Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

I have been implementing Sage 100 ERP (fka MAS 90) for 15 years and prior to that I was an end-user. Sage 100 is an entry level integrated ERP software that a company can use to collect, store, manage and interpret data. It has module suites for financial, distribution and manufacturing business operations and ships with a single-user integrated CRM application.
  • Financial Operations - It has a well structured general ledger module. Very flexible, 32 characters, 10 segments, good reporting.
  • Distribution - Order to cash process is streamlined, integrated credit card processing, off-site storage of CC data (PCI-DSS compliant). Inventory module handles multiple warehouses and complex pricing structures.
  • Reporting - All reports in the system are Crystal and it ships with Sage Intelligence. ODBC complaint for 3rd party tools.
  • End-User Customization tools- The Customizer module allows you to add user-defined tables, user-defined fields, ad scripts to implement business logic. All screens are customizable- add, remove, hide fields and controls, etc..All this with no custom mods and it's upgrade proof.
  • No inter-company: Sage 100 does allow for as many companies codes ( 1 per TIN) as needed, but there is no inter-company processing modules. If you need true interco, there is a 3rd party piece or better yet go with Sage 500.
  • Manuals: There are no true user-manuals, there is extensive "help' but everyone would like to see the user manuals come back. That being said, everything that would be in a user manual exists in the KB.
  • Non-business framework modules: With version 4 Sage upgraded the underlying business framework to more of RDBMS on the back end. The manufacturing modules and payroll have yet to be updated to the new framework.
I have many clients successfully using Sage 100 ERP for distribution. Sage 100 ERP is very strong in distribution. There's continued development on the distribution suite and consistent releases that include requests submitted by customers via vote online. For advanced manufacturing I would recommend another solution or Job-Ops 3rd party piece.
  • Better reporting - timely, accurate reporting.
  • Order to cash cycle faster
  • Accurate inventory stock (QOH, on PO, SO , WO, etc)
I'm a VAR for multiple ERP packages and for the money Sage 100 can't be beat for distribution. For project accounting and advanced manufacturing I would go with another solution.
Sage is constantly developing new and enhanced features and if renewal is expired you don't get them. Also support becomes lacking when when you fall many versions behind. Plus there may be a late pay penalty. Unless you're migrating soon to a new software you should always keep your maintenance current or it costs you more in the long run.

Accounting uses SAGE 100 ERP to process A/P and write checks. The G/L package is used for reporting. Monthly reports are created using BizInsight. Those reports are sent to department managers.
  • Input both of AP and journals is straight forward
  • Account structure is flexible
  • Easy to research
  • Increase ease of getting reports into Excel in a usable manner
  • Easier means of cancelling a report if error is made in criteria selection
Each situation is unique.

We use the software across the entire organization. It serves as the organization's general ledger as well as provides functionality for billing, sales and customer management, procurement and vendor management, and inventory control.
The initial issue that prompted the switch to MAS200 was needing the functionality of a Windows based accounting package. This made employees more productive compared to the terminal based solution previously used.
  • Tremendous value for the cost of the solution
  • Increased visibility into order fulfillment for client facing employees
  • Integration with third party applications to facilitate fulfillment
  • Introducing a web-based "inventory advisor" is a nice step, but Sage 100 would be far more effective as a web-based semi-real-time ERP. Would help better support fulfillment and light manufacturing.
  • On an older version of the application, our team had trouble posting invoices when sales orders were being accessed.
  • Most of our team was self-taught on the application, reducing how well we could use the application. Our perception was that additional training and support was not available.
I think Sage 100 is a very good choice for an organization that is doing light manufacturing or value added reselling. The ability to track customer data, extract information related to sales and returns and construct targeted marketing campaigns allowed our organization to maintain growth in down times. The other bid savings we got from the ERP tool was increased productivity. We had our best year using the revenue per employee and net income per employee metric after empowering the team with this platform.
  • Increased employee efficiency
  • Better customer service through the RMA module
  • Improved planning and allocation through data mining
  • MS Dynamics GP
We preferred the cost point and overall value we felt we got as opposed to the competition
I would put this out to bid, if I were at the same organization. There have been a lot of improvements and changes in enterprise software and my preference would be to find a good web-based or cloud-based tool. Lower overall cost of ownership and improved efficiency would be my target criteria for a rebid of this.
  • Implemented in-house
Yes
We used a phased implementation. Step one was to set up the GL/AP/AR and Inventory pieces. We implemented Customer Master and Sales functionality next. After that we included the service piece and improved tracking of product builds through bill of materials. Subsequent to implementation, we tinkered with different modules, but didn't add anything beyond the core we wanted from the get go.
Change management was minimal
  • Delays. We had an initial timeframe of three months and it pushed to nearly eight.
We had an advantage in implementing the tool in that our director of Ops had been part of the team implementing the ERP for other users so we knew what to expect and were able to avoid a lot of the challenges people sometimes face with implementations. However, the process still took far longer than desired.

Sage 100 Review

We currently use Sage 100 across the company. It drives all of our financial reporting and specific reporting for sales, production, shipping. We also use MAPADOC for our EDI needs.
  • Sage is easily customized, using the Custom Office module, making data collection and reporting much easier.
  • Data input is similar across all modules which makes getting new users up to speed very simple.
  • Inventory, when using Average Cost doesn't always follow conventional rules, when returning items the cost comes out at the current average cost, and doesn't adjust average cost back to what it was before the return which has and does cause problems.
  • Heavy manufacturing, using the Work Order system, is very cumbersome at the moment. Would love to see this streamlined, closer to how Bill of Materials production is done.
  • MRP needs to be easier and more robust.
Distribution and light manufacturing is the sweet spot of Sage 100 as it does these very well. If you're doing heavy manufacturing or you need to see Labor and Overhead it does these very poorly.
  • We were able to convert an acquisition to Sage 100 in 4 months, from acquisition date, mostly because Sage 100 is so easy to use. We had a full EDI system converted in that same time frame. Import and review of data was easy to do.
  • Set up is very simple, not a lot of hidden switches that make other setups complicated.
  • Export of data into other reporting systems is very easy, which makes analysis a breeze.
I've reviewed Accpac, Syspro, SAP Business 1 and Platinum. Sage is far easier to use and setup than Syspro and SAP Business 1. Generally speaking, most accounting software does the same thing, at the end of the day, how easy is it to modify data inside the system and review to make sure that your system integrity is intact. I find that Sage 100 is excellent at these things.
Besides ease of use, we are 100% invested in this product. The company doesn't question how well the system works or the data coming out of it. We have 50 people that are fully trained on how to use the software and are proficient in its use. We are happy with 90% of the system, as no canned package will ever meet 100% of a large company it meets the major needs of our company.

Sage 100 ERP is an integral part of our business operations. We use it for processing invoices, processing payments and generating financial statements (in conjunction with FRx). It allows us complete visibility into day-to-day sales, purchases and cash receipts. We also utilize Visual Integrator to allow Sage 100 ERP to integrate with our CRM as well as our in-house proprietary SCADA software.
  • The ability to implement multi-segmented GL account code structure is an integral part of our financial tracking and reporting.
  • We do not currently utilize departments in AR or AP, but this is a handy tool for companies who wish to be able to report on multiple divisions within the same company.
  • Sage 100 ERP allows for an unlimited number of companies.
  • Visual Integrator (the ability to import and export data directly to and from most ProvideX tables) is an integral part of our decision to continue using Sage 100 ERP.
  • The version we are using currently utilizes two different business frameworks, and this makes IM tracking a bit of a burden, and is one of the reasons we don't currently utilize the PO module. This has been rectified in later versions.
As a back office accounting tool, the GL/AR/AP modules are as good as any options out there for small to mid-sized companies. The IM/SO/PO modules are basic and generic, and can be tailored with little difficulty to just about any industry.
  • Positive: allows for better customer service as well as accurate vendor tracking
  • Positive: allows for real time data reporting for the executive staff
  • Negative: older business framework of our current version makes some integration more difficult
We will continue to use Sage 100 ERP as it meets or exceeds our needs as a mid-sized company for accounting and reporting purposes.
  • Professional services company
