Some organizations use Spotfire which is far more advanced in terms of its analytical capabilities vs. Lumira/PA etc. but the sharing/storage side of the BI Platform is far superior and much better managed. The ability to create user groups, access levels etc. on BI Platform helps to keep the platform secure.

SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform has deeper analysis, better version control, and a more superior web dashboard access over Oracle API Manager. We were using Oracle product due to our data being in several different applications with different databases where it was not possible to use SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform. Oracle was also slow in releasing feature enhancements where SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform is much more consistent with updates and releases that are better tested with fewer bugs.

On a different company level, we have been using the MS PowerBI platform, a package with a great usability - quickly deployable and easy to use from the beginning. Used the Azure cloud option (needless to say that in a paid version). The main difference would be a scale of usage, however. The Power BI visualizations were really easy to use which is the main difference ...

ThoughtSpot is superior for query speed and simplicity but is inferior in merged-dimension query setup and execution. BOBJ is superior to Tableau in that the universes simplify the queries for the end-user, however, it's inferior in visualizations. decisionpoint is a dashboard tool with potential but is still new. However, decisionpoint is superior in building dashboards on limited technical resources and varying database platforms.

Analysis Services and Oracle Discoverer are more developer oriented than true self service tools and their development capabilities as well as their content delivery is limited. The Symantec layer sets BO apart in that regard. Heavy development is also possible and custom system development kits are available. Business Objects can be deployed with SAP Data Services and SAP HANA to provide a complete business intelligence solution. Varied content delivery types (reports, dashboards,alerts..) are supported. It provides robust security if fully configurable.

I feel that SAP Business Objects tool gives me the competitive advantage over other tools because most large organizations use SAP Business Objects because of its endless scalability. Moreover it has more secured features with restrictions levied at the row level and easy to login options with various authentications to support single sign on.

The biggest advantage that SAP Business Objects has over these competitors are value and options. Value wise, it brings together a tool set that delivers a bit of something for everyone. With integration into Microsoft Office, additional options are available to for those organizations closely intertwined with Microsoft tools.

You can analyze data in a offline mode so there is no need to be online to analyze data. It's easy to interpret the information. You can easily access the data. SAP Business Objects can be compatible with other applications and can also integrate. Dealing with big data can be a challenge, SAP Business Objects provides a solution to manage big data and to have better reporting analysis.

I have used Data Stage; plug and play extractors help to fetch data from SAP CRM/ECC. It reduces the ETL job design efforts.
I have used Tableau, the SAP dashboard provides more options in designing legends on charts, in-built hide/show features in charts.

It connects to MS office, XML and other data sources and if you're interested more in reporting, SAP Business Objects is the way to go. If you have a large company with a big budget, and you’re looking for a highly scalable BI tool that integrates with a number of applications, then this application will suffice.

Business Objects SRC is more flexible than other products and that is especially important in a company where each division is completely different in how they operate, their KPIs, and their operating functions. It allows finance to decide what information is important at that time and does not take months of IT resources to meet management's immediate informational needs. Reporting and budgeting is easily updated when there is an addition or a deletion of a line of business. Finance is allowed to dice the information in any way to satisfy the current needs of the business.

We selected SAP Business Objects in the previous instance because we were implementing SAP ERP and the choice of Business Objects was favorable from an integration and cost perspective. We did not choose SAP Business Objects most recently because of the predicted long implementation times, high cost (without SAP ERP), myriad of required tools, complex security model, difficulty in customizing, and lack of functionality for our specific industry. We felt that Business Objects would thrive more in a typical manufacturing company.

In my opinion, Business Objects stacks up very well against "like competitors". This would include IBM Cognos, Microsoft BI, Oracle (Hyperion and OBIEE), etc. I don't think it compares favorably to the more agile, cutting-edge, and economical leaders in the BI space. This would include TIBCO Spotfire, Tableau, QlikView, Si Sense, etc.
