SAP Business Lumira is a powerful tool for building Dashboard reports for Top management. It can be used to display reports with interactive charts. Very useful for any kind analysis top management. The multiple option to retrieve data from Excel, SQL etc. is very helpful. Also the inbuilt analytics and formula's are very useful. Option to Share the reports on cloud securely is helpful for customers. The speed of retrieving report data using queries is also very good. It is functionally easy to understand and it's easy to use the tool.
  • Report retrieval Speed is good
  • Nice options to design the report with parameters (Single or Multiple)
  • Easy to understand and use it
  • Multiple Data source options for Report data
  • Share Report Preview on Cloud
  • Unable to change PIE Chart Colors
It is well suitable for all Top management reports. With these report Dashboards one can find useful analysis data

Lumira is used by our organization for marketing and operations sales dashboards. Connecting multiple sources of data was easy. Creating different visualization that conveyed data in attractive formats enabled us to start utilizing the data in a matter of few days.
  • Simplicity of preparing data, setting up a few visualization models and then creating a stoy board.
  • Mulitple graphing & chart options.
  • Need more data connectivity & ability to connect to good analytics or other commonly used data sources.
  • More transformation options. For example connect 2 data sources, merge a few attributes and create visualization.
SAP BusinessObjects Lumira is well suited for:

  • marketing & operations sales dashboards
  • different visualization that conveyed data in attractive formats

It is not being used at all. I evaluated it for purchase but it is not nearly as good as Tableau or even PowerBI. I found it very frustrating and useless. Seems like the goal is to focus on users with HANA - which we don't have.
  • Connections to BusinessObjects Universes
  • Mapping/plotting data was poor at best
  • Number of rows was too small for the analysis
  • Publishing required more licenses (I guess if you have a lot of budget to might like it).
Connecting to a BusinessObjects Universe. Makes it easier to avoid SQL coding for the less adept users

This is a great program to do initial visualization and analysis. Its simple enough that almost anyone can use it and be able to tease out some of the more detailed complexities of a dataset. It should cover all but the most complicated business scenarios and it has the advantage of close integration with SAP data sources. It's certainly worth a look by anyone considering a new visualization option.

I would note that it took a bit of horsepower on my system but that isn't unusual for visualization products such as this one. In general, the interaction was smooth but I would recommend running this with at least 8GB of RAM. It does run well under a virtual machine (Parallels, in this case).

  • Good for dumping it in and exploring the data.
  • Nice job of presenting options for visualization.
  • Decent output format.
  • Some of the dimension capabilities are buried under a weird menu system. One particular visualization required a particular order.
  • The online version is disappearing.
Well suited for initial data exploration. It takes a bit of getting used to but it has a relatively easy learning curve. They could really use some video lesson support for the product but please don't do the canned "non-examples" but go for some real interesting visualizations and then show how to build them.

To create easy to use dashboard alternatives by business users themselves like the adhoc webi report creation. This provides a very quick visualization to understand the data faster than going through the actual data in tables and spread sheets. Sales forecast, revenue recognition are the couple of initial uses which convinced users to adopt this self service BI tool.
  • Good integration with existing BI platform
  • Easy to learn with experience of previous SAP BI tools
  • Improvement needed on the data manipulation
  • Improvement to front end design to match the competitor products in the same space
Good for organizations who already have SAP BI platform, but struggles in other organizations.

It is used by our organization with numerous developers working on it.

It is used by business users to build their own dashboards. It is used by them for slicing and dicing of the data.

They also use it for publishing the data to their colleagues.
  • It is an easy to use tool and does not need any technical background
  • The tool supports almost all the data sources in the current IT sector.
  • Multiple data sources can be merged to derive the conclusions
  • The charts are not very extensive
  • The formula writing is difficult in Lumira and can be improved as it is in SAP Web Intelligence.
  • A free training sessions should be given by SAP when sale the product so that companies don't have to convince users to use Lumira.
I believe that Lumira is set perfectly in the market to be successful, but if something has to be improved then it have to be inter-operability / communication among the SAP products.

I implemented Lumira for one of my clients. It was used as reporting tool for a limited number of users. It was mainly used by sales folks where they wanted to analyze sales data. There were some canned reports also which the users are accessing through launch pad. The tool (Lumira) is very intuitive and can be learned very easily by anyone without any prior IT background. It helped the sales folks get insight about their customers, the price points they are selling, the material etc.
  • Tightly integrated with SAP BI landscape.
  • Very Intutive
  • Cheap Licence Fees Compared to other competitive BI tools
  • Integration with Cloud
  • Quick Sharing
  • Quick Development
  • Good for Analysis
  • Number of Charts types in Lumira seems to be less compared to other tools like Tableau / QlikView etc
  • Color Schemes are limited
  • the Table component in Lumira has limitations like we cannot export entire table components into a PDF
  • Exporting features also needs attention - Like we cannot export to Microsoft Power point
  • The overlapping of components is a tiring job. The components should adjust more dynamically on canvas.
The tool is very well suited for analytics users where they want to analyze data and share the results across the organization.

The tool is not good for EDW reporting.

I currently hold training sessions to instruct business users how to use Lumira for their daily needs and projects.
  • User friendly
  • Great for self-service data exploration
  • Simple and intuitive drill-down features
  • Ability to easily create histograms
  • Better sharing features (similar to Power BI dashboards)
For self service data exploration, it is great. But for complex reports for end users, another platform would be better suited.

I use SAP Lumira to teach BI students about data visualization tools and technology.
  • Visualization ease of use is an industry leader.
  • The ability to segment and create derived data sets is easy and straightforward.
  • Basic transformations and cleansing is easy to learn and use.
  • Flexible joining of data sets needs improvement (currently only one direction is supported making the use of this feature awkward).
  • Adding "targets" and thresholds to visualizations is lacking.
SAP Lumira is really suitable for a heterogenous collection of data sources that needs to be mashed up into one simple presentation. It should not be used to integrated and cleanse data where significant work is required. As such, I see it as a strong desktop tool that compensates somewhat for immature or incomplete BI data sources.

Lumira is used by our organization for giving an integration product to cater to SAP Lumira users. As SAP Lumira gives better visualization, better decision making, we made a plugin to record the objects through Lumira and use it efficiently for better decision making.

Business Problems:
Amazing data visualization, make better-informed
decisions on all types of business data. Start combining spreadsheet data with
trusted enterprise data and share your data-driven stories.
  • SAP Lumira works perfectly well as a stand-alone data visualization tool. If you happen to possess other SAP applications in-house, it instantly becomes an all-encompassing analytics powerhouse.
  • SAP Lumira makes a near seamless jump from being an enthusiast’s pretty graphing tool to a really serious enterprise BI tool in seconds
  • Share actionable insights with enhanced business intelligence reporting
  • Combine data from multiple sources
  • Visualize data and analyze trends
  • Share infographics and data stories
  • Deliver critical information on mobile devices
  • Drive better performance with high-impact dashboards and BI applications
  • Calculated measures with distinct counts not supported on SAP Lumira Server or SAP Lumira Cloud
  • In SAP Lumira, data acquisition from SAP HANA does not support the multi-db feature
  • In SAP Lumira Cloud and SAP Lumira Server, when acquiring data from a UTF-16-encoded CSV file, an error occurs. Only UTF-8-encoded files are supported.
SAP Lumira was mainly used in marketing to analyze potential markets and histories of sales. It was initially small exercises to learn the use of SAP Lumira, which were almost unnecessary because it was so easy to use, and beyond that was an actual analysis of data. We also used it for management reports and were able to use the graphics and features to make understandable charts and graphs.

We are SAP PartnerEdge partners. We develop data and visual extensions to extend the functionality of out-of-the box functionality. Currently we offer vSQL and vOLAP data access extensions. Both vSQL and vOLAP provide a visual interface to generate queries without having to know the SQL syntax.
  • Data access to disparate data sources.
  • Data mashup.
  • Ability to explore the data on desktop and schedule the scenarios on the server side to refresh the data real-time.
  • Trusted data.
  • Extensive mobile device support.
  • Add wow factors to data visualizations.
  • Performance improvements.
  • Native data acquisition capabilities.
  • More SDK support to extend it.
If the customer has a lot of SAP assets both transnational or historical data, connecting to SAP systems to explore the data may be much easier. Also the trusted data infrastructure that SAP offers may be crucial to many customers.

SAP Lumira is a simple tool for data visualizations yet very powerful. I used it for data analysis( personal use). It was used to find the trends for sales in the oil industry. SAP Lumira was used to create a detailed overview of the data along with presentations. The overview of the data helped in quicker decisions and easy comparisons.
  • SAP Lumira has very easy to use interface which makes it very easy to use and it is a big plus. Also, the tools for data alteration are appropriately placed and you need not drill down for simple options.
  • Complete overview of the data on the PREPARE tab provides you with a very good overview of the data.
  • Dashboards can be easily created.
  • Dashboards can be easily created which are simple yet attaractive.
  • Creating custom measures in SAP Lumira can be made a little more user-friendly.
  • Automatically created measures by SAP Lumira can be made more appropriate.
  • More sample report types can be added.
SAP Lumira is most fitted for the scenarios where extraction of information has to be done from raw Excel data. This tool can be used to create a nice and crisp overview, and graphs and thus helps in easy comparison of the raw data. It thus also helps in making quicker decisions.

We use Lumira to provide visualizations of our patented predictive analytics coming from SAP HANA in order to identify how much is tied up in excess inventory and what changes to MRP settings can release it.
  • Strong charts and graphs but also visualizations such as heat maps
  • Ability to add calculated measures, KPIs, and conditional formating
  • Ease in linking to HANA
  • Ability to create standard reports and presentations than can be easily refreshed
  • More ability to share with Non-Lumira users outside of creating PDFs
Lumira is very well suited for presenting HANA data - many options to customize including leveraging predictive capabilities. It is very easy to create your own dashboard - self service BI tool.

We're using it to present data from our SAP HANA and Oracle databases in an attractive, interactive manner. These reports allow users to visualize various parameters of their vehicle fleets, such as maintenance and fuel expenses. For example, they can observe the effect of preventative maintenance spending on overall maintenance costs. One feature we really like is that you can present either a finished report, or allow more ambitious, experienced users to analyze data themselves.
  • It allows you to pull together data from various sources in a reasonably intuitive manner.
  • A plethora of charting options are available making it easy to match the visualization to the data for maximum impact.
  • The user interface isn't 100% intuitive; so it's hard to use right out of the box, but if someone who knows it gives you a tour, you will pick it up right away. We have one person in our reporting department who designed a great, multi-page presentation, and when I asked him how long he'd been working with SAP, he said: "Two weeks".
  • The very modern UI is somewhat sparse in the area of tooltips. It's akin to the first time one tries to use Windows 8. But once you figure them out, it's smooth sailing.
  • I don't like that the Edit Data Source/Universe Query Panel is completely modal, making it impossible to access anything underneath it.
It's better suited to the hands of an experienced developer or data consumer. Also it helps greatly to have a data model that's decipherable by normal people (no cryptic names or abbreviations).

It is currently being used within the Financial Reporting Space but if we purchase the full license then it may be used more broadly. It is used for ad-hoc insight of business questions (such as "what is affecting my product mix?") and also to create dashboards for more repeatable business questions (although Design Studio is favoured for this).
  • Ease of creating visualizations (drag and drop); also prompts you to use the right measures/dimensions in the right axes (making it intuitive for non-it/non-analysts).
  • Intuitive nature of the interface - if you know Excel, or more advanced software, getting to grips with Lumira is a breeze.
  • Sharing/publishing outputs.
  • As it runs on your machine, restrictions on data consumption are quite limiting.
  • Flexibility - would be nice to be able to have more flexibility/customization (scripting etc. like Design Studio); I understand that there are some add-ons available but these are not publicized very widely.
  • Unless using an analyst PC, it is extremely slow.
More appropriate for ad-hoc analyses and less for repeatable (design studio allows better creation of dashboards as more flexible). Lumira is very intuitive though so good for non-IT folk to build and share analyses.

SAP Lumira is an excellent BI, the graphics and performance are awesome. Even though SAP B1 HANA has a decent BI, Lumira provides a lot more functionalities and options to personalize dashboards and reports. The interface is simple and intuitive. There are very few competitors in the market that can step up to this kind of quality. If you're managing your business with SAP, the acquisition of SAP Lumira is a "no-brainer".
  • Intuitive
  • Simple
  • Complete
  • Optimize mobile fuctionality
  • A less complex version (designed for business owners/managers)
  • More detailed graphics (in some cases)
Is more suited to medium to large enterprises (+100 users).

SAP BusinesssObjects Lumira has greatly benefited my productivity during my work. It has greatly helped me and aided me in getting my work done efficiently and effectively. It is easy to use and has a great user interface, thus making it suitable for newcomers to adopt. Lastly, it is able to transform work productivity into cost savings for my organization.
  • Easy to use
  • Great UI
  • Does jobs well
  • Costly
  • Needs more customization & control
The data visualization features were amazing! I couldn't believe that a computer programme could accomplish such sophisticated tasks where data is well presented in a manner that is visually appealing. However, it takes some time to get used to the features and such. I hope there would be more instructions/tutorials available for new users.

SAP Lumira is an incredible visual analysis tool that allows us to provide dashboard & reporting samples to our current prospects. We aim to show SAP Lumira with each new deal we are involved in. This is mainly being used by our presales team even more so if the prospect is interested in reporting.
  • Ability to create multiple charts
  • The share component of Lumira is a great function which we currently use.
  • The UI is extremely user friendly, easy to use and understand
  • The ability to load existing data sets so you don't have to always build reports from the ground up if you already have some created.
  • It takes a minute or two to fully load, I feel that is too long of a delay.
SAP Lumira is a great visualization tool that helps us drive the story home around SAP's reporting/dashboard capabilities during our demos. It gives the users the ability to create their own reports and share with others.

It is being used to help executives see and understand the trends in their business.
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to stand up
  • Easy to create professional looking dashboards.
  • Only downside I see is the need for a stand alone app server, it would be nice to put on an existing server.
SAP Lumira works great, might not be the best solution for someone looking to get to line level details. It is great for executive level reports, dashboards, score cards, etc. It is great for visualizing different scenarios, especially sales related. It has great mapping features as well that allow you to look at trends geo spatially.

We use SAP Lumira for a couple of use cases. The first is in our clinical performance improvement area. We use it there to visualize the data we use to track our clinical pathways. I also use it in my job to analyze information about my department (ticket, employee hours, etc.).
  • Lumira does a great job of seamlessly integrating with my SAP (HANA, BusinessObjects) data sources.
  • Because of that integration, I can better govern access to the data and make sure it is correct.
  • It makes it very easy to share created analysis through the BusinessObjects portal.
  • The biggest problem we have is when someone is already familiar with another tool. People just don't like to change.
SAP Lumira is a great fit for my organization because we really need governance and integration with our enterprise business intelligence platform. I can make the same content my users have access to in other reporting tools in a sexy new tool.

From a user perspective, it is a very easy tool to use. You can easily interact with charts. The look and feel is awesome when compared to earlier BO products. I used this tool for customer POCs. When the user wants to see the live data it is really helpful. Customers who use live data (airport information, call centers), can easily use this.
  • Lumira enables higher management to evaluate budgets and expenses by using combined data on customers or products to discover results and performance.
  • [It works well when] a sales team or mangement needs to quickly identify focus areas in their sales and other areas.
  • For an audit purpose, they can define the reports and graphs easily.
  • Built in with BO suite is good, users need to take separate licenses for using this.
In SAP products this is the only tool from a look and feel perspective.

The principal business problems that we solved with SAP BusinessObjects Lumira was data visualization and BI analytics for finance in industry.
I'm computer engineer and I think this program helped me a lot to improve my skills In BI, data mining, etc. This programs helps a lot to solve the problems.
  • Easy to create dashboards without coding
  • Allows [you to] select Excel, delimited, HANA, SQL, Oracle, column date, number format, etc.
  • Can apply different filters to different visualizations, however compositions need to be changed.
  • Sharing features like publishing to team, BI platform and before publishing giving rights like controlling whether the receiver is only to view or edit to collaborate.
  • Make it more easy to use.
  • Creating custom measure is a bit time consuming.
  • No option to zoom in visualization room.
SAP BusinessObjects Lumira is more useful than another solution.

We are implementing SAP Lumira for the end users to have a self service dashboarding experience. Currently, its implementation is restricted to Finance but there are plans to expand across whole organization. Reduces dependency on IT for the reports and the flexibility of slicing and dicing the reports instead of static reports.
  • Visualizations: Easy to create visualizations for deep data discovery analysis especially with the trellis charts where more than one chart can be displayed on one page. For example, Revenue by region graph/chart into multiple charts by inserting year/Period. This can be done in 2 ways by inserting Year in Rows or in Columns.
  • Merge data : In my view, this is easily one of the best selling points of SAP Lumira. Integration of data with other datasources/datamarts is straight forward. Users can easily define their conditions and merge the data for decision making analysis. Best example for this is Actuals and Forecast where actuals are stored in one system and Forecast is calculated manually in excel.
  • Custom Hierarchies: Creating custom hierarchies in 2 simple steps. This gives users lot of flexibility in analysis.
  • No coding and WYSWYG dashboards
  • Charts customizing: Currently, there is limited edit options provided with Lumira charts. Many companies has their own colors for their KPI's and users are used to analyze the measures based on their color. Lumira doesnot provide the flexibility of defining colors to the measures in the chart.
  • Dynamic Visibility: Completely missing this functionality.
  • Cross component interaction: There is very limited cross component interaction provided.
  • No what if analysis like Sliders , input controls...
SAP Lumira is well suited for the set of users who needs daily dashboarding and are not interested learning new coding or programming languages.

SAP Lumira is used for developing visualizations in order to help with decision-making.

I utilized it for making real time decision making by making use of SAP HANA at the backend

  • Creating Visualizations and stories
  • Managing data at the front end in order to make decisions
  • Should support more and more databases at the back end
Works well for decision-making through beautiful visualizations

Exploring Lumira as a self service tool for BI audience.
In the initial phase, would create stories and user training to promote.
  • A drop down menu on page 1 can control objects across all pages.
  • Different color scheme and control over selection.
  • Data export and filter option right at click on the object.
  • Pie charts, columns charts, and other type charts - tool needs more control in terms of data labeling and visualization.
For Healthcare setting where you have EPIC, this make perfect sense to utilize all EPIC provided universes that cut downs a lot of dev works.
