT web view exclusively. I switch back and forth between the two in order to assist fundraisers with managing their prospects.
  • Lists - filters and columns are fairly intuitive to use, and I appreciate that, unlike Queries, it is set up to combine duplicate information into one line.
  • The Needs Attention section provides useful insight into prospects. I like that it includes upcoming birthdays.
  • Actions and newly assigned and other alerts on the Work Center Overview are helpful.
  • Lists: there are filters and columns missing as options. In particular, we use the Volunteer tab for tracking board members. I want fundraisers to be able to find their college/area's board members using a list or in their portfolios using the Volunteer tab as a filter.
  • I'd like to be able to see Fund information in NXT, like the attributes.
  • The Constituent ID (aka the RE NXT unique identifier) should be more prominently placed. I require that field from the fundraisers when I make updates to ensure that we are both looking at the same record. I have had issues with fundraisers sending me ID numbers from the Alias fields that now show up in the Constituent Summary tile instead.
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT works well for filtering and sorting portfolio assignments and helping fundraisers look at their prospect lists in different ways. Entering Actions immediately after a meeting seems to be working fairly well for them; the newer "Copy Action" function is phenomenal for saving time. I wish the filters and column/output options were more extensive, including more Fund specific choices and Volunteer options. Also, I could use an option to see only Actions by a specific fundraiser on specific constituents as well. Even just fundraiser-specific actions for records in their own portfolios.
