Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use the SAP Sustainability Control Tower to map the requirements of the ESR standard for CSRD. In doing so, we develop the content as a product and market it to other customers.

Pros

  • High-level summary of all required ESG metrics
  • High-level comparison between actual and planned values
  • Data can also be conveniently populated using CSV

Cons

  • Implementing Custom Metrics: Support for all DPI dimensions needed
  • Drill-Down Requirements: Full dimension availability via OData API
  • Row Limit Issue: Request limit inadequate for data volume
  • Breakdown by all dimensions for metrics not feasible

Inexpensive solution. Quick implementation. Comprehensive reporting. Great fit for all types of reporting.

Less Appropriate. Would like to see SAP PaPM-like capability to measure financial impact of our Sustainability initiatives.

We use SAP Sustainability Control Tower (SCT) to generate customer-facing dashboards that organize all underlying emissions and "sustainability-related" in an easy to understand format. While the tool works well to get core emissions data such as fleet and transportation, procurement and production emissions, it lacks data from certain industries such as energy, this is our biggest concern with SAP Sustainability Control Tower right now, the availability of industry-specific content.

  • No advanced scenario simulation capabilities
  • Easier connection with third-party data

Likelihood to Recommend

It is basically the easiest choice for people who are already running SAP ECC or S4 as their ERP as that means they can get all of the data sources automatically without mapping efforts. That compensates for some of the shortcomings mentioned earlier, and to be fair, tools from other vendors (e.g., Microsoft) have the same problem anyway.

We offer SAP SCT to companies in order to record, track and act on sustainability data to improve decision making on environmental, social and governance matters

Pros

  • Gather and organize company data
  • Calculate sustainability metrics
  • Report metrics/indicators according to mandatory or voluntary sustainability standards
  • Customize it to the clients needs and operations

Cons

  • The connection to other applications, which is now in development

Likelihood to Recommend

In case of a big organization that gathers data from other SAP applications on environmental aspects for instance, energy consumption, or social aspects such as HR data, SCT allows you to automatically retrieve that data and perform the calculations to then develop the company's ESG report.

In case the company does not use other SAP applications it is still possible to enter the data manually in other formats but it is still possible.
