We were working on a supply chain project for a customer where we have build applications on top of the data that is dependent on SAP, as well as a third-party application. 3rd party application data varies quite frequently, which has a huge set of master data and can be accessed via files. We brought this data to SAP HANA on a cloud platform, which gave us access to unify data coming from ECC and 3rd party. It also provided the capability to server better user experience for accessing this data via Fiori applications.
  • Ability to access SAP and non SAP data at one place.
  • Performance
  • Data level access with the help access control.
  • Multiple versions of HANA.
  • Unique and Nice to see Container concepts like HDI, but there's a learning curve.
  • Sometimes unable to understand best practices when looking at performance.
For our use case, we would confidently say SAP HANA was the best-suited approach, as it simplifies the process in consuming SAP and Non-SAP data for applications. However, modeling is very important in HANA. If you are looking at scenarios like storing the images, then this might not be a good choice. We do have to store multiple images for each material for our application provided by the 3rd party that we are leveraging a document storage solution for, but we did tie the links into our HANA data. Similarly, if you are looking for a time-series database I probably would not recommend this too, instead, look for something like Influx or Prometheus.

We use SAP BW on HANA. We use the Native HANA studio and Web IDE tools to develop data views which are consumed my Tableau which helps business makes decisions faster and in real-time.
  • Faster
  • Robust
  • Enhance UI with Web IDE tools compared to the SQL editor.
  • Simplicity
  • Integration with other non-SAP tools.
  • More information on the SAP site from the implementation, administration point of view.
  • Use of wild card fields as we use in ECC security. Example: While adding HANA AP in a role, have "Viewname - Z contract" rather than writing the complete view name.
Faster reporting.

We are using SAP HANA to access the information faster than before. Also, it is being used by our BI department to get history data and build reports/charts in WebFOCUS reporting tool. It is being used by the whole organization. It is offering some insights into hidden information that we would not have obtained before.
  • It does really good if we combine all select statements into one. The information is obtained almost instantly.
  • It is also good in getting info in the calculation and other types of views so other BI tools can access it.
  • It is good at replacing other databases like Oracle.
  • Wish SAP had notified us that without changing select statements using inner joins, it would not become faster.
  • HANA SQL script is a little hard to learn.
  • Same goes with different views. They are a little hard to learn.
It is well suited to get data faster. It is SAP technology, so like other SAP technologies, it takes time to learn.

We have faced the transition for the change to the new ERP and all the structures that support the analytical architecture is based on this tool. It therefore acts as a power base for all DWH, Cloud and DB. The versatility and performance it offers are undoubtedly adequate, the limit we have identified is linked to the lack of connectivity with non-SAP systems.
  • Benefit from a cloud-native solution that delivers scalability, speed, and flexibility, while eliminating information silos with a single instance of data.
  • The advantage of in-memory data platform that combines database, advanced analytics, data integration, and application services, it is certainly one of the strong points.
  • Deepen insights and situational awareness with broad, multimodal, and advanced analytics capabilities.
  • SAP HANA is only compatible to and thus will run only on SAP or SUSE Linux certified hardware. It creates an issue for all the users who want to run it on any other kind of hardware as prices of licensing are very high.
  • Due to frequent SPS releases and updates in the SAP HANA versions, the older version gets outdated very soon. And, it might trouble the user at times as they have to purchase the new update every time and updating is time-consuming.
  • Usually, developers who still continue with their old ways of working with database technologies, are not able to use SAP HANA to its full potential. They only use it as a fast in-memory database, while there are many other features and functionalities that SAP HANA provides.
SAP HANA allows data to store and process in columns as well as rows in the database. Also, many operations can be parallelly processed in SAP HANA as opposed to only a single operation processing in the traditional database for executing one query. Thus, parallel processing increases the speed of operation manifold.

We implemented SAP HANA during our SOH (Suite on HANA) migration. SAP HANA replaced Oracle as our backend DB for SAP ERP. Not only for ERP, for SCM and BW also my organization uses SAP HANA as backend DB.

Since all ERP data is being stored in HANA DB and all other different business applications are integrated with SAP HANA, the features, functionalities, and benefits of SAP HANA not only used and impacted the IT department but also across the whole organization.

The in-memory technology helped business processes to be executed much faster than it was before. In my organization MRP process before HANA, it took 7200 sec and after HANA it takes only 1200 sec. Similarly, process time has been minimized for many business functions like stock reports, invoice processing, Sales order creation, Material availability checking for process order, and many more. Significant improvement has been observed in SCM and BW processes. Not only in business process time, HANA has also helped to simplified the connectivity and integration method with other DBs and applications. Due to its compression capabilities, HANA has also reduced the DB sizes which helped the organization save cost hardware cost.
  • The in-memory technology helped business processes to be executed much faster than earlier it was. Like in my organization MRP process before HANA it took 7200 sec and after HANA it takes only 1200 sec
  • HANA has also helped to simplified the connectivity and integration method with other DBs and applications.
  • Due to its compression capabilities, HANA has also reduced the DB sizes which helped the organization save cost on hardware investment.
  • HANA has also simplified the replication method we used to do with Oracle. It has become very easy for the technical team now to manage the replication for mission critical system.
  • Improvement in HANA Studio to manage the HANA DB is expected.
  • HANA Cockpit is yet to get matured in terms of managing the DB, Backup, Replication etc.
If you need to manage huge transaction data or your Database size is big and has become concern for your organization, moving to SAP HANA will help a lot for size reduction and managing the data.

If performance has become an issue for your business applications, moving to SAP HANA will help since it is in-memory technology. There will be a huge improvement.

SAP HANA is the heart of my department in my organisation. We have well qualified and trained professionals with hands on experience in SAP HANA. My organisation does conduct training sessions in each quarter with some latest updates which includes support package, advanced features, performance & operational point of views. Most of our customers are already using SAP HANA and we are supporting & enhancing their needs. We have migrated many customers from classic ERP to SAP HANA. We are using SAP HANA across the organisation in most of the departments. SAP HANA addresses most of the complex data models with better performance & analytical capabilities. Also it supports most of the data visualisation tools & also supports complex calculation in databases level.
  • Performs complex data models.
  • Performs complex calculations.
  • High performance.
  • Powerful database.
  • Support multiple data visualisation tools.
  • Can improve the UIs.
  • Can improve the processing speed.
  • Can increase memory in HANA box.
SAP HANA is well recommend for fast processing of data models & perform complex calculation on the fly. SAP HANA is an in-memory Database which performs calculation at the database level itself and provides faster results rather than reaching the top layers. This is a unique feature of SAP HANA hence I recommend it to all.

SAP HANA is being used by 2 departments at my organization. Specifically, payroll and E-Learning. It increases the transparency for decision makers and as an analyst, it is easy to understand for me to simplify the setup of views and administration. Authorization is one of the business problems SAP HANA addresses.
  • SAP HANA offers how to map specific business intelligence needs in the enterprise.
  • The reduced data model makes it suitable for analytical processing.
  • The migration to HANA is tedious.
  • SAP HANA could be more flexible and agile.
  • User experience could be better.
SAP HANA is very much suitable for organization having ERP systems. It has more features which make it easier to use and provides a much more robust platform for data usage.

SAP HANA is being used in our organization. Current version is HANA 2.0 sp4. More than 2,000 users are using it. It is being used across the whole organization. Due to its OLAP and OLTP, data access is much faster than other databases. All data is sitting on RAM and not using cache memory like traditional database. So it is being accepted by business users more extensively than traditional Oracle, DB2, SQL server.
  • Data access is faster than Oracle, DB2, SQL server.
  • More useful for reporting than traditional database.
  • OLTP and OLAP is the key factor.
  • For participating of table there is room for improvement.
  • HANA modelling there is room for improvement.
Well suited when we need to search data in a huge database like 5 TB to 10 TB. We get the required data much faster than other databases. HANA backup takes way less time compared to other databases. Table partition is not very useful.

SAP provide the major control over transactions in terms of modification/cancellation of any transaction. The authorization for more than 1 persons is required, so it is not easy to manipulate the thing. Along with that SAP is very user friendly. Some more improvement would help, like readymade balance sheets and profit and loss extractions.
  • The authorization in t code will prevent the unwanted access of transaction.
  • Dual authorization will maintain integrity.
  • The availability of information is good.
  • There must be auto balance sheet.
  • Auto profit and loss.
  • Single click tax report should be there.
For transaction recording and processing it is good but for reporting there is room for improvement, like Area Wise sale graphical presentation of report could have been there.

  • Easy Implementation/ Development.
  • Performance.
  • Easy to transition/application support.
  • Bugs in front end modeling tool.
  • Price.
  • UI Features.
1. For developing Business Intelligence reports (PTM, RTR etc.), either developed on BW (on HANA) or ECC.
2. Data management.
3. Data Analys.

SAP HANA is used by my organisation globally, it is one of the best in-memory databases which helps get the analytics processed and loaded at real time. It is highly advisable for all the industry sectors who want to move on to a digital transformation of their industry. HANA is a very robust database, its feature of multitenancy lets you scale it as much as we want and with new features of NSE, it reduces the cost and brings up more storage and performance. We can run anything on HANA be it a finance analysis, statistical records or a data warehouse. The best-run companies in the world run on SAP HANA.
  • In-memory database, which helps in faster processing of Data.
  • Easy integration to cloud and other platforms using smart data access feature.
  • Modelling and designing views as per our need.
  • It can be more optimised on the cluster tables.
  • More features could be added to it to connect and access data using smart data access.
  • DMO process could be made easier and improved.
SAP HANA is best suited if you are going to run a real-time analytic application, like a cricket score board chart, where it reflects the data every second as it changes. For very small scale industry it is less suited to implement SAP HANA.

SAP HANA is being used across the whole organization for payrolls, employee leave managment, engineering/operation activities such as MOC/PSSR, creating purchase orders, sales orders and process orders. The production planning department used SAP HANA for preparing end month production and consumption reports which were the inputs for the accounting department who used it for financial analysis.
  • Detailed report generation.
  • Easy to use interactively with Excel (data can be exported to Excel or copied from Excel to SAP).
  • Quick access to data input by various departments (operations, maintenance, process engineering) in one platform.
  • Ease of pulling up historical data with filters such as the channel of sales of a product (ship sales, truck sales or pipeline sales).
  • Whenever an error is made in an order confirmation, the reversal process is extremely difficult and the user has to go through several steps to correct it.
  • There is no specific pathway for certain tasks which can be quite misleading for new users.
  • SAP support from online sources is very limited. As a result of that, solving a problem can be challenging if the skilled person is not available.
SAP HANA is excellent for report generation, cost analysis, handling business processes and payrolls. It is an excellent tool for analyzing an organization's production, consumption, losses and gains. However, SAP HANA cannot be used in an environment where data is changing in a real time. Our usage of SAP was mainly for events which had occurred in the past and did not reflect the actual situation at that specific period of time.

We are currenty reviewing SAP HANA Cloud as a solution to advise our customers in their journey to migrate their environments to the cloud. To be able to do this we're conducting a deep dive into the SAP HANA Cloud offering, so that we know what the benefits are in comparison to other HANA cloud and on-premise offerings.
  • It's the way to go for the foreseeable future if SAP HANA is your platform of choice
  • We like the features currently available, but are anxiously awaiting for more on-prem features to make it over to the offering
  • Multi-Cloud deployment options is a huge benefit
  • Remote source connections through SDA to other databases like SQL Server and Oracle are no longer possible. The only way to go would be through SDI, which isn't as optimized and might require additional license costs.
  • If you currently use features like dynamic tiering or R server integration, you need to really look if this is the offering for you at this point in time.
  • The flexibility of downsizing, which is a big advantage of working in the cloud, is at this moment not available (yet).
One of the advantages of SAP HANA Cloud is that it can easily be used to extend your current on-premise HANA system. We haven't tested it yet in a large scale project for instance as the database for an S/4 HANA implementation. This requires further investigation at this time.

It is being used across the whole organization. I am using it to control the stock of railway materials, for example, to request purchases and transfers, analyze movements and stocks, validate material entries, among other activities. Thanks to SAP HANA, we were able to better control the stock in all the warehouses because of the data provided in HANA. For example, it automatically analyzes when we have to make requests thanks to these statistics. We have better management of the history and traceability of materials, and we can also access all associated documents.
  • Good traceability of materials.
  • Good statistical control.
  • Possibility of adaptation.
  • Add descriptions to material positions.
  • Perform entry sheets of a position set.
  • Modify positions already released.
SAP HANA is more suited to industries than service companies, as it specializes more in the product environment. I believe that this adds more value to medium and large companies. In order to apply this type of system, it must be borne in mind that considerable transition/implementation time is necessary in addition to training of all affected personnel.

We implement this across the whole organization.
The main aim of migration to SAP HANA is to extract the data faster, to analyze sales reports and available materials.
  • To extract millions of records took only a few seconds. It helps you to make quick decisions
  • This helps for running reports and queries
  • Definitely in GUI for developers as well as consultants
  • Some additional functionality should be available to manage security. Even though the current security is good, but providing security from non SAP HANA system to HANA systems is a little complicated
This is good when you have high volume of records.
Not suitable for small organizations that have a lower volume of data

SAP HANA solves our performance issues coupled with S/4HANA. It is used in our whole organization (70000 people in 50 countries). All business transactions are actually using SAP HANA, at least for most of our countries.

We also use a secondary SAP HAHA Database to consolidate data and use it for our business intelligence reports.
  • Performance
  • Size
  • Accuracy
SAP HANA is perfect for my company. However for BI scenarios, it's a bit more complicated as the OLAP and OLTP engine is not fast. We are also having a lot of trouble with the CPU usage of the database. The integrated scenarios are ok, they are easily escalated into a productive solution.

SAP HANA had an extended evaluation to become our new relational database to replaced Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise. Our group reviewed it for two possible use cases. The first which was a step one in our evolution, was to use the A4A option where we migrate all of the data to HANA and use Sybase ASE as a front-end for HANA so that we don't have to recode our suite of applications. ASE would use the A4A feature (Accelerator for ASE) where ASE would push down all queries to HANA to be serviced. This would allow us to get the speed of HANA without the expense of retooling our applications to talk directly to HANA. Then step two was to identify which applications would survive long-term and migrate those to native HANA. We were interested in HANA because of the in-memory performance. During our testing we saw query speed improvements of 10,000X. Not 10,000 percent but 10,000 times faster in HANA than in ASE.
  • In-memory performance.
  • Seamless integration with Sybase ASE.
  • Support for ANSI SQL.
  • Support for History Tables.
  • Ability to perform on the fly what if calculations with lightning fast speed.
  • HANA is not just a database, it's really a platform.
  • I wish they would have built-in support for T-SQL since they own that parser from Sybase ASE.
HANA has incredible query processing speeds. When compared with Sybase ASE for large dataset queries, we saw 10,000 times performance improvement. And for the individual point queries, we found that it was on par with Sybase ASE and that is because all of the response time is the round trip latency from the client initiating the query to the database and back. But for those large set processing requests that take a long time on Sybase, they ran 10,000 times faster on HANA. HANA is expensive so it should be used where in-memory transaction speeds are required and there are large volumes of data to be processed.

SAP HANA is a premium ERP solution that is used across many verticals. It helps us to improve performance and save space to create efficiency in processing information. HANA databases are used across all verticals creating better effectiveness in storage and data transfer. It helps us to do real-time analysis of data to make quick and precise decisions over different facets of verticals. The recent version has improved performance and good speed of reporting with data fetching, calculation, and processing. Graphical UI has also improved with new calculation views, CDS views, and AMDP classes. It is highly scalable when it comes to managing big data while maintaining speed, accessibility, and efficiency. The new architecture saves and organizes data in columns and in-memory, which eliminates slow speed and use of excess memory. Overall, SAP HANA is a great solution across all verticals.
  • A huge amount of data can be processed in SAP HANA using parallel processing.
  • Workflows are used to deliver and structure process.
  • Excellent integration with SAP and Non SAP systems--data consolidation is very easy and very fast.
  • Object migration is a big challenge in SAP HANA.
  • The integration of media files is tenuous.
  • Smartphone-based applications and desktop-based applications are completely different.
SAP HANA is great when processing huge amounts of big data. It uses parallel processing to add speed to data analysis. This helps make the process more efficient. Workflows are great to manage storage and transfer of data. We use it regularly across many verticals. It also structures process very well. It integrates very well with other ERP systems, which include SAP SD, SAP MM, etc. For my organization, SAP HANA is a huge challenge when it comes to object migration. Media file integration is tenuous and sometimes may take too long to process. Integration with Google APIs is a huge challenge as it makes the process time-consuming.

SAP HANA is the in-memory database for our SAP ERP installation. We are using the Suite on HANA platform for ERP and BI systems. It drastically reduced our database operation times improving the performances of reporting, APIs, pricing engine, and SCM processed, resulting in better user experience and overall faster responses. It helps avoid bottlenecks in data processing operations.
  • Reduction in database operation times.
  • Increased performances, especially for programs and processed optimized for SAP HANA.
  • SAP HANA works well for the programs and processed optimized for HANA. This may involve additional work for the organization.
  • The migration and the simplification process are tedious.
SAP ERP installations where there is an increased demand on the system from massive database operations like pricing calculation, supply chain route/operations, Saas product integrations like Salesforce and Ariba, e-Commerce, and digital operations. The system performs optimally with the in-memory database, drastically reducing the database processing times. Also, this is the direction SAP HANA is heading, and the traditional database model will not be supported beyond 2027.

SAP HANA is being used for business applications. This In-Memory database helps with performance, real time-reporting etc., when compared with other databases. Also the combination of column and row store is good for OLTP as well as a data warehouse.
  • Faster processing
  • HA and DR capabilities
  • Needs to improve Data Masking, SDA,Eclipse etc
  • Limitations with replication when compared with other RDBMs
SAP HANA is well suited [as an] enterprise reporting solution, in-memory computing helps with real-time data, reporting is fast with large volumes of data especially for enterprise data warehouse, ERP, CRM etc., systems. SAP HANA is the foundation of the intelligent revolution at SAP. At our organization, it is being used everywhere we use SAP. Solution Manager is on HANA, ERP is on HANA, cloud applications are on HANA as well. We interact with it on a daily basis. HANA's in-memory data platform is a true next-generation foundation.
  • In-memory data allows for rapid analysis and processing.
  • HANA enables intelligent services such as machine Llearning with HANA-optimized functions.
  • Because it is in-memory, it is expensive to run. You require large amounts of RAM to run HANA.
If you are an SAP customer already, HANA is the future. The reliability of SAP with the speed of innovation HANA provides makes it a winner. As a new customer, you have a large array of choices in how to deploy HANA. Cloud, on-premise, or even hybrid solutions exist and implementation is quite straight forward.
