Easy to Use: Many users have found Recurly to be very easy to use, with a clean and intuitive UI that simplifies payment handling for their staff. The simplicity of the interface allows users to quickly navigate through the platform and efficiently manage payments.

Excellent Customer Service: Reviewers have consistently commended Recurly's customer service for its excellence. Users appreciate the ability to chat with an agent in real-time and receive prompt replies to their questions and concerns. This level of support enhances user satisfaction and ensures smooth operations.

Comprehensive Analytics: Users highly value Recurly's comprehensive analytics capabilities. The platform offers robust features for analyzing new versus renewing revenue, managing subscription plans on an individual client basis, and tracking important metrics related to subscription health. These insights empower businesses to make data-driven decisions, optimize strategies, and maximize revenue potential.

Cumbersome Coupons Feature: Some users have found the coupons feature in Recurly to be cumbersome and tricky to set up, apply, and un-apply for a particular client. They feel that it could be more user-friendly and intuitive.

Lack of Multiple Referral Discounts: Several reviewers have expressed disappointment with the lack of a good work-around for applying multiple discounts for referrals in Recurly. They would like the ability to easily apply a discount to a client account and remove it if a referral ends service.

Limited Customization Options: A common concern among users is the limited customization options in Recurly. Some customers feel that certain features should be optional add-ons to save costs, while others desire more flexibility in customizing dunning, pricing, charge descriptions, and quantity after an invoice has been created.

Based on user reviews, here are the three most common recommendations for Recurly:

  1. Users recommend discussing billing and reporting needs with the Recurly team. This ensures that specific requirements are met, as some manual reporting may be necessary for certain data.

  2. Many users suggest considering Recurly for SMB customers. It is seen as a suitable choice for small and medium-sized businesses due to its affordability and ease of use. Users have also found the support and implementation teams to be exceptional.

  3. While Recurly provides valuable analytics, some users recommend using additional programs for more advanced analytics capabilities. This can help businesses track financial resources more effectively. However, users generally praise the quick and quality support service provided by Recurly.

Recurly is being used by a department. Our client requested its use. We use Recurly to locate our customer's account; as well as assist with adding subscriptions. Payments are also taken. Our client has embedded several links to better assist our customers with the software he sells.
  • Account location
  • I can use the last 4 digits to locate a payment if the customer does not remember the email address.
  • You can use coding to have other needs embedded such as links that can be used to assist the customer better.
  • I would like it if an agent accessed Recurly for any reason that it tracks it using the agent's name or login information.
  • The time stamp on refunds processed can be confusing as it sometimes shows midnight when we don't, as such, I would like to see a change in that.
  • Would like if the report for transitioned showed who completed the transition.
Based on what I use Recurly for, I would say it is suited for contact centers that handle subscriptions and have the need to take payment. I have noticed though, that if you are not very technical, Recurly may not be for you, as coding is needed if you wish to add new things in the customer help section.

We like Recurly because it allows us to serve a broader range of customers than monthly plans. Aside from seamlessly integrating with our current tools. The subscriptions can be tailored to our preferences (think annual plans, prepaid plans, every other month, or every three months billing). The invoicing tool enables our sales force to close agreements without requiring credit card information up front. Once accounts are established, we can always provide a specific URL so clients may pay on their own, decreasing the number of individuals who see their cards and therefore developing confidence.
  • Aside from seamlessly integrating with our current tools
  • Our sales team can conclude deals using the invoicing tool without needing to know payment card numbers up front.
  • Although it's not the cheapest on the market, it meets our needs. We would like certain features to be an add-on as we don't utilize them, which would save us money.
  • Recurly's need for us to generate new passwords every sometime is the one thing I really dislike about it
It's an extremely simple tool to use and browse. Recurly has come in handy numerous times, particularly when it comes to tracking down our members' invoices and payments. I no longer need assistance from other team because the information they provide is so precise and easy to understand. Once you know how to use it, it's very efficient! It basically just takes me a click or two to receive all the information I need. The fact that the documents are time and date stamped is also a big bonus because it makes it easier for me to look for the information I need to access in regards to payments and billing issues.

We use Recurly primarily for B2B billing functions (recurring and one-time.) It is being used by our accounting, customer service, and sales teams. A few years ago, I recommended Recurly to a fashion subscription company and they use it for their direct-to-consumer business. We like to use it because it has a great API and documentation plus the added flexibility to accommodate different customers on different billing set up. It is easy to use across all departments and compliant with PCI-DSS standards.
  • It handles 1:1 and 1:many accounts to subscription set up.
  • It has a good billing customization option (cadence, pricing, etc.)
  • Can easily set up a customer account and invoice - billing link can be generated so no need to take credit card info over chat, phone, or email.
  • Great and responsive customer support.
  • Supports multi-language.
  • It would be great to have an ability to edit the pricing, charge description, quantity after the invoice has been created. For now, you can only edit the bill-to address.
  • It would be great if it has an option not to timeout on a set amount of time. It could be pretty annoying to be asked to login and input 2-step code (if enabled) from time to time.
  • When issuing refunds, it would be nice if it wouldn't create another invoice...just update the existing one.
I think it works best for scenarios where it involves recurring billing. A subscription-based business model can benefit on the platform and maximize its features. It has great customization when it comes to billing cadence, pricing, prepayment, discount options, among others. It also works perfectly with one-off charges so either way, it's a win. It has great integration with Stripe too.

Only the managers have access to it. We use it for recurring subscriptions for customers worldwide. The system send reminders for those using our annual subscriptions that their plan is about to renew (at least 1-2 weeks ahead of time) which is very helpful. Their invoice has a great system of itemizing everything charged.
  • Inform customers of annual renewals about two weeks ahead of time.
  • Easy to add itemized charges to be included with the next invoice.
  • Record invoices.
  • I have multiple subscriptions and often my customers would subscribe to two or more, I wish I could group it into one invoice.
  • Ability to filter by notes - example, private mailbox numbers - rather than customer's name.
Beats Chargebee and Charify - no questions asked.

We needed a solution in sales, as our current payment platform was limited. Recurly has been easy to use, we recieved all the support we need to troubleshoot and has made it so simple.
  • Link for customers to pay for their service
  • Provides email to the customer
  • We have access to see all activity and download receipts if we need to
  • I wish the customer had more visibility into their payments/account info
  • I would like it to be able to integrate with our ability to invoice customers, as not all want to pay with a credit card
I think for us it is just a learning curve as we were using a different payment system before. And now we are using our platform to pay for products and Recurly to pay for their service. Hoping one day we use just one system, but Recurly has been great so far.

Recurly is our billing subscription management tool that we use with most of our customers. It allows us to create customer subscriptions, collect payment details, and bill customers based on their subscription plan type.
  • Recurly provides detailed account records such as when billing for a customer is updated inside our software, renewal information, past due amounts, the list goes on and on.
  • It is easy to view information and quickly update customer billing information when needed.
  • The Support team is quick to respond whenever we run into an issue.
  • It would be great to have the ability to generate a single payment invoice that details all the past due invoices, etc. This can be tough for larger customers that may have multiple in a month.
  • It would be extremely helpful to be able to re-generate an invoice once it's been set up. Sometimes we need to update a customer's company name if it's changed and have to do it manually rather than in the system.
It's a great subscription billing management software and I can see it being used by a number of companies.

Recurly is our go-to product for our subscription monitoring across a number of departments (Marketing, Product, BI, etc). Keeping track of our subscribers throughout the entire lifecycle helps us keep track and optimize LTV. It allows us to track our numbers daily and can quickly see the results each campaigns produced that we can learn from.
  • Tracking subscriptions numbers
  • Automate user outreach for payments and expiration dates
  • Quickly generate coupon codes for use in a variety of campaigns
  • Streamlined integration with other products
  • Setting up default values to more quickly produce coupon codes
  • Page load times are very slow and sessions time-out quickly after short inactivity
If you're tracking of any sort of subscription and it's important to your business then this product can help you. You want a tool that allows you to get setup and move quickly which Recurly does a great job at doing. It scales well and increasing the size and scope of your subscription business is handled well by the platform.

We serve emerging and professional speakers with a unique subscription based service. We offer multiple membership levels with options to upgrade, downgrade, and cancel directly by the user. Implementing Recurly has ended the late office nights manually updating accounts. Its API has also enabled us to monitor user activity in real time.
  • Analytics of new versus renewing revenue
  • Analysis of subscriber retention
  • Managing subscription plans for individual clients
  • We'd like to see the revenue statistics update in real time. Currently there seems to be many hours or even a day before the numbers reflect new orders.
If you are managing a subscription service Recurly is a fantastic solution. If you are a small business with little to no IT background you may have trouble implementing all the bells and whistles offered by Recurly.

We use Recruly to manage the subscriptions and billings of our PaaS. Since the marketing team handles the billing and other stuff around the product here in our organization we are the primary users of Recurly. Recurly makes it easy for us to track various metrics like MRR, active subscribers, LTV and many other metrics all in one glance. The way they built their dashboard requires great appreciation. There are many features in Recurly which makes it very easy to manage subscriptions which otherwise would be very hectic. Recurly is helping us save a lot of time and effort in managing subscriptions and billings as well as giving good insights into our performance. So this is one of those complete solutions which you would love you use.
  • It is very easy to track MRR, which gives you insights into your overall revenues and health of the subscriptions. Though MRR is pretty easy to calculate Recurly puts it beautifully on the dashboard which is very easy to read.
  • LTV, Recurly calculates lifetime value which is a good insight for adjusting Marketing spends. Even this is available on the dashboard.
  • The other features like Subscriber churn Rate, Average revenue per customer etc are really great and would help the marketing team a lot.
  • I really can't think of any shortcomings on Recurly because they have tried to cover all bases well. However, I believe that pricing could be little competitive because Recurly can become quite expensive when you have acquired a good number of subscribers. So apart from price, there are no shortcomings I can think of on product side.
I haven't used any other platform similar to Recurly, however, I can confidently claim Recurly to be a great tool because it makes work so easy, gives great insights for the marketing team and makes all the metrics easily readable for the management. This is one of the complete platforms which handles end to end work.

Recurly is part of our billing software and subscription management service. Finance and Support use the application as well as Sales. This software provides a solution to the problem of quick and easy billing for a subscription-based service. It also helps provide visibility across teams for when clients require an in-depth view of their billing.
  • Quick and easy to set up
  • Simple for the end user
  • Navigation on the back end makes sense and is clean
  • They could offer a lot more customization
  • If you dont fit their one specific use case its hard to mold the process flow
  • Some areas of the software seem redundant
Well suited for SMB or mid-market clients. Anyone with a subscription-based product would find this is an effective tool to use. Specifically, a good starting product and you can add layers of complication as needed, but it offers a solid starting program for your business needs from day one.

Recurly is used primarily in the finance department. It provides a smooth experience for users to make purchases and provides automatic recurring billing. The Dunning cycle also helps with accounts receivables collection which frees up valuable time and shortens the A/R turnover cycle. Recurly provides useful reports for the accounting and leadership team.
  • Recurring billing
  • Collection
  • Subscription management
  • Integration with other software
  • Recording of external payment
  • Customization of Dunning
It is well suited for companies with a monthly or annual subscription model who have many customers paying via credit card.
It is less appropriate for service companies that charge by the hour or have an inventoried product. The invoice interface in Recurly would be hard to customize to meet these business needs.

I love Recurly. It's user-friendlyy, easy to use and easy to bill clients. I am actually trying to get my current company to sign up for Recurly (wish me luck, budgets ugh).

I love it and found it super fantastic. A++++++ Must have for all business sizes from small few people companies to huge corps.

  • Easy layout
  • User-friendly
  • Clean and sharp look
  • I can't think of any but hmm - reminders maybe.

I find it great to use for monthly billing - you add all the info and done. Recurly will take care of the rest for you! It's a fantastic tool - a real must I say.

I used it for 2 years and haven't lately and oh how I miss it. Hope to sign on again soon.

We use Recurly to handle all of our recurring subscription credit card transactions with all our clients. It is how we automatically bill our clients for our service each month. Currently our account management, sales, and engineering departments use Recurly. Recurly solves the problem of having to remember to charge our clients for service each month. It integrates into our payment processing service, and automatically runs transactions based on a pre-configured subscription. They support coupons, credits, refunds, prorated refunds, etc.
  • Recurly is very easy to use. Their UI is very clean and intuitive, so my staff has no problem understanding how to handle payments in Recurly. They just released a new UI, which is currently in Beta, but does an even better job making the user experience great.
  • Recurly really helps reduce the time involved in collecting payment from a client. They have a dunning process which detects when a transaction has failed, and automatically re-tries running the payment several times before giving up. Recurly gives you full flexibility on how the dunning process works, including the ability to send your client payment declined notifications every few days to inspire them to update their payment info.
  • Recurly just added a new feature which can automatically update credit card information from clients whose card has expired. They ping the credit card company (visa, MC, AMEX, Discover) to retrieve new card information for cards who have just gone past their expiration dates. This is extremely handy, and has reduced the number of times we've had to contact our client to get updated billing information.
  • Recurly has excellent customer service. You can chat with an agent and receive an instant reply to your questions. I love this.
  • The coupons feature is a bit cumbersome. It can become tricky to set up, apply, and un-apply coupons for a particular client. If you have special billing cases where you discount for a few months or give a client service in any irregular fashion, using coupons can become tricky.
  • We have a referral program with our clients where they receive a perpetual monthly discount for each client they refer to use. The client receives this discount as long as their referral remains active with us. We would like to be able to apply a discount to a client account, and have the ability to remove that discount in the event a referral ends service with us. In some cases a client has referred several clients, and we would like to apply a discount for each referral, and still have the ability to remove one or more discounts as referrals begin and end service with us. Currently there is no way to do this in Recurly. There isn't even a very good work-around, which is disappointing.
Recurly is particularly well suited for SaaS business models where the pricing is standard, and there are little to no discounts involved. If your business has a variable pricing model, you may want to really dig around using their "Sandbox" trial to make sure it will be a good fit for your business.

Recurly is used in our organization as a reoccurring billing solution option for our customers. Recurly is used primarily in the accounting/finance department of the company. Recurly addresses the problem of maintaining numerous customers and being able to accurately billing them on a reoccurring basis.
  • Recurly does a excellent job providing support and documentation for both the user-side of the program and the developer side of the program.
  • Exporting reports is one area of Recurly that is lacking. In today's business world, accountants need the ability to easily custom make reports to be able to fit their business needs. Right now we must spend resources to pull numerous reports and reference them with each other to get the information we need.
  • The ability to automatically prorate the 1st invoice and to be able to set default renewal date of for new subscribers would be a great feature to implement.
Recurly would be best suited for a company that had the resources to implement Recurly's API. If a company had limited resources, I would make sure that they where aware of the limited reporting.

It's used for recurring billing for one of our clients. The organization uses it to manage their subscription billing, as well as their general day-to-day billing needs. It addresses issues involving storage of sensitive data and PCI compliance, as well as provides a catch-all solution for billing without in-depth integration.
  • Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance
  • Recurring billing
  • Security
  • API documentation
  • Pricing
  • Native clients (e.g., Python)
Where recurring billing and subscriptions are primary concerns, Recurly is a cut above the rest.
