Data Integration

Crystal Reports is a robust reporting software program that is relatively easy to use once you have a good understanding of the product. It has a variety of capabilities in reporting the data that is queried against existing databases. Once the reports are written they can be provided to various users in the agency who then only need to re-query the data or request and update based on a specific time period.

Data Integration

You can merge data from different databases but unless you know sql you cannot change data types on the joins. You can refresh real time and it is great from a visual perspective

Data Integration

Merging data from different data sources is fairly straight forward and same with real time reporting. We have more issues with exporting the results to various formats since different clients want different things (e.g. can not export directly into PowerPoint).

Data Integration

I've connected to Access, SQL Server, Progress SQL, Oracle and other ODBC data sources. I've also connected to Excel spreadsheets to pull data from those. There are literally dozens of different data sources it can connect to, just about anything really.

Data Integration

Crystal Reports has a wide range of connectivity, but provides a lot of headaches, as it is inherently difficult to edit once the report has been created, requiring you to edit the entire report, like editing a document with HTML or pure source code. Once you try to change the original data, problems tend to arise with tables being dropped and moved at random. These can all be fixed, but the fact that they require a fix really puts me off.

Data Integration

Crystal Reports can connect to numerous data sources. A fews year ago, we even connected it to a state-of-the-art data warehouse platform that was still in beta from the vendor. With the correct drivers installed, Crystal Reports had no problem connecting to the database. One limitation I'm unsure of is NOSQL or big data sources. I see the SAP Lumira (a different kind of reporting tool similar to Tableau) can connect to big data source. With the correct drivers, it's possible Crystal Report can also.

Crystal Reports can take data from multiple, disparate data sources. For example, if you had a SQL Server database, MySQL database, and flat files it could read from all three in a single report.

Data Integration

Crystal Reports supports a wide range of data sources, and usually, minimal configuration is required to get things "up and running". I have not tried merging data from disparate sources, although that is certainly an interesting feature that it supports. Overall, it has met our needs without any major issues.

Data Integration

Real Time is great. It refreshed in seconds and is only dependent on the refresh of your database. If you have transaction data going through, you will be able to see this immediately. There was some confusion when windows was upgraded to mostly 64 bit as the installation needed to be on both ODBC drives. Switching between data sources was really quick and easy, just need to set up DSN connections to various sources. without dictionaries not as user friendly for the average user.

Data Integration

Crystal allows connections to just about any type of data source, including SQL Server, Oracle, Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Access, and even flat files. In addition, queries can be built inside of Crystal to combine different databases and tables into what is required for a custom report to function properly. The data is easily refreshed as well.
