We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT for gift entry and donor/prospect management. We reconcile monthly with finance to ensure our fundraising totals tie out with the accounting side.
  • Easy to read format.
  • Prompts before changing things.
  • Intuitive design.
  • Ability to work in multiple views based on preference.
  • Need for things to carry over consistently between web and database view.
  • Better communication regarding outages or down-time.
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is great for gift tracking and donor trends. Not always the most reliable for prospect research.

We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT for all our fundraising work. Tracking donors, logging actions, recording gifts and analyzing our work. Without Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT we would not know which donors are active with our organization and how to continue to engage them in the best ways.
  • Easy login.
  • Easy to attach documents.
  • Ability to edit email series after setting it up without disrupting the whole auto-response series.
  • The list of preferred salutations has the least commonly used ones at the top. Can you reorganize it so the first name is at the top?
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is not appropriate for small organizations with limited budgets. We still have to do a lot of exporting of a list and then cleaning it up in Excel to get the data in the way we need. It's probably a setup thing but we're too far in to fix it all.

It is used as our system to maintain alumni records. We use the email system to maintain connections with our alumni with monthly newsletters and other announcements. From these emails, we are able to solicit our donors, inform them of alumni activity, and other opportunities that steward them to maintain a relationship with their alma mater.
  • Email System.
  • Donation Collection.
  • Reminders to steward relations.
  • Connecting to database can be 50/50.
  • Better tutorials, often have to get answers from other users.
When it works it is great but the main drawback is it is down quite often. I see this in an NXT/Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT Facebook group where people are complaining that they cannot connect to their database. Additionally, it needs better instructions on how to do certain things. We need to get our numbers to meet our constituent limit. Information was not structured to find the answer easily, however they were more than willing to offer virtual assistance at a hefty cost.

We use it to support our solicitors and gain information on our constituents. However, the back end of Raiser's Edge is more helpful for entering gifts, running reports, completing mail merges, and sending emails.
  • Ease of use for new users.
  • Summary information.
  • Prospect lists.
  • Reporting.
  • Gift management.
  • Sending emails.
It is great for solicitors or fundraisers who need summary information, but for a deep dive into a record, we suggest using the back end of Raiser's Edge.

We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT for donor and constituent management. We record Actions and pull lists and make notes and conduct research and look for insights. The product gives us access to our database and insights.
  • Identify constituents within a radius.
  • Identify constituents that need attention.
  • Mobile user friendly access.
  • Great customization.
  • Better training. I believe that some educators are excellent others are clueless.
  • More accurate results in help search.
It provides a user-friendly interface for the more casual user. Great for gift managers that are on the road meeting donors. You still want a good database manager who is in the actual database for queries and merges and data health and upkeep. We enter gifts through the database as well although I believe you can do this in Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT.

We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT for the management of donations for our small nonprofit, which is part of a larger university institution. It takes the load off our organization, which only has a small number of employees doing a lot of work.
  • Capture donor information.
  • Generate reports.
  • Keep donor information secure.
  • Having alerts related to tasks that go into your email inbox.
  • Interface could be more intuitive.
  • Recorded training modules for new employees.
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT works well for a nonprofit of our size, and for integration into a larger institution. I cannot speak outside of my own experience.

We use it to look up donors and prospects and to enter event attendance. We also use it to strategize event locations based on constituent addresses and to pull queries to invite particular audiences to particular events. We use it to pull recent donations in order to create thank you letters to send them and to check the engagement of donors and prospective donors.
  • Displays giving history.
  • Display event attendance.
  • Storage of files.
  • It doesn’t let you copy paste some info.
  • Hard to find info sometimes.
  • Should tell you when profile was last updated.
It takes a long time to find someone if there are people with the same name. It would be nice if it would show additional info in the drop-down so that you don’t have to open each name up and look in their profile to make sure it’s the right person.

We use Raiser's Edge for tracking donations and for maintaining a database of donors and contacts to receive communications from our organization. We track biographical information in the media and notes tab. We occasionally look to see if someone has read or email communications. We pull lists for mailing and various analytical reports. We use the events module in the database vies to do our seating for events. I pull reports on outstanding pledges for our events. In the past we used the action tab but haven't been doing that lately.
  • able to quickly look up donors at events from a phone
  • able to arrange panels to see what you need
  • my coworker uses ResearchPoint in conjunction with NXT
  • I hate how you can't press enter to search for a name. If you press enter it takes you to the last record you opened instead of what you were just typing. Pressing enter is a default habit and it's hard to break for using NXT.
  • When my colleagues enter new info or create new records the info does not carry over properly to the database view and it messes up our records and lists. We constantly tell people not to make new records or do big updates in NXT but they do and the address formats are wrong or the emails don't carry over
  • I still almost exclusively use the database view and will until NXT is as good and functional as the database view. Any time we ask a question about NXT RE reps tell us they're working on it or it will be a feature someday. I'm not willing to give up functionality to use "the new thing"
Overall Raiser's Edge is the industry standard for fundraising and development (not sure why that category wasn't an option in the previous question where we selected our industry) and if an organization can afford it I would recommend it. As far as using NXT specifically, for all the reasons I stated before, I would recommend to anyone that they learn and use the database view if they need to do anything besides look at a donor's contact info or giving history. NXT is not good enough to use all the capabilities that RE has. Until it is I won;t use it and wouldn't recommend it.

Our team uses Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT as our fundraising solution, including donation tracking, event registration, workflow management, and for data and analytics. The web interface offers us ease of access for basic-level users and the back-end database allows more seasoned team members to customize reporting for organizational needs. Overall, we've been very happy with this product.
  • Merchant Services; donation processing.
  • Data management.
  • Easy to use online interface.
  • Automated workflow options are limited.
  • Marketing tools are limited.
  • Integrations can be costly.
The software is pricey and not best suited for smaller organizations. Once organizations have a steady stream of donors, then this is a good next-step software.

Blackbaud is a great service that addresses database management and prospect research capacity in one. I do like many of the functions they offer, both via their “webview” model and via their “database” model. I utilize Blackbaud primarily to complete queries, exports, prospect lists, and wealth data in my current role. I have also used Blackbaud’s Guided Fundraising software for implementation in our stinger calling room.
  • List building, especially with their ability to show prospects on geographic map.
  • Querying within database. Their is a fair amount of customization available, even though the platform itself visually appears slightly dated.
  • Tags, which you can use for a lot of different situations from reminders for gift officers to important notes on constituents records.
  • Customer service could be improved. On many occasions, it has been lack luster at best through years of different representatives.
  • Product roadmap improvements. It seems sometimes products or services are rushed for the sake of being first on the market.
  • More visually improved database format, with more capabilities to easily connect external services.
For mid size higher education fundraising teams that need a reputable database vendor. I would recommend this platform, even though there are areas in which improvements can be made.

I am a daily user of NXT as a major gift officer. I use NXT to track and manage my donor portfolio, plan for future strategy actions, reference it for contact and giving information, and enter all completed donor-facing actions into NXT.
  • Easy for me to use as a gift officer (action entry is very easy)
  • Dashboard style of information presentation is user-friendly for basic information
  • Useful for portfolio management and tracking actions and next steps
  • Frequent connectivity problems that causes information to be inaccessible
  • Difficult to pull some kinds of information without access to "backend"
  • Preset Dashboard "tags" are not relevant and cannot be changed
It is a much more intuitive and easier to use system than classic Raiser's Edge, which I used for several years previously. As a "front-end" user, I find it is adequate for most of my job tasks.

FCHFH uses RE NXT to manage donor relations including giving history, volunteer engagement, giving propensity, etc. This product allows us to assess current donor engagement and potential for growth. The work space is used by fundraisers to assess next steps with donors in their portfolio. Reporting allows us to determine the success of current and past fundraising efforts, giving us the ability to excel with future endeavors and leave failures in the past.
  • Consistent upgrades to make the system even better and easier to use
  • Reporting
  • Analytics to support fundraiser efforts
  • Better interface with Microsoft Outlook
  • Actions that link to users Calendar
  • App for phone/tablet use
This is a significant investment so I wouldn’t be quick to recommend it to a smaller shop with a limited budget. FCHFH pursued the NXT upgrade when it was heading into a Capital campaign and we needed a more robust major donor pipeline. The access to the analytics and reporting allowed us to build out that pipeline with our current donors be assessing their current giving habits and their capacity to give more.

We use Raiser's Edge NXT to track prospect and donor information for our organization - demographics, contact information, giving history, event attendance, actions. It allows us to have one main management system to track important information on prospects and donors. We use this to pull our marketing mail and email lists and is our main record of donations made. It also provides important reporting functionality to help inform our work.
  • Easy updating of constituent contact information
  • The Online Express tool allows donors to give online on our website and makes for easy input of that giving information to records. Online giving forms are easy to create.
  • The Data Health tool helps to identify possible duplicate records.
  • It would be nice to have more customization in some reports -- what types of gifts are included in the main reporting graphs and charts.
  • NXT has simplified gift types (versus database view of Raiser's Edge), which can cause confusion when pulling lists. For example, if you enter a stock gift that's also a pledge payment, the gift type is "pledge payment." However, if you then wanted to pull a list of all stock gifts, that gift would not be pulled in.
  • We would like to see NXT's gift options expand to ApplePay.
Raiser's Edge NXT is a very powerful but also easy to use system that would be beneficial for a wide group of nonprofit organizations. It has a lot of advanced functionality that can be helpful for organizations that need robust support but also can be used by smaller organizations that need a simple way to track their giving information and pull lists.

The frontline fundraisers and other staff use Raiser's Edge NXT, while I - along with everyone else in Development Operations - tend to use the database view (RE 7.) I have about eight years of experience with RE 7, so I am more comfortable with it, but some of the functions that I use it for actually require me to use the database view (Assigned Solicitor assignments, queries, attaching media to records.) However, when I design trainings for the fundraisers (opportunities/proposals, actions, etc.), I make sure to focus on how to do things in NXT, since that is how they interact with the database. NXT is a great way to make the CRM more accessible and intuitive to fundraisers (as opposed to those who work more on the backend of the database.)
  • Easy to use interface
  • Good search function
  • Notifications when you're added to an action
  • Lists are limited compared to queries/exports
  • Need to make more fields have the option to be mandatory - fundraisers are always forgetting to add them!
  • Some fields don't exist in NXT and are mandatory in database view (Note Type within an Action)
  • Search function could compensate for acronym errors (if a user added spaces/periods between letters, e.g. "U S A A" or "U.S.A.A." instead of "USAA")
It is appropriate for frontline fundraisers to use, but for backend users or "superusers," it is a bit limited. I know that Lists are not supposed to replace queries/reports, but some fundraisers feel frustrated that they always have to come to Development Operations to pull things. The Reporting function is a great start, but too rigid. It's annoying that if you add attachments via NXT, they may get lost in a record merge.

Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is our database for tracking donors and gifts, including their contact information and other details. Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT helps us keep all this information in one place so that it is accessible and allows us to run a variety of queries. As a user, I process gifts, add new constituents and run a variety of queries.
  • Easy search of records for names
  • List feature works well for basic queries
  • Periodic updates of addresses
  • I wish you could delete a record or gift in Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT
  • The feature that identifies (potential) duplicate records feels clunky
  • For more complex queries we have to use the database view which feels really clunky and hard to use
I think Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is probably a good option for an organization that's not super large and has fewer records. For the most part, Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT meets our needs, and we can run queries. As I mentioned, for anything that's more complex, we use the database view. What I do like is the Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT interface which is vastly better than the database view. The former is much more logical.

I a lot of my time using NXT as a way of confirmation. We, as a foundation, use it specifically for a donor database, allowing us to identify certain donors to reach out to, or if we receive a distribution, we can easily apply it to the donor's account that's listed. The product allows us to store donor information securely and make modifications when needed. Raiser's Edge 7 is where all the updates are made. It's displayed through NXT. My workload, it's mainly for mailing and account updates.
  • Sufficient Donor Database/Workflow System.
  • Easily Track Giving History.
  • Prospective Donor Identification.
  • Instead of only using Raiser's Edge 7 to display realized gifts, let NXT display that as well.
RE is practically a powerhouse when it comes to the management of donor data. It's very easy to use and to track a donor's contributions and see their giving history as time goes on. I utilize it for that and for making modifications when necessary. I really like the ability to identify each donor with a constituent code, which makes it easier to pull those specific codes into reports depending on different types of information needed.

I use Raiser's Edge NXT to track donors, prospects, events, etc. It allows us to flag constituents for follow-up and accurately records their gift history, personal notes, addresses, tributes for memorial gifts, event participation, etc. We use this functionality to pull reports on appeal and fund performance, as well as query lists of constituents for donor mailings.
  • Track gifts.
  • Tribute gifts.
  • Email generation.
  • The donation form designer is too templated. Little room for creativity and tweaking for more unique needs.
  • Creation of records with online gifts. Constituent and tribute gift records are automatically created for any deviation of an existing record, so duplicate records are likely as people may donate or give tribute gifts with a nickname, middle, initial, etc.
  • The functionality of NXT webview vs. database view. You can't do everything in either view. For example, gifts can be entered in webview but have to be edited in the database view. Webview is convenient for viewing simple donor information, but more complex functions must be done in the database view. It's a lot of back and forth and is challenging for a new user to grasp.
  • Generating acknowledgment letters is more complicated and requires more steps without the ability to use the Word Merge Wizard. We personalize acknowledgment letters by appeal, so it requires separate exports for each appeal type in the given timeframe and then completing the merge in Microsoft Word. Previous versions of Raiser's Edge (not NXT) were more integrated.
  • Knowledgebase articles are not reliably helpful. There is a definite learning curve, and unless you choose to have a continuous support option (for additional cost), customer support is lacking post-integration.
Our organization is relatively small and does not focus a lot on planned gifts and estate planning. Most revenue comes in through events or specific solicitations. Raiser's Edge NXT would be more advantageous for those who are more strategic in their outreach and efforts with repeated follow-ups, actions, etc. We don't operate that way, so there are aspects of the functionality that are not of benefit to us. Some of the reporting/export options are where we spend most of our time, and the acknowledgment letter process, in particular, is clunky.

We use Raiser's Edge NXT (RENXT) for donor management, gift management, acknowledgment letters, and moves management. In addition to being the Director of our fundraising program, I also responsible for managing the database and acknowledgment letters. We have a very small shop of three fundraisers. To help manage the database, we have hired an independent to help with issues, coding, and pull lists.
  • Relationship management.
  • Gift tracking.
  • Portfolio management.
  • Moves management.
  • Pulling lists.
  • Gift acknowledgements.
  • Training and ease of use.
  • Online donation forms.
  • Duplicate management.
Raiser's Edge is a great program, but it is difficult to use, especially for a small shop like mine. If a friend of mine had a large team with a couple of database administrators, I would 100% recommend Raiser's Edge. For a small shop, I would recommend software with fewer capabilities and less expensive. For my 5,000-person database, we pay $20,000/annually. I enjoy managing my portfolio in web-based software. The user interface is very pretty. I often run into issues with gift batching and have several times committed gifts with mistakes that we have to live with for the rest of our lives. It is hard to use - especially for someone who isn't well-versed in software management like myself.

I use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT every day as a donor management system. This product has helped communication within our organization by allowing team members to see how the constituent has been interacted with by others on the team. We also communicate through Raiser's Edge NXT by assigning actions to each other so no detail, no matter how great or small, is missed. It also allows us to see the donor's giving history and flags us when the donor is about to lapse, has higher given potential, or even has an upcoming birthday!
  • Donor Management.
  • Wide variety of reports.
  • Assisting with data health.
  • More filters for list.
  • More reports available.
  • Customizable Flags.
I am very satisfied with using Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT in scenarios for creating lists, managing data, entering data, pulling some specified reports, looking at overall data, and benchmarking. It is a very robust system that allows for a very user-friendly experience. A specific time when Raiser's Edge NXT was very helpful would be after our large annual event. We had partial constituents that were created as guests in the events module. It was so simple to convert the partial records to constituent records and enter gifts instead of entering new information for each new donor. One time that it was not well suited to use Raiser's Edge NXT was when we had employees trying to use the system not as how it was designed. However, when used correctly, Raiser's Edge is a pleasant experience for the user to keep track of any type of constituent.

We implemented Raiser's Edge NXT 3 years ago to manage all of our donor information and processes. I chose NXT because of its robust functionality that I had used at other organizations. I helped train three people on NXT, and we used it for three years until our contract was up this month, and we decided to move away from it.
  • Lots of opportunity for customization.
  • Can track anything and everything.
  • Robust reporting.
  • Ease of webview use for frontline fundraisers.
  • Took away ability to create letters from batch.
  • Charges extra random fees in middle of contract.
  • Very poor customer service.
  • Lots of downtime.
Honestly, with the changes in the last few years, it's hard to think of any reason to recommend Raiser's Edge NXT anymore. It used to be the gold standard and a product I loved. However, with the loss of key functionality such as letters, the horrible customer service, and the frequent outages, it's hard to recommend them at all. There are many other products out there that are robust and function well with great customer service.

As a large nonprofit organization, we use NXT to share and track data across our fundraising team. Our database administrative staff use the traditional RE database, but the rest of us exclusively use NXT to view and track donor/prospect outreach, giving, and engagement.
  • Shared, secure access to critical data from any device and location.
  • Ease of integration with Microsoft products.
  • Organizing critical data for each staff person.
  • More report/query options.
  • Some important database fields are not editable in NXT.
  • No option for recording text message interactions with donors.
For large organizations with many users and multiple front-line fundraisers, Raiser's Edge NXT is a great solution. It is user-friendly with the robust behind-the-scenes capability of the traditional Raiser's Edge database. For smaller organizations (budget and number of people), there may be lower-cost alternatives that would provide the necessary capabilities.

Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT (RE NXT) helps Queens Public Library manage many aspects of our fundraising: direct mail, major gifts, grants, events, and bequests. We use RE NXT's cloud-based solution to build our donor database, record donor interactions, track donations, and manage campaigns and appeals. RE NXT's analytics and database features helps us better understand our donors, including their capacity to give, how to segment them, and how to personalize outreach based on the donor's past relationship and interactions with our institution. Occasionally, the service crashes and I am unable to log in. This is the only reason I hesitate to give this product a perfect rating. Otherwise, I highly recommend RE NXT to other nonprofit organizations that are looking for a premium solution to streamline their fundraising efforts.
  • Comprehensive fundraising solution.
  • Robust analytics.
  • Easy to use interface.
  • The cloud-based service crashes sometimes.
  • Expensive
  • Does not contain every feature found in the traditional Raiser's Edge database solution.
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is useful for larger nonprofits that can afford this comprehensive solution to managing donor relationships and streamlining various fundraising efforts. It's perfect for direct mail and moves management for major donors. Smaller nonprofits will find it too expensive. The solution can help track grant donations, but it is not a grants management tool.

We purchased Raiser's Edge NXT to move our organization to a new level of data management (moved from GiftWorks) and to support our continuously growing, small organization. We receive much support from individuals, civic organizations, and schools from across the globe. Our hope (which we expressed before purchasing) was to streamline our data management and move away from using multiple platforms to accept donations (one-time, recurring, and peer-to-peer). We also track peer-to-peer fundraising for multiple reasons (annual contests and sponsorship tracking). This required a lot of manual tracking, and NXT promised to move us to "a click of a button" type of data management.
  • Support has been helpful and easy to use.
  • The look and "feel" of NXT is nice.
  • Several features like actions, appeals, and relationships have been helpful in our communication management.
  • We were told in 2020 of the many things NXT can do - most of those were not true.
  • We were told by all BB products "talk to each other" from high-level executives. This also turned out to be false, resulting in us purchasing outside products to connect BB products together and requiring a lot of education to learn how to manage this connecter product.
  • Features in NXT were supposed to be available in 2021 - many have still not come to fruition, and we manage data using database view and NXT.
Well suited for people who have been using the system for a long time or organizations with basic needs that do not require multiple BB systems to be connected. For the cost of the system, it is clear that BB is not focused on supporting non-profits. They are a for-profit company, and though they have wonderful lower-level staff, the overarching goals (unknown to me) do not seem to align with a non-profit needs.

We use NXT as our donor services management software. I specifically use the web view as I am a fundraiser and use it for creating actions, reminders, and gift development.
  • The ability to see my actions on the front dashboard.
  • The ability to customize the dashboard for my own preferences.
  • The actions are not always correct. I will "complete" one but it will still show up as incomplete when going through the dashboard.
  • I wish I could pull a report based on constituent code.
Overall, I find NXT helpful and a useful tool in my fundraising efforts. There are a few tweaks I would make to increase efficiency, like the way emails are built in the marketing tab and for actions to be completed without having to "complete" them twice.

We use NXT to manage our donor database of about 140,000 constituents for a large, public university, including alumni, parents, students, etc. My main concern is how frequently the platform or specific platform functions go down in outages. On Giving Tuesday, one of the largest fundraising events of the whole year, a key tool (RE Database View) was not accessible and down for many hours. This relates to another key concern, which is that our team still relies on the "old" version of Raiser's Edge (accessed through Database view) for some of our key, day-to-day functioning (like gift processing, managing memberships, and pulling specific queries). The cost in time and dollars is high and yet the service is undependable due to frequent outages and there are key functionalities that are not yet available in NXT yet.
  • Holistic View of Constituents
  • Offers Integrations with 3rd party tools for ease (ThankView, Live Alumni, etc)
  • Streamlined Lists functionality to make data reporting and pulling easier
  • Key Functionalities are missing from the new and supposedly updated program (managing memberships, creating and managing appeals, etc)
  • Numerous outages (especially on high-traffic days like Giving Tuesday)
  • Lack of key data points as usable fields in the Insights feature, making them unreportable
It is well-suited for organizations with large frontline-fundraising teams who need their Development Officers to learn the platform fast and manage their day-to-day data entry in a more user-friendly way (compared to database view).
