What is Remember the Milk?

Remember the Milk is a task management and to-do list application from the company of the same name headquartered in San Francisco. Users enter task's properties in one line, including due date, priority, repeat, and tags. And then users get reminded by email, text, IM, Twitter, and mobile apps (Android, iOS, BlackBerry 10). Users can create as many tasks as required, and make lists both organized and colorful with tags.

Remember the Milk also allows subtasks. Subtasks break tasks down into smaller, more manageable pieces. Users can create any number of subtasks for a task, and those subtasks can have their own subtasks, too. Lists can be shared, and files can be shared with others through lists through integrations with Google Drive, and Dropbox.

Remember the Milk also provides a search wizard so users can more easily locate tasks. And its Smart Lists are special lists based on search criteria (e.g., high priority tasks due this week) to ensure the most important tasks are not missed, or tasks that are continually postponed are completed, or just to help the user look for some quick wins. The wizard features almost 50 different search operators.

Remember the Milk is available with apps for the web, Mac, Windows, Linux, Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, Android phones & tablets, BlackBerry 10, and Fire. And while an integration with Zapier is featured, Remember the Milk also offers MilkScript, to make it easy to automate a wide variety of things—for example, creating tasks from templates, removing unused tags, generating task reports. The Basic plan is free, and the Pro Plan is available for $39.99 per year, and unlocks advanced features (e.g. advanced sorting and grouping, integrations with Zapier and MilkScript automation, subtasks, themes, tag colors, attachments, and priority support among other features.

Remember the Milk is used to manage all tasks, both personal and professional, keep notes related to those tasks, and set reminders. We can add tasks directly from Gmail without leaving the inbox at all. The added tasks can include a link back to the original email, and of course, you can add the due date, add to an appropriate list and tag the task. A really useful time-saver.
  • Mobile App
  • Quickly enter new tasks
  • Reminders
  • More native project management features - replace our project management apps
Personal and team task management - Remember the Milk also now works with Google Assistant, so it's possible to tell the Assistant to set up a new task, a reminder, or tell me about what is due and what is coming up. A native Windows app, integration with Zapier and IFTT makes this an invaluable part of our productivity suite.
  • Saved multiple hours each week per user
  • Todoist: To-Do List & Task Manager
Very similar features. Remember the Milk has been around for longer and has constantly been improving by adding features such as integration with Zapier and IFTT; enabling attachments from Dropbox and Google Drive; integrating with Google Assistant and Siri; and smartwatches. Unlike many other apps, RTM makes it easy to import and export tasks.

Remember the Milk is a great way to track personal and professional tasks, as well as lists. It is a great brain dumping tool and is helpful for when I want to remember many different things, maybe even across multiple projects. I like how there is a mobile app as well, so I can add to it on the go.
  • Mobile app
  • Assign tasks for others
  • Lists as well as tasks
  • Some features locked behind a pro account
  • Maybe be a lot of features for someone who just wants a simple task app
  • Sometimes easy to confuse task item with list items
I think Remember the Milk is a great tool for managing tasks and information. However, it depends on what the person is looking for. If you are looking for just a simple task management tool without any bells and whistles, this may be a lot, as it has a lot of advanced features (and even more if you go pro). If you are looking for a more robust task management tool with the option to add priorities, tags, categories, and assign tasks to others, this may be more suited for this. It is also helpful for managing lists like shopping lists or project lists.
  • Allows me to see my tasks at a glance easier and stay on top of things
  • Lets me manage my personal and professional lists easier
  • Allows me to share or delegate tasks to others when necessary
Google Tasks is a much simpler task-keeping interface, and I use it for the most important tasks on my phone. It does not offer tags, priorities, or distinguish between lists/tasks. It does let me star tasks, but does not let me determine the priority levels. I can also move tasks to different lists, but they can be hard to manage if there are too many, so I generally do not use this feature.

For me, Google Tasks is ideal for very simple "I need to write this down" type tasks that are of high priority. It is not a good brain dumping tool because tasks can easily get lost. This is more for those nagging tasks that I want to do and make sure there is an appropriate alarm for. It also integrates well with my Android home screen.

However, when I have lots of tasks I want to categorize, or I do want to do more of a brain dump type thing, I think Remember the Milk is far better. I can have more control over priorities, tags, assigning tasks to others, and other robust features.

I just use it for myself to manage my to-do lists for work I owe my various clients, and also for my own personal non-business to-do's.
  • Syncs across all platforms and devices.
  • Allows for prioritization in an intuitive way.
  • Has an App in the Apple App store.
  • It does what I need it to do.
Best suited for individual task management and not across an organization where visibility across different users is required.
  • It allows me to not forget my tasks I owe my clients.
The main reason I like it is because it Syncs across all my devices and I like the feature to organize the Priorities by drag and drop
I have had few reasons to call support, the only reason was over a billing issue and they resolved the issue quickly,.
