Valuable Information and Alignment: Many users have stated that Renaissance Star Assessments provide valuable information about students' reading levels and progress over time. They appreciate that the assessments are aligned well with what they are said to be measuring.

Adaptive Tests for Customized Assessment: The adaptive tests feature of Renaissance Star Assessments has been praised by users. It adjusts the difficulty level of questions based on students' performance, providing a customized assessment experience.

Integration and Tracking with Other Platforms: Users find the data synchronization feature of Renaissance Star Assessments with platforms like Freckle and Nearpod to be helpful. This allows for seamless integration and tracking of student performance, as well as assigning lessons tailored to each student's needs.

Missing Features: Several users have expressed their desire for various improvements to the software, including a live view of students testing and the ability to flag questions answered too quickly. Some users also want to see results without having to refresh the form and suggest a trend line starting from the second test. Additionally, users would like to share improvements or problems with students and have a breakdown of data by strand.

Difficult Navigation and Reports: Users have found it challenging to navigate the reports page and suggested a step-by-step manual to explain the data. Some users feel that it takes too many steps to get the desired report and want similar reports for Spanish as are provided in English. They also mention that different reports show inconsistent data, making it confusing for them. Furthermore, they find the graphs inconsistent and confusing to read.

Technical Issues: Many users have reported technical issues with the software, such as slow performance, frequent hang-ups, and difficulty creating PDFs or exporting data to Excel. Some users have experienced crashes that resulted in the loss of an entire class's results. These technical difficulties not only impact user experience but also hinder productivity when using the software.

Users commonly recommend the following regarding Renaissance Star Assessments:

  • Periodically retaking the test to gather progress data: Users suggest regularly administering the assessments to monitor and track students' progress over time. By periodically retaking the test, educators can gather valuable data on how students are advancing in their learning.

  • Taking advantage of the reports: While some users find the reports in Star Assessments tricky to master, they emphasize their value and usefulness with experience. These reports provide educators with detailed insights into students' strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.

  • Applicability for diverse student populations: Users find Star 360 to be a versatile tool suitable for students of all ages, grades, and abilities. They highlight its ability to provide real-time information based on national standards and district achievements, allowing educators to tailor instruction and support to individual student needs.

Overall, users highly recommend Renaissance Star Assessments as a practical and effective tool for educators to monitor student progress and help them achieve their highest potential.

Many of my students reach the 852 score and are eligible to take the Star Reading test in the Spring. This is due to the reports telling me which skills to work on and being able to group students according to skill needs.
When I need teacher assistance, online meetings with Renaissance support personnel has been available. Renaissance always welcomes teacher feedback to improve their products. The company has acquired many classroom tools in the last years and connected them fir ease of teacher use, which saves classroom time.

Renaissance Star Assessments is a tool we use to monitor growth over a period of time. We can use the reports to see what areas of reading and math each student struggles with the most and use that information for remediation. We also use the reports to show students how well they had progressed. That builds their confidence and puts a smile on their faces as they can see that they are capable at succeeding. The parents like the reports so they can see that their children are progressing.

I've used all sorts of classroom assessments and this one is my favorite. This is also because of how the assessments feed information to other parts of the companies ecosystem (like Freckle or Nearpod).

Our school used to use NWEA MAP assessments, which took a lot longer to administer and were often overwhelming for my students. STAR assessments are shorter (usually 34 questions) and cover the same information. As a special education teacher, the variety of reports available for my students is so helpful! I can use the information to develop IEP goals as well as to give parents specific information on their child's academic skills.

Renaissance Star Assessments is well suited for the beginning of the year for all students to see where their strengths and weaknesses lie. Also, when a student comes into your classroom after the beginning of the year, you can have the student take the Star Assessment to adequately assess your new student. Renaissance Star Assessments is also well suited for the middle and the end of the year student growth calculations.

Renaissance Star Assessments are well suited in Math and English middle school classrooms. We get great feedback on how to base our teaching from it. It also provides great data for Special Education teachers. It may be less suited for teachers who teach electives.

Our reading program is built around Accelerated Reader and Renaissance Star Assessments. The tests level students, then each book has an AR level that corresponds to those levels. Great way to individualize and meet students where they are. It is a wonderful way to track reading growth. The growth report with the line plot graph is one I sent home to parents.

With students having age gaps in the classroom it is a great tool to see how to customize the materials to work for everyone while focusing on improvement areas. It has been helpful when a parent has a hard time excepting that their child needs additional support, it puts it in writing.

Star Math is good for providing baseline and growth data to help create individual pathways for students to address gaps created the past couple of years. This data can also be compared to state assessment results and other local data to get a better picture of the whole students and any concerns which may be identified.

Renaissance Star Assessments is a great tool for helping keep up with growth and potential problem areas. It is beneficial for helping keep up with progress monitoring. I like being able to see the student growth chart, and being able to share this information with parents. The Parent Report is also a handy way to let the parents know exactly how their child performed on the testing.

We use Renaissance Star Assessments to see if students are on target for their grade level. If they are lower then they are put in a remediation class, like "Study Skills" to help them get the skills they may be lacking. Data can be compared across grade levels, and can even be looked at across different schools to see if there is a difference in demographics of students, etc.

Star Assessments are great for the early grades teachers because it provides very detailed knowledge about how to help readers grow. Not only does it give a specific reading level, Grade equivalent, Instructional reading level, it also gives a lot of good diagnostic information. This helps to plan instruction, communicate with parents, and differentiate instruction for the fundamentals of success in reading.

Teachers are able to get real data in 20 minutes. They can use this data immediately to set their students up into groups. The Record book is useful but I think it needs to include appropriate lessons to teach the skills identified by the assessment. It is great that it tells you what skills the student needs to learn but how to teach that skill would be helpful so teachers could easily set up groups and materials to run stations in class for all groups.

During the beginning of the year, I feel that the Star Reading needs to be read to to the early childhood students. This way they can still answer questions without having to guess or feel overwhelmed. I love the CBM letter and sounds assessment for easy determining of where students are as a whole.

I feel that it is extremely suited to see the progress of the students throughout the school year. I think that taking this kind of assessment at least three to four times throughout the school year makes it even more useful for reading the data of students progress throughout the school year. I think this data is useful for both the students and the teachers involved with the program.
