Sage Accounting is used daily for the Charity/Business I work for. From day-to-day purchasing entries, Invoicing and financial reporting. All our purchase receipts are now stored electronically in Sage Accounting (no more searching through filing cabinets) or having the auditors send me a list of receipts they want to see. Sales receipts look professional and recurring invoices can be sent automatically, making life so much easier. Using Bank feeds is another great time saver too.

Sage accounting is well suited to day-to-day invoicing, recording of purchases and storing of receipts. Excellent at bank reconciliations and reporting. Great for recurring invoicing and the monitoring and reminding of debtors.

If you know how to use a computer and have a keen mind for recording details, Sage will help you keep in order your accounts and bookkeeping well-ordered, and easy to understand. Bookkeeping will become a pleasure not a chore. Training can be made easier with the use of Sage University, a valuable resource offered by SAGE.

Sage was with me every step of the way, during implementation. Their support team were excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. Ther arranged callbacks to ensure everything was going ok, and I was able to telephone them at any time of the day or week.

I have found everyone I have spoken with at Sage great, and they have faultlessly been able to pick up from where their colleagues left off.

I was appointed as the dedicated person to work with Sage and implement the changes required. You need to want to make the changes for the better and be willing to work with the Sage team to get a great result. Once we started working with the Sage team, it was a pleasure not a chore.

Staff are always friendly, and patient, always work at a speed that suits you. You are never rushed, and In only a short time they seem to be able to help you make great strides. It has been a pleasure not a chore, learning how SAGE Accounting works and benefits me and the company.
Plenty of free online training is supplied by Sage if required. Sage University (which is free to access) offers a wealth of information and training. It also enables you to become more proficient in lots of categories and gives you annual certification. Help with CPD and make sure everyone is up to speed.
Configrability is just right, you can configure your invoices well, add logos, messages, terms and conditions etc.
You just need to spend time deciding what information you want on your invoices, what options you want and how many configurations you want to make.

Adding our company logo was easy, as was making our company invoice look more professional.

SAGE Support is Excellent, without a doubt the best support team I have ever used. You can contact them 24 hours a day (and I have many a time tested this) and you always get someone who is friendly, and understanding and stays with you until your issue or question is 100% answered. They never make you feel stupid, they are always supportive and genuinely a pleasure to deal with.
No, I have never purchased premium support, and have never felt the need to. The support I have received has always been free and always be excellent. I never have trouble getting through to the support team. I often call them in the evening when I can concentrate and not be disturbed while I am speaking to them. The support team at any time of night have always been excellent.

I reported what I thought was a bug, and simply got stuck. I contacted the support team and soon found out it was not a bug but an issue with the browser I was using. Switched the browser, and had no more issues. I have learned not to struggle and try and sort an issue, just ring Sage and let them sort it for you.
When I first started using Sage Payroll.
I was left high and dry by the company doing our payroll, so decided to take it on in-house. The hardest part was setting it up part way through a financial year and I could not have done it without Sage. I was so busy at the time I had to make all my calls to Sage support late at night (and I mean late at night into early morning). The support team were simply amazing, taking me step by over a couple of evenings, telling me what information I needed, and then helping me input all the information required to get Sage payroll running in time to pay the staff. I could not thank the staff enough for getting me through what seemed an impossible mission.
Sage Accounting is continually evolving, not only meeting the ever-growing needs of accounting and bookkeeping but day to day running of a business. As things become more complex Sage simply makes their software meet the complexities and somehow make it easier to use at the same time. They made making tax digital for VAT child's play.

The mobile app works well for quotes/estimates, invoicing and much more. Just like everything else the app is constantly evolving, you can now upload receipts through the app straight into your accounts. Look at the trends within the app for weekly reports of income and expenses (Money in/money out). Great if you are a mobile worker or self-employed.
Doesn't matter if you are using Sage at work, at home or on another site, it has always worked well. Not being tied to one computer or one site is very important to me, as I often work from home and other sites if needed. As long as you have access to a computer or tablet, you know you can attend to anything.
Sage has been always available when I want it. If there is any maintenance work to be done by the Sage team, you are told well in advance. Maintenance is generally carried out late at night or before the day begins for most of us. It continues to be the most reliable software I use.
Sage Accounting work quickly and performs well, I have never had an issue with it running slow. It integrates with other software swiftly, so no waiting for the screen to load. Error messages are only something I have had when I have done something wrong.
Sage integrates well with other software I use, like Sage Payroll, AutoEntry and Sage HR.
There are several other products that I believe work well with Sage Accounting, that I plan to try in the future, and I am confident they will work as well as the rest do.

We import files and purchase receipts daily, this is a very simple process. You can simply drag and drop your files into Sage Accounting.
Don't be afraid, take advantage of the great apps that integrate with Sage Accounting, you won't be disappointed.
Sage is extremely easy to work with, I struggle to put into words how great the support team are, and how easy and enjoyable they make the learning process.
The level of service just gets better after the sales team has done their bit. The support team do a marvellous job and ensures the software is every bit as good as the sales team told you it was. Nothing is an issue with them, you feel they genuinely want to help you.
Sage has always been extremely professional, and they continue to be professional in their dealings with me.
The offers they had at the time of purchase have remained. They have not sneaked their price up and tried changing what they promised to do.
The pricing structure is fair and offers good value for money. The billing is done through their online system and you can access your bills at any time.
Most contacts only require 30 days' notice, so no need to feel tied in, although I can't imagine why you would want to leave Sage.
Just be open and honest about your needs/requirements and Sage with help you get the right product for you.

Sage Accounting's array of features has proven invaluable, particularly for generating reports for our global senior members. This has significantly enhanced our financial standing. Sage Accounting cloud software managed the company's financial books and records. The software suited very well a small business whom needed to keep accurate records of its finances to maintain compliance with the Companies Act. It also served to maintain accurate records to support asset, liability, equity, income and expense record which supported the company's financial performance. The software had facility for multiple users with different levels of access, and also provided useful reports and dashboards which could be scrutinised by management.
  • Customer and supplier ledger data review is easily done in comparison in particular to Xero. Ledger types are separated rather than combined as 'contacts'.
  • The format of the data presented is clear, both on screen and reporting in multiple formats
  • MTD facility to operate VAT reporting in line with HMRC requirements
  • Bank reconciliation is easily performed, using the 'bank feed' function
  • Automated processes are brilliant, such as uploading purchase invoices or expenses
  • Menu structure is straightforward, and easy for users to navigate
  • Adding notes to customer and supplier ledgers with regards communications
  • Making it easier to change from one VAT scheme to another, when company's grow and need to move away from cash accounting

Sage Accounting is well suited to small business who do not have high volumes of data, and chart of accounts are fairly simplistic in their structure. Different versions of Sage Accounting products should be considered when these criteria become relevant. Sage Accounting is also well suited for businesses who operate solely in the cloud.

Sage 50 is more flexible than Sage Accounting, but both serve the needs of the user very well. Sage 50 allows for more detailed analysis of ledgers and reporting functionality. Whereas Sage Accounting is probably more suited to small business on balance, it just depends on which sector you are working in and what your needs as users are.

Functionality in the team spans both financial and management accounting knowledge and experience, and also data processing and reconciliation support. Both roles work in lock-step complimenting each other. The accountant cannot perform his/her role without a supporting role to complete analysis and reconciliation of data and supply of information.

I am a conscientious worker who has a sound knowledge of accounting principles and expectations on software functionality. I have used Sage products for over 20 years, and qualified with the ACCA. My experience is in industry and have had experience being audited by various external bodies, both private sector and government. This experience lays the foundations for the skillset needed to oversee Sage Accounting.

Sage Accounting is a sound product suited to small business. It provides all the functionality required to blend with a small finance team, tasked with maintaining financial records for their employer. Sage's support functionality is equally important when selecting a software provided, as everyone requires support at some point. Well done Sage for providing such a great array of accounting products.

Having a cloud-based solution is a must today, providing flexibility for use fitting in with lifestyles and working patterns. Ease of use was also equally important, implementing software which did not overly complicate data and information for a small business. This was also important from a training and development perspective, allowing business owners and other users to understand basic functionality.
It's difficult to say how I would change the E&S process, as I always veer towards Sage products due to the value I have placed on them over the years of my career. Sage Accounting suits small business, but for a larger business I would certainly look at Sage's other accounting products, rather than Sage Accounting.
The clients' business owner worked with Sage on implementation before I began working for them. After consultation with them it is clear the process was quickly performed and without complication. The key takeaway was that Sage is seen as a partner to the business. That said, it was always necessary to engage with an accountant such as myself to extract the best out of the software.

Yes, most of the functionality is easy to learn on the job without any formal training. The greatest learning curve is to know how to extract the best out of the software and understand the numbers the software produces from a financial and management accounting perspective, as well as compliance.
I think the product configurability is about right for the customer it will attract. I would say Sage Accounting is the most suited to small business. That said, Sage do enhance certain functionalities if required by popularity or level of risk to the data itself. Sage have other products to offer for larger-scale business.
Don't hesitate to make amendments to the Chart of Accounts to suit the specific business in question. Engage with an accountant to help make these decisions, which also serves to help them. Try to keep coding as simple as possible, and where necessary add more detailed structures to suit reporting and analysis needs.

I've always had great service from Sage. Support in particular for accounting products has always been responsive and knowledgeable. It is also very important to speak to someone who can put themselves in your shoes if you have a difficulty, which Sage consistently delivers on every time I need them. Support also comes in different form, such as Q&A platforms and online guidance for user experiences. Top marks to Sage for all its support!
Premium support provides the assurance you need when in crisis mode operating a finance team. There's nothing worse than instructing your team to log out for an indefinite period, due to, for example, data corruption problems.

I find the notes Sage provide online to assist with understanding exceptional. When I first used Sage Accounting my client was operating the cash accounting scheme for VAT. Initially I did not understand the mechanics of Sage's operation when dealing with transactions. But in this circumstance, which was a problematic area for this client, I found Sage's notes to be clear and concise advising me in the right direction.
I have always been an advocate for Sage products and will continue to be, even with the competition in the market. Sage Accounting's presentation of data is very important to me as a user and an accountant. I would love to see Sage release a replacement to Sage Winforecast, which forecast and consolidated forecasts for multiple departments/cost or profit centres/legal entities.

I do not consider Sage Accounting to be Sage's best product for scaling up business as its functionality for doing so is limited. Sage 50 Accounts or Sage Intaact are far more suited for this. I would evaluate very carefully the possible need in the future for scalability in the first instance before selecting software.
Sage Accounting availability is generally very good. They post messages which appear on users screen time to time, highlighting where functionality in a particular area is undergoing maintenance. More often than not, maintenance is completed in a timescale quicker than initially estimated by Sage. Where significant maintenance is required, Sage usually perform it overnight.
Pages always load quickly, but of course can be hampered by individuals own broadband speed. I haven't had much experience of integration with other software, so cannot comment constructively.

They were very friendly and answered all the questions at the time the business owner in question had. The sales process as slick and once the right product was established there were no difficulties in ascertaining the purchase was right for the business. Where subsequent questions arose, the business owner raised them and they were answered swiftly.
Post sale the vender was easy to work with. There were friendly interactions and the sense that Sage were a partner for the client and were there to support where needed. In the most part the business owner client was looking for assurance the purchase was the right product for them.

Sage accounting is a useful accounting tool for sole traders to medium size business. in my experience if you are a manufacturing company or distributor of products then Sage 50c is the better option.

Quickbooks is not for me i don't like anything about it, the terminology they use is not clear and the layout is not user friendly.

Xero i use in my practice as some clients prefer it. If i have the choice i do use Sage but if the client prefers Xero i will use. It can be difficult to use but i can find my way around to print reports. I don't like that a supplier has to be set up for every payment EG payments to Staff ect it makes the supplier and customer screens very messy

Sage One Accounting is the answer to all our financial/accounting processes. We originally got Sage One to provide professional looking invoices/quotes to our clients and then realised it had solutions for every accounting aspect in our business. Being online, we have access to our accounts anywhere, and that includes raising invoices immediately at a client, as well as updating expenses through the mobile app, no more need to collect receipts and post them to our accountant. Our accountant has access to all our records and does not need to come and see us, or even collect any documents/receipts/invoices from us. He can do all his reports and submissions without having to ask us. Everything is online. Being a small business this has really simplified our admin process as I have to fill many roles including the bookkeeper. Besides being extremely affordable their support is second to none. Whenever I have a question the support team goes the extra mile to assist me, this is key for us, as I do not have an accounting background. The setup and flow of the software is very intuitive and makes accounting easy to understand. I am by no means an expert, but Sage One has really revolutionised the way we manage the business's books. When I started using Sage One, I felt there were certain features that needed improving, and over the course of the year I have seen continual improvements in the package. Sage One is definitely progressive and I am confident that the software will never become stale. The only feature I would like to see added is a summary field for when you are creating invoices (currently you have to do this in Report Designer where you can customise your invoices/quotes), there is a suggestion field in the Contact Us section where I have suggested this, and I am pretty sure in no time this feature will be added.

  • When creating an Invoice/Quote there should be a Summary Field where you can summarise what the Invoice/Quote is about, so that you do not have to go into Report Designer each time to add a custom field.
For small businesses this is a must. I am not aware of any other accounting solution that is so tightly integrated. Get an accountant who knows Sage One and get them to manage your accounts. This is a prefect solution for those who are on the road a lot and who are starting out.
